Daryl Hall had a show called "Live from Daryl's House" where he'd bring all types of musicians from all different genres to his house in upstate New York and they would play and perform each others music, often with little to no rehearsal. Find the You Tube video from that show when Cee Lo Green sings "I Can't Go For That" with Daryl's band. You WILL rise from that chair and dance.
I think that I could go for that, love Ceelo, going to search for it next.
I don't remember ever clicking a video so fast. I got into them a little later than I should have, it was already 1999 and I was 20 by the time I really got into them but they are in my top 5 ever. They're so talented, both individually and together. They have a jillion hits, can't wait to see you react to more. May I suggest "So Close" and "Don't Hold Back Your Love" for a slightly different vibe than these (mostly) pop-ish ones? :)
Hall & Oates were magic, just churning out absolute bangers for two decades, like it's nothing. Also, mad props to Darryl Hall for pulling off a gold lamé suit so effortlessly!
We need to get saxophones back into contemporary pop desperately. 🎷💖
Couldn't agree more!
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude I only know of one other: Martin Fry of ABC in the Poison Arrow vid. The eighties were apparently magical and gold lamé is so underrated. 😭🙄
Hall & Oates are epic. So good to hear you appreciate Daryl's smooth vocals (also good that we could hear John's contributions on the live track). Love the musical build-ups and attention to specified sounds. So much of it was new and experimental at that time - combining new sounds with traditional instruments.
I love these songs. Listened to them alot on the radio back in the 80's
Darryl Hall was known for being blue-eyed soul like George Michael. Totally needed “Sara Smile” and “Maneater” in this mix!
ruclips.net/video/mlJlPUAyZmE/видео.html
Lol i love your stank face when the music just hits right
Thank you for watching! 😊
Glad you got to hear John Oates singing. I always loved his voice as much as Daryl's, But as time progressed in the 80's, as John put it himself, he became the best payed backing vocalist in the country!
They have so many classic songs!
The studio version of "She's Gone" is definitely better than that live version. (which wasn't bad) Also, it has a great saxophone solo instead of that keyboard solo, lol.
The description of their music in the day was and is "Blue eyed soul'. They were from Philadelphia. Daryl Hall has a web series called "Live From Daryl's House" where he invites other musicians to come and perform in his personal studio he built in his house.
The first three were 80's H&O, 'She's gone' is 70's H&O, which is my favourite, but hey, it was all good and of course 80's H&O had the mandatory sax solo's. If an 80's song didn't have a sax solo, was it even a song? Lol. Awesome, insightful reaction, thank you.😁❤
Thank you for watching! 😊
Sax was definitely mandatory 😎
Yes! You see where my screen name comes from now! 😎 I worked for these guys for about twenty years and they are the real deal. Extremely talented in every way and funny as hell. 🥰
wow! I saw them once, amazing show.
@@rebeccawilson9933 They have an incredible band. The Live From Daryl’s House band is the Hall & Oates live band. 😇
wow! what an experience that must have been! Got any stories for us??
@@csf7773 They are pretty down to earth. No crazy stories I can think of, but I missed the 70s and most of the 80s! 🤣
😂
80’s fact, you could not have a hit song without a saxophone in it.
Darryl has that perfect Blue Eyed Soul sound.
making me so happy with this one
Thanks for watching! 😊
Hall and Oates started off a little more rock and soul in the 1970s. By the '80s, they became a little more synth-pop-oriented. If you want to hear a little more of John Oates' voice, I recommend their 1980 cover of the Righteous Brothers' duet "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'." Other H&O songs are "Rich Girl" (1977), "Kiss on My List" and "You Make My Dreams" (both 1981) and "Out of Touch" (1984).
Great duo blue eye soul Singers with a lot of big hits.
The band in the 1976 She's Gone Video was epic. I was good friends with Eddie Zyne who was the drummer. I hired him to be in my band "Dreaming in Stereo" when he was in his 60's He passed away a few years ago but he is always in my heart ... Right after that 76 tour he gave Daryl Charlie DeChant's number and the Sax era of H&O started big time!
Have you checked out Sheena Easton? I think you'd love her. Impeccable vocals and a similar early 80's style. In the early 80's she had a number of hits that were popular around the time of Hall & Oates biggest hits. She does Morning Train, For Your Eyes Only, Telefone and Strut to name a few
I'll have to check her out!
wow I knew their vocals were tight but I didn't realize hall and oates has such interesting chord changes! Respect.
Love them. So many awesome hits. You might enjoy Live From Daryls House. He has random musicians come to his studio and they just sit around and jam! It's really good.
She's gone is my absolute favorite song of Hall and Oates ✌️
You should check out Live at Daryl's House videos. They are really good Daryl jamming with various artists. Seeing you love good vocals and harmonies and horns and base lines
She's gone live in London at the Old Grey Whistle Test, incredible absolutely incredible. Was lucky to see them live once and it knocked my socks off !
