Thank you for mentioning the “ one year rule”. I have items in my closet I love, still fit, are classic in style and currently are on “ break”. 😊 They will have will have their moment to shine again.
Absolutely!! Yes! I have rediscovered SO MANY old favorites. I'd love for you to join my Closet Confidence Workshop Series! facebook.com/groups/1394220194818374
The replacement before purge, so important! When I retired, I got rid of all of my blazers…what a mistake. After 20 years in blazers, I thought it was just something I wore for work. NO! It had become my style. I didn’t know what to wear once they were gone. I repurchased all of the blazers. I’m happy again. These are all great tips. Thank you Nada
I have tons of scrubs....I don't think I will wear them now that I am retired, but it feels weird to get rid of them. Not sure what I am going to do. I hope I don't have to work in healthcare again. I know what you mean.... I almost don't know what to wear now. I guess I can donate them....but I used to almost live in them.
I lost 127 lbs., had no room in closet, got bins, put in clear trash bags, and started sorting . Suits, blouses, pants, dresses, sweaters - 18 trash bags later and a trip to someone that sends stuff to Paraguay, now nothing to wear . Called a friend, said I don't have a suit. She said you don't need one anymore, you're retired. I said I need one dark blue suit, went to Amazon, ordered it, got it, wore it to funeral the next week. I am still looking for a couple of blazers that fit right.
I'd give this video 10 likes if I could. So many gems here. I kept a few of my statement/personality jackets when I retired, wore them in new ways with jeans, graphic tees, white trainers. My current (summer) wardrobe has 17 hangers of pieces that work for me during what is proving to be a hot summer. In the out of season wardrobe in the spare bedroom are items I look forward to rotating when autumn arrives as I love layering. A thrifter for 40 years, have found some of my best pieces out of season, but stay in touch with what is trending and update if it works with my style. I don't want to look like a 73 year old who hasn't cleaned out her closet since the 70s and feel burdened if there's too much choice or clutter. Will rewatch this excellent video as there is much to learn, and we keep on learning, right!😊
That TOTALLY made my day! Thank you so so much!!! I love your system and clarity on your style! And the fact that you understand that too many options feels heavy for you! Love that! I'd love for you to join my Closet Confidence Workshop Series if you're interested. Here's the link for the FB group. facebook.com/groups/1394220194818374
I am moving to a diff climate that gets snow in winter & really glad I hung onto a few sweaters. I have a lot of tank tops & camis & will wait to see how the summer temps are in our new location before making a big purge :)
Yes....I thought I was done with beach vacation at 76. My spouse passed away the man I am dating has a best friend with a beach house 2 hours away...we are invited for a week. Thank goodness I saved some beachwear! Same with my climate I live in the tropics most years it 8s Spring temps all year last year it was very cold for mos.Fires in my 3 fireplaces I needed those leather and suede items...cozy casual items for by the fire. This winter it is tropical ...not getting rid of the cozies.
This is one of the best, most common-sense closet-edit videos I've seen! Dismissing the 1-year rule, reminding us to take a picture of outfits, the advice to "replace then remove," are just a few of my favorite gems from this. Thank you, Nada!
Nada, you work so hard to create great content. It is much appreciated and I am sure you have helped many women get their wardrobe groove back. I am one of them. These days I onlyvwear what makes me feel good and love shopping my own closet.
Ahh Frances! You are the kindest. Thank you SO much! I don't take anyone's time for granted and truly want these videos to be helpful. If you're interested, I'd love for you to join my Closet Confidence Workshop Series! facebook.com/groups/1394220194818374
I only purge items that I do not like anymore or are more than 1 sz too small or big since my weight fluctuates by 20 ilbs depending (thyroid condition) I box up anything that doesn't fit & just wait for the fluctuation to swing back. I also have special occassion (dressy or costume ) items that I do not wear regularly but I still like & keep as long as they fit me. I have learned that I am not a big skirt person & prefer dresses unless it is a matching top & bottom that makes an outfit & looks like a dress.
I edit my closet frequently and think this video is the BEST. I absolutely agree with you on the 1 yr rule and the pause to reflect on purged items. I’m someone who is always working on my weight. Several yrs ago I lost weight, going down 5 sizes. My husband had a fit when I starting giving away all the clothes that were too big. I finally agreed to keep only one size up in my cedar closet. I’m happy with my current size, but if I put on a few pounds, I don’t really want to buy larger. I will shop my cedar closet until I get back into “my size”. This helps me keep my weight in control. I am talking about brands I buy consistently and know my size. If I find something that I love that fits me in a brand that is new to me, I don’t care what size number is on it.
Yessss! Thank you for this! That is exactly how we should be viewing the wardrobe editing process. Thinking it through. Giving ourselves grace and room for change. I LOVE hearing your story. What a smart idea to store those items in another area so that you don't have to repurchase them if you need them. Thank you!
