#1 dont forget to take medications, especially blood pressure ones
#2 dont drink caffeine before coming in
#3 dont be overly hydrated or dehydrated
#4 avoid beets, blackberries, carrots, or any food that could discolor your pee
#5 dont use the bathroom before coming into the examination room
I once drank 6 beers and then got my dot physical. Had amazing blood pressure and certified for another 2 years.

@@D-NICE33 If it's been more than 30 days you should be fine. To be sure though buy a weed test kit and test yourself at home if it comes negative you should be good.

I'm confused on the not eating beets. In one of your videos you recommend drinking beet root juice about 6 hours before your physical? Would this not cause the discoloration of your urine sample?
Beet juice lowers blood pressure. He doesn’t want you to have an advantage. He wants to see your real BP without anything benefiting you.
Good info… how about if you suffered from White coat syndrome and your numbers still high? Can you show a letter from your doctor showing Bp is in under control just my numbers spike up at the dot office
Mine is normal to high normal when I check it at home. It’s always high at the doctors office. White Coat Syndrome is real.

Yeah man take it before. Idk where you live, but I live in Texas and they turned me away yesterday when I went to take my permit test because I didn't have my med. Card

Glad you are feeling better. There are no minimum requirements for neurlogical disorders. If the doctor thinks it is safe for you to drive based on your history, reflexes, strength, etc. you should pass. If not he/she could send you for a skill performance evaluation where an expert would asses whether you can perform the duties needed to drive safely. Hope this helps.

It's better to get the physical first so when you go to the DMV they can add you as Certified and you don't have to go back another time just to add the Med CERT.
Is taking "over the counter" medication a disqualification the day before testing? For instance ibuprofen

@@EasyDOTPhysicals Thanks. I drink about 2 gallons per day. But that is all I drink. No soda, beer, liquor and only one cup of coffee or tea in the morning.

You have a video saying to drink beet juice because it lowers your blood pressure.
Someone made the comment about the color change in urine and you responded that the color change wouldn't matter because many foods change the urines color therefore it's no problem.
I'm just wondering why this video contradicts advice you've already given us?

is this exam best when you wake up or go to bed? I work third I sleep from 8a-1630 we are usually a little dehydrated when we wake up. I'm usually ready for bed in the am, and I usually drink water throughout the night
In my opinion, it is best to take the exam a few hours after a restful nights sleep. Absolutely make sure you are hydrated before the exam however.

AHA keeps lowering the BP guidelines as you know. In the 1990's it was 140/90 then lowered it to 130/80 and just in the last few years BP requirements have been lowered to 120/80.
Does not seem fair to keep lowering this as the older folks get the more BP goes up. seems a way to weed out older people. By old i mean 40-50 years old. First, do you agree with the lowering of standards? Also, can a hernia cause you to fail the exam? You do a great public service trying to help drivers.
First, thank you 😊. My feeling is that anything under 140/90 is ok. A hernia would cause you to fail if the doctor doing the exam felt like you would not be able to perform the job of a commercial driver.

So if you have sleep apnea can you still be a CDL driver will this disqualify you during the physical for CDL driver

You could lie and say you don't have it . They don't request medical records from your doctor. I wouldn't do this because if you aren't taking good care of your condition and crash they may throw you in prison. This job has a lot of liability
Sleep Apnea is a requirement!
What if I’m naturally a nervous person and my blood pressure comes up high ? I don’t have a medical history I’m healthy.
the doctor doing your exam will likely take your blood pressure a few times until it comes down. I would even let you lie down for a little bit. At the end of the day however, you will need to fall within the stated levels

I usually do the urine test last
Every office is different. Some do the urine 1st then physical and others do it the other way around.
I thought there isn't a pee test during physical??

I wouldn't drink it 24 hours before the exam unless you are using it for a medical reason (blood pressure). You can try again if you fail the exam.
What if I was prescribed meds but no longer take them because I don’t need them anymore, will I still need to get a note from the doctor that wrote the prescription? Because I don’t go to that doctor anymore
We would not have you get a note if you are not currently taking it

As long as you have a note from your Dr. saying it is safe to drive while taking it you should be just fine.

Its a NO they do not check for any drugs in the DOT physical, your job will require that NOT you going in for a year or 2 year recertification.

I just got diagnosed with type 2 and it’s really hard to find decent info for me as a driver. There is a lot of stuff about type 1 but that’s not what I need.
As for the going to the bathroom before, I don’t know how your office runs but a lot of times the places I have been take a very long time to get you checked in and called back to give your samples. Had one office call me back an hour after my appointment time to do the physical exam and then go wait in the waiting room for them to call me back to give a urinalysis sample. It took them 3 hours… I had to go do a partial bathroom break just to not pee my pants. it was crazy. I’ve never gone back to that place again.

For DOT physical they don't check for weed. If employer orders drug test,, Then they do.
