In this video:
A popular chocolate cup filled with delicious peanut butter, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were created by a man named Harry Burnett (H.B.) Reese. Reese was born May 24, 1879 in Pennsylvania to a farming family. He married in 1900 and went on to have sixteen children. (Yes, 16!) By 1903, not surprisingly, he was struggling to support his growing family, so took on all manner of jobs from butcher to factory worker.

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are the best invention EVER!
It's more of a peanut mash cup, but ok.
I used to live a stone's throw away from the Reeses factory in Hershey PA. The smell of chocolate and peanut butter every Tuesday and Thursday was heavenly.
Thanks for the brief synopsis of my great grandfather’s legacy ! There is so much more to the history of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, but you definitely hit all the highlights ! Thanks !
I call bullshit. That would make you a millionaire.
No it wouldn’t ! The Reese brothers sold Reese’s to Hershey Foods in 1963 (the year I was born) The 5 brothers got Hershey’s stocks which have been passed down to future generations and some of it got sold. My grandfather John M Reese was president of Reese’s and passed his inheritance to his 3 children and my father passed it on to his 3 children. So you see how the money has been split many times. Remember, H. B. Reese had 16 children and spread his wealth amongst them. I really don’t care if you believe me or not, I know the truth and I’m very proud of my Reese family heritage !
Wow! Well I've got to say you family has created a major addiction for me 😁. Can't get enough of them at times, lol.
@@deathmagnetic12085 I call BULSHIT on your comment. My great-grandfather (Mother's side) invented the method used today where railroad rails are attached using bolts, rather than spikes. (Not as "simple" as it sounds and he got a patent on it). I got $0.00 from this legacy. My OTHER great grandfather (father's side) patented an improvement to the "skip hoist" used in steel production. It was used for decades (perhaps still?) I got $0.00 from this legacy.
@@PCLVHPNS4U I'm with you: I repeat my comment to that jagoff that denied your story: My great-grandfather (Mother's side) invented the method used today where railroad rails are attached using bolts, rather than spikes. (Not as "simple" as it sounds and he got a patent on it). I got $0.00 from this legacy. My OTHER great grandfather (father's side) patented an improvement to the "skip hoist" used in steel production. It was used for decades (perhaps still?) I got $0.00 from this legacy. Oh, and thank your great grandfather. I'm a HUSE Reese's fan! 👍😊👍 P.S. By the industries involved, you might be able to tell that I'm also from Pennsylvania! (Pittsburgh).
Wait!? so it wasn't 2 teens in 80's strollin' down the street eating chocolate and peanut butter who clumsily walked into each other!?
this was a bit of info that I could live without because my world view is shattered!
You got chocolate in my peanut butter!
oh but sir, that's not chocolate...
Heemin Gamin Station I thought it was a car crash then officer Reeses came killed them and stole the idea
I was thinking of making that reference but I figured to go with the more well known commercial instead.
OpTic GrimSex I can't believe family guy would lie...
Great video! Reeses cups used to be my favorite growing up. Still a fun treat now and again.
So basically, had this guy's pull out game been better, we might not have Reese's
ZTO ~ and I hate to give the Catholic Church credit, but we can probably also blame them, if I’m guessing. I suppose birth control didn’t really exist back then, but people have always had methods they used, and, of course, Catholics aren’t allowed to use those methods.
@@Starlight_Silver I don't understand. What is the connection between religious opposition to birth control and the creation of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups?
I love Reese’s Cups so much that this story made me cry, LOL.
Admit it! Peanut Butter Cups are addictive!
Thank you Mr. Reese for creating my favourite chocolate ☺️
It's a shame they are not available world wide. They are truly delicious.
I've always wondered why the US version had 2 cups per pack when up here in Canada we got 3 cups... the king size seems to be 4 for both of us though.
"He got peanut butter in my chocolate."
"He got chocolate in my peanut butter."
I heard about these in a movie (I think it was dream catcher?) but never tasted them until about 10 years later when they finally started exporting to Australia. Now I love them.
Always been my favorite, nice to hear Reese's family are probably pretty well off I might add!
Fun fact: The first cup candy produced in the US was the Mallo Cup by The Boyer Candy Company who is still in business today.
Mmmm those are very good.
I love me some Mallo Cups
Also, It should be noted that THAT too is a Pennsylvania "Thing" (Altoona).
I really do love your videos. The approach, the delivery, succinct or a little longer, as the subject matter dictates, and always providing a decent amount of information and obvious research that, to be frank, seems lacking from some other popular video channels that just shovel out videos.
