    But in Arma, 1 shot is enough for me for the enemy, and I can fill my entire backpack with ammo and grenades, and in HD2, 1 fucking bug absorbs half of an armor-piercing clip, of which I only have 6, and then you can shit yourself in the middle of a wave because you've run out of ammo and your stratagems are on cooldown

      Personally have found running Gatling barrage, gas, napalm, and quasar/500kg to be really effective because you can keep up with the never ending hordes
      Also never playing on orbital fluctuations

      Flamethrower was a fan favourite stratagem and very balanced since it was terrible against the bot front. Also its range was terrible and prone to friendly fire and self harm. The OP Narrative from certain fan boys is pathetic and disingenuous.

    Here's the thing, this is a repeat occurrence. So their excuses mean nothing here. Community members have been vocal. The problem is that Arrowhead simply does not care. They've directly acknowledged our frustrations about nerfs and then continue to do it anyway.
    Anything they say here is meaningless. We're beyond that now, fix the problems you made.

      To be completely honest, I think BOTH Arrowhead and the game's community are still lacking better communication in some areas. In my opinion, if I wanna compain I'd rather complain to Pilestedt since he's the one working directly on the game instead of Jorjani (no disrespect to him btw). I suggest doing so with a clearer train of thought so if he does end up responding, the chat would atleast be somewhat more effective. Dude still has his account that you can go to anyway.
      I'll also say that there's a much better way of being vocal about this instead of just throwing insults, calling names, yelling etc. Like giving more proper criticisms and maybe some other good, concise suggestions worth considering than simply just "BUFF EVERYTHING!" but I do agree that they should atleast buff the weapons that are hardly being used so that they'd actually be viable alternatives. The devs "wouldn't listen" especially if MOST of the stuff they have to listen to is incessant screaming, insulting and and overall just off-the-charts toxicity.

      Ah, another mouth breather, who doesn't understand how suspension of disbelief works. Spaceships, aliens, robots, futuristic weapons are all part of the universe we're playing in. We're suspending our disbelief to allow this fantasy to function. Mundain objects do not fall under said suspension of disbelief unless contradicted so in a setup of the story.
      There's another discussion we can have about realism affecting gameplay negatively, but from a narrative standpoint allies and realistic guns don't contradict each other.

That there has to be elements that have to be somewhat grounded. What considerations were made from limitations in tech/game engine, game design, and world crafting.

      lol the pick rate for that in automaton territory is literally like 60% at least. i wouldnt doubt that they nerf it at this rate. if they do that i might actually uninstall because im a bot player first and foremost and bots ragdolling me for 20 minutes straight is already enough pain for me.

      While I play bots mostly, the new impaler for the bugs is so stupid. When one spawns, you're pretty much in a constant state of ragdolling if you're within 150m of the thing. Much worse than rocket devastators IMO (not that rocket devastators are fun either).

      @@upon1772 Rocket Devastators are manageable. Keep your distance, pay attention and stick to cover. They also die really fast.
      Impalers are tanky, unavoidable and can sometimes straight up insta-kill you. And they also tend to throw your items across the map, samples included.

If you just so happen to miss them, due to bad weather or lighting and terrain on the planet they'll keep harassing you. Thats where they're annoying. Ignoring this they're not much hard to kill.

    If they want realism, don't give infinite ammo to bots. The CEO gave a shit response with "should magazines just be 10x or 50x, where does it end?" Brother, we are asking for the fucking minimum. But they don't care, they made money off of hundreds of thousands of players, it doesn't matter that they are down to 30k or less.

