Changelings are my favorite race to play. Glamoured Studded Leather is a changeling's best friend or Mask of Many Faces. Changeling Druids are fun. They make great spies and infiltrators.
As a house rule in my games, changelings can be reproduced from the result of changeling and non-changeling. When 2 changelings reproduce, the result is a doppelganger. So I was playing my changeling druid who was a half-sibling to my friend's gnome rogue. We were con artists. He would sell me in animal form, and I would sneak away.
So wait how often do your characters have children??? LOL
Also how would selling you as an animal work? Would you always be like a similar sized animal?
One of my favorite characters I've played is my Changeling Rogue. The thing that makes it so fun is that the party knows they're a changeling and helps come up with plans to use that. Everything from pretending to be a party member's husband so we didn't look suspicious when traveling through certain areas, to pretending to be a jail warden to facilitate a breakout, to simply messing with people's heads to throw them off. It's been a blast and my teammates are so fun.
If you have the guts you can do amazing things with the changeling. It takes guts. I bet it’s a lot of fun for you though.
Do you have a favorite moment?
What about building a Changeling as a “Pact of the Undead”?
Their shapeshifting adds more to “Form of Dread” with the “Shadow Touched” feat, along with fear-inducing spells.
Convince your dm to give you the ua version and get that extra fear going and you are solid!
Changelings are an interesting race. They make good spy or assassin characters. Whispers bard is very thematic but they already have the ability at sixth level to change into the shape of someone who died but it only lasts an hour and bards already have disguise self. You can still do a changeling whispers bard since disguise self is an illusion and the mantle of whispers has a limited use.
The thing about mantel of whispers and the changeling is you don’t have to lose the the memory or the face after that hour. That can be a persona you use time and again. Like say you don’t wipe out these bandits for example. You can use that same person the next time you interact with them. It stays as a back up play.
In my current campaign, I'm playing a changeling who's also a cleric
Ooo what type of cleric?
@@TheSinisterheroes I choose a life domain cleric, tbh, this is the first time I play as either a changeling or as a cleric
This is a great way to play as Shang Tsung from MK or any other shapeshifters. How many personas can one use?
Background Feature: Faceless
Eldritch Invocation: Mask of Many Faces: Disguise Self
Race: Changeling
Class: College of Whispers + Assassin Rogue
Tools: Disguise Kit
That’s a big kit to gather but yet s absolutely put on a self restriction that you only shape shift into some one you killed and your spot on
Here's a character concept i have for this and a bit of it was inspired by someone from the fairy video but i forget who exactly but this character is a mastermind rogue changeling who is apart of a kings royal undercover black ops organization and the only people who know this organization exists is the royal family and this character lets call them "Flex" for now and Flex specifically is assigned as one of the princess's (let's call her Elizabeth) personal information gathering spies and secrets guards in which they both carry a secret and deep romantic fascination with each other and Flex only leaves her side when she or the king needs them to do a very specific and delicate task that needs to be handled discreetly and there's no one else available at the time and only the royal family knows that Flex is a changeling and ontop of that only the princess and Flex knows that they have a secret relationship with each other a really interesting character concept in my opinion
It’s a great character choice. I like that your always bound to a regime your so tethered to a way of life to step out of it would be so awesome.
You really need a political intrigue campaign. This kind of character would be a waste to just have in town for a day and then vanish from town. Something that would take place in a central area kinda like ravnica yeah that would be dope.
A changeling warlock with mask of many faces its a hell of fun
Absolutely. Though they kind of step on each others toes. It’s the clothing that’s the problem.
Just saw a video going over how Friends is quite the underrated spell. This would give you advantage on charisma checks on 1 target for a minute before they turn hostile towards you. But, you would walk in as a "Dragonborn bard" named Cleo, get the information you need, and leave the alley. Turn the corner and stride away in confidence in your normal form and the poor sap will be none the wiser.
That is very true. Also in regards to friends if you have find familiar you can turn it into a spider and have it sit on someone’s boot and cast it through the familiar, keep it on for long long after your done and gone. Making friends exponentially better.
@@TheSinisterheroes Wow, this cantrip keeps getting better! Casting it through your familiar.. wow, I think I wanna push these interactions to the max. Thank you!
My pleasure just remember when you Mr dm hates you, you tell him it was me muahahahah
The clothes not changing is not all that much of an issue. Glamoured Studded Armor and/or shiftweave, problem solved. No need to waste any spell slots or a Masquerade Tattoo for disguise self, and no need for a disguise kit.
You know with a wealth of knowledge about magical items you can do some immense stuff. I myself don’t tend to have a lot of magical item knowledge. Simply because most of my games until recently have been rather low on magic items. In fact it helped out a lot of DM’s to keep combats interesting and not over gift items and make pc’s really strong.
That is 100% a better solution. Thanks for mentioning it. I tend to get wrapped up in skills and abilities and very often neglect items.
@@TheSinisterheroes no worries. I know some people scour through info about magical items to try and min-max, but I like to look at items for utility and quirky RP lol.
YES!!! That’s cool I dig it!
Glamoured armor at all costs lol
Yes your right 100%. Not only dose that help compensate for your cloths not changing, but as I always say there’s no excuse to not look sexy
@@TheSinisterheroes lol
It’s a curse that knowledge lol
Similarly, Shiftweave can help with the clothing issue, and it's only a Common item.
Sadly. We had a new player who meta gamed and ruined mine. Even going as far to cast zone of truth. But it is fine now.
Wow, why though. Did you do something that caused such a stir that they needed to uncover you?
@@TheSinisterheroes We were roleplaying and my DM let something slip a little, but it was not that big. So it got to the point where the person even attempted or was going to moonbeam me. Also because I was a warlock he did not trust me. I sometimes would not even get healed because they knew I would revert to my changeling shape if incapacitated.
ill be honest it seems like you were in the wrong group. thats stuff gets under my skin. dont get me wrong you know that your putting your self on a short leash when playing a character like that. though to be just punished till your outed is not cool. or even just outted for no good reason. i mean you are a warlock but did you out wordly say i am a warlock? ill be honest it happens to me like alot LOL so i am right there with you. but when you find your groove and the right people it wont be so bad.@@hexsing2760
Wait, I thought Mentle of Whisper already disguises bard into the dead prey up to 1 hour.
Still, Changeling can be great Secret Agent Man especially with Eloquence Bard.
It dose but you can keep using that persona as a changeling, you can’t keep the disguise with mantle of whispers after that hour but once that magic fades you can rock out with your species ability and own memory to keep that persons life
Wear and carry the most generic looking gear imaginable, only the coloration sets it apart from 100,000 items just like you as a changeling are wearing/carrying and using the Disguise Self spell to ONLY change the color/pattern of your gear, really. unless someone saw you alter yourself or your gear it should be fool-proof.
Just carry a reversible cloak and a change of cloths and your good to go.
Or make your character wear a uniform, a standardized piece of clothing worn by many people
