If you homebrew the Wii part of the WiiU, you can use Nintendont to run Gamecube games on the WiiU (provided you have an SD card and gamecube controllers). Meaning the WiiU can not only play Wii and WiiU games, but also Gamecube games. Is there even a point to the Wii anymore? :D
AlexTenThousand Ya Nintendo has a way of making very consistently good games. I wouldn't say that about their consoles but the switch looks promising. I think it would be cool if Nintendo was just a developer but definitely not under anybody, especially Microsoft. They need to keep the creativity free from their clutches.
all those start up sounds were absolute trash my xbox has a better start up sound than any of those sorry excuses for a console you lot seem to be so attatched to
The lack of a handle is the most idiotic reason to bash on the switch!!! At least you can play it at home and on the go unlike the shitty Gamecube!! XD lol
That was incredibly ballsy of Microsoft to ask Nintendo to stop making consoles and just make games for their unreleased/newly released first ever console. That's like asking Slash to join your unsigned garage band.
This is probably one of the few videos from this channel that I could just go back and rewatch all over again, because of its music. In this case, Metroid Prime Tallon Overworld's II Theme
Next to the PSX's. Fun Fact: Holding the Z button while booting up the Gamecube changes the jingle's instruments! Try it out with four Z buttons held down!
"Exploit". It was a designed feature. The game flat out accepted code from the server to run locally. As Rudy from Funhouse would say: "That was no accident!"
I didn't expect you of all people in the comments DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
Only real flaws with it are the d-pad being a bit too small, and only one Z button rather than a separate ZR and ZL. Comfort wise, easily the best controller of all time.
Here is a link to my Nintendo Gamecube (United States). It is silver, and the controller has some scratches. Bid starts at $18 US 1/4/2018. Buy it now is $35, with free shipping. www.ebay.com/itm/162836196833?ul_noapp=true
God just watching the background videos makes me so happy. Mario sunshine, luigi's Mansion, metroid, kirby air ride, zelda, the list can go on and on but man so many happy memories
Kyle S Yeah, I'm really glad that deal didn't go through. Microsoft can be innovative, like with the original Xbox and Xbox Live, but Nintendo has their own kind of innovative thinking that I don't think would have flourished all that well under the Xbox brand...
DINGO! MS isn't that innovative though, the original xbox was clunky as hell and not a whole lot of good games were made for it, and the concept of playing online was already a thing so xbl isn't as ground breaking as you think it is.
Ahhh, the Gamecube was one of my most favorite consoles of all time. So many memories. And about the last time graphics could look "good" without sacrificing readability in your environments.
I remember the GameCube fondly, it was my first true console. I’m played the SNES and Dreamcast a lot but I didn’t own them. I remember getting the indigo GameCube with F-Zero GX, Smash Melee, Animal Crossing, Billy Hatcher, and Super Monkey Ball for Christmas.
Now this is a fantastic video. Glad to get some more bits of Information on the Gamecube! In the early 2000s, having a PS2 and a Gamecube with GBA cord attachements to your GBSP... Those were great times
The GameCube controller is still one of the best designed video game controllers ever made. It would be just about perfect if it had a better quality D-Pad.
Saw one of those Panasonic gamecubes in a second hand video game store years ago. Was pretty awesome to see one in person considering how much they seem to go for on Ebay.
This is the console that impacted my childhood the most and that STILL impacts me now and that Kirby's air ride clips make me wanna cry over how much i loved my GameCube
You know, they might have been onto something with the GameCube button design... Especially when it came to quick time events. When I played Resident Evil 4, I had no problem reading the button on the screen and immediately hitting the correct button. When it came to doing similar things on the Wii U (Assassin's Creed 3 in particular), I would constantly get confused and hit the wrong button, since all the face buttons were the same shape and color. This was when I realized that whenever I read button prompts, the first things I read are the colors and shape, and it took me around 2-3 more seconds to process Wii U prompts over Gamecube prompts... I think it might have also been extra confusing to me, since I played a lot of Xbox and Xbox 360, and the buttons for X, Y, A, and B were reverse to be in English left to right order on the controllers. PlayStation buttons are also easy for me to read, since I read the colors first, and if necessary, the unique shapes. I can read those quickly, too. Which makes me wonder why Nintendo ditched color coding their buttons on the 3DS and Switch? Now I'm curious, does anyone else have this issue, or is it just me?
Hey Dazz, did you know that Matsushita IS Panasonic, and that it's not a subsidiary, but the company itself? Matsushita outside of Japan, traded under the name Panasonic, before they decided to use the brand name in Japan also, but before even that happened, Matsushita traded in Japan by another English name; National.
I'd love for them to work together. There's already cross-play for Minecraft because of them being on good terms. It benefits gamers with companies generally like each other. We also almost got Halo on DS.
Greatest console of all time: Melee, Sunshine, WIndwaker, Paper Mario TTYD, Maeroid Prime 1&2, Pikmin 1&2, Mario Party 4-7, Pokemon Coliseum, Pokemon XD, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, StarFox Assault, Mario Kart Double Dash, and so many more.
Woah there, friend, I think I drew that Jigglypuff you have in your profile some years ago, this is a bit surreal, finding this randomly here on YT, where did you find it?

