Hi Eliot, FunKey S creators here, great video as usual. If the creators see this comment, kudos to them, we do not blame people for using our OS or hardware, on the contrary, we encourage it. The whole point of being open source and open hardware is for other people to benefit from our work and create new things with it (the powkiddy Q36 or the Anbenic Nano are great examples of this). So well done guys, you made a great product and a lot of work must have gone into it, especially since it's handmade.
@@traviswreynolds that happened to me TWICE this week! Do you know how bored i am of the forest of damned souls? Passing every damn time just for a potion. Why can't the merchants sell it?!
9:55 The Allwinner V3s is a fascinating SoC. Most SoCs require ram, but there are some SoCs like this one that also has the ram in the package like a microcontroller, but they have an mmu and everything required to run an os like linux. The Allwinner V3s cost alround 5 dollar on LCSC.
Yeah I was pretty confused. Not that familiar with the game boy advance so even though something looked strange I wasn't sure what it was. 😂 Looked for the video about it but couldn't find it until I found a link to his main channel.
I like that you've been doing more videos like this on your second channel. I enjoy content on both channels, of course. I may not comment on every video, but I do watch them all. 😀👍💯
Cool of FunKey to encourage this. That said, even if they didn't, I still see no issue with this. Even if these people are buying retail FunKey Ss and modding them by hand without telling FunKey, FunKey is still getting those donor console sales. They're still getting paid! I genuinely see no ethical issue with these sorts of mods even if the brand never verbally encouraged it.
Hi Elliot, I messaged you earlier on eBay about possibly signing a Gameboy if I bought one from you for my Dad who's a massive fan of yours. He's a a real difficult few years with his health and him having a sign piece in his Gameboy collection from you would make his year. He doesn't know I'm contacting you. But it’s because of you that he started to fix up and collect Gameboys again and he now has over 50! Thanks for your time. Keep up the amazing videos. Kobe.
The FunkeyS is OpenHardware though, so legally they can even make an identical copy as long as they don't call it a FunkeyS. For example the RG Nano is just a FunkeyS in a metal shell.
The Nano Game Boy was gorgeous, this one is delicious. I have an original FunkeyS and it's a very delightful novelty. This form factor though is very alluring. The Funkey OS is very good, and after having had a look inside, I might just consider a purchase on this little fella. Good find. Also; I saw the screen tear.
I have NEVER seen a GBA Advance like that before. It’s so wide! I’ve looked online and can’t find any pictures or information or anything! Am I missing something here?
If only someone could make a wider version of the unmodded GBA. Or a taller version. I like my Gameboys to be useable as a cricket bat or a small picnick table.
Hey Elliot, would you be interested to make a video about RetroAchievement? Its a plattform where people can experience retrogames with achievements, where you can really earn them by people who digged up the memory Just a video idea because the community and the handling is very cool and introducing it to more people is always nice!
If you like the horizontal form factor on a micro console, but without the suspicious jankiness of it apparently being a modded console in the shape of another console. There's the TrimUI Smart. I'm thinking it should be the same size as this, also two buttons + shoulders + dpad. Screen in 4:3 tho, for better or worse.
Funny note: the funkey OS this thing has is def modified, funkey OS is made to render on a 1:1 screen and this seems to have some sort of 3:2 screen meaning they did modified the kernel a bit in order for this to render properly on the 3:2 screen. However it is funny that it says funkey S on boot XD
If this is funkee OEM product, then this company still needs to purchase it from funkee to develop it. Likely a wholesale agreement, so buying this isn't not supporting them if they're enabling it and profiting from it If this is not OEM from funkee, and it's just generic then any reseller has access to it anyway It's also a valid possibility that the same facility produces the product for both funkee and this company Or even the possibility that funkee is doing this under a generic brand too But what you're saying is totally possible also. I manufacture some products in china myself that I've designed and they are being advertised on various Chinese marketplace platforms after I developed it. That's life 😂
That's weird that you have to go into the menus and change it to the proper aspect ratio rather than using L&R like you would on an original Game Boy advanced. Lol
I had a Funkey S, two of them in fact, was super excited to fund the kickstarter but I was disappointed in the end as I had to find the bios files to run certain emulators on roms, the shell would click on the edges when I’d press the buttons, and the battery life was extremely small. I cannot recommend the Funkey S for PlayStation 1 emulation. It’s really designed for quick play and go or just a novelty. I’d rather play on the original Gameboy micro for GBA.
Im pretty sure that seller also makes a Nintendo DS lite inside a mini nes shell. Plugs into tv and wireless controller. Review that! Its double the price. But no one did a video yet
What the hell is that purple knockoff you're trying to pass off as a game boy advance at the beginning of the video? It takes literally 2 seconds on Google to see that you're comparing apples to bananas
For those wanting an emulator, do yourself a favor and invest in a Retroid Pocket 4. For the extra money you get the power to play PS2, more GC/Wii than on the Pocket 3+ or Pocket Flip, and all the nice bobbles.
"i wouldn't buy this because they ripped on the funky s".. how you could say that with a straight face without seeing the irony is beside me lol. Edit: just saw the comment from the funky s maker. Much respect to you. Great attitude.
I got one of these, put it on my school backpack, and some buttons got held and it ended up in the recovery menu and I think it wiped the memory. If you have any advice on how to navigate these menus (because the recovery menu is rotated 90 degrees for some reason, leaving vital text unreadable) I would really appreciate it, because I turned 100$ into a paperweight.