And here we have my guy's favorite band. These songs have been the soundtrack for every road trip we've ever been on.
A duo for the ages! Love them so much.
These guys are the GOATS!
In retrospect this One on One version has a definite Todd Rundgren nod on Daryll’s vocal twang.
When MTV came in full power around 1983-84, Hall and Oates had the good idea to make a specific version of "Say it isn't so" with the warped vocals in the middle of the song and the little saxophone bit to compensate the fact video clips were mostly limited to 3 minutes (with the notable exception of Michael Jackson's "Thriller", and at night Prince's "Automatic" for obvious reasons) while many album version of songs were longer than that. This recipe has been often used by other artists to add some pizzaz.
Your comments were insightful...and hilarious! "Dizzy from the camera work" & "Did they borrow the long table from Jesus?" Literally laughed out loud!😂😁
Thank you so much for watching!! 😂
Love your channel! You are so cool! These Hall & Oates videos and songs takes me back to my childhood hearing them for the first time.
Thank you so much! 😊
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude You're very welcome! 🤗
THEY KILLED IT IN THE 80`S
Wow! The She's gone video is a great find, I've rarely seen a video showing more of John Oats vocals than the regular videos , typically focusing on Dayrl Hall as the "lead" singer, they are both amazing
Sara,Smile is still my absolute favorite.
I saw them on the "Big Bam Boom" Tour in the mid-80's, great show. They ruled the 70's and 80's, played the Apollo Theater and walked away from fame while on top. Hall has a Web show where guests go to his house and play
One of my favorites by them is "Wait For Me".🥰
You need show Live at Darells House. So many different artists go to his house and play. It's amazing. PLEASE SHOW IT 🙏❤ MUCH LOVE TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY 💕BRANDI MODRAK 💕
I do suggest their live performance from 1983 - open all night :)
Yes!
Fun Fact: Daryl Hall told Rolling Stone that Michael Jackson admitted to stealing from him. He remembered Jackson saying “I hope you don’t mind. I stole the groove from ‘I Can’t Go for That’ for my song ‘Billie Jean.’”
Hall didn’t seem upset about this. He told Jackson “It’s all right, man, I just ripped the bassline off, so can you!” Hall didn’t say which song inspired the bassline of “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do).” Furthermore, he told Jackson “Oh Michael, what do I care? You did it very differently.’”
You have to listen to them live to appreciate their music when they jam!!
I don't recall "I Can't go for that" but I'm a sucker for the Sax.
i was in elementary at this time. reminds me of my grandma who passed away in 1989 every time I hear this group or George Micheals, her fave groups.
Daryl is pure blue-eyed soul from top to toe! Honestly you really HAVE to check out the Daryl's House series where he has various artists come to his studio and perform some of H&O song and some of the other artists! Top notch music!
Im good friends with Charlie DeChant who is their sax man since 1977 and Daryl is still loyal to him .. they call him "Mister Casual" because he always wears awesome suits on stage.
Yes! Love your reactions! She’s Gone is my fave of the four too! Check out Sara Smile 😊
Thank you!
Great reaction. BTW I saw the live performance for the first time. I didn't even know the song - thx for that. I agree, are live amazing. Nevertheless the most smooth sounding song is without doubt "I can't go for that" that were covered by "De La Soul" as a hip hop version and " much later sampled by "Simply Red" for the song "Sunrise".
Thanks!
Please do some more by Hall & Oates! Some suggestions: "You Make My Dreams Come True", " Kiss On My List", "Private Eyes", "" Family Man", "Method of Modern Love", and " Everything Your Heart Desires".
Cute fact - Darryl Hall & I graduated from the same high school - 25 years apart.
Digging your channel brotha..... nice to hear someone reacting even mention "chord progressions." Much love
Thank you!
LISTEN TO THEM LIVE LIVE LIVE. I HAVE SEEN THEM 16 TIMES SINCE 1979, NO BETTER BAND IN THE WORLD
You gonna love the studio version. Imho their best song!!
There was a time when they just pumped out hit after hit...love their music, some of the best the 80's had to offer
The sax player - Mr. Casual..wow!
Outstanding young man. This is good ol' fashioned grab your honey and be just that lil 'bit closer, when these cats were on the radio. circa 1980's High School
Thank you so much!!
killer soul sax
They were huge in the eighties they called Daryl Hall the king of blue-eyed soul
Full time forty year musician here bro....I love you for so many reasons!!! Got my like, sub and notify.
Thank you so much!!
If you do decide to take people’s advice and watch live from Daryls house, may I suggest The O’Jays ,used to be my girl followed by CeeLo Green, I can’t go for that. Excellent, excellent versions of these songs!!!!
Oh I love a bit of Hall & Oates 😊 they've done some amazing songs and I once heard someone describe Daryl Hall's voice as 'one of the honkiest voices in music'.....in a good way! It's an apt description! 😁❤ By the way the album version of She's Gone is fabulous and one of my favourites 😉
Great choices,
There is an interview with John Oates where he said speaking with Michael Jackson on how he borrowed the bass line for bad.