I remember when the GameCube was released that, compared to the brand new XBox and the PS2, it felt like a let down. Like it was a kiddie console made for children. But now, with hindsight, everyone seems to look back on it very fondly. I do remember that people loved the controller though. Even back then. It was an acquired taste. I'm willing to bet that in 15 years time everyone will look back at the Wii U and say what an awesome system it was and pine for the days when at least Nintendo still made totally unique and different consoles. I love my Wii U :)
It's a shame the GameCube failed. It had so many good games, like the Wii U. The Wii did so well; everyone wanted it, like the Switch. History repeats itself.

But Nintendo did turn down the offer of purchasing rare. Ultimately forcing rare to shift to Microsoft to buy them. So it is kind of Nintendo's fault for rare's downfall too.
Nintendo still owned a major part of Rare as a company and was a huge stockholder for them. From what I recall, Microsoft buying Rare was a forced buyout, and Rare had several budding projects with Nintendo at the time that had to be shelved.
Just a quick note after doing some research, I was wrong, as it was not a forced buyout, but my original comment still stands. Besides not outright buying the studio, Nintendo didn't cause the downfall of Rare. Everything that Rare did afterwards was not in Nintendo's hands. Nintendo may or may not have regretted buying Rare entirely, but I don't see how they were at fault.
Nintendo doesn't seem to regret that decision at all; It helped them with making partnerships with other smaller developers like Next Level Games and Monolith Soft without the need of purchase. Also, Advance Wars and Fire Emblem came at the right time at the time.

Yamauchi is a freaking hero. Give that man a medal and gamers all over the world should kneel as he passes and never take his name is vain. This man alone saved us from a desolate dystopian future in the world of gaming. Mass Respect #AllHailYamauchiTheSaviorofGaming
I have a Gamecube, two actually, and I agree wholeheartedly, especially if it uses the same port as the OG. Many Gamecube games have become stupid expensive nowadays.
Yamauchi was a savant when it came to reading the markets and he was rather correct in his assessment that Mircrosoft didn't understand the way Nintendo or the video game market was running at the time.
As he came into the window It was the sound of a crescendo He came into her apartment He left the bloodstains on the carpet She ran underneath the table He could see she was unable So she ran into the bedroom She was struck down, it was her doom
That's a hardware issue, not a design issue. Put a rotating ball underneath with pins for each arm to rest on when pressed down and it works. It's what I did to my controllers. Makes it easier to play Gameboy games through the Gameboy Player as well. But the design of the Gamecube controller, the layout and how it's shaped? That's about as close to perfection as we've gotten.
I'm mostly a Mouse and Keyboard guy, but I will say the GameCube controller is hands down my favorite controller design ever. I really dislike the Sony/Microsoft controllers.
+VulpesHilarianus If you had to mod the controller to begin with, then it's a problem nonetheless. The best thing GameCube had going for it was the unique face button layout that was incredibly ergonomic. Everything else, the second analog stick, shoulder buttons and d-pad, were done way better by later controllers.
Ah Gosh, the Gamecube! Definitely my all time favorite console ever, right with the SNES! So many masterpieces on those 2 consoles, I love them to death and am so glad to own and have played on them. Also, that sweet Metroid Prime soundtrack on the second part! :D
GameCube is probably my favorite console ever

The GameCube is called the GameCube because the shape of the console is a cube and it plays games.

