      @rostifardian 3 года назад +12

      Those E36 i6's have a "fan delete mod" where you put in a cooler thermostat, and WaterWetter for more efficient cooling. If you don't live in an area where you have bumper to bumper traffic, and can always have decent airflow through the radiator, you can lose the fan entirely. Pretty common in E36 forums

    • @PhantomPhaze
      @PhantomPhaze 3 года назад +17

      Nah, unless you're making pisspoor hp the loss is negligible and you get way more airflow from a single clutch fan with a shroud than even a dual efan setup. Also a clutch fan is way less likely to fail and cause overheating. the only real advantage of going to electric fans is space

    Don't forget to mention that when you swap a clutch fan for a Electric fan you get more horsepower! Also if you redo an entire cooling system on a vehicle that you are going to be pushing hard, swap the ethylene glycol based coolant for a propylene glycol based coolant after a very thorough flush. It cools better and is easier to clean up in case of leaks.

    7:50 put a piece of hose on a funnel so you can catch the fluid at the source or as close as you can get and have it drain to a bucket. tight spaces usually allow you to wedge the funnel in and walk away while it drains without it spraying all over

    Can we do a video comparing the different types of catch cans? In most cases you want the catch can to route back into the intake (for the negative pressure). But there are cans that use a breather straight to the atmosphere. As well as cans that route back to the intake and ALSO have a breather to the atmosphere at the same time (which doesn't make much sense).

    • @NaotheKitsune
      @NaotheKitsune 3 года назад +1

      I did that, had an inline breather going back to the intake, cause me to throw IAC codes, but no performance change, took the breather out and no codes sense

    • @NightPwnGaming
      @NightPwnGaming 3 года назад

      @@NaotheKitsune My thought is that once you throw a breather onto the system before the intake, you've negated the negative pressure. Might as well just vent the PCV to atmosphere at that point. But would be curious on Donut's take.

      The e36 'PCV' hose pumps oil vapor into the intake... remove the throttle body and look at all the puddles of oil on the bottom of the intake manifold. They may cause a 'DANGER TO MANIFOLD WELDS' message on your laptop. I have a small filter on the end of the shortened PCV hose ventin' to atmos because blowby air don't burn.

    • @s.willis8426
      @s.willis8426 3 года назад

      I don't think the negative pressure is the goal. If I understand it correctly these are just emissions systems rerouting partially combusted material back into the combustion chamber. The main concept of a catch can is to allow any oil that may blow through to not be able to just follow a tube back into the manifold. By having the tube enter a container (catch can) at the top and then having an exit on the other side at the top with a gap in the middle of the line, any oil that flows through the entrance will collect in the can instead of going back into the manifold.
      You can also eliminate the rerouting back to the manifold as long as you aren't blocking the PCV off entirely which would causes gasses to build up and find their own way out which is bad (pretty sure Zach did that on the Miata then added catch cans).

    Remember to always do some research on your specific vehicle and application before doing an electric fan conversion. Many cars love it with no issues or an improvement in cooling. But many do not and will often run hotter than before or even overheat completely without the factory engine fan and shroud. Well designed engine driven fans are often significantly more powerful than even the best electric fan setups, and while in some cars this is a waste of horsepower and engine response, in others it’s the only solution to keep the engine cool.

    There’s still a few plastic flanges and joiners to go before it’s all metal. Some you can bypass others you have to live with. I just finished a full overhaul of my e36’s cooling system. Every hose every joiner, I ended up bypassing my cars heater core as the 3 joiners that vent thru to the cabin are plastic joiners and become brittle over time. Wonder if you guys will come across this seeing the state of some of your other plastics. Also I’ve heard mixed things about the mishimoto radiators, some people love them some people say the quality just isn’t there. The stock radiator would probably have been okay with a bigger fan, they have a bleed screw too so all you need is a flat head and a few hours of free time to properly bleed your system. Love the videos guys 👌🏼
