I began searching out vintage silk scarves this summer and it has been so exciting learning about them and finding them for a few dollars! My favorite is orange with a cat sitting in a colorful flower garden, it changes with how I fold it! So fun!
I love scarves, colours to complement my outfit and silky comfort is what I love. My clothes are simple and really not expensive, but paired with a lovely scarf I feel elegant and put together in a special way. Scarves give me a wonderful comfort , and Signature style. Thank you for a great video.
The burgundy and green print Woodland print from Aspinal of London you show here is one of my recent favorites. I wore it so much last winter, and with this season’s burgundy and khaki green color trends, it’s perfect. The little bit of soft white is has makes it more flattering, because it’s not just dark all over. The quality is lovely, it didn’t even need that initial ironing. My cost per wear is already quite reasonable, even though the initial price wasn’t low.
I love scarves and have a modest collection. They add such a nice pop of colour to my simple sweaters in the winter. My favourite prints are paisley, geometric patterns and anything equestrian. You’re looking chic and elegant in the green shirt, necklace and earrings.
Thank you for another great video Marina. I love this topic. I agree with your picks and I think I have all of them in my collection. My favorite is the floral. They elevate every outfit and give you that something extra, even to a simple tank top. It's my go to accessory. I love the versatility of them, they can be worn in all seasons, around your neck, waist, handbag, on your head, across your chest or even over your shoulders. If you have the right ones you will find yourself reaching for them again and again. Other ways I use them is to tie them around a vase of flowers to give as a gift or around a vase of flowers on my table to add a bit of elegance, I have wrapped a present with them like gift wrap and it becomes a second gift, wrapped baked breads in them to present as a hostess gift, added to a picnic basket for flare and sometimes, depending on the scarf I have draped them over a table or dresser. Endless uses.......
I too have always been a scarf fan. I have many beautiful vintage scarves picked up for a song. I also love Liberty London, but you have to save up for those. After this post, I am on the hunt for an equestrian!
I have scarves. Many! I have an Aquascutum polka dot one that is very cheerful. Of course, I love the Hermés scarf which my late friend bequeathed me. I love it more because of who it belonged to.
You’ve given me a new way to look at scarves. In the past I was drawn to the colors and had not considered the print. Thank you! Also is the bandanna the casual cousin of the scarf? I have 2 blue and white bandannas and I haven’t really figured out how to use them.
Gorgeous as always! This is a very interesting and useful guide. Maybe give us a little more details about looks inspired by equestrian style? Boots, tweeds, scarves...
Dear Mariana, Thank you for another great video ! Love these scarf patterns aaand love this linen oversized shirt on you ! Where does it come from ? Are you coming to us soon with this gorgeous piece 🫠😍 ?!
I have always loved scarves, but I never thought of grouping them in this way. It was very interesting. Thank you so much! I also like and collect old brooches. One of my favorite things to do when getting dressed is to match a vintage brooch to the scarf I am wearing. It works especially well with a blazer or cardigan. I try to not be too matchy-matchy, but just to have a “nod” to a relationship. I teach piano and the sharp eyes of some of the little girls I teach absolutely sparkle when they spy my brooch/scarf combinations. I have had great luck thrifting old silk scarves. My latest has a lot of red in it, and has the emblems of all the grand old ski resorts from around the world. I am really looking forward to wearing it this winter! Thanks again. I love your classy videos.
Connie, I love the story about the piano students mesmerized by your brooches! I bet I'd be one of them ;) And on the topic of brooches, I think you might like next week's video 🤫
Excellent information that I wish I had known 40 years ago 🤪 I am somehow really drawn to the Emilio Pucci bright silk abstract (?) I’m not even sure what you would call that design, but I love it. I’ve got my eye on an Aspinal floral/fauna scarf now, I’m just waiting for a price that I can live with. I got a cross body bag from them a few months ago and am in 😍😍😍
