Hey just came across this video, looks good. How hard is it to convert a automatic truck to manual 2001 Silverado 2wd? Is what I’ve been wondering for for a while..
(stands and begins slow clapping) Very clever and very nice setup! Ive been looking all over the net for some interesting custom fab jobs on our trucks, and this is by far my favorite. Well done!
OUR TRUCK'S....?? SO WHAT ALL RIG'S U ALL BUILD LET US KNOW HERE OR PUT IN A LINK OR SIMPLY E-MAIL ME 'EM...... apple43055@gmail.com ( put in our rig build's in the main part so it not go into spammmmmm
That’s the shortest throw I’ve ever seen in a manual transmission. Looks like you’ve only got about 3 inches of travel between gears if that. Nice job.
You're basically torturing yourself with a throw that short. It's much easier to miss gears, and it's also hard on synchros because the shift collar moves so quickly when you're driving it hard. Factory throw ftw.
dont know how i ended up in this part of youtube from watching diesel videos, but im glad i did, this is pure genious man, you deserve the exposure. i once had a slammed 04 1500 and would have loved to have done this setup. it is very well done and great work.
I was looking for ideas for a custom shifter for my 94 k1500 and came across this.... I've also been wanting to build a custom console and haven't started on it because I didn'twanna have to deal with the shifter being in the way as I would like to go all the way to the dash with console ... This is the PERFECT solution.... THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES OVER!!
Freaking awesome. Love that you used a tie-rod. I couldn't stand my 1500's long pipe shifter. It would slam out of great when driving over railroad tracks an a certain road and I'd course it everytime.
Truly the reason RUclips is here. I must admit that at the beginning of the video I was thinking "that will have a hard time catching 1st 2nd 5th and reverse" but it looks like it works quite well. Thanks for posting your video.
Thanks man. My shifting may even look a little awkward in the video, but while I'm actually driving it with the seats in and everything it shifts really smoothly and naturally.
It’s simplistic but at the same time you can tell he really thought this out who’d ever think to make that it makes what would normally be an ugly tall shifter with no counsel into a neat no doubt comfortable to drive truck with the added benefits of a manual transmission. Kudos to you for that there’s some engineers at GM shaking their heads wishing they’d done something like that from the factory an no doubt we’d still have manual trucks in the GM line up unlike now where all you get is automatic transmission an that sucks
Adam Krasnecki thanks for watching! I drove it quite a bit today, testing it out and getting a feel for it. I'm liking it so far and I should be working on a driving video soon!
if I ever decide to do this with my 05 Avalanche, I will pay you to do it. that is amazing craftsmanship. and you didn't over do. you just got in there, and got it done. cheap, clean, and simple.
Im LS swapping a s13 240sx and im also using a truck nv3500 trans. My first attempt looked like your first attempt and the throws was crazy lol. Glad i saw this! Genius!!! What tie rod end did you use?
Honestly I saw the picture of the video and thought "oh what kind of half ass hack was done to this poor car" so I clicked the video and was I ever wrong. I am thoroughly impressed. Very simple, functional, and looks fantastic all together. You even got a grease nipple on it lol. I have driven many 1500 with 5 speeds and shifting them always annoyed me. I could see you make a killing on this.
Pretty slick man, that's awesome. I'm in the middle of building a 4.2 liter diesel S10 with a T-19 tranny, I'm at the point where I'm trying to figure my shifter out because it's up under the dash like yours. I think your video just inspired my solution. I was just going to bend my rod all up like your first set up, but seeing how perfectly your remote linkage works got me thinking I'm going to do this. I was originally thinking of doing a remote with cables but they dont really make those setups for a T19. I think this will be perfect. Your shifter snout is up under the dash just like mine
Hell of a job man! I have to give it to you on the tie rod end for the pivot point, really smart. Was just thinking that maybe a gusset on the round stock on the 90 might of been a good idea just for piece of mind. But really dude great job.
Chad Kennedy thanks! Other people have suggested that too, it definitely wouldn't hurt but it seems really rock solid in the few months I've driven it so far.
That would look cool with a Eaton 9 speed shift knob From a semi truck shifter. That tie rod worked, but would a rod end or heim joint look cleaner and do the same function. Also gussets are needed in the 90 degree angles in the linkage rod, greese fittings on the pivot points too. Great idea, and functions very well.
Wow, thats really nice. I would do this and get a manual performamce trans to my 05 that has a center consol. Just a bad leg prevents me from such! Great work! Looks almost factory. Wish GM done this factory though. Would have been high tech then lol.
Dude im doing soon my first twin turbo ls swap with a 4 speed muncie but shell its gonna be either a mustang or camaro and was researching for an extender till i find this video definitely i gonna build one thanks a lot
You did an excellent job engineering and producing this solution. Not sure if you do any hard gear banging (just found this channel) but I can see the 90's having some deflection. Some gussets at both 90's I think will solve that "issue" if it ever arrises for you. Once again, great work!
Thanks, I'm not worried about the strength of the 90s, but I have now switched over to one single straight piece of rod with the pivot ends welded on at an angle to match the offset.

