    A "cheat" to get around the short boot & skirt/boot gap issue is to wear socks, hose or tights the same color or value as the boots. Assuming it is cooler weather since that's usually when you wear boots (unless you're like me & wear boots year round :D ) So, if your booties or boots are black, try black opaque hose or tights to visually make a longer line. Idk if "shooties" are still a thing, but they might be a good option if ankle boots don't suit you.

    That art is called “Vitruvian Man” and represented ideal proportions for artists to make realistic artwork. No one is probably exactly following his proportions but it served as a guide to draw, paint, and sculpt figures. Prior to this period, artists were making very symbolic art with flat dimensions and cartoonish proportions. Likewise, using the tips in this video will be very helpful in creating those ideal proportions!

    • @yensid4294

      Yep. 8 heads is an ideal proportion borrowed from the Greeks by Renaissance painters & sculptors who rediscovered the golden ratio. In fashion, it's closer to 10 heads which is another reason you see long, lanky 6 ft tall models in 4" heels & why most of us feel short & dumpy in comparison. When you first look at classical nude sculptures, they look short legged because we have all gotten used to elongated fashion proportions.

    I often shorten sleeve length and hem of blazers by doing simple sewing. Ready to wear blazers always have sleeves and hem too long for me. I also hem pants myself. Denim is hard to do without a sewing machine so I always buy jeans without needing hemming.

    Great ideas! Thank you! Maybe it’s a style issue but I really disagree with the 1 inch below the knee being the best skirt length for everyone. Midcalf is generally universally flattering. Breaking the leg exactly in half below the knee is very clunky looking, very schoolgirl and dowdy schoolgirl at that.

    • @NadaManley
      @NadaManley  День назад

      @@ohthankg-dforthebourgeoisi9800 proportionally the midcalf is the hardest length to wear. I work with a proportion system and I have done proportions on hundreds of women.. if a midcalf easily works on you you are lucky but you are the exception.

      I do think that the bodies with long torsos and short legs look best in skirts because you conceal where the legs begin. Also I believe narrow legged pants will elongate the legs compare to the wide legged ones, but I'm not entirely sure about that one. I love a wide leg even so.

    Such an informative video - thank you. It helped me understand why some clothes look 'just wrong' on me.
    What I would appreciate is how to dress to look put together. Is it 1/3,1/3, 1/3 or 2/3 to 1/3?
    I tend to stick to 1/3 to 2/3, but if I dress 1/3,1/3 and 1/3 (like sweater, skirt, then boots) I try to keep 2/3 to the same colour (like brown skirt and brown boots).
    Is this correct?

      Find a good tailor and shorten the too long skirts. Or break out the sewing machine (or needle) and thread and tackle it yourself if ability/time exists. I played with some clothes I was planning to discard first.

    • @irenekanel.ac.7721
      @irenekanel.ac.7721 10 месяцев назад

      @@kjones2008 A good tailor is a necessity. However if have found that midi dresses often don't lend well to shorten because of the flare/cut doesn't lay the same if taken in 3-4 inches to be at the knee. And those above the knee often don't have enough material to let out to be 1 inch below the knee.

    My waist is basically right under my bust, what are some tips for looking proportional with a figure like this? Is this call short waisted by the way?

    • @NadaManley
      @NadaManley  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi! Yes you are short or high waisted, two ways of saying the same thing. I would consider wearing your waistbands lower so choosing dresses for example with a built in waistband that is lower to cheat a little and lengthen your torso. Do you have a full bust?

    • @reallyrho1101

      @@NadaManley yes I do, 40C. It’s a challenge to look proportional with such a high waist and a large bust. I’m 5’6” and look frumpy in so many of the styles today.
