…I went through Nada’s Terrific program, and it turned out very much a success for me! I wanted to share a thought before listening to this Great looking video; I have found the good reason some lovely clothes didn’t get worn yet; even though they were already picked for my clusters. TIMING. Not just ‘seasonal’, but… I bought items in my style that looked ageless; but, it was only after getting a few years older, that my choices matched my maturity, and vis-versa . For instance, blazers over white shirts. I wouldn’t wear the shirts because they looked ‘ more mature’ on me than my usual go-to tops. But, 2-3 years later, that white shirt under a blazer looks better than my other tops. I suppose I had accurately envisioned the blazers on me, and had even showed Nada them in photos, but I had held them for ‘the right TIME, not realizing that it was that my face looks better with the outfit at this later TIME in my life. - // This looks like I will enjoy this video very much!

Very recently I had an early appointment and was in the parking lot while employees were loading in. One lady had on an ensemble that she had clearly gone to enormous effort to match and curate; the garments and shoes were boho to costume levels looking really theatrical for a workplace. I told her she looked beautiful today and she lit up. I mean really lit up, because a rando like me expressed genuine approval and appreciation. I was not exaggerating how much I "saw" her, dressing up to come to work. Beauty and style and aspiration and effort and femininity and shine exist alongside a bit of awkwardness. Please ladies, support other women wherever you meet them.

Yes! I find it much easier and rewarding, now that I'm older, to tell people how much I love their clothing, their look, or whatever it was was that caught my attention, and only wish I'd been confidant enough to have done this decades ago.

Well done, on being generous spirited. The majority of people are not at all appreciative of those that make an effort with their appearance. I regularly compliment strangers, but even though I dress stylishly, and wear Chanel perfume, I rarely get compliments. That's people for you.

As with all of your videos, this one really hit the mark! More often than not, I buy clothes for my "fantasy self" rather than for my actual lifestyle! I now have enough clothes to wear something different for date night (the only time I dress up) without repeating, for a couple of years! 😂

This video has my name on it. As you know, I am still shopping for my pre-retirement lifestyle but at least I am buying for my current more casual and relaxed lifestyle and, boo-hoo, shorter height.
I just want to add that I have stopped following 90 per cent of the fashion RUclipsrs I used to, a hobby/habit I picked up during the Covid lockdowns. Your videos are the most imaginative, informative, practicable, BS-free.
I can appreciate that many influencers depend financially on sponsors, and selling outfits, and freebie "hauls" from fashion brands and so have to promote them. (I especially despise fast fashion cheaply-made by exploited labour hauls.) I have come to be wary of "capsule wardrobe" you! must! have! this season.
But you are so hard-working and make such sense. And, even if I don't always need to hear what you have to say, I enjoy listening to you because you articulate so much about style that, even if I can't use it, I can share with friends.
For example, what's authentic to oneself. I have always hated chunky loafers, even back in the 60s when they were on trend. They always felt like clodhoppers on me. When I saw my slim, petite niece in a pair, I offered to buy her another pair of shoes. 🙂
    Thank you!

It makes so much sense to me now, I bought colors that I liked to look at instead of muted colors that work on me. I wore clothes that didn’t fit because I have short limbs and a very wide torso. It’s especially difficult to find a personal style when never seeing a similar body type styled and without getting an accurate opinion / feedback when something doesn’t work. I’m just figuring it out at age 60.

Very few brands seem to be making petites, especially in pants and then these really long skirts come in that I can’t wear. They don’t make jeans in the right size … I really struggle with finding some thing that just plain old fits

Well that was me with the denim jackets. And the loafers 😂. And you know another realization I’ve had just in the past few days? I love the look that’s long and flowy head to toe. Not the horrid 2 piece sets from your 10 things not to wear over 50, more like a lot of the styles Lydia Tomlinson wears with the baggy pants and flowy tops that looks effortlessly perfect. I’ve wanted that look for so long but I think I’ve had to come to the sad reality that at 5 feet tall and with a petite frame it’s just not happening. 😢 Dressing for the body I don’t have. Sigh.

Climate is really important. I lived in the Seattle area for about 7 years then moved back to Calif in The Central Valley. I had sweaters, wool coats & jackets plus boots, hats & scarves & enjoyed the milder climate. (I miss having a Fall) I was an art student & mostly wore jeans & tees/sweaters. Our current climate is warm to hot 9months out of the year. I am not a shorts & sandals kind of person at all & I hate the heat. I ended up with lightweight maxi dresses I could wear with sneakers or sandals & light weight knit joggers. I own a lot of tank tops now but have light layer coverups & crochet cardigans or kimonos to throw on instead of a jacket. Most people I see are wearing bike shorts/leggings & oversized tees or tanks with flipflops. That's not for me at my age & weight. (Fine for working out but not out to dinner) I also really like black & dark colors & velvet. Not great in a hot arid arid climate. Now we are getting ready to move to Boise. I only have 3 sweaters & no true snow proof winter coat or snow boots. Most of my clothes are about staying cool, not warm. This should be interesting...I'm taking the oppurtunity to really purge my closet of things I don't wear & probably won't for whatever reason.

A black satin slip dress can be easily dressed down though. You could wear it with a close fitting tshirt and a pair of sneakers, with a pair of casual boots or wear it under a pullover or cardigan. You could wear it with a chunky brown belt and casual shoes, from sandals to boots.

This video is packed with thought provoking concepts. Thank you for bringing these things to the forefront. I don’t “do” social media because I know how easily I get swayed. I have a fairly well honed idea of my personal style. I love the idea of bright florals, but not for me. I would never wear a white button up blouse, nor would I wear a denim jacket. But I can’t say no to a short blazer! And I’m thoroughly enjoying the wide leg jeans. I’m a substitute teacher for middle and high school so a smart casual (jeans, top, blazer) is my work uniform most days. Definitely wear casual dresses when the weather cooperates. My summer wardrobe is way more casual because of the heat and the fact that I don’t work. When I eventually retire (I’m 68) in several years I don’t want to have a closet full of work blazers so I need to start that shift now. I just bought a fun twill jacket (like a denim jacket but light weight) for a different but still me look. Great content, as always.

For many years (too many to admit to), I wore either what others thought would look good on me, or clothes that reflected an image I thought I had to reflect professionally. So my journey now is an interesting, enlightening process of ME, discovering MY personal style. And I take the greatest pleasure in letting people know when I think THEY look amazing. And I think you can tell when someone is dressing for themselves not for others. Recognising this and validating this to them (talking, friends, family and strangers here) is essential. Thanks Nada for another thought provoking video. Lots to think about and do.

Do I need another little black dress? To add to the dozen I have? Since I am retired and only have an occasional event to wear them the answer is No but I love them! Great video Nada

Hi Nada, thank you for this video and others reminding me about the importance of knowing who you are and your style. This really helps with sustainability in clothing and saving money. I have had to replace my entire wardrobe because of a personal weight loss/health issue and am now feeling much healthier. Lost 130 lbs thanks to Dr. Jason Fung! So I have been lurking on the internet trying to ascertain my strategy for slowly replacing clothes. The factors that you express in your videos are really helping and I appreciate your content. It is Never too late to look at yourself and discover new things. I have surprised myself how much I am enjoying a minimalist wardrobe. I am only 5 feet tall and have fallen in love with the Banana Republic clothes and realized huh I like classic/minimalist. Thank you!