    If they are going for realism it seems realistic that gunships and rocket devastators would have limited ammo, such as 2-3 rocket salvos before running out. Dropships when getting shot down kills everything onboard. Bug breeches getting closed by strategems would make sense too if your slamming it with an orbital strike or airstrike.
    One way that would be good to limit difficulty would be to have a global dropship reserve count enemies have they can use during a map that slowly regenerates. So at say lvl 6 they have 10 reserve count, a dropship call in brings 2-3 dropships. If you take out a dropship(s) it counts against that reserve count, the dropship eventually regenerates but it takes say 3-4 minutes a dropship to be added back to the reserve count. So if you happen to blow up 10 in a span of 2-3 minutes some how at the start, the enemy can do a call in but nothing will come cause the reserve was exhausted and can only regenerate 1 dropship every x amount of time. So you can operate with the strategy to drain the dropship count to zero, enemy can call it but nothing comes for instance. Helldive can make the reserve higher such as 25 or something, with a slightly shorter regeneration time. This would also make sentry turrets rather worthwhile to setup dropship traps.
    Bug breeches can have some other mechanic such as blowing up a breech should be possible.
    But, no were just going to have the players deal with realism difficulties while giving enemies unlimited ammo and what not.

      I think the game could be more fun had they implemented an RTS style AI, where they have to actually construct additional units, rather than them spawning randomly, and the only spawned patrols (other than constructed ones) come from the edges of the map

    The CEO called it a 3rd Person Action with Milsim elements, which is fine, but the game is a horde shooter first and foremost because that's what they made. If they are unwilling to treat the game as a horde shooter, then the game will die.

    There is way too much drama coming out of arrowhead and it has overshadowed any story they are trying to piece together regarding the in game universe. It feels like helldivers is less about us against the enemies of democracy and more about the players vs the devs.

      Mostly AH and the players is pushing for a very different game. I believe people who find the nerf game breaking probably will enjoy EDF6 more. That is a game based off a very different game design.
      I can see what AH is pushing for, but just not necessarily making things fun for the huge player base that they didn't expect.

    The nerfs just weren't needed, it was the opposite actually. They needed to buff weapons people weren't using.... As for the bugs, they need to fix them immediately. I have had crashes, launching my character, missions not working, random kicks and lock outs since I got the game. Just fix that, surely it can't be that hard.

      You want to know the best example of Arrowhead going out of their way to ruin fun for the players? It wasn't the railgun, it was the arc thrower. A gun that was at the start a bit of a joke due to subpar damage, propensity for teamkilling, low range, and generally just being a meme gun...they went and nerfed it anyway. First the range, then the fire rate (because people found a workaround to increase said fire rate) then the stagger was nerfed AND it had a chance to cause teammates to disconnect from a match. All this because one dev said it was capable of "slapping" bile titans across the map.
      I'm fully convinced no one at Arrowhead actually plays this game.

      There's no reason to be cynical of a smaller game studio that clearly put a ton of passion into their game. People need to chill out. Frustrating update? Yes. End of the world? Obviously not. Let them own their mistakes as they've been doing and let's see what comes. I have faith they can find a good rhythm. And frankly, the average player in this community complaining about nerfs also just has no comprehension of high difficulty game design. The game is meant to be unfair at the higher difficulties. If you want a balanced/fair experience, the middle difficulties exist for you. But I do have sympathy with the "feel bad" changes like the original eruptor nerf removing shrapnel and this recent flamethrower change (although I still find all flamethrowers to be effective against bugs, all the way to difficulty 10)
      All I'm saying is that there is surely a way to accomplish satisfying weapons along with that classic stupid high difficulty of super helldive, without buffing every weapon to match the best weapons (because that could effectively eliminate the difficulty)

    This was no “falling through the cracks” it was a systematic and repeated pattern of behaviour by the “balance team” who are taking the butchers cleaver to EVERY new or popular item, usually via removing anything unique but often following that up with MASSIVE nerfs to ammo capacity/efficiency and recoil.
    Only, this time they GUTTED a flame weapon AND THE FLAME EFFECT 2 days before a flame based DLC/warbond.
    Then they tried to obfuscate the nerf by hiding it in the long list of “misc fixes” despite this being the biggest gameplay system change since stun grenades stopped working on titans.