i really want to buy a funkeyS but the local post is really bad here in argentina.. is there a way i can pay for a private one so i can buy one? :(
That completely original and definitely unmodified purple gameboy is pristine.
What the hell is it lol.
I was gonna post this
@@pooounderscoreman the longboy advance. there's a video of him making it on one of the channels- don't remember if it was this one or the main one.
😂
Elliot made a Longboy for no reason..he does that

Are you me? Some multiverse thing? :)

But my socks don't look like that...
Nice to see the FunKey S creator being so openminded.
Love the idea too albeit I would be scared about losing it :,D
Gameboy Micro: "Am I a joke to you...?"
Haha The friggin' long GBA mod killed me 😂💀
0:51 i can imagine anyone who has just come here for their first video seeing this and thinking "what in the actual FUCK is going on?!?!"
Yeah I was pretty confused. Not that familiar with the game boy advance so even though something looked strange I wasn't sure what it was. 😂

I can't imagine playing on a screen even smaller than the micro
I have and love the micro is one of my all time favorite handhelds.
Eyes hurt

Its really hard to look at the screen.
Elliot: looks up😂
That's where his camera is
Not me checking my calendar thinking it was somehow April 1st already when he pulled out that completely normal "original unmodified GBA"
Cool of FunKey to encourage this. That said, even if they didn't, I still see no issue with this. "This one's a 'little' bit wider" 💀💀💀
That purple BIG boy does not look UNMODDED 😂
0:55 That GBA looks a bit wider than ususal. Maybe the camera angle... XD
The way he acted like the "limo" boy was the regular GBA, I died lol.
never thought I'd see the day where the GBA turns into a choking hazard

what’s your email?
Every time I put his email my comment gets deleted so I’ll send it to you on eBay. Hopefully that’ll work
Hope this works stevenatt32 with the Apple cloud email ending
imagine taking this back in time and convincing people that you invented a shrinking device

Excellent video as always. I busted out laughing when you pulled out the wide boy advance. Keep up the great work.

idk what elliot was trying to do, but he legit made a video of himself modding that gameboy. :0
Now that's what I call a Gameboy Micro
You freaked me out with that wide-ass GBA, I was questioning my own memory.
If you have a giant magnifying glass you can almost see what is on the screen.
Glad you bought this, I wanted to see how it would play, no reviews on it
Hi curious why you don’t share a link to this?
post a link so we can check it out or maybe purchase one. Nice video!
Is it me or Elliot has been more unhinged lately? This one was so good
it's basically the Gameboy Micro's brother
‘Unmodified’ used very loosely I see 😂😂
What an awesome pristine completely unmodified gameboy you have there!
Elliot, I recommend doing manicure. Going to be better aesthetic for the contents
impressive that this tiny device can run all these games with a crisp screen
That's freakin adorable. I want one just for the gimmick, but maybe later when I'm not so poor.
Why is yours so small, Elliot?
looks p average to me man
I'd love a size comparison to a GBA Micro!
I have NEVER seen a GBA Advance like that before. It’s so wide! I’ve looked online and can’t find any pictures or information or anything! Am I missing something here?