Hey just came across this video, looks good. How hard is it to convert a automatic truck to manual 2001 Silverado 2wd? Is what I’ve been wondering for for a while..
Could this be modified to work on a ford?
I need you to come do this for me
Do you make one that works in the 95
Move the pivot down more so it's longer shifting so it's not a rediculously short throw
at first i thought this was going to be terrible and ugly but then you put the center console in and i said "holy shit"
good job sir well executed
(stands and begins slow clapping) Very clever and very nice setup! Ive been looking all over the net for some interesting custom fab jobs on our trucks, and this is by far my favorite. Well done!
Fabsmith thanks so much man! I really appreciate that!
+Ty Brink
If you wanted to you could use a single rod with a bend to make the jog.
Fabsmith I

this is insane!!!!!!!!!!!!! your a genius!! you need to patent this, I'm sure there are folks who would buy this
You should be proud of yourself man. Made an amazing and outstanding improvement to your shifter.
Brother pattent your invention before some company gets it
That is a pretty good job
That's how Chevy should have built it !
I would put a patent on that ASAP and start making money
Swiss Roll
This isn't new technology
Man! That's what I was gonna say!!
Yea they have been making this for t-5 in old mustangs for a good ten years now. I thought he bought one for his truck.
Really!! So what you're saying is that he copied the configuration from the mustang one!?
I've never seen the mustang one in my life so I wouldn't be able to copy that.
That’s the shortest throw I’ve ever seen in a manual transmission. Looks like you’ve only got about 3 inches of travel between gears if that. Nice job.

Aneronix - thanks man!
Not sure why this popped up in my feed but awesome job man. If I didn't need the center seat of the front bench I'd do a very similar build.
Jason454ss I'm not sure either, I've never had a video grow this fast randomly.
Must have done something right!
Probably the best piece of engineering on that truck.
You're everything that's good in this world. You drive an 05 truck and it's mint. Best interior in an 05 truck ever.
Mr. Popo thank you!

Man, that looks very clean and definitely doesn't look cobbled together. Fantastic job. Looks great.
This is sweet! I'll probably be doing the same in my 93 c1500 race truck once I get a console installed. Thanks for the inspiration!!
Did you end up doing it ? Got pics ?
One of the most innovative gearshift ideas I have seen. Brilliant idea !
Ray Maharaj thank you!

Thanks man. My shifting may even look a little awkward in the video, but while I'm actually driving it with the seats in and everything it shifts really smoothly and naturally.
This has to be one of the most bad ass things I’ve seen in a while.
That’s such a clean setup that u got there. It’s pretty genius if u ask me! Good job!
Holy crap dude! This is amazing! You're the reason why I love RUclips! ☺️👍
You're Genius at work! 😀
Chevy would sell a lot more trucks if they were made like this.
by far the most useful, aesthetically pleasing mod. very nice job.
Anthony Bennett thank you!
This is sweet. Love how you did your linkage snd the shift knob
That is truly an awesome interior and excellent work. Keep the videos coming!!!!
That looked so nice it could've been factory! Man i dig that shifter great job

CONGRATS BROTHER shows what your brain can do when you put it to use looks awesome.
Using the inner and outer tie rod was an awesome idea! I'll have to add that to my idea bank for the future, thanks dude!
Coolest thing I’ve seen all week very nice job
That’s pretty sweet man! Nice work! Shortest shifter throws I’ve ever seen in a Silverado
Been waiting for this video for quite some time, it is awesome! Thanks for the upload can't wait for some driving clips!
Adam Krasnecki thanks for watching! I drove it quite a bit today, testing it out and getting a feel for it. I'm liking it so far and I should be working on a driving video soon!

