Although I understand that polka dots are timeless, I feel like I’m playing dress up when I try them on.

Thanks, Nada, informative video. I had to laugh about the Cynthia Rowley dress (gorgeous!) - my husband has a shirt in an almost identical fabric - priceless! I love a floral dress in summer, it makes me feel feminine, but the struggle to get it right is on-going - your assistance is appreciated!
I just got an indigo patchwork dress from April Cornell that I’m excited to wear. Button down from with a sash, but you could do a different belt…and boots!😅

Nada, I love rich, dark paisleys or prints that have gorgeous roses and almost a William Morris-style look to them. Is that modern or vintage and does that work for current or classic fashions?
I didn't really get what a modern print was. You showed examples, so I saw what that modern print was. I love Paisley, but I like it when the whole area is filled in with the paisley in complimentary colors. I've never seen a paisley so far apart as the example you showed---that was hideous! I love patterns that softly swirl into each other, usually pastels or geometric prints that are on the small size.. same with animal prints--zebra prints are usually too bold and belong on zebras!! I hate little all over flower prints that make you look like you should be on "Little House on the Prairie". The can really make you look dowdy! Embossed or Jacquard prints are nice-they look chic, but add interest.
@@chriswatson1698 like I said, leopard is polarizing lol. I love prints also. I’m simply saying that solids are more elegant than mediocre prints in my opinion.
I have never like any prints at all in clothing - even when I was half my age - always classic solids with an accessory perhaps in a subtle print - a scarf, a belt, shoes....
I like prints & details like embroidery or embellishment used strategically. All solids/basics can be just that -basic & boring. So for me it depends on the size & color of the print as well as placement. Stripes-yes, in a non graphic pinstripe. Horizontal stripes--no (too busty) Plaids, yes if in a neutral color palette & moderate size. Leopard or animal print, yes if in a natural color-no pink zebra stripes--& used in accessories to punch up a black dress (or any neutral outfit) I would say no to an all leopard print dress. Too much pattern on me, love it on others. I like paisleys, abstracted florals, pin stripes, houndstooth, & plaids, but used with neutrals & solids & never in a bright, graphic or garish color palette. So color & scale plays a large part in whether I like a print. (You can also use texture to break up all solid/neutral outfits but that's another topic)

I think it’s really important to watch for the placement of the prints. One dress you loved has a swirl “swirling “ around a “lady part “. I would be mortified if someone called that out on a dress I was wearing. I really think it’s not just the print but the design of the item, the fit, the colors and the placement. That’s a lot to consider before purchasing the item. Just because the item is expensive doesn’t mean it’s a good print or good for you. Basically, I call this a headache. I’m ok with a scarf or small item.

I am super picky about prints. Print design is very hard to get it right (just like wall paper). Even stripes and dots I am specific. Although print design preference is subjective and personal, there are really bad and gaudy designs out there. Also the print quality, fabric choice, clothing style, and workmanship would affect the prints. I still buy print dresses, tops, and skirts but not pants. Horizontal stripes can make you look wider but it depends on the thickness of the stripes if they are thick like the mango jumper that will make you look broader but if the stripes are thinner and closer together it doesn't make you look wider same if you are petite the wider stripes can make you look shorter the narrow closer together stripes don't hope this helps someone try it next time you're out shopping take a top with wide stripes and one with narrow ones to the changing room and see the difference ❤
I strongly dislike prints of any type except for maybe something on a silk scarf or I will wear a plaid flannel shirt with jeans. That’s about it. It’s not just because I’m a plus size lady. I have such pale coloring and I feel like prints give off the wrong vibe of who I am. my color season is a light summer and I don’t even like the light summer colors in prints. But the style of a lot of the dresses that you showed, I absolutely loved. I would never buy them because they are prints. Still, I found your video very informative and interesting.

It is very subjective. I didn't love either of the yellow dresses but the "bad" one was no worse than the other.
