It's not enough to have a Commercial Drivers License. For safety reasons, you must have a document showing that you are physically fit to operate a Commercial motor vehicle.

First off you're welcome!!! To answer your question - all of the standards are nationwide. There are some minor state differences if you are not driving between states but they do not deal with the urinalysis.

Hi Dr. Nuesse, I have tachycardia and had an ablation in July. They have me on Bisoprolol to help slow my heart rate. I'm retiring from public school teaching in June and plan on getting my CDL. I asked my cardiologist if this will prevent me from getting my CDL, and he wasn't sure. What do you say? I have no issues other than my stamina isn't that good while exercising (due to the Bisoprolol). My BP is normal with the med.
this will not necessarily be a disqualification but you must bring documentation from your cardiologist that your condition is stable and that he feels it is safe for you to drive.

The standard states that even if on medication you need to be seizure free for 8 years in a row. You may need to get a federal exemption after you have your DOT physical performed. This will depend on the rest of your evaluation
This will depend on the Dr. doing your physical. It never hurts to get a letter from you primary Dr. stating that it is safe for you to drive on all your meds and bring it in to your DOT physical.

I’m visually impaired in terms of 20/200 one eye then 20/25 in the other eye (with glasses). In Florida I heard I can apply for a vision exemption package or a vision waiver. Do I have to apply for those first or get my physical first? Thank you. 🙏

You should get the doctor that gave you the prescription to write a letter saying that it is safe for you to drive. Take that with you when you have your physical performed.

If you have perfect hearing in one ear you would be able to pass the hearing portion of the test.
If you have high blood pressure just take a half of a viagria before you leave home

We certify drivers directly for interstate but your situation may be different

If you wear glasses of any kind during the vision test they will put a restriction on your test meaning you have to wear glasses when driving.

1 urine sample can be used for both the drug test and the DOT physical urinalysis if they are coordinated to be done at the same time

You will most likely not be able to drive after the expiration. You can as soon as you get your physical renewed however.

that is certainly what we do. Unfortunately sometimes the driver has other appointments to attend to or they need to get back to work.

If one eye is bad but with both eyes i see perfect will i pass
you will need to have at least 20/40 vision when corrected in the bad eye.
