Hey folks thanks for waiting around during the delay. I appreciate all your support. This episode take us up to the halfway point of our 700km journey. It was a tough one for me to edit and you will find out why. You'll probably have unanswered question's and concerns. It's a difficult life out there and every reward comes with a fight. I have written a book that will go further in depth on what happened in this episode, the others and what was never filmed. It will be released this summer along with Saku's own children's book. I will make copies available to you all when possible. As for the rest of the series there should be three more episodes out over the next three weeks. I'll keep you posted here and on my social channels. My aim is to upload Episode #6 this Sunday. Thanks for watchin.
Scary stuff, Saku must b a good swimmer to of got out of that. Did you replace any of your missing gear, I'm not sure I'd have felt safe to of carried on without a shotgun or at least something else to scare bears off?
wow, hooly dooly , what an episode to come back too, hey! Man, i would have have been just as torn up about saku as you were, but thankfully him and you were ok. It really goes to show how risky plans can be and how they can change in a split second. Hopefully there aren't any more "events" like that in future episodes! In hindsight, would you get a life vest for saku for other canoe trips in rapids? Or just not do them with him? lol Another great video, can't wait for the next one. Cheers mate
@@hoightb Hey man thanks for watching. The jacket is a touchy subject in white water for both man and dog. The issue is the hydraulics of the river. The are a recirculating currents in holes as you may know. If I get caught in one I need to remove the jacket to get propelled out. If Saku had gotten caught the buoyancy of the jacket would likely have pinned him in there because he could not remove it himself. Rescue would have been near impossible eventually drowning him by intake of water. The best bet was for me not to run it at all, but after hammering the first two I felt unstoppable. Lesson learned for me and hopefully many others
I cried as I waited with sinking stomach as you called for Saku. Ten minutes after the video and I am still feeling your pain. God was definitely with you two, that day.
Damn. That was intense. There are not many videos on RUclips that I've watched that made me completely focus and kind of hold my breath like that bit of you guys going down the rapids did. Glad you guys made it out only losing a couple things!
I just watched the video of you Funk and a friend were in the rain and Funk dunked first then when you turned to get her you dunked. This scene and that scene my heart raced and sank at the same time. Scary stuff, glad everyone is safe thank God!!
You win some, you lose some? Jason, you win every friggin’ endeavor you participate in! Hundreds of thousands of us wish we had the physical strength and fortitude that you have! Thanks sincerely! Thank God for Saku’s life!
Screw the gear you lost, you got your dog back!! That's a MAJOR coup!!! You're a hardy fellow JB..living by your wits..you'll be fine, no doubt in my mind!!!
Saku’s one tough pup 🦴 a well deserved treat for the little man. I love your positive never say die attitude. What you’re doing is truly inspirational. Keep up the great work my friend. Already can’t wait for the next one 👍🏻👍🏻
I was thinking portage...when you came up on that area, high cold spring waters, and overloaded top heavy raft! I’m so relieved you and Saku are ok! Humbling moment no doubt and a great life lesson. Best adventure video series on RUclips right now! Thank you for uploading this story of yours Justin.
Definitely but in the heat of the adventure confidence brews and obstacles don't seem as threatening. After running the first two I felt unstoppable. Lesson learned for me and hopefully many others. Appreciate you tuning in Mike buddy
Holy cow brother. That scene was the most emotionally intense moments I've seen in a while. My heart sank and my stomach dropped. I was terrified for Saku even though I've seen your uploads since and knew the outcome. I can only imagine how hard you were shaking during those 20 intense minutes. Sorry, I don't mean to make you re-live it. Just wow. I'm glad it worked out man. Keep up the awesome adventures!
Ugh the Newfound Marsh. In '97 I was a Katima-victim who helped cut a good portion of the East Coast Trail. I remember going out to scout and flag with a group of 5 of us. Trudging back to the car, I was last in line (and likely the heaviest) when I suddenly found myself waist deep in what had been, for the previous 4 people, solid ground. The wind and rain in this video brought back some pretty vivid and physical memories. One day I'll get back there.
A big accomplishment doesn't come easy or we would all be doing it. Risks are taken but we never want them to pan out. That was one daring white water and you paid a small ransom but got back quite the experience having been ejected from your voyage and that's what adventure is all about. How you manage to do it all yourself and still lay down an excellent video is beyond me. This series is the greatest . So glad you took the challenge.
wow not only am I happy to see an upload from you after the month break but seeing that whole ordeal with you and sak making it out okay after the raft flipped was breathtaking. Almost couldn't believe what I was watching I had to rewind a couple times, a gut wrenching scary scene no doubt! So glad you and sak made it out okay AND continued on your way like champs!!! Seriously man continue to stay safe and I'm hoping many more blessing keep coming your way..