      Fire damage was bugged at the time, otherwise flamethrowers would have been better at taking down chargers and mobs.
      The armour on everything was so high that rocket lauchers were nigh worthless.
      Chargers didn't die when you headshotted them with the law.
      WHAT DID YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN? OF COURSE people would use the only thing that worked, AND EVEN THEN, you had to know HOW.
      "Shoot the BT in the cheek" is not a very helpful suggestion while 10 mini-stalkers are feasting on your asscheeks!
      SO, now when the game is in such a good spot balance wise with a variety of enemies that aren't too vulnerable...bring back the railgun, but make it "Too fast and small to kill", just leaving cauterized holes in soft tissue.
      Like, it can remove armour, but its better to switch to your primary to finish the job on soft parts, like how charger legs work.
      AND EVEN THEN, just make the sweet spot REALLY near to the max "you blow up now" spot.
      You're already risking life and limb on this mechanic, WHY KEEP IT SO WEAK THEN?!

    The milsim comment only goes so far. The reality is that HD2 is not Arma. It's a goofy sequel parody, which its predecessor did spectacularly. AH today is just dysfunctional and undeserving of any good will at this point. Warbonds with less for the same money, nerfs that make no sense, a game with no fun, a community fractured because of stupid crap reinforced by terrible community managers and rogue devs. Whatever success they could have had, they evaporated it.

    I adore that Jorjani argues that mil-sim games include a system where you "Reload and the whole mag is spent" as both of his examples (ArmA and EFT) include mag retention and are based on magazine capacity rather than an ammo pool.
    He then has the audacity to ask about magazine capacity when talking about the IB when they nerfed the number of stored magazines and it's recoil (Which if anything, the incendiary shotgun should have far less recoil, as real incendiary shells are less energetic than standard shells like buckshot, which if his game is surrounding realism, this would be the case). This guy has no idea what he's talking about.

      It’s funny how the incendiary still does more physical damage than the spray & pray, but they haven’t touched that gun to get it used more. They saw the incendiary was the most popular weapon (since it was the only fire based primary) and nerfed it cause it was “meta”. Now they are trashing weapons cause the are reliable. 75% on them SHOULD be reliable! Wtf?

      Take sandstorm insurgency for instance. If your mag is not completely empty and you remove it from the firearm you don't drop it on the floor and load a fresh mag when you get back to that magazine that you just stuck in there of course it's not full but it has the same amount of ammo in it. I always thought it was pretty funny in most video games when people just shoot the magazine of their gun out onto the floor and leave it there especially if they are still bullets left in there.
      Also a lot of magazines are usually $20 or up so if you've dropped five of those on the ground you're out $100 right there say nothing of the ammunition that you left inside of them.
      And what happens when you find a box of ammunition later on what are you going to load that ammunition into? The 100 something dollars worth of magazines you left way back there in the dirt?

      We updated the game to spawn more enemies and gave enemies new stronger variants. We updated the player arsenal by giving them less to subvert tech progression. -AH

      Thats not the case at all. Adjucator has higher recoil and less ammo, so its kinda a trade off. The Penetrator gets 10 mags and like no recoil, they both are two sides to the same coin and really up to how you play.

But because of the ridiculously low damage, you literally are digging your own grave if you think about selecting it for any bug missions at all. It needs SOMETHING to help it out, even like 10 more DMG. I love the gun, but I can't justify using it over the adjudicator.

      @@Zacho5 Penetrator takes half a mag or more to kill a hiveguard, y'know, the thing you would take it to deal with "effectively". Last I'd checked the numbers it did roughly 75% the damage of the standard Liberator with 66% of the magazine capacity and can have trouble killing the smallest terminids because it's damage is so low.

    It just occurred to me that, technically, any any robot trooper could realistically weigh about 300 lbs, depending on what they're made out of. Which is to say, our real world AT mines might get triggered by a robot. That's not really an excuse for the videogame mines to be as shit as they are of course.

      I was going to comment this but got caught up with magazine capacity
      The automatons' infantry would weight quite a lot, as if the human skeleton was made of steel, that alone would weigh about 160lbs iirc, so with their armor and armaments, they could definitely reach ~250lbs minimum
      Especially in regards to Devastators, where they're much larger than humans and raiders, and have well over triple the armor, even standard devs could weigh around 400lbs, and heavy devs could easily reach 600-700lbs

      So the enemy is extremely heavy, if we are making anti-tank mines why would we not just offset the trigger so it only triggers at much higher weights? The enemy dictates the weapons we build to defeat them, not the other way around. We also have more than enough data from defeated enemies to know exactly how these bots are build and how much they weigh.
      We could even have a different weight trigger for each front

      Even the in game demo vid for them looked disappointing. It took 4 AT mines to destroy 1 hulk that was charging right at them. Obviously in a real scenario you'll also be shooting the hulk so it's health will be going down faster, but that's still just sad. You're better off bringing the HMG emplacement and shooting them in the visor with that. It's like 2 or 3 shots to the visor with the HMG emplacement to kill both hulk variants, and you have a lot more emplacement ammo for the other enemies.

