@@sagemcchesney4734 It can be hilarious if you do it right for example I'm making an aberration blood druid so I can turn into aberrations people and animals and later on I'm taking draconic wildshape. So just putting it out there this guy can be OP if you need a boss.
I think Changeling gets a lot because it is up to DM to balance it. Once a changeling is outed by openly using their abilities, they are going to face a lot of discrimination and suspicion. They might not be able to use their abilities at convenient times if they will ruin trust, or lose their reward. Even if they just decided to use the form they get bonuses for a tool with, the majority of the time, they have to spend their time as a persona separate from what they feel is their genuine self.
Using their visage to protect from an attack could have them arrested, it could make sense for players to turn on them. And they might never be able to avoid being outed by something with truesight. A Changeling could be seen worse than a goblin.

A few extra Changeling facts:
If a changeling that turns into a female ends up becoming pregnant, they are stuck in that female form that they took on until they give birth.
baby change things not being able to control their powers, often poses a big risk to outing one of their parents as being a changeling, so oftentimes baby changings will be dropped off at an orphanage's doorstep anonymously to avoid the baby giving the parents away.
This one's more of an idea or inspiration, but unsettling visage could be instead of turning into something physically grotesque to start all the person, you could go for a more psychological horror by turning into possibly one of their family members or friends or loved ones before they attack and beg them to not hit you. It's a little more evil but a cool moment in game given you know the enemy you're fighting.
Also a Way to create another cool moment, is working with your DM to play a changeling bard or a rogue, and playing as a passer changeling as discussed in the video. And hide from your party members the fact that you are a changeling, then one day have a big reveal, this could be because of something with true sight seeing you and calling you out, someone from your past is hunting you down and reveals to your party that you are who you say you are and that they shouldn't trust you, or one day in a really important fight just as you're about to go down by an attack you use your unsettling message in front of everybody.

My changeling is a sorcerer who uses magic with his shape shifting to compliment each other. Turning into a tiefling for fire resistance and becoming a furry creature with cold resistance. So if I use a spell I use a transformation that compliments it
You don’t get abilities from other races, just the appearance.

I have a changeling soul knife rogue who disguises itself as a 16 year old human who claims to go to wizard university but is very clearly not old enough and not a wizard. It works really well because the general sense that she’s hiding something can be attributed to her very obvious secret

I recently started my first campaign and the list of races the DM provided had changelings on it so I chose it. I ended up having them be from a circus of all changeling cast, with the circus accidentally leaving them behind after a series of events like the beginning of home alone.
Imagine a steel dragan on his final life finally finding a friend in a changeling 😭❤

Honestly becomers sound like a plural mood tbh. Might try making one as a character and have different headmates playing different personas
The ravnica centaurs confuse the hell out of me cause they are described in the book and in other lore material with having the bodies if draft horses... Those are big horses. Yet they are tiny in comparison.
What if you had different people play the same character when he changes...like one person plays the rogue then another plays the barb...

Changling Bard storyteller or singer! Being able to instantly change your voice and appearance to enhance your entertainment performances would be so cool!
Plus, if you go for a stereotypical 'seduces anything that moves' bard (which I hate with a passion)...you CAN change your race, appearance, and gender at will so.....

For my changeling (Tarx) when they changed into a Warforged, they took on the appearance of a Warforged but instead of being made of metal and wood their skin hardened into a sort of chitin shell to feel more like a Warforged
Some of these Changelings remind me of Roger from “American Dad”. I should make a Changeling PC.

I’m currently playing a changeling eloquence bard with the actor feat. With my changeling abilities combined with expertise in deception, advantage in deception if I’m posing as someone else and inability to roll lower than 10 in deception meaning without advantage, my minimum deception roll is a 21 safe to say I’m a living nightmare for the dm as soon as a social encounter comes up.
I played a changeling assassin that infiltrated two rival city gangs as two different people, worked their way up to leadership positions in the gangs. when my party was leaving the city I had each persona challenge each other to a duel, and then accused a third gang of killing both parties during the "duel" which brought both first rival gangs together in grief who joined together to destroy the third gang while the changeling skipped out of the city with the rest of the party.
Why not let changelings choose between an extra language, or having a persona with double proficiency bonus?
Been playing a changeling and use a disguise kit on myself as well just so they can have a Scooby-doo moment
I think the concept of class switching becomes less broken when you look at it like "Jack of all trades master at none". Like maybe their bard is just absolutely horrible but by god do they commit to the bit
I'm going to have my changeling have a main identity, but then actually use the split identity that you get the tool double profenciency, and then use a disguise kit on that identity. It's a quadruple bluff.