I love RetroAchievements. I got all of the achievements in DKC recently and it was awesome replaying the game while also trying to get them all.
Love these teeny weenies. I'm 49 and me eyes are screwed but you youngsters snap em up I tell you!!! Best keyrings ever.

The only that gba mini makes me wish is that the original gba did had a backlight in it.

It’s not April yet…
That s origional as a interchangeable game child .
That's weird that you have to go into the menus and change it to the proper aspect ratio rather than using L&R like you would on an original Game Boy advanced. Lol
Lol. "It's very difficult to see and play".
Next line: "You know what, this is absolutely perfect", then continues to explain why it's really not 🙈
This would be cool for grade school kids. Sneaking games in class lol
Very similar to the Powkiddy Q36 which also uses the FunkeyS OS. Maybe 1/2 the price.
mini-HDMI or similar
output would be nice
Just in time for the new Shantae game!
Also, where did you get that mini DK GBA SP?
I had a Funkey S, two of them in fact, was super excited to fund the kickstarter but I was disappointed in the end as I had to find the bios files to run certain emulators on roms, the shell would click on the edges when I’d press the buttons, and the battery life was extremely small. Isn't the screen a different aspect ratio than the funkey s though? 3:2 as opposed to 1:1
What the hell is that purple knockoff you're trying to pass off as a game boy advance at the beginning of the video? It takes literally 2 seconds on Google to see that you're comparing apples to bananas
A GameBoy pocket one also exists! Are also planning to buy that?
Great reviews on both the GB mini and GBA mini, where can one acquire both of these?
bro pulled out a game booooooy 💀
Epic!! I love these tiny devices 😅
Thats what she said...
Dang, they missed an opportunity to put the USB C on top and make a cover for it that looked like a game 😂
they came out with a mini gamegear a few years ago was a big ordeal and then it was like just china gotta import lol
Such a cutie.. I'm glad you showed a totally original GBA to compare it..😂
Speedrun category here we come
Tiny Nintendo DS review when? XD
So the Wideboy mini modification when?
I feel like your unmodded gameboy advance looks a bit smaller than mine.. hm.. might jusy be the camera angle.
Where was that high pitch voice come from at the end lmao😂

"Its naughty to be selling it" when its a console chock full of stolen ROMS.
"ABSOLUTELY"
"i wouldn't buy this because they ripped on the funky s".. how you could say that with a straight face without seeing the irony is beside me lol.
Edit: just saw the comment from the funky s maker. Much respect to you. Great attitude.
this is incredible whats sad is untill i can afford to mod my gba this has a better screen than mine haha
For what it is, its way too expensive. That does make it perfect for a video though. Thanks Elliot ❤️

What in the hell was that purple thing you called a gameboy advance lol
What's that fighting game at 04:36?
Whatever that giant purple hand held is, it's not an original gameboy. Surely it's an OG gameboy advancein a large aftermarket modded shell.
Can you buy it, if you can, where?
Amazing as usual
Make a miniature wide boy!
For the Gamer who has everything
i want to buy this where can i?
good for collection
Eliot where can i buy these?
funkey doesnt have usbc tho this is cooool
Gameboy Advance THE LONG WAY
Thanks Elliot 😀
Lol that purple gameboy definitely wasn’t modded too be longer not at all 👀😆😆
Amazing man amazing, love your videos ❤ !!!!!
4:29 screen aspect is better than funkey S. the square screen with wied side bezzels on funkey is keeping me from buying one.
powkiddy q36 will cost you at least half, just put a sticker on it
