Exactly, he is loving, caring and protective of his people, but his heart is broken again and again. Poor darling.

I don't agree they both had dark pasts and a relationship where people are trying to help fix each other almost never works, but she was a cool character.

      I personally liked her
I thought that her story was interestingly weaved into that of Malcolm and Martin’s and it was nice to see Malcolm interact with someone seemingly normal
      Truly sad

Eve Blanchard was as bland as her name was. She left Malcolm once she concluded her agenda, she isn't missed. RIP to her tho

Eve's death does have shades of "the disposable women"/stuffed in a fridge, a female character who's death (especially if gruesome) that mostly exists to emotionally scar a male protagonist. But the fact is that in fiction most secondary characters in dramas exist to interact, help, hinder, hurt, etc. the main character or more central characters and most main characters are male but this has improved A LOT. P.S. has a main cast that is 1/2 female and everyone not in the Whitely family is a person of colour. It should be noted that diversity just changed the players, "the disposable man" does exist, think Alias season 1! but you still get characters killed to hurt more important characters regardless of their gender, race or sexuality: Tara on Buffy was killed primarily to inflict enough emotional pain on her lesbian lover Willow to push her into Dark Willow on a vengeful rampage/trying to end the world for the season 6 finale (Never have the words "your shirt!" sucked so much). Eve has was mostly killed to hurt Malcolm, push him in conflict with Nicholas Endicott and add emotional stakes to it, and create a believable motive for murder. But such are the rules of drama!

I figured this out as a very young kid watching Bonanza. Different era but this dynamic hasn't changed much, has it? Except for more diverse roles played by the main, secondary and tertiary characters.

Are you trying to defend why we have yet another rehashing of the white male cop drama? They could literally make the main family any race in the world, but noooo

@@horsegirlb7120 Defend it? No just point out that very little has changed over the decades. And let's face it. Not many shows with diverse characters get the ratings points they deserve, they get canceled or worst, ignored by the critics and viewers. Advertising money fuels this business. Off to find my copies of the Glass Teat and The Other Glass Teat by Harlan Ellison...