Best episode yet - for the wrong reasons. My heart stopped for a few minutes, and I held my sweet lab Maya tighter during that time. Saku is a very special dog, you could see the relief in his eyes once he found you. Can’t wait for the remaining episodes.
“We will be dry, when we are dry” - Justin Barbour 2018 This one nearly had me in tears....when it ended 😭glad you and Saku are good. You learn to tie your gear down in the boat after you take a dunk. Thanks as always, looking forward to next weeks episode.
Very glad to see you both are doing good! An old saying that I tell my kids: If you make a mistake and you learn from it, it was NEVER a mistake to begin with ... it was a LESSON. I wish you all the best my friend (Saku too)!!
Justin best channel I have had the pleasure of watching. Dude you rock. I love that you don’t swear in your videos. My kids can watch with me. You should be on the discovery channel. Can’t wait to see more vids. Thanks buddy
As per the other four episodes, number 5 was a pleasure to watch. Adventure got REAL there buddy when the raft overturned, could have been a disaster in more ways than one. Your right , we all get complacent when we get comfortable in a situation, but these accidental events, remind us of the dangers everywhere. Keep up the adventures. Many of us, are using your eyes and experiences, to travel Newfoundland that many of us cannot do. Thanks Justin for letting us share the experience.
Justin man, this episode was great, that had me on the edge of my chair, what a great job you did staying as calm as you did. A shotgun and battery can be replaced, you and Saku can’t. A inexperienced person may not have survived this. Can’t wait for the next one
Justin, my son!! Your one lucky boy. I've capitalized a canoe in a cold river, and I was minutes from home. I can't imagine what you must of felt, being out there.what a journe! I have to tell ya I'm enjoying the series more then most stuff I've seen. Great job man.
WOW! Bit tense there. You never know, one day you're catchin fish and relaxing around the fire and the next in an instant all can change. Way to keep it cool in that situation. I'm loving every minute of your journey and the sceneries and sunsets are crazy beautiful. Loved the shot with the stars and moon at the setting. Thanks again for taking us along Justin. Keith
That written invironment info is great. Like, I do have a sense of what a marsh is, but more precise info makes the video much more relatable. Great job man!
Wow, crazy episode bud. Kudos to you and Sak. I'm surprised u got him back in the raft at all. lol. I can only imagine Heathers thoughts when you told and showed her the video.
That.....was....intense! I sat up in my seat when you and Saku went under. Then I was on edge until you found him! I am so glad the two of you made it out with all body parts intact. Best episode yet and I've been hooked since the beginning. Can't wait for the next episode!
So well edited Justin. Must've been such a hard thing to do. The hat is well and truly tipped to you sir; so hardcore. I raised a beer in honour of Saku, your good self, Scout (recently departed) and Joe. Very different people I know but tough times are tough times and we deserve to give each other solace and friendship, especially when things go South!! Much love indeed.
I cheated on episode 2 and checked to see if Saku was still alive in the last episode. So, I must say, as gut-wrenching and harrowing as this episode was to watch, I had the knowledge that you were both ok. Thank God! Exciting stuff. Greetings from South Africa.
Well worth the wait sir. Can't lie I got a little choked up and anxious inside when you were desperately crying out for Saku, glad you boys made it out. Hell of an episode.
Loving this series. So raw and real, great job capturing all beauty as well as the harsh realities of such an epic adventure. Your optimism and positive outlook on life is infectious and inspirational. I felt sick watching the raft flip, and then you calling out to your copilot Sak. Just glad your both okay. Looking forward to your next release. Godspeed.
You are a soul to be admired at many levels, your adventurous spirit, you positivity, your optimism, you respect and enjoyment of nature, your sincerity and your overall skills as an outdoorsman. I was specially very touched and understanding of your deep despair when you lost Saku for a while. Without realizing it you displayed your innate sensitivity, your humanism and your immediate priorities., all to be appreciated . You are a rare good man. I am thankful for people like you around and am fortunate to have got to know you through video media. My favourite thing you say often is , “Sak, what do you think bud ? “
Hey bud, Murph here. Sure glad you and Sak made it out alright. I couldn’t imagine what was going threw your mind when you couldn’t find him. But again awesome flick. Really enjoy your content. Can’t wait to see that haul of trout you scored there next video. Cheers Justin Buddy.