Some one said check out Sheena Easton she sang with Prince a few times , Hall and oats wrote a lot songs for others as well plus check out Lisa Stanfield her voice is amazing she did sing with George at the tribute for Freddie Mercury ,I know you like your vocalists and Lisa Stanfield has some vocals on her ,I wasn't into Hall and oats but still enjoyed your reactions to them I watch all your reactions , don't forget about George I am being patient honest I am ♥️😊
I certainly won’t forget about George! ❤️😊
Saw them in March of 1983...
STILL one of the best live performances I've ever seen.
Glad you got “She’s Gone” there! Their 70’s was so much Better than their 80’s music
I love that they named an album "Abandoned Luncheonette" ... today, we would have to live with "Abandoned Food Cart" and that just isn't as catchy
Very true! 😂
He is one of my favorites and he still sings just as well today in his 70's.
Hey I used to be able to work 2 registers at the grocery store when I was younger.
A very, very fine example of Yacht Rock. Koko would be very proud, indeed.
Daryl Hall and John Oates are the blonde and brunette respectively. Sax guy is fill in. I can't remember the name of John Oates' mustache.
If you do a part 2, check out family guy from them.
Family Man? OMG Peter Griffin should do a cover! 🤣
@@NoCanDu 🤣🤣oh my, didn't catch that. But that would be funny.
They have many more😊
Great reaction. And concept of multiple videos.
Thank you!
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude Your Welcome. : )
Love your reviews! 👍🏼
Thank you so much!
Check out Laura Branigan "Gloria" "Self control" "Solitaire" "Cry Wolf" "Meaning of the word"
they also my favoite dueos besides Wham
You know what I was born in '79 so I grew up listening to Hall and Oates and I know they are a group, but tell me why on any given day I call this man Holland Oaks like it's a single person and oaks like the dang tree lol get it together girl and great commentary as always! 😂❤️
I think I’m going to start saying “Holland Oaks” from now on. 😂 It’s got a nice ring to it!
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude lol you totally should. It just rolls off the tongue. Although I don't know if the band would like it 😉
One on One..I want to play that game tonight..
I like how you react to more than just one song at a time. you get a better idea of the artist
Thank you!
I'd love to see you do some @ Daryl's house videos. (As in, Daryl Hall, of coruse)
Some REALLY good stuff there. One of them should be one of the Cee Lo Greene ones. By the way, this one got me to subscribe. Oh, you should do some more OLDER Hall & Oates. Specifically Sarah Smiles. But I'd love it to be 4 older ones together. I like this format.
Thank you so much! Your feedback is much appreciated.
Dig it*....She gone 1976*...It is epic...I just had Empress react to it last week...Sincerely...Bend a ear... Poppie*...
Try Ultravox "Vienna". I would love to see that reaction if you've never heard the song. Original video is best because the computer effects and the mastering and production were so advanced for the time, they had trouble replicating it in concert
FIRST TIME HEARING! Ultravox - Vienna | REACTION

G E Smith on guitar!
Please kind sir do more H&O.
"Possession Obsession"
"All By Myself"
"Cab Driver"
"Had I known You Better Then"
Artist. Tom Ze' Song: Jimmy Renda Se
The song is cool....its in Portuguese and I have no idea what he is singing.
But god damn! Its one cool som bitch of tune!
you really should've listened to the original studio recording of "she's gone", far superior. this live version is definitely more free-form, ad-libed in style, which is fine if you've heard the original.
H&O favourite songs are from their '70s catalogue: "sara smile", "rich girl", and this - all great philly soul-sound songs. also "out of touch", their only ''80s song i like.
You need to react to 'Private Eyes' from Hall and Oates. Probably their biggest hit. Besides maneater.
Also please react to Baltimora - Jungle boy. Or Jungle life. I think it's jungle boy.
My bad. It's Baltimora -Tarzan Boy. Thanks.
Be sure to check out "Out of Touch" and "Method of Modern Love" when you get a chance!
Oh, but phones did fly like that. No better way to emphasize frustration with your "loved one" at the other end.
First!
I have a music recommendation: Boy Harsher.
👌
Could you please do Everything But The Girl and Swing Out Sister pleeease ♡ I love DH * JO
Steely Dan my friend.
"I can't go for that" is one of my all-time favorite song. If you looking for some sexy vocals with sexy saxo, you can try "Avalon " by Roxy Music and "Don't stop the dance" by Bryan Ferry (former lead singer of Roxy Music"
👏🏿👍🏿
De La Soul
I think they were on top of one of the Twin Towers ???
Studio version of She’s Gone was better imo. Having heard Hall and Oats, you need to hear Simon and Garfunkel. After that, Garfunkel and Oats.
One on One was my favourite song for a few weeks when I was 13! Great band. How about this Brit - American band from the early 80s (Foreigner) ?
