I could listen to James talking all day about bike fitting and products he loves-his passion for cycling just shines through-as it does with Francis, Jimmy, Emily and the rest of the gang……keep it up people, we love it.
just got a bike fit at their store, great experience and after i changed to a narrower handle bar, shoes with insoles, i can genuinly feel the difference, feeling much more cofident and capable of putting out more power in a comfortable way, reconmmand their bike fit if you got a chance. really professional and pleasuable
James is 100% right. I normally ride 150 mm wide saddle. I tried a 143 mm wide saddle recently, and what a difference! I never in a million years would have considered that my saddle was too wide.
I recently did the same. Went from a 155mm width WTB saddle to a 143mm Ergon and the comparatively tiny Ergon is a lot more comfortable. The model I chose (SL enduro Comp) also has the long pressure relief channel like the Selle Italia that was shown in this video.
How does Sella SMP compare with Sella SLR? I tried an SMP saddle for a while and eventually developed terrible ongoing pain in the perineum due occasionally not getting into the centre cut out straight away more like sitting on the edge of the cut out. I've vowed never to use saddles with cut outs again and have recovered after going back to a traditional saddle. I never feel 100% comfortable though, always end mostly sitting on my RHS butt cheek
@Anthony Jones One source I would suggest for feedback is Amazon shopping for the Selle SLR saddle. There was at least 1 review that called out both Selle saddles and why the SLR was a better fit for at least 1 rider. Also, you may consider posting a product question that may draw out response from users of both. Cheers.
After experiencing the Selle SLR Supertflow, I purchased another. This wasn't love at first sit, but after several weeks this is by far my favorite saddle. Comfort, distance, profile!
Couldn’t agree more with regards to the Q factor getting narrower and narrower I’m now riding spacers to compensate no more outter foot pain and I can feel my arch supports
I bought the G8 insoles after seeing an old one of your bike fit vids with James they are fantastic, takes a little while to experiment and find the correct arch size but so easy to clip in and out and once you know it is set and forget
Thank you James and Francis...I bought Tailfin immediately after seeing you talk about em in Viet Nam ! Truly , and you're right about shoes being hugely important . Thank you for all of these videos , as I need all the help I can get ! OAF here .
Seriously Fairlight Cycles with their steel frames and FULL steel frames are so sick. I'm happy that steel still gets the love it deserves and it's not as harsh on the environment like carbon fiber stuff.
Really enjoyed the emphasis he put on environmentalism, durability and ethics (e.g. plastic-free shimano packaging, vegan option for the shoes) thanks guys !
I own the Lake 332’s and the 238’s and they're THE BEST shoes EVER, the former are raceyer whereas the latter are more all day all round comfort but either way fantastic!
I just got me a pair of Lake CX 332's (the all white version, so no kangaroo leather) and I must say they're the most comfortable cycling shoes I ever had. I used to have "hot feet" when riding more than 100k and even though it hasn't completely disapeared, the "hot feet" problem occurs way later than it used to. What's more, those shoes look incredible in all white !
James' energy is amazing to watch. I've changed bikefitter thanks to his advice and the results were astounding. Great job on churning out so much content; must be a lot of work but it's very much appreciated. Keep the James stuff coming!
I have 3 washers on my right pedal to get it more out, came with my Assioma's with the aim being to ensure the pedal has sufficient clearance to function properly, in the end turned out to be a godsend. Just removing one, much less two, washers and something would immediately feel off.
Hi James. Thanks for the videos, it's really troubling the number of cyclist how are having a terrible time on there bikes because no time or effort was put into bike fit. This a weakness the bike industry as a whole needs to address. Two products that I have had positive results with are the Terry Liberator saddles, and Shimano bar end shifters. Terry was the first person to make a serous women's saddle, was the company that invented the relief channel, and brought improved comfort (for the first time) to many women. I think she was the first one to address problem of women not wanting to ride on badly fitting men's bikes. I see allot of products based on her work. I have also had good results with bar end shifters. STI shifters were built around men's hands, and people with smaller hands, mostly women, have difficult reaching from from the hoods to the levers. Bar ends work with hands of all sizes, and help short armed ridders with reach. As they are installed 5 inches closer to the ridder, reach is no longer a problem. They are also a well made product. As we say "food for thought. I would love to hear your ideas on these issues. Take care. Tom
Nice to hear how my experience in riding and selling bikes matches the presenter's, especially considering frame sizes. Love Deda bars on my road bikes. Only disagree about the cut-out saddle. The theory of the cut-out is "where there is nothing, it cannot create pressure". My experience is "where there is nothing, there is something around that nothing that causes even more pressure". I need a solid, flat area for weight distribution. When you look at most cut-out saddles along the edge from behind, you see quite sharp edges around the hole. That's why saddles are highly individual, you might need to test a few before you "saddle" for one😉.
Had a bike fit only 2 days ago and I can’t recommend enough! I’ve had a bike for before but nowhere near as helpful and this one actually fixed my issues
Glad to see James back on the channel. Regarding the saddle - tried it...but no-go for me, surprisingly. Best saddle for me (on all my 3 bikes) is the cursed Power Arc (not Power!) in the 143mm. Got back to it after tryin' the Selle mentioned in this video, Ergon SR Pro and the 3D printed Fizik... Just sayin' for the record that there is an actual living human being who is totally comfortable on the "S" saddle (though Power Arc only). None of my bikes is Specialized. Keep up the great videos on this channel! Tomas