Lol I was clearly confused. I was reading an OG correspondence we had in my lonely discord about it and things have been illuminated for me
my changeling seems to be a mix between passer and a becomer, partially because of what he passes himself as, a fey. he was raised by a fey who are able to change their appearance at will and are known for deception anyway. so my changeling's "passer" persona and primary form he uses is a an eladrin elf and like a passer thats what he sees as his true self, a noble fey. but because fey change form anyway he also uses his shapechage ability regularly to act out roles of his choosing, like a becomer, for some fun fey themed deception. and its becuase he passes himself off as a fey that hes able to use his abilities whenever he wants. as Fey aren't seen the same way changelings are
I always choose changeling mainly because yes while there's just one background, class and race for the character I can just make the changeling turn into someone else and then make a fake background, race and class for them

Warforged are essentially alive so changelings can become them they are organic for the most part
Passers has chosen to forsake their true nature, to live a life in disguise, in a full lie and I can understand why the other changelings discriminate them

You've confused Flash Gordon with Flash Thompson. As for whether or not it was Flash Thompson it's been too long since I've seen those episodes I thought it was Hydro man, who was a literally watered-down version of Sandman that was changed for the cartoon from Sand to water for some reason I am not fully aware of. But I haven't seen those episodes since their original run.
Since I first about them when Eberron came out, Changeling identity has always kinda reminded me a bit of identities in the trans community, especially in regards to the 3 options for Changeling dealing with the dominant society. (I just mean this as a bit of fun insight as someone heavily involved in trans community health for yrs in my youth; some terms may have evolved).
The changeling "passers" reminded me of trans people who are simply l)l)aadriven to change to a specific physical form ie its not about identifying as trans (changeling), they identify as their new/pursued identity/form (the term for this was transexual, but "transexed" would be more accurate as it refers to the sex of the body, not sexuality).
The Changeling "becomers" corresponding to genderqueers ie changing gender expression as they see fit and the fluidity aspect being central to the identity.
The last are Changeling "reality seekers" one corresponding to gender-variant people who happen to be outliers in terms of gendered traits and want to be taken as they are.

So all these Eberrron episodes we did before the new book came out are obsolete stat-wise. These stats come from the Wayfinder's guide to Eberron book, but the new book Eberron: Rising from the Last War has changed pretty much everything. We will revisit all these races because of this.

No, their stats don't change when they shapeshift, and they can't shapeshift wings either.
"You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your game statistics change. You also can’t appear as a creature of a different size than you, and your basic shape stays the same; if you’re bipedal, you can’t use this trait to become quadrupedal, for instance."
If I remember correctly Aarakocra are medium, so Changelings can look like one, but the wings would be as useful flying as ostrich wings.

I havr heard a mistake and it bothers me greatly. Dopprlgsngers are not naturally evil they are natjrslly neutral and its not that they kill eithout thought they are naturally self centered but they do nit kill with any malice and instead harm theh deal id often ineirectly done. Not to mention they are described as havjng the same build as an elf. Slim and tall. Yes grey and hairless but rarely skeletal and gaunt

I had a funny idea of if two changelings were both impersonating people, getting into a courtship. And when it's time to get all freaky deaky.. They realize "Wait you're a changeling?!" "No wait. You're a changeling?! You liar!" "I'm the liar?! You're the liar!" And they proceed to fight each other.
I also love the idea of if two changelings were after the same person. They realize this and they both fight over the person.. Or they both somehow kill the same person, and take the identity of said person.. But said person also had a twin. So now there are three of the same looking person.
Could a changeling kill another changeling, and take that identity?
1. Basically the spider-man meme.
2. That would be very weird.