What is more, on more controversial subjects, you guys never play favorite to a side, you simple lay out whatever facts are relevant, which is amazing.
I really enjoy your channel, and find the huge variety of things you cover very interesting! Always look forward to new content from you!
great am already startin to feel hungry again thanks simon
Beyond a doubt, mankind's greatest invention, the combination of chocolate and peanut butter.
Damn. I shouldn't have watched this. Now I'm craving them.
Ditto. The grocery store opens in an hour. And both chocolate and peanut butter give me migraines. Sigh.
Fascinating stuff.
Try eating them frozen
Or melt them into hot chocolate (or prolly coffee, as well; I've never tried it). =^[.]^=
ramkitty Why the fuck would anybody try that.
'Cause its good
It probably would be good...here in Florida we often keep them in the fridge because they melt rather easily, and they're great cold, so the freezer isn't much of a stretch.
They are good frozen
These are my favorite.
I just got these fresh from the factory from Hershey's' online site and they were phenomenal!!
You missed one thing, the actual invention of the peanut butter cup...you only told the history of the inventor, company and family.
True
David Frederick He tried dipping everything in his cupboard in chocolate. Most of it sucked, but the peanut butter didn't suck.
He actually started making the cups when a distributor asked for his assistance. The company was having trouble receiving a popular chocolate/peanutbutter candy on time as the creator of the confection did not have the supplies to meet demand. Reese was asked if he could whip up the confection and supply the distributor. He agreed and so went the story. The candy had already existed, but the opportunity, not yet discovered.
Well I mean to say, the idea of mixing peanutbutter and chocolate had existed, but not in cup form.
Your channel is SUPER addictive to watch...like Reese's are to eat.
My favorites till now!
Super interesting. Favorite candy of all time
Peanut butter cups are by far my favorite dessert... Next to vanilla ice cream topped with the stuff. Have a preemptive thumbs-up for this video!
Reese's definitely one of my favorites.
I didn't know there was such a thing as an expected heart attack.
humicroav ~ actually, I would say that Mr. Reese probably had the most expected heart attack in history simply because of the sheer quantity of chocolate and peanut butter he must have eaten. 😄
Heather L. Right!? Lol I was thinking the same, and back then I doubt anyone cared about working out or being healthy in there youth so even more so lol
humicroav he said unexpectedly
What a legend!
I heard the Princess Bride when he said, "Reese's Peanut... Buttahcahps."
I like the shorter style. keep it up
not to mention the brilliant stand out packaging. just a brief look at the wrapper and you immediately know how it's going to taste.
I LOVE REESES PEANUT BUTTER CUPS!!!!!
I did not know the story behind these. I love peanut butter cups. Well, 2nd to dark chocolate. Great video. Thanks.
thanks for the yumminess
I'm French and I've never heard about Reese's until I started watching Ricky Berwick's videos. This guy is obsessed with Reese's.
I love the peanut butter cups!
I'd like to see a video about why some plastics can be recycled while others can't. More specifically, why those of us in America are supposed to throw plastic bottle caps away and recycle the bottle.
CarlinRules thermoplastics can be melted/remolded where as thermo setting plastics can't be, because of this, only Thermo plastics can be recycled I think! Might not be 100% correct but I hope it helps you out
Hold up... Chocolate covered dates? That sounds awesome. I gotta find some.
I think it's cool Hersey never tried to stop him, steal the idea from him, or get a cut
Reeses are better than sex!
When you bite into a Reese’s peanut butter cup, it’s incredible! You get that soft peanut butter taste and then a bit of chocolate 🍫 on the side. It’s delicious! 👏🏻😎
Thanks Reeses!
When I was young I saw a commercial for Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Two people walking towards each other not paying attention to their surrounding (today's standard it's the cell phone). One eating peanut butter and the other a bar of chocolate. They crashed into each other and that famous word which I still remembered was said "You got peanut butter on my chocolate". The other said "You got chocolate on my peanut butter". Hence the birth of the peanut butter cup. Of course being young and naive, I got a bar of Hershey chocolate and a peanut butter and made my own while watching Bugs Bunny. Of course I tried the real one and never stop loving it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOU, YOU MAKE A DAY OF MINE, SO AMAZING. THANK YOU.
Thanks, guys!
I've loved those peanut butter cups since I was a child.
I eat Reese's Peanut Butter Cups today for a snack at work before I saw this video. What a coincidence!
Now I want a peanut butter cup.
Yum.
OMG I love Reese's Cups... they are the best.
So how did Hershey's feel about the competition especially when the competition was in fact working for them initially?