Great video! I recently purchased the Banana Republic graphic scarf you featured. It is quite lovely and quite large. I was looking for one I could tie into a halter top and not break the bank. This one fit the bill quite nicely.
I’m a scarf lover also and I appreciate the lesson on what to buy. I have a burgundy and cream and pink scarf with tea cups on it and I just loved it. It’s real silk at Talbots. I have quite a few scarves, but only a few are silk.
I love animals and am always on the look-out for scarves with an interesting (not childish) cat or rabbit print. I also have a treasured vintage Mickey Mouse print scarf by Gucci, who commission artists to create amazing designs with nature/animal themes. A less pricey option if you like cats is Miss Patina cat print neckties in neutral, timeless colours.
I have a Hermes scarf which has the rope, paisley, equestrian 😀 so three of those 5, in one. I loved your video. Very nicely done. I also have square print. How about polka dot?
Hi Yvette! Polka dots are also such a classic! I don’t think it looks as luxurious as the other prints I’ve mentioned, but it’s definitely a fun one to play with.
I love scarfs. Sometimes you have to make sure you are not looking like a flight attendant when you are planning the outfit but they are the easiest way to put extra colour next to your face.
I'm a scarf girl all the way, and have been for years! Funnily enough, I tend to stay away from most of your "must have" , and prefer asymmetric flora / fauna or abstract but non-geometric designs! Perhaps it's because now that I'm in my mid-50s and my hair is going white, some ultra classic designs look very "old lady" on me! 😳 😂
Equestrial and paisley prints look very ageing if you are middle-aged or older, I avoid them (and tweet jackets with GOLD buttons). I like long scarves because they hide my tummy, and long skinny scarves elongate my petite figure (see how Kate Moss wore them in the 90s). Sequin scarves can brighten up a very neutral monochrome outfit
I totally get it… perhaps trying bigger scarves, that don’t require as much dexterity as a small one, could be a good starting point. It doesn’t have to be super intricate or fancy. Just master one or two knots and keep repeating them! For instance, I find it super chic to just fold a scarf in half and throw it over your shoulders, perhaps tying just the ends… takes no skill at all 😉
Thanks for the video. I do like silk scarves but I would never wear one with a chain/rope motif on it - let alone with something horse related. That's just too much for my taste.
Totally get what you mean... the first thing I buy whenever I have any type of disposable income is either a new scarf or a new pair of earrings. I'd be an extremely stylish pirate if given the chance 😂
Hand-wash in cool to lukewarm water (the lighter the colors, the warmer the water can be, but never too warm) with tiny amount of silk-safe detergent, rinse repeatedly, dry flat. Then, iron, or iron when wet from the rinsing, but the silk will cling to the iron a bit if the silk is soaking wet. Be extra careful with red, dark pink or burgundy ones, these reddish dyes transfer easily, I’ve found, but any color can. Or have them dry-cleaned. If a spot occurs, take them to the dry cleaners within 24 hours, especially if it’s an oil-based one from cosmetics, foods or beverages. The cleaners can perform near-miracles of spot removal, but not if the spot is set-in. Silk scarves rarely need washing if they don’t get spots on them, silk keeps itself quite clean. I hope this is helpful, friend🙂
oh scarves…a true passion! ❤ never enough of those…
Paisley print silk scarves are my absolute favorite! Many have such beautiful color combinations in their design.
True! I particularly love them in earth tones… reminds me of 70’s fashion ☺️

Glad you enjoyed it!
Love scarves! I wore one today over my head at church! I bought it in Poland and love it
They're so versatile! From church to champagne cocktails just by changing how you tie it ☺️
Thank you for this video. Do appreciate my silk scarves. With your tutorial, hope to add more to my collection.🎉

Is 90x90 the best size to start a collection?
@@MB-gc3qv It's your preference! I find 70/70 very useful also!
I'd say 90x90 just because then you can also use it during summer time to tie it as a top... but day to day I reach for a 70x70 more often 😉
I’m intimidated by scarves. My mom loves scarves but I’m “all thumbs” and never could tie them properly. I have two scarves 😂

Silk scarves worn next to the skin quickly smell muffy😢