If you just showed me video of the finished product I couldn't have guessed that was a trucks gear shift. That thing is fuckin awesome.
August Watring thanks!
I know i'm very late to comment, but this is genius work at it's finest. Simply put. ^^
Im LS swapping a s13 240sx and im also using a truck nv3500 trans. My first attempt looked like your first attempt and the throws was crazy lol. Glad i saw this! Genius!!! What tie rod end did you use?
Dusty McElroy thanks man, I think I'm using tie rods for a maxima or altima.
Doing this to my 01 F150 w/ 5-speed... thank for the idea. Did the center console and seat swap from the Expedition, now time for a new shifter set up
So much better than the old design. I want this!
Honestly I saw the picture of the video and thought "oh what kind of half ass hack was done to this poor car" so I clicked the video and was I ever wrong. I am thoroughly impressed. MikeSF1992 haha thanks a lot!
This is amazing, you made it look so easy and it looks factory to, simple genius ideal
That actually came out really good! That's awesome bro great job
You my friend are a genius Sir bad ass set up.... thumbs up
i apologize for all the negative thoughts i had when i clicked on this video. the finished product is actually really nice
I litterally just thaught about making one of these for my truck. And just happened to come acrossed this video. Thanks man for the inspiration
Wish I had my 4.3 5-spd back.
So jealous! Great job!!!
Awesome craftsmanship and thought process. 👍
A tie rod end.....well ill be damned good job sir looks and works great!!
Dude this is awesome. Good job on the set up man! Keep up the good work
rp94cobra thank you!
I don't even drive yet and I appreciate this, this is amazing
Nice! Don’t forget to grease that tie rod
Ruben Vasquez no water .no Grease. No dirt.is built forever.
Great job man it looks much more comfortable to switch gears with now.

thank god you did this. Nothing better feeling wise I bet!
Dude that is bad ass. I like the hell out of that. If I had a manual shift truck I'd be "borrowing" this idea!!! LoL
you've definitely impressed ME , my man.....
Pure genius.
Bad ass man. Fabricating to the max. Looks awesome. My 99 7.3 is a 6 speed. I just love the big ole stick (no homo) coming from the floor
Well done. Looks original
awesome i love it using the tie rod end is a very slick idea almost a shame to cover it up
I have never seen so much positive feedback on a video holy crap, this is fucking dope tho man, good job
Max Caissie thank you!
Not what I was looking for but this will definitely come in handy thank you!
I love it makes driving a truck really easy
Wow. Absolutely genius to build like this! Love it. Will watch other video for the setup
Just subscribed!
Very clever work...
Continue on building this channel, very interesting stuff!!
Bro! That is bad ass!! Lol so simple yet 100 times better than stock! Nice work
Excellent fabrication MacGyver would be proud
That came out clean, great work.
That is fucking awesone brother!!! As everyone else comented you my freind need to patent this!!!
Remarkably pragmatic. Tie Rod end is a great idea.
You should make a kit for OBS GM’s that would be awesome
Wow, was just thinking about how to do this on my ranger and what. Recommended RUclips video showing exactly what I was thinking.. freaky man.
Dude this is amazing, I wish I could figure something out like this for my 05 Dodge 2500.
Subscribed ! This video hooked me your content is well filmed I like it keep it up man hope to see more
This is genius! And it's how I'm going to make a remote shifter for my Beretta RWD swap. Thanks
You sir are doing Gods work brother.
What a brilliant idea. Nice job, dude.
Awesome vid bro. You sound just like Will Forte, it's awesome!
That's an awesome build man. Looks great.

Pretty cool setup man . Good job
That's so sick dude !!!!
Looks like it came that way from factory. Looks hell of a lot better than the typical shifter in a truck
Yea I'd like the remote one u did with the tie rod that is genius
Thanks Man for the sharing your project.. Good job
Dude you could be an engineer good shit. 👌
That's a clean mod, turned out awesome
This is so awesome! Great job perfect craftsmanship!
That is awesome! Love what ya did!
That came out so sweet!
Great idear what is the tie rod out off
Why can't you tell me
Dude im doing soon my first twin turbo ls swap with a 4 speed muncie but shell its gonna be either a mustang or camaro and was researching for an extender till i find this video definitely i gonna build one thanks a lot
Nice set up. But my only concern is is the 2 90' bends, you could have used one rod with some ez bends. Much stronger in my experience then 90s.
I thought of that a while back, but this was easy to get the offset perfect and it seems rock solid in the past few months I've been driving it.
You did an excellent job engineering and producing this solution. Not sure if you do any hard gear banging (just found this channel) but I can see the 90's having some deflection. Some gussets at both 90's I think will solve that "issue" if it ever arrises for you. Once again, great work!

That is really really cool! I love the look if I ever swap the trans out in my k10 to manual I may go a similar route
That long shifter would also potentially yank it out of some of the gears when you hit a bump. Nice design!
You Are A GENIUS MAN! I love it
Awesome!!. I have to do the same thing for a 4x4 shifter. Great idea!!!
That looks amazing! Great work!
Maaaaan that is clean!
