This is a very troubled family. There is much more to this 12 y/o girl's story that may come out later. Her stepfather, Levi Lyda, who says he felt like the 12 y/o was his own, tortured a family kitten to death because he felt it was a "burden on the family". He claims he was drunk. Drunk or not, you know when you're causing an animal pain. There are other options to removing a pet from the household besides torturing it to death. And I agree that the mother is in serious denial about her children.

Well, I just found this article “REVEALED: Stepfather of 12-year-old girl who stabbed her nine-year-old brother to death was arrested in 2017 for torturing a CAT to death - and was so violent in jail he gave his cellmate brain injuries” and it turns out her step father is extremely violent. To me, it’s the mother’s fault for allowing her children to grow up around crap like this. He literally not only killed but TORTURED this little girls CAT. Then caused extensive brain damage to another inmate when he was arrested for the animal cruelty. I no longer feel sorry for the mother.

A lot of medications have some sort of side effect like those. It’s hard when they’re given to children because they’re still developing. Hormones play a big role as well. Obviously something happened with this girl since she supposedly wasn’t on the med anymore. There had to be signs of behaviors before this. There is no way that she was super sweet to her bother and then just killed him for no reason. It doesn’t happen like that.s

My older brother is bipolar, and it went undiagnosed for 40 years. My childhood was filled with him torturing me. My parents didn't know how bad it was. They wrote it off as normal sibling rivalry. I thought it was normal, too, because I was unaware of any other reality. I still believe there were times he would have killed me if I didn't escape. There is still a scar on my right hand from blocking a knife attack.
I spent a lot of time locked in the backroom, holding the door shut while standing on the counter. I had to stand on the counter because he would stick things (like a knife taped to the end of a broom handle) under the door to get at my feet. I couldn't sit on the counter because I needed to apply pressure on the door without being too close to the crack of the door. He would sometimes stab knives through the crack. I'd be in that position for hours, ready for his sneak attacks, until one of our parents came home.

This might be one of the worst things that I have ever seen. I'm at a real loss. I cannot fathom any of this. I heard a story once where a grandfather was visiting his daughter and her family in Missouri. When he was backing up his car to leave after that visit, he was unaware that his young grandson was standing behind the car. The little boy was run over and killed. I remember hearing about that and feeling so sorry for the grandfather, grandmother, mother, father and other grandchildren. I cannot even fathom that type of mental pain and anguish. However, I think that this case tops even that.
The little girl doesn't come across as needing medication. She is lucid, intelligent and sorry for what she did. The question is obvious: Why? Why did this little girl stab her brother three times? It makes no sense.

This Dr is spot on with her opinions on this. I have an immediate family member/relative that at 12-13 yers old was diagnosed with bipolar, depression, anxiety, and a host of other mental issues. She comes from a good family, that went above and beyond everything they could possibly do to help her, including admitting her into psychiatric hospitals. She is also a "cutter". She says the reason she is always cutting herself is because she gets uncontrollably angry very easily, to the point she wants to cut the person, but instead of cutting them, she will cut herself. Both her arms look like road maps from all the cutting. She is now of legal age and refuses to take her medications. Very sad situation for this 12 year old girl. Do I think she is capable of doing something like this again, sadly, I do.

Babysitting your mother’s children when you are a child yourself is extraordinarily stressful and unfair. This child had so much working against her, but that doesn’t make stabbing your brother to death totally understandable and acceptable. The mother knew her daughter was not capable of taking on the role of adult. She knew it and did it anyway. Why? I suspect the man in the house was the real monster.

Her phone bill came to his house so he made sure she wasn’t home and simply stuck it in the door crack. Then she told everyone he tracked her down. I'm not sure what is going on in her home, but I'm sure that having yet another half-sibling with the current boyfriend didn't help the situation, especially when the parents cannot afford reliable, adult child care. This killer needs to pay a consequence, maybe doing time in the juvenile system until she turns 21, then a long term probation, to make a 20 year sentence. She will probably get more help in an institutional setting, more than a foster home. She is too dangerous to have around other children at this time.

My one daughter has ADHD, they prescribed her Ritalin back in 1994 when she was only 4 years old. It gave her such bad nightmares, night tremors, changed her personality completely so bad she was just a shell of herself. I decided to find other ways to cope with the disorder and her without chemicals involved. We used horse therapy, art, lincoln logs, legos, games, any and everything to divert the impulsive behavior and let her have an outlet. It was hard. It was super hard. Today she is a beautiful 33 year old who still thanks me every now and then for not making her take that medicine anymore. She's still impulsive, but she knows how to handle the impulses on her own and recognizes the behavioral symptoms. I hate to hear that about your daughter but to offer another perspective I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and took Ritalin for many years when I was young. I never had any of those super negative side affects like what you are describing. Every person is different and can react to medications differently. I stopped taking them around age 17/18. Was unmedicated for a long time but started taking a low dose of stimulant meds (vyvanse) again about a year and a half ago. These medications can be extremely helpful and for those of us who really have a hard time functioning “normally” they make a big difference. The benefits just have to outweigh the risks. Sometimes they don’t 🤷🏻‍♀️ again not everyone is the same.
I wanted to add that my daughter started taking a SSRI when she was only 9 for severe obsessive compulsive disorder. Some parents my judge me but you don’t know my child. The meds changed her life 100% for the better. She is 15 now and is still doing well on them. She was not functioning before she was put on them. It was totally devastating as a parent and the meds gave me my child back. I’m speaking to other commenters when I say please don’t be so quick to judge parents who put their child on medications. Especially when you don’t know the full story. It’s not ideal but neither is a child who can barely function. ✌🏻

I would have left the door open for the police to search especially if I had no clue why my daughter done it 🤷🏽‍♀️

I'm sorry, she killed her brother, medicine or no medicine. Trying to blame the medication made her do this is ridiculous. She came out of the apartment apologizing right off the bat, means she knew what she had done. She is responsible, and needs to be punished. And I agree with the Doctor, she was either mad at her brother for some reason, or using drugs. Because why was the Mom so hesitant about the police going into here home with a search warrant.

She apologized to police because she knew it was wrong and she was in trouble and scared! It's horrific that the brother lost his life. There has to be more to this.