Yesssss! Prevent the purge in a couple of years by shopping smart now. Thank you so much for the comment! I'd love for you to join my Closet Confidence Workshop Series! facebook.com/groups/1394220194818374
I think you can buy multiples of basic items. I have been looking for a higher quality lightweight turtleneck sweater and found one which I bought in black 6 months ago and I washed dried and wore a lot so I recently purchased 6 more. Red maroon dark green icy blue grey with white stripes and camel with navy stripes. I love love love them and even though same item look different due to color. Turtlenecks are a part of my style formula
I agree with keeping items you love but maybe not reaching for them for a while. I recently pulled out 2 silk shirts in kelly green and coral that I put aside 2 years ago as felt they were too bright for the outfits I was favouring. Now love wearing them.
I love all your videos and fashion advice Nada but this video is a special gem. So much excellent advice! You are an absolute joy and a blessing to us all and I am eternally grateful for all your fashion advice in such a fun way!♥
I have 18ft sturdy metal drape rods in my bedroom.....Impulled everything put by item all the pants first organozed by color...samee with tops lomg speeve then short.....it was beautiful to have the colors grouped together...it taught me alot about my color choices.
Thank you Nada. I am going to wear a similiar sweater tonight as the one you are wearing. Wine tasting at a nice restaurant with friends. Planning on wearing it with black straight leg pants and black suede loafers. If I need a 3rd layer.. just in case it gets cooler ( temp should be mid 60's) what should it be? Coats will be too much. A black cardigan ?
That sounds like such a cute outfit! I would try wearing a structured piece over it whether it’s a light trench or a blazer or a light jacket. I think it can be hard to do a sweater over a sweater unless the sweater on top has a little bit more structure to it.. I hope that helps! Have the best time tonight
Excellent advice on not purging something after a year (horrible advice). I have gotten rid of a few things I Really regret having let go of because I hadn't worn them in a few years.
I'm so sorry! It's such common advice and I vehemently disagree with it! Thanks for the comment! I'd love for you to join my Closet Confidence Workshop Series! facebook.com/groups/1394220194818374
I really got a lot from all these points that you made here, so thank you. My closet is in need of a lot of work, so I loved that you suggested doing it in stages. Also the idea of only wearing what I love, and don't feel guilty for getting rid of those items that I don't love to wear, took a weight off my shoulders. I have signed up your Closet Confidence Workshop, and I'll see if I can sign in with my name, rather than my husband Thomas like I did the other week with you. 👠🕶👗
Ahhh!! I loved her too! I saw a Shirley-Temple-esque dress for teens at Marshalls yesterday and it made me smile! Thanks for the comment! I'd love for you to join my Closet Confidence Workshop Series if you're interested! facebook.com/groups/1394220194818374
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked that! I think it's important to be flexible with ourselves. I'd love for you to join my Closet Confidence Workshop Series. facebook.com/groups/1394220194818374
Thanks so much for the outfit of the day! I was surprised to see your sweater paired with a matching skirt and cute little mules. That is a nice outfit that could go just about anywhere. I enjoy seeing what you are wearing, and I even have a couple of pieces that are very similar to yours. I was watching a French influencer on a livestream in which she named the countries and states in which the various participants resided. One of them was from Florida, and she said people dressed very casually there. I thought of you and chuckled. Sometimes when I am out and about in my own very casually dressed state, I look around to see what women are wearing. I mostly see women encased in yoga pants and sweat pants, sometimes paired with those fleece-lined house shoes like both my grandfathers used to wear. Sometimes though I see a woman in pants, and I give her credit for just having put on a pair of pants, no matter what the rest of the outfit looks like. I look forward to your closet revelations - and maybe some more alliteration.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked the outfit. It is absurdly comfortable but also feels cute to me. And the mules are my Vivaia slippers. When I stepped out of the house, I put on my red patent leather mary janes. You'll also see me in Friday's video with a different sweater and the same skirt. (Spoiler alert lol). On the days I shoot RUclips videos, I often swap out the tops and then pick one of the outfits to wear for the rest of the day. Yes Florida is also very casual, and now I feel like we do find ourselves congratulating other women when they are wearing something that isn't athleisure. It's so funny. But I dress for myself and not to the level around me because it makes me happy. Thank you so much for your comments and for engaging. It means a lot to me!
@@NadaManley I think you modeled that outfit or something like it with a variety of shoes, three of which were red or had red accents, and I liked all the red shoes the best, and it matched your red lips and short red nails. I forgot that you may shoot some of these videos at the same time. To me, a new outfit and a new video is a new day! I look forward to more!
Thank you! That’s just a glitch with the graphics. When I look at in a different browser it’s obvious there is a like button. It’s very strange though!

I have lots of stuff I cut the necks and sleeves so they would still fit for working out. I'm thinking I should get rid of these things.
Yes! Do not hold onto to clothes that make you feel less than cute or sloppy even for working out.
You have the most fun personality!