Selle Italia SLR boost is something I have on all my road bikes. I have the gravel version on my gravel bike. Cannot substitute this saddle for anything else. Also Hello from USA! 👋👋
I was looking to build some insoles for my shoes as I am pushing with my outer part of the feet when pedaling. Just ordered the G8s from James' shop. To bad he is not delivering in Romania but I asked someone from UK to order and when they come back I'll get em. Ordering a saddle soon as well since I was already looking for a new one, so kudos on the recommendation
I have found that for walking and running, barefoot shoes have made a hugely positive difference to my life. I am therefore dubious about the need for custom innersoles. I realise that cycling places different forces on your body than walking and running, but I'm not convinced that adding more support to my feet whilst riding will be a benefit to me. Tell me why please, James.
well, i am with you on the walking in barefoot shoes and the positive impacts on posture etc. what is, imho, the difference is that during cycling you have a very reduce stimulation / loading of the foot. basically you're stepping on the same spot with a similar force all the time. this creates nerve and bloodflow issues. when walking or running you're not putting your foot through this, there is constantly changing stimulation, even on a treatmill. Thats my take on it. but i am sure james will have a better explanation ^^
Hey Dudes, good to see James Back. I would be really interested in fit in relation to power output. As soon as I leave zone two and do over 250watt all my problems with discomfort go away. I'm a heavy rider at around 95 kg.
As someone with an extra wide foot I can tell you that it's not just bike shops that tell you to go up a size, some manufacturers suggest doing that too.
Has James considered opening up a bike fit studio up there in Newcastle? he could utilise the space you have Francis, I'm sure he would do very well with a secondary outlet, just a thought.
What might be a negative side of the Brannock device is that it assumes "wide" feet are wide all the way across the length from toe to heel, where most people only need the width in the toes and ball of foot. The muscles from the toes span the length of the foot, strengthening the arch and reaching up the leg (more muscles to work out, lol) - restricting the width across the toes for long periods of time over the course of months and years can create different problems with the feet such as atrophy of some of those muscles in the arch, hallux, etc. It's a shame there are no cycling shoes to accommodate this without going fully custom, maybe sometime in the future 😅
I bought that saddle based on this video. Very comfortable but creaks like hell, internet seems to suggest it’s very common. Lubing the rails (where it enters the saddle) not working. Shame because it was a lovely saddle
i bought a superflow slr on James' recommendation and it's so good. I even bought the 145 first but swapped it for the 130. Coming from a brooks cambium c15 its actually so much more comfortable.
Absolutely brilliant explanation of your choices. I have never gotten a bike fit, and will be booking one very soon, so I'll be looking out for your pointers when it happens. Thank you.
The dead handlebars I accidentally bought them when building a road bike and my god they are great because they are just great shape fairly light for the cost and the drops gradual
Always a sensible opinion. This time... aluminum bars. Agreed. My opinion is why faff around with carbon bars. Why??? Get the aluminum bars and fuggedaboutit. Bang on with no worries about breakage.
I’d love to get a fit by him because most companies in the USA all do the things you say bike fitters shouldn’t do! And I’m always having knee pain, lower back pain, always seem to be shrugging my shoulders along with all the weight in my hands
I’ve bought G8 insole after previous videos but never find the right “configuration”. Maybe an how to video could help many of us that don’t have the opportunity to visit James’s shop! Thanks
Don’t worry about the lake kangaroo leather . (Vegans) we have way to many here in Australia. They get culled, farmed, killed on highways by the 1000s every day. And numbers aren’t harmed .
Tried that saddle and the cutout murdered my squishy bits. Loved the width, loved the shape. If you know a similar saddle with no cutout please do let me know
I tried the SLR in a fit and the cut out edges just dig in inside my thighs like sharp knives. My preferred position is to ride with hips rolled forward, hence why "sit at the back" saddles never worked. Fitter suggested the PRO stealth which does not feel as supportive riding more upright, but allowed me to roll the hips forward without any pressure. And no cut out digging in either
From my point of view I have to disagree with the pressure mapping. So I tried now several saddles (also with pressure mapping) and was nonetheless not able to find the perfect one yet. In my experience a pressure map is surely an indicator if a saddle might work for you (or not), but at the end only time will tell if you feel comfortable longterm perspectively.
I wonder if James has tried out the coefficient handlebar. I know it’s pricey and resultantly probably not the best choice for us consumers, but would love to know his thoughts on it.
So what about a shoe for “duck feet”? I have a narrow heel and long, flat toes. Current shoes are old Sidi Dominators with custom footbeds & cork bottoms on the footbeds to take up a bit more space. It’s an OK fit with thicker socks, but feels loose with a summer weight cycling sock unless the straps are cranked down too tight for comfort. Sidi at the time made a narrow version, but my toes were too long / wide for them. Every shoe I’ve tried I end up with a bulge of fabric on the top of the shoe - Shimano, specialized, Garneau, Fizik… Haven’t had a chance to try DMT, Giro, or Bont yet.
I love the g8 insoles after my fit but one thing ive found is they creak alot is this normal ? I thought was my bottom bracket till i got off bike and the creak followed me walking 😂😂
What's the logic in preferring a shorter bar over a shorter stem? The hoods end up in the same place, and it is usually far easier to swap a stem to tweak reach/height versus unwrapping and redoing the bars? Maybe I'm missing something but I keep running into lore around stem length messing with handling, while the same folks brush off shorter reach bars as somehow not having the exact same effect on handling.

