I know it's not practical for a off road build, but I would love to see a body work episode of Zack pulling out and fixing the BMW's dents to the best of his abilities.
I mean, I fixed the dents in my 99 Ram 1500 that's marked out for offroading bc it bugged me to have all the dents, its something of a monthly ritual lol
Quite a common occurrence if you live where it snows for more than a month. Especially on those suspension bolts. Pro tip: use some copper anti-seize or threadlocker when re-assembling to stop rust in the threads. Either one works.
Jobe: Uses the jack to loosen the bolt that is behind the hub. Me: “ohhhh... so I’ve just been an idiot with broken knuckles for the last several years.”
One of the first tricks I learned In the army and soooo glad (lucky) that I did. I thought It was common knowledge. It was just because everything we work on is big.
I never thought I'd get back into cars ever since my failed project that just discouraged me after failing to complete it (sold it...) But after watching this channel I have realized a reborn attraction that has come to fruition. Thank you.
Here's a tip that might help. Measure the stock shocks at ride height and then measure your coil overs. Adjust your coilovers to be longer than the stock shocks
Just want to say i've now binged the entirety of moneypit in a under a week, all by my self.. until this episode where my dad sat down a minute before Zach decided to show how caked up he is..
17:45 That's a hell yes from me too. I can't even remember how my stock suspension feels I've had mine on for so long now. She already cornered like a beast because its a 2 seater. Now I can pull a G easy tearing ass around turns even tight ones. And as a "bonus" theres one spot in the freeway close to me that I get the tiniest bit of air on when I go over it over 80. Yes our road around here are shit
Now if they would actually take this to a shop that knows what they are doing while adjusting the coils for rally. Zach just adjusted the length, but damping + preload would be nice to see.
Using the car jack to push the wrench when the bolt was rusted was genius level stuff. I have done my brakes so many times and end up using breaker bars and extenders and have never thought of that. Thanks for showing it!
Two things. 1) I had coil overs on my E36, and they quite frankly sucked. One day after working on it, I forgot to reconnect the front sway bay, and from then on it was amazing. Very neutral handling, but with on demand oversteer that was very smooth, predictable, and very easily controlled. 2) In the factory tool kit on the inside of the boot lid there should be an alluminium bar that's threaded on one end, and knurlled on the other. That's a wheel locator to make fitting and removing the wheel bolts easy. Just remove the upper most bolt, and replace it with the bar, then remove the others. The bar will hold the wheel in place till you want to remove it. Fitting the wheels is just the reverse, and with the wheels being hubcentric, all your bolt holes will automatically line up.
I’m aware your still a young man but to save your hands you should put 1 bolt half way back in and then hit the inside of the tire with a rubber mallet if the wheel is stuck. More force and saves your palms. Apply a wire bush and nickel paste to the hub to make wheel removal easier in the future. Great channel and keep it up!
you gotta have big bucks for it. like, really big bucks. My mothet had a friend in college who came from a really rich family and started rallying. until he got to pro level he maybe spent a couple hundred thousands of euros
Hey Jobe! Glad you guys installed rear reinforcement plates. Recommend you consider front plates also. The front shock towers “mushroomed” on one of my E36’s due to running coilovers with no plates. Garagistic makes a nice set. Just a recommendation! Keep up the great content!
Having spent the last two years dailying a fullsize pickup with 35" mud tires I have to say that I now want ground clearance and big tires on everything. Not necessarily full offroad setup. But it is soooo incredibly nice being able to hop a curb to get out of a crowded drive-thru or run over the shoulder to get off a stopped highway to the frontage road. I can't tell you how many times I did something in my pickup that saved me aggravation and that was only possible because I could get over some minor obstacle. Call it "urban offroading" or "auto parkour", whatever. I'm convinced that a serious street car should have a minimum of 8-10 inches of ground clearance and enough travel to climb curbs or handle rough rail crossing with ease.
I don't really know my way around a car and have no intention of ever doing anything more than change a light bulb or add wiper fluid. But I just love listening to Zach walk me through how to tear a car apart and then put it back together again.
You should measure from the centre of the hub to the lip of the guard. Much more accurate and can be used later on as a point of reference and won't be effected by things like tyre wear or even a tyre size change.
“Fit one finger in the rear” “fit 3 fingers in the front” “I’m going to use this big strong thing I have” “it feels firm yet subtle” Mix these quotes with Zack hiking his pants up to heaven just gave this video some much needed sexual tension
I was just about to say, as a “Euro” myself, that tires falling off during mounting/dismounting is almost never the case - and especially not when you want it.
@@Snablarns Happens to all cars. 2 of my japanese cars had this problem. First was because of corrosion from washing the wheels. Second was a new used car I bought. I had a shop take it off for me first time since I needed to get a free rotation anyways. The second time it happened, I had to roll one of the wheels loosened lugs for a few times. Then I figured out once you have a little wiggle room, you can rock it back and forth and it comes loose easily
Now it looks like any other Argentinian car! (due to the damaged road, most argentinian cars have raised suspension compared to the same car sold in another country)
When removing the rear springs in an E36, always be sure you don't have the hand brake engaged. The tight cable will limit rear suspension travel, making it more difficult to remove the springs. Also a good way to stretch out the cable, since rear suspension ends up hanging on to the cable.