The trust that Saku has in you is unconditional, so glad he is safe. I got separated from my beagle in a snow storm before, it took over 2 hours of searching before he just popped out of the bushes like he was on a stroll at the beach.
I cried when Saku was lost and I was happy when I saw the bears thank you for sharing all these emotions your adventure is beautiful 👍I follow you 🇫🇷 Al Bushcraft
Unbelievable. My heart sank when I heard the concern/panic in your voice after capsizing and losing Saku. So glad there was just some “minor” gear loss and not something worse. Stay safe out there. Cheers.
OMG I was soooo engrossed in this vid , my heart was in my throat when you and Sak upset in the river , thank GOD you both made it , and made it un hurt , that river is surely a force to be reckoned with, anxiously awaiting Ep 6. Take care , great video as always.
Another great episode. My little one she’s 8 was having a tough day. Her mom just left for two weeks at muskrat falls. But Saku really cheered her up and helped her get to sleep tonight.
This episode was worth the wait Justin, so glad you and Saku are safe. I've got furry children myself and I know exactly how you must have felt during those moments, I'm sure those 20 minutes felt like 20 hours and when you finally spotted old Sak you must have been overwhelmed with emotion. I did a river trip with a friend last spring in a canoe, lots of snow melt here in Alberta made for some fairly intense rapids. Same thing happened to us, we were smashing the lines and feeling quite confident... All too quickly we dove into a section and got bounced off a large boulder and turned sideways against the next one, the strong current grabbed hold of our sideways canoe and rolled us over in a second. Lucky it didn't fold the boat in half! Can't wait for the next episode!
By far the most exciting and riveting episode yet! So glad everything turned out ok after you both fell overboard! Sure looked scary!! Can't wait for the next one.
So glad I watched crossing Labrador before this series, otherwise I wouldn't have enjoyed waiting to find out if Saku made it out of the rapids alive. Thank god you both did!! This series is giving me life during Covid isolation...thank you!
Man, Justin I'm very engaged in this series. Your videos are so genuine, the pace is very good through your editing job and your "on the field" and post narration really make us go through the hard ships and joys of your adventure. The capsizing bit was so intense! I was on the tip of my chair. Thank you and I can't wait for episode 6. Cheers from Montreal (go habs go)
Saku is such a good BOY! standing still while you adjusted the pack. But what a nightmare when you dumped. Poor critter. wonder how he ended up where he did. Go safely!
That was definitely very hard to watch - I’m glad you kept your head on and handled it so well. You are a great team! Thanks as always for the video, and can’t wait for the next. Give Saku a pet for me 👌🏼
I wept while you were calling for Saku; primarily due to the emotions conveyed in your voice that were raw, visceral and real. That both of you came through unscathed was truly fortunate. I look forward to watching the rest of your trip. Keep up the great work!
You lucky bastard Justin....The wife actually yelled out no! So glad you skated by that dump in the water. I'm very impressed with the mental toughness you demonstrated and the way you didn't dawdle and pressed on once all was accounted for.Well done brother.
Dam was on the edge of my seat for that one that was scary but your right can look back at it just move forward dogs are tough glad he is OK.oh yeah and you to Justin LOL
Wow. what an amazing episode. What a hazardous adventure you and Saku had. Understand why the spill in the raft is so difficult for you to watch. I could see that you were in shock for a while there. I'm sure others will agree that it was such a relief once we found out Saku made it as did you. So lucky. Really looking forward to future episodes. Thanks Justin and God Bless.
Loved this episode Justin!... I did have a legit panic attack started bawling and cried for the rest of the episode when the raft capsized and Saku was gone. I immediately thought of how I would feel if I would've been in that situation...my dogs are my everything... I can't even imagine how scared and upset you must've been before you found him. Glad you both made it out of that situation safe and unharmed. Can't wait to see the next three episodes! I'll definitely be picking up a few copies of Saku's children's book!
Omg, this was the most intense one, I could hear the fear in your voice. I am impressed by your ability to recognize the learning lesson. So relieved you were both ok.
Another one for the books. You put off as good a show as anything I've seen on discovery or national geographic. I'm happy both you and your buddy got out of the rapids alright. You must have felt awful lost and hopeless for the 20 minutes or so while you were looking for saku. No trouble to hear the panic in your voice. Thanks for the raw emotional experience. Great episode.