It's safe to say that the lovable purple lunchbox was a perfect design.
Nana-Kyoto well it only had great games, great controller, and handle it's not that great
I find it funny you say that. When I went to Junior High I knew a guy who hallowed out a broken Gamecube and made a Lunch box out of it.
Nana-Kyoto perfect. If they wanted to make their least sellable console.
I hate the purple they used. Silver was pretty good tho.
Cheappy V tell that to the Wii U and Virtual Boy
Since the Wii U plays original Wii games, my original Wii has become my GameCube.

Yamauchi is a freaking hero. Give that man a medal and gamers all over the world should kneel as he passes and never take his name is vain. This man alone saved us from a desolate dystopian future in the world of gaming. Mass Respect #AllHailYamauchiTheSaviorofGaming
Nintendo's First Home and Portable console sorry Switch
Leon S. Kenady
That's the virtual boy.
Great music choice all around in this episode.
just imagine if Microsoft was actually able to buy them out... Cuphead and Odyssey on the same system
Sony would be dead
If you're talking about Mario Odyssey, then they are
That Phantasy Star footage brought so many memories
I would buy a Gamecube classic mini.
Also thank God Nintendo refuse Microsoft.
Videos al paso who wouldn't?
If a GameCube Classic ever came out, child me would shit his pants.
I have a Gamecube, two actually, and I agree wholeheartedly, especially if it uses the same port as the OG. Many Gamecube games have become stupid expensive nowadays.
I have a Panasonic Q and its legit the best classic purchase I've ever made, in person, its a thing of beauty.
OH MY GOD THAT'S WHY THE MARIOKART TRACKS ARE CALLED GCN INSTEAD OF NGC
GAMECUBE FOREVER!! BEST CONTROLLER, GREAT MEMORABLE GAMES MAKE FOR AN AMAZING CHILDHOOD!
Did you know The Gamecube is the best Nintendo Console ever
You spelled Super Nintendo Entertainment System wrong
how tf do you misspell a three letter word
did you know the cables for component are over $400?

Mr. Pepé Spelled is accepted in the US, so I don't see the point in your "correction"
Yamauchi was a savant when it came to reading the markets and he was rather correct in his assessment that Mircrosoft didn't understand the way Nintendo or the video game market was running at the time.
4:15 thank the man for declining the offer, Microsoft would have made Nintendo really bad
That Yamiuchi quote, the ironing is delicious.
Smooth criminal
As he came into the window
It was the sound of a crescendo
He came into her apartment
He left the bloodstains on the carpet
She ran underneath the table
He could see she was unable
So she ran into the bedroom
She was struck down, it was her doom
DYKG: The channel to go for history and gamer fans.
Nintendo Dolphin
that intro sound.. the nostalgia hits hard
I will say that if the Gamecube controller simply added L2 and R2 that it would be perfect. That's all it needs.
How about the D-pad being less awful?
That's a hardware issue, not a design issue. Put a rotating ball underneath with pins for each arm to rest on when pressed down and it works. It's what I did to my controllers. Makes it easier to play Gameboy games through the Gameboy Player as well.
But the design of the Gamecube controller, the layout and how it's shaped? That's about as close to perfection as we've gotten.
I'm mostly a Mouse and Keyboard guy, but I will say the GameCube controller is hands down my favorite controller design ever. I really dislike the Sony/Microsoft controllers.
Some Gamecube controllers (I can't remember if they're third party or not though) have a left side bumper called the M button.
The Camecube is my all time favorite console/controller. It also has some of the best games of that generation.
If Microsoft got nintendo, Odyssey wouldn't exist.. THANK GOD
Ah Gosh, the Gamecube! Definitely my all time favorite console ever, right with the SNES! So many masterpieces on those 2 consoles, I love them to death and am so glad to own and have played on them.
Also, that sweet Metroid Prime soundtrack on the second part! :D
The GameCube has the best controller in gaming. DualShock is also pretty good, but the analog sticks never felt right to me.
That walking thing close to the end is very cool!