    I work in a corporate, entity driven type job that mirrors a game studio in many ways. I can assure you that these bad decisions are not made independently or without authorization.
    This concept that mistakes were made because people were out of the office is extremely hard to believe. I also believe that they understood this would be an unpopular decision and move forward anyway. Once again, these types of decisions are 9/10 not made in an uninformed manner.

    I worked as business dev with Scandinavian game studios. And I've posted a warning in Thailand Helldivers Facebook group 2 months ago, about they'll be trying to reduce the playerbase till game die. Because there is pattern I've seen before. They already earn 90% of what they potentially can, and server cost for crossplatform is quite high. So basically if they cut loses then they'll make a good profits.
    And also I know that couple of senior key personals quit studio last year before launch. Like Gameplay lead producer and more. So I was suspecting toxicity at workplace. And the CM kinda confirmed that.

If what AH is claiming is true is, they are facing absolutely cataclysmic communication breakdowns with no one in the company knowing what anyone else is doing.       Its some 12-year-old behaviour. They F'd up badly (to nobody's surprise), but rather than own up to the mistake and try to fix it... ..they just went and blamed people who werent even there to begin with.
      As much as AH made it to my list of companies I despise, I do feel somewhat bad for those that went on holiday. Imagine having left on holiday with the game in a somewhat sorry state but the CEO asssuring you everything would be okay - and then returning to this; Not only is the game in an even worse state than when you left for your holiday, your own boss is now blaming /you/ for all of that.

    Despite school and my work. I still find time for this game. Despite nerfs, the crashes, it is insane. I'm usually not bothered by it. Its getting ridiculous, games almost unplayable. Most broken it's been, change my mind.

      Absolutely. Most companies do this to save time. Adding something totally new requires a lot of new coding, unique animations, etc. It's the kind of work they do when making the game from the beginning. When they reach their end goal, that is when they mold existing assets into something akin to nothing more than a variant.
      I wish game devs would make more new additions

Games like fortnite change the entire map every once in a while, with new guns every week or two.     I don't think the players would have cared if the incendiary breaker had gotten more recoil as a nerf if they had just left the ammo capacity alone. In my squads opinion is already an ammo hungry choice that works well. Why leave us in a sticky situation without ammo?

    The developers do not play their game. This is at the heart of every single decision they make.
    Until they play their game and understand what makes players so damn upset they will never be able to balance it properly. They'll nerf and kill guns until nothing is fun and everyone will just move on to another game from another studio that actually knows how to have fun.

      Just takes practice. Granted, especially on 9 & 10, there are times you get gibbed by an explosion you dodged but not far enough and it starts a whombo combo ragdoll to death. I'm not good at video games in general, but I play 9s regularly, only and now 10s. I was hot trash on my first 10 helldives. Now I'm mvp among my squad. Practice and learning where to be when shit goes down. "Slice the pie bakery. Making corners safe since guns"

    Seriously, I want the Bots to reach Super Earth. That would spur a new environment to fight on. Knowing Arrowhead, the Super Earth biome probably isn't ready yet and the bots will just stop before actually reaching Super Earth.

    Seems like realism only counts against the player and never in our favor.
    Why do enemies have infinite ammo if they want it realistic? Limit Mg raiders to 2x200 rounds, rocket devs can't reload and gunships to 2 rocket pods and then at least the rocket spam wouldn't be as bad. You could just take cover, wait till the enemy is low on ammo and then charge.