The downside to your trip maybe the loss of your equipment but the upside is you found Saku down the river in 20 minutes I'm sure you're happy about that a nice trip thumbs up being in the tent with the snow coming down all cozy out there in the wilderness
"Just lost a whopper. Let's see if we can get him to bite again." Very next second, a shot of bannock cooking over the fire all by its lonesome, saying all that needs to be said. Great editing! Enjoying the video immensely, I am.
Fell asleep last night and woke up this marning and put your video on the big screen was awsome glad you a sack made it this far cant wait for the next one cheers brother
This is the best outdoor adventure i've seen on youtube , amazing !!! I did look ahead to make sure Saku was alright, what a series . The editing, the filming ...major motion picture quality and the music is perfect to !!! Big fan

Ok...so what is the award for top adventure dog and how do I nominate him. Seriously.... The byes are back.
Holy jumpin jesus, what a rush! Get a life jacket for Saku especially for the river runs.....

Wow thats a story there. Thanks for sharing and really appreciate you tuning in. Cheers from Newfoundland catch ya in the next one 👍
Holy crap Justin, I almost lost it when I saw that footage! Adrenalin overload.. you too' hey bud! So thankful you and Saku made 'er out ok!
Like other followers, I've been looking forward to the next episode. Great to hear that you have done a podcast with Paul Kirtley too. Dandy!
Thanks Mark! I had a great chat with Paul. Wicked guy
So glad Saku was OK. My heart jumped a bit wee there. Great series Justin, keep it up!
Thanks for watching Mr., catch ya in the next one
Such an incredible dog saku is, amazing for him to swim to shaw for safety. But it really makes your realise how carful you need to be outdoors
By far the most exciting and riveting episode yet!
So glad everything turned out ok after you both fell overboard! Sure looked scary!!
Can't wait for the next one.
Bro, that was intense man! I was worried Saku was gone, so glad you found him. What a journey
So glad I watched crossing Labrador before this series, otherwise I wouldn't have enjoyed waiting to find out if Saku made it out of the rapids alive. Thank god you both did!! This series is giving me life during Covid isolation...thank you!
You and your dog are awesome!
Thanks Susan! ; )
God was and is with you. You are fighting the good fight. Please do not stop.
Cheers from Montreal (go habs go)
Thanks Marc-Antoine I really appreciate you tuning in. Cheers from the Newfoundland buddy
Glad you and saku are ok, awesome video.
Thanks Larry appreciate it buddy
I'll be definitely wanting a copy of that book, Justin. You'll go down in Canadian history, Bud! That's for sure.
Wow, what an intense episode. For a second there I thought saku was lost. Glad you and saku is ok.
WOW! another great episode, thanks for sharing!

My heart sunk for Saku, so happy you both are okay. Jesus.

Wow and bravo. You and Saku are such great adventure pals. Can't wait for the next episode. I am enthralled.
So glad this is out I really enjoy watching this while I'm away at work keep it up man you make us newfoundlanders proud!!!!
Thanks Les buddy glad you are enjoying it, cheers from the homeland!
Man hearing your voice yelling out for saku hit hard bud
One heck of a standing wave, Saku is a swimmer.
Thanks Amanda really appreciate you watching, hope all is well!
Omg, this was the most intense one, I could hear the fear in your voice. I am impressed by your ability to recognize the learning lesson. So relieved you were both ok.
And I very much so look forward to the book....Go Habs!!!
Thanks Johnny i'll keep you all updated. Habs for life buddy
Amazing and emotional, don't think I ever felt anything like that in an expedition video!
Great episode, you had me holding my breath for a minute during those rapids. Glad Saku made it out! Looking forward to the next one.
Amen, to that brotha. Glad you kept that, it's so important. Bless you, .... you have a life long friend in Saku. 🌹👍
Talk about being glued to the screen. Brilliant m8.
my heart stop for a sec,, geez dude it must have been intense ! good job you and youre dog are awesome !
THE WAIT WAS WORTH IT!!!! Hey Justin, nice video and good luck!
The downside to your trip maybe the loss of your equipment but the upside is you found Saku down the river in 20 minutes I'm sure you're happy about that a nice trip thumbs up being in the tent with the snow coming down all cozy out there in the wilderness
The gear means nothing and Saku meant everything. Thanks for tuning in and commenting Brian, cheers. Justin
"Just lost a whopper. Let's see if we can get him to bite again." Very next second, a shot of bannock cooking over the fire all by its lonesome, saying all that needs to be said. Great editing! Enjoying the video immensely, I am.
WOW! My Heart sank. So Fricken Glad both of you are alright.
Big fan