Milton Hershey and H B Reese were always friends and H B wouldn’t have been successfull without Milton. Hershey bought Reese’s in 1963 mostly because the 5 Reese brothers who ran the factory had squabbles and then Hershey’s continued to manufacture Reese’s keeping it the success it still is today ! I’m sure Hershey’s felt great when they were able to purchase their competitor !
Wait back up...Reese wasn't a police officer? who found a car accident with people getting peanut butter on someone's chocolate? Family guy lies to me
We all know this... a police officer crashed into a peanut butter truck while eating a chocolate bar. The truck lost its load and the officer checked to see if the driver was ok. He dipped his chocolate in the peanut butter and discovered the wonderful combo and the rest is history
H.G.Reese..you are my hero.
I wanted to learn about the unique taste of the chocolate used in Recess Peanut Butter Cups. It's not just regular Hershey's chocolate. It has this unique taste that I love.
Best. Candy. Ever.
This is especially cool because I used to work at Hershey Park!
hey guys from today i found out can you make an video of the S thing most of us drew in school?
(love the videos
I experimented with those cups to see if they stored well under the right conditions and so far, they are edible three years after placing a carton of them under a vacuum and storing them at 62 F. The ones not under a vacuum went bad after a year. The chocolate bloomed and the peanut butter hardened and went rancid.
I make homemade ones all the time. Everyone loves them.
I don't. There is no way in hell you can get your peanut butter to have that Reeses dried flaky goodness.
Mmmmm eating one of the HUGE peanut butter cups now.
Thumbs up just for activating my taste buds! 😉
My favorite candy!
They're my favorite candy of all time alo I've been to chocolate world...THAT PLACE IS AMAZING!!!
The only problem with them is that I always want more.
I got reeses puffs in my bowl
I never had these, how is the filling in these cups? By looking at pictures I'm getting a feeling the filling is very dry, but I could be wrong, anyone care to describe it?
how do they get the caramel in the caramilk bar
I F'n love peanut butter cups
Now here's a video I can really...sink my teeth into.
(I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, please, I'm so so sorry...)
The smaller sized ones are still better. than the normal sized ones. I think it's the PB : Chocolate ratio.
the real sweet here is owning 5% of Hersheys, holy crap sign me up!
You ever just watch wholesome memes and start thinking about Reese's and then search it up
This is my crack.
Does anyone know for definite if they are vegetarian? Ive looked on a few sites but nobody can seem to decide on an answer for certain. If anyone has any links that would be great ;D
I like the shorter ones
Can you do Hershey vs. Cadbury UK? I already know the story behind it. I'd like other people to know.
Milius. Genghis Khan. 2017 all American chocolate sucks! the British know how to do it rite. (Make it out of chocolate not questionable chemicals and preservatives)
His kids are geniuses😂
When you stay up so late you end up just watching the origin of a chocolate
best chocolate ever
I love them.i want one now.calling uber.
Always was and still is my favorite sweet. Especially Reese's Pieces
I remember as a kid I wanted a roomful of Reese’s haha
my favorite candy of all time
I always keeps mine in the freezer 😋😋
Hey Simon, why do candies like Reese's taste different if they are shaped like an egg or bunny?
Damn I want a reeses cup right now... Oh wait, I live in central Europe. SHIT.
This is my fav chocolate
I already found out where it originated from family guy, Officer Reese's.
REESE'S PUFFS REESE'S PUFFS
EAT 'EM UP EAT 'EM UP EAT 'EM UP
I'm lactose intollerent and I have IBS so ive never had a Reese peanut butter cup even though I really want to because before I became LI and got IBS chocolate and peanut butter were 2 of my fave foods.
PLEASE try doing a video on American accent. I heard that Britan deliberately changed their accent to sound more dignified, and that, the British once sounded similar to a South southern American accent. I would be mezmorized by your diligent fact checking and your superior delivery. as you always do so well.
My favorite candy (the his week)!
I think the word "confectioneries" sounds so much fancier than candy
How is a seventy seven year old man dying of heart problems unexpected?
1 penny a cup...WOW
Now you have to do Kit Kat.
!!!!MY KINGDOM FOR A KIT KAT!!!!
HB was my great grandpa. Not all of the Reese family is wealthy. In fact, I’m broke as a joke.
Sad but it's cool that you were related to him I don't know any relatives or people I descended from that were very rich/successful But then again I haven't taken a ancestry dna test so there's still that possibility even though I heavily doubt it.
I love them! but only buy big cups because regular size are too little