    Literally look at the spray and pray compared to the incendiary. Has one more bullet way less damage and no burning. Maybe buff the damage on spray and pray instead of nerfing the incendiary. There are so many useless weapons after 6 months it's EMBARASSING. so yes balancing and nerfing IS a problem, just as much as game issues. Their poor balancing creates metas and then they nerf the meta

    First, revert the changes to fire weapons (FT, BI, etc.) That's an easy way to "fix" the balance patch. THEN, from there, take a look at what weapons/strats are not being taken into missions and why. Buff (NOT NERF) accordingly

    The eggs and confidential data heads as currency to buy super credits and armor would be amazing. Someone who regularly plays on level 10 will not care about 2 super samples because they’re likely maxed out. But giving us more to spend the samples on (weapon upgrades perhaps) would be nice too

    Honestly, if they want their game to actually live long enough to be a Live Service Game as they intended, they need to do simple things.
    1. Stop nerfing viable weapons and buffing inferior weapons so there will actually be build variety.
    2. Bring back weapon upgrades or add customizability. In HD1, you had to upgrade weapons and some players avoided specific upgrades simply because they didn't like them.
    This allows people to have actual variety when using the same weapons, as opposed to literally everyone using the exact same gun. This could also remove the asinine need to make the EXACT SAME GUN but shoots acid/fire bullets.
    Granted, number 2 would then require them to be more imaginative when making new weapons as opposed to "same shotgun, but flamey-flamey."
    Edit: Unironically, constantly nerfing weapons/builds is the exact reason Back 4 Blood died. While I'd say Helldivers is leagues above Back 4 Blood, it's certainly not immune to player scrutiny and a slow death via constant player nerfs coupled with enemy buffs.

    Arrrowhead is not used or sized to handle the success they had... it is clear that they did not expect it and they are still scrambling around perrsonnel and stuff. The ragdolling is insane... the impaler keeps you ragdolling between tentacles until it gets bored of you and stab you to death

    I understand where they are coming from but enemy density is way too insane to consider this a milsim. Imagine how shit ARMA would be if you attacked some small outpost and 30 seconds later 3 M1 Abrams and 300 infantry showed up. The realism in the gunplay, gore effects, and player damage is fine, but they need to understand its a starship troopers-esc horde shooter and treat the weapon sandbox accordingly

OK, so let’s be realistic, if it was irl the Superearth MoD wouldn’t send soldiers to kill, waves and waves of hundreds of aliens that each take over half a magazine to die; with no extendend mags, instead they give us less ammo every update. It just doesn’t make any sense that some weak weapons have 30 shots per magazine. It’s just so unrealistic given the circumstances.

    Your egg idea is dumb. That'd just mean a constant stream of free items that would cost the developers time to restock or produce new free items. Getting research out of it is just better, preferably mostly rare samples as that's what most people end up lacking for the 5th and 4th module upgrades.

      I had an idea for some incentives for missions, for secondary objectives: players would receive 5+ on medals if done quickly as it wouldn't be for free as in lore wise like for data. If the divers don't get that data, it will be lost and taken by the automatons. For bugs, that data would have been buried in a bug sinkhole. For primary, divers gain 5 super credits for successfully extracting, and it counts for how many divers actually extract.

    I think the biggest worry they should have is that if this game does not climb back up in popularity, the release of Space Marine 2 is gonna hurt BAD

    I can understand the whole summer break excuse, but it still signals a larger problem that this happened after they went back on all previous nerfs. It makes me wonder if there’s a group of stubborn devs that are really insistent on making the game worse for whatever reason.

    With warhammer 2 comming out, arrowhead better get their shit together, that game looks like the power fantasy we are looking for

      I don't think Helldivers 2 was ever meant to be a 'power fantasy'. Which isn't to say you can't be powerful, or to justify these bullshit changes. Out of the two games, Helldivers 2 was just definitely meant to be the harder one judging by its first game.

      I think space marine coop will be fun and the story hopefully is great, but I think HD2 will have the better coop experience. HD2 is pretty dynamic and diverse in their mission structure, and I doubt space marine has had as much focus placed in the coop. If it has though then yeah HD2 will be hurting

    4:15 the problem isn't the nerf. It's the CHAIN of nerfs, to the point the company needs to somehow be sued or overwatched by a third party to STOP nerfing.
