When I’ve tried to register my DOT medical card at the DMV they seem to say that there’s no point in giving us your card. It seems to me that maybe it’s because I’m a regular class C Driver. So since I’m a regular class C Driver, do I need to actually carry my DOT medical card around with me?

I got pulled over a few months ago in south carolina working outside of my home state (georgia) and the officer told me that I couldn't drive the box truck anymore because I didn't have my DOT and that since that was my second time getting pulled over which was 2 or 4 years prior driving a box truck ,that the only way he wouldn't violate me as if I go to the clinic for an exam physical so he told my boss to call me a lyft from the gas station to take me and he literally waited until my lyft came so I couldn't leave if I wanted to so it's kind of like I had no choice I had to get my certificate which was in south carolina at the time and I didn't even know what I was supposed to do once I got it til I saw your video it expires next year in august can I go to my local DMV where I went to get my driver's license or will it have to be in south carolina where I got the actual certificate ?Any suggestions
Now what if a Medical examiner puts MEC on hold and you go to another a pass the exam and get certified and submit it online ? Does that overwrite the hold on last card ?

How does the medical examinator fill out medical card with alternative vision standard? I used to have vision waiver but now it's no longer available, but the check box is still there qualified only with vision waiver/exemption?
Yeah doc checked wearing corrective lenses and accompanied by vision waiver, state just kicked it back 3 weeks later needs to be corrected, for people that have or had a federal vision waiver card must not be checked off for that you just qualify under normal federal regs.
I went to get a DOT physical at CityMD in nyc, I didn't fail just that it is pending. I showed him my recent lab report from my PCP, and told him I have type 2 diabetes - non insulin (my a1c level is 7.2). I also told them that I needed to take a dot physical so that I can take my cdl A permit test in ny. Well I just found out through the FMCSA that this doctor is not registered with them, in fact it was a physician assistant in that clinic who is registered (but was not examinated by her). So my question is this: Is the exam valid? Will it still get reported to DOT? Can I go elsewhere for my exam and not get flagged by FMCSA as "shopping around"?
Hi Pedro. This seems like a complicated situation. If the provider is not a certified CME they should not be performing DOT physicals legally. If you were to go to another registered CME and that doctor passed you then that exam would likely supersede the exam you had done. This is just my opinion however. There is no “shopping around” report that the FMCSA has on file. Once passed by a CME you are certified. Hope this helps.

Thanks! Each state has their own rules about reporting to them. Here in Ohio you do not need to actually go to the BMV to report. You should definitely check with your state.
I just recently found out about insulin dependent diabetics being able to get their license. I watched several of your videos and and my insulin prescriber to fill out the forms you spoke about in your video. My physical is in two weeks, just curious, as an insulin dependent driver, will there be any restrictions on what I can and cant do and endorsements I can get? Curious about interstate vs intrastate and passenger. Thanks for your time in making these videos, I have learned a lot and its nice to know what to expect going into this process.

I disclosed mixed anxiety/depression and told the doctor it's no longer an issue nor do I take medication for it and haven't for a year. The doctor still listed that I needed monitoring... Is that a reason to get a 3 month DOT certification? How can I get it removed?

you can take the certificate anywhere. It is a federal form

You can contact the appropriate agency and explain this but I don't think that anything can be done other than come back and renew it

You should not be drug tested. You will be tested for sugar in urine

Thanks for the kind words Brad. If your medical examiner accepts the form then you wouldn’t have any special restrictions simply based in being IDD

Drug testing is not part of the DOT physical. CDL drivers must be drug tested before starting work however.

It is how long the driver is medically certified. It is based on many factors but the longest it can be is 2 years from the date of the exam
