I stumbled on to this release technique while working on keeping my head behind the strike zone. This gave me the feeling of extending the strike beyond the ball. I was amazed at the distance (only 5 or so yards, but still a gain) and the accuracy. Height was excellent as well. Then the rains came and I haven't been able to practice this anymore. Excellent lesson. This advice, coupled with the proper weight shift taught in your lesson on the catapult method, really puts it all together very nicely. Thank you.
I just started watching your videos, its very simple to understand . Do you have any videos on how to stop standiing up on the down swing? I have a tendency to do that alot.
hi there I have a question my driving off the tee is ok and my chipping onto the green is great and I feel stiff with a follow through how do I correct that
We need to get to a place where we have no swing thoughts, why? So we can just swing away, but that does cause pain, and bad shots, which are a part of the process. Great video my friend!
Alex, have just recently found your videos and am hoping I can learn how to swing the club instead of using it to hit at the ball. What areas of my body should be leading my efforts to turn through the shot instead of hitting the ball and seeing my momentum quickly deplete. Thanks!
Turn your back to the target and swing down to the ball with your arms. Learned that 50 years ago. The video shows him swinging down with his arms. Don’t worry, your body will respond. Don’t overthink this.
I know I’m missing something here, but how else would you swing your arms? And I keep reading that you should swing through the ball, not at it. Perhaps the poster meant the arms should come straight down and the turning of the body will place them in the proper place.
100%. Just had a lesson with my club's pro and he basically taught exactly what you and AOSG said. His corrections for me were "loosy goosy" with the hands at the top of the backswing to create a whip effect and turn the forearms over as I come down. That's it. I was particularly amazed at he second one because, as you said, once I started doing it my body followed through every time. So much less to think about, I love it.
Great video Alex. It’s the exact thing me and my coach are working on at the min. I was trying do just as you say in the video about trying steer the club through the swing. Where now my only thought is swooshing the club through impact. And now I’m hitting lovely draws. Great content mate keep up the great work
@The Art of Simple Golf Hiya, do you have a video that focuses on the transition in the backswing? Namely how far back to take the club and what is the trigger(s) points? I have a tendency to take clubs too far back. Especially long irons up to driver. I do try to slow down my backswing on these longer clubs. However, I'm just not quite able to get dialed in a point in the backswing to get to a consistent transition point. I suppose this has a lot to do with 'feel'. Though I'm hoping to find something consistent to rely on to initiate the downswing without taking the club too far back.

Is grip pressure not an issue for preventing a full release? Imo, grip pressure is 1 of the least stressed parts of the swing by teaching pros that can have a major detrimental effect on the swing. But, I'm not a teaching pro.
I’ve played like this for a few years. And when you do this and your on . Your really on . But when your off.. your really off . You can hit it all over the place when your slightly off doing this
I've done this drill and like the feeling. But, always have trouble taking it to a full shot. What happens next? Is it just allowing a wrist cock? Any suggestions?
Most amateurs can't take a drill to a shot because the ball is there challenging their focus on what they're trying to accomplish. The ball has the potential to ruin a great swing. That's why the practice swing is so much better than the shot swing. There's no pressure to affect the mind & the swing means nothing. I'm willing to bet that the ball is the main factor in most bad shot swings. The natural thought is to hit the ball rather than swing thru. That's why they say that golf is 90% mental. Focus is the only cure.
@@mikerodrick2430 I am with you there. I had a driving range session where I focused on dropping my hands and creating lag and didn't focus a ton on where I was hitting the ball, although I did use alignment sticks to setup. As I went through the bucket and focused on that feeling, I noticed that most of my strikes were more pure than before where I was having a tough time with heel strikes. I played really well in my next round (except for my driver) as I kept that feeling in mind. However a week later my old tendencies came back during play (no range session between) and I was all over the face again. To me it's partly about trusting a new swing change and partly about creating a "new normal" that doesn't feel forced.
How do I prevent too much force in my forearms? Everytime I do this kind of drills I tend to really have too much pressure in my forearms which lead to injuries in my elbows…
For me the feeling in unwinding is… Shoulders pull arms Arms pull hands Hands pull grip If you turn all the way with back to target with soft hands then the club will release naturally. Again, we’re each different but for me the ah ha moment was the pulling sensation.
