    One of my favourite bands of all time and my very first concert - Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, 1983.
    Brilliant performance above.

      Same! Too bad for anyone wanting to see them perform that they don't feel the same toward each other.

    The 'SRV-looking' guy was the late GREAT Tom 'T-bone' Wolk. One of the backbones of Hall & Oates live shows and the Live From Daryl's House shows until his passing. An amazing musician. Sax player is Charlie DeChant, also a long time member of the band and a semi-regular on Daryl's House.

      I miss T-bone. His memorial on LFDH was touching.

    Originally recorded by Hall and Oates in 1980, is wasn't released till 1985, the same year Paul Young
    made it to Number 1 in the US and Number 4 in the UK with this great tune.
    Daryl is one of the smoothest, most technically perfect singers and best soul singer of his generation with his perfectly delivered Philly Soul.
    The instrumentation is all so amazing, with the whirling organ's intertwined with Daryl's emotional vocal delivery.😢😢 So amazing. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Daniel. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

      I agree @@danielvolk237, I love both versions, although I think this live version by H&O is so much better than their studio version. I should listen to the studio version again, but I think I’d prefer Paul Young’s studio version over H&O’s studio version. This live version to me is in its own way (about) as good as PY’s.

    It blows Paul's version out of the water. Daryl's mother is a vocal coach, who started training him at age 3. The studio version is good, too.

    The studio version had the organ intro and daryl's vocals before the band came crashing in! And yes, it does sound like church! Daryl could have been a gospel singer! When I first heard the studio version, I had chills up and down my spine! Beautiful song!

    I don't believe Daryl Hall can sing any song bad! Have you checked out his version of "Me and Mrs. Jones"? Also wonderful! He does this song with Elle King in a performance on Daryl's House. On those Daryl's House videos, he lets his guest shine, and boy does she!

    The guitarist is probably Tom T-bone Wolk (bassist, but this guy looks closest to the one in the video - if anyone knows please correct me) who passed away in 2010 at only age 58. G.E Smith their other guitarist was a member of the Saturday Night Live house band and co-musical director, he is still alive. Both of these guys were in demand musicians. This looks like it was possibly filmed in the 90s but I didn't check to see if there was a date.

    Did you know that Jimmy Helms, Jimmy Chambers and George Chandler, who later formed Londonbeat (with guitarist Willy M.) sang the background vocals on the Paul Young version?
    You can see (and of course) hear them in action on the video of Paul’s performance at Live Aid.

    The studio version from their album "Voices" sounds more like Paul Young's cover. Their version didn't get as much air play because it wasn't released as a single, so it didn't become as popular as Young's. I'm sure Daryl didn't mind, considering the royalties he must have earned. Not sure what John thought about it.

    • @lauraallen55
      @lauraallen55 5 месяцев назад

      Especially since John wouldn't have gotten any of the royalties from it, and considering their overall issues with one another.