I have CX332s, SLR Boost, G8 Footbeds, and Shimano long axle pedals. Transformed my riding, thanks James ;-)
The legend is back. Glad yo see James make an appearance. His advice has helped me greatly 👍🇮🇪
@Cade Media You should let James show how to adjust the G8s depending on the footarch, would love to see that.
I have a Fairlight Secan. I can confirm this their customer service is extremly helpful and knowledgeable helping you to find the right fit.
Same here! 2.5 in plum colour. It is my do-it-all-bike nowadays! From gravel to brevets to pure road riding.
@@_MPP_ I have it in orange 🍊

Nice. This is not old footage copied from the other channel, this is James in your new studio. Very cool.
After experiencing the Selle SLR Supertflow, I purchased another. This wasn't love at first sit, but after several weeks this is by far my favorite saddle. Comfort, distance, profile!
Thanks for the heads up on Fairlight. Looks like they might have what I’m after as a do it all bike.

James really convinced me with his videos when he said stuff about the SLR boost saddle. Indeed i got one and loved it. So, thanks!
I bought the G8 insoles after seeing an old one of your bike fit vids with James they are fantastic, takes a little while to experiment and find the correct arch size but so easy to clip in and out and once you know it is set and forget
Definitely didn't know Shimano made extended axle pedals! Love the bike fitter/mechanic opinion videos!
Look cleats have been in boxes for as long as I can remember. Great vid though guys. Keep this info coming
TIME - still have the 📦

Great to see THE MAN 👍 up here at Cade Media HQ in the Toon 👍. Another top info video gents. Cheers for doing 👏
Nice to see James on the channel again! Bring back bike fit Tuesday!
I like this... not least for the upfront chat about where the commercial relationships lie. Good work
need more James! Take him on a trip again. Please! Hes your most entertaining riding partner
Seriously Fairlight Cycles with their steel frames and FULL steel frames are so sick. I'm happy that steel still gets the love it deserves and it's not as harsh on the environment like carbon fiber stuff.

Welcome back James! Fairlight Secan 51T ✔Insoles ✔ Aspirational: Tailfin, Lake CX 332, Selle Italia Boost SLR, Bike Fit by Bike Fit James
I bought Lake direct from the co for MTB and they fit like a glove.huge upgrade from my shimanos.
Always love seeing James outside of his shop. That typically means shenanigans are afoot, or at least a copious amount of foul language.
Finally the Fairlight shoutout, they make gorgeous bikes been looking into one for ages now. If I only had infinite money...😢
Really enjoyed the emphasis he put on environmentalism, durability and ethics (e.g. plastic-free shimano packaging, vegan option for the shoes) thanks guys !
James - looking good, my man! T-shirt looks great and the watch game is 🔥 Thank you!!
Fantastic video and great to see James @ Cade Media HQ. Lake shoes look mint, as need some new ones soon, and yeah I need a Boost SLR in my life 👌

I LOVE vids with James!
Sir. James is back! Love watching this episode ❤🎉😊...
I bought G8 insoles on James’s recommendation from another video. Aside from them squeaking in my shoes, they’re amazing. Totally worth the price.
I have 3 washers on my right pedal to get it more out, came with my Assioma's with the aim being to ensure the pedal has sufficient clearance to function properly, in the end turned out to be a godsend. Just removing one, much less two, washers and something would immediately feel off.

Huge fan of Lake shoes, searched a long time for a wide enough shoe, and the Lake cx201 fits me perfectly!
Those shoes are 400 dollaridoos my dudes

Fairlight looks great. Finally bikes for people with long legs.
Ayyyy- this new camera look is giving 😝☺️
Deda rhm 01s ❤ had the 36s on everything, used to be £12.50 on wiggle
James is the only bikefitter on youtube who makes sense to me. The other folks give advice that doesn’t sound good to me. James is fantastic.
Glad to see James back on the channel.

James 🥰😎we’ve missed you man

I got Deda bars based on James recommendation in previous videos and am very happy with them!
Request Mr James wears a black shirt next time so we can see him 😀

one of the very reasons pros avoid bike fit issues!
Yeees broh!!! Fairlight Faran rider here. Best Bike I ever owend.
We love James. He's hard core but knowledgeable and entertaining

Ah, wise words from BFJ, also I'm sitting here in my new Orange Wild T-shirt 😎🟠👍
i bought a superflow slr on James' recommendation and it's so good.
Thank you.
James coming in with facts, great video
The 3T SUPERERGO bar is the most comfortable bar ever, 77mm reach, 119 drop.
A wild James spotted in "The North"?!
As always a cracking video and super useful
Great video lads, keep up the good work!
Yeah! Bike Fit James!
Love my Fairlight Strael 3.0 👍.
11:09 Gorgeous bike mate!
Loves his Lakes does James. Might be hard to get hold of now with Moore Large in administration.
Not really because I buy them direct
And numbers aren’t harmed .
just ordered the saddle and the footbeds
I've missed James !!
Great vid! James is there anybody you know of in Australia who subscribes to your philosophy on bike fitting?
Tried that saddle and the cutout murdered my squishy bits. Loved the width, loved the shape. If you know a similar saddle with no cutout please do let me know
Interesting, it should be the other way around tho? I ride with Shimano's short nose saddle and it was almost a revelation lol
Every time I use a cutout I get irritation INSIDE the cutout. Many people like a cutout, but it doesn't work for all of us
I use a Tailfin on my commuter. Losing the backpack was the best thing to happen.
Missed James’ gravely voice. Wish I’d known he was up, I’d have taken him out for a beer ☺️
I wonder if James has tried out the coefficient handlebar. I know it’s pricey and resultantly probably not the best choice for us consumers, but would love to know his thoughts on it.
Got both a Fairlight Secan and Strael in size 61T, which means no stack of spacers.
More James!!
I love the g8 insoles after my fit but one thing ive found is they creak alot is this normal ? I thought was my bottom bracket till i got off bike and the creak followed me walking 😂😂
It’s probably your hip joint….
I’m all about comfy shoes-my 20 year old Sidis are still my favorites-but is there a comparable budget-friendly shoe…~$200-250 US?
He apparently also loves his new beard trimmer.
the tailfin thing is amazing but dam there expensive! would love to get one but not in this economy
What is the other Lake shoe that was alluded to?
