i'm not christian or anything, but honestly i find that super impressive that they managed to place a bible in nearly every hotel room
I once met a member of the Gideon when I took a walk with my dog. I accidentally threw the ball for my dog too high and it got stuck in a tree. He helped me to get it out of the tree and gave me a bible afterwards. He said he always has a couple of them in his pocket for moments like this.
l hope you don't find d it offensive that your comment made me laugh out loud. just the way l take things literally, "l keep Bible on hand for moments like this" meaning l have to help people get dog's toys out of trees. just out of curiosity, what did you do with the Bible he gave you?
Bücherdrache pulls out backpack, would you like a bible
Me: how even
One time I let one stay at my house. The next day, there was a Bible in the crack of the couch, in my bathtub, in my cereal box, in my underwear drawer, in my dog, on my ceiling fan, clogging the toilet, taped to my back, and in my milk carton.
Cool
Religious marketing 101
As a child I was so confused by the random bibles in the hotel rooms I stayed in with the mysterious "placed by the gideons" message engraved on them. I fantasized that were some kind of christian ninjas who would jump through the window, place the bible, then stealthily flip back out the window.
I have it on good authority that that is exactly how they are placed there. ;)
Love the Gideons. They always show up handing out small Bibles in neat travel size when I needed one 😊 Got one at uni that was helpful for my studies. When I just could not find anymore, I luckily met a Gideon member giving me another one. Very kind and good people!
What a great cause. They aren't forcing people to read it, but they are graciously donating for anyone who wants or needs to read the Word.
Buzzcut if you are in a hotel you can afford a bible. So you should bring your own.
So the Gideon's and like groups for like he said things as Mormons and Muslims really do WANT you to take the book? Like if I'm staying at a hotel and i see like the book of Mormon or the orthodox bible i can just take it with me to read?
I think, if you want to take a copy, you could ask the rececptionist? I don't fully know if all hotels and motels permit it or if it varies.
A valuable service indeed.
The Gideons want people to take the Bibles. They also hand them out outside of high schools and universities. They don't open air preach like you'd expect, they just hand them out, you can take it or leave it. When I was in high school, I saw them twice after school. They're very polite and respectful to people who don't want a copy. It's honestly a great ministry.
Here I was thinking it was a quick and convenient tool for processing and protection from a surprise demon
Well, I mean, it is. Lol
So this explains why hotel guests are often screaming "ohh god, ohh god" while staying in the room, they are just reading the bible out loud.
wow i didn't know my mom and the mailman likes to read the bible out louad together when my dads not home
This needs more likes
Perfect. Thanks 🙏
Haha yes I don’t believe they read the bible. No one does. It’s actually a known fact that if your in a hotel your a sinner. For you have your own walls but yet your not within in them. Like jail it’s not within your walls. Those who travel and prefer to be surrounded by walls of the unknown are sinners. Who actually feels loved by the walls you worked hard for? People take love for granted, and their surroundings, who needs walls? Gods not gonna pay for your wall! Your blood sweat, tears, are gonna pay for the walls you call home.
Lmao!
"They got to talking, and discovered they were both Christians."
Well, fuck me sideways, 2 Christians in one room in the 19th century in the US? You don't say.
Turns out, it wasn't much easier in the 19th century than today to find true and honest Christians. But you're right, there were countless more of the "I go to church, but don't really care"-type.
well most adults today realize christianity is a cult and should be shunned
Erato IsYourMuse No, no, no. True practicing Christians. Those, while not uncommon, are hard to come by. Most Americans are nominal christians. Going to church maybe 3 times a year
its a shared hotel rooms , some hotels do rent the beds not the room so you find strangers with you in the same room. but it takes a filthy minded person like you to think in the wrong way.
I know. It's like two British people talking today and, surprise, they're both Muslims.
I have read the Bible several times while in hotels. Thank you so much. Also, my husband still has his camouflage Bible from when he was stationed in Iraq. A comfort from scary times.
So... we will have a small library in every hotel room soon?
No, every hotel will have a library building to cover all the gods, religions, religious history and texts.
Yes please.
Yes, but it only contains medicore fantasy novels.
Personally I would prefer some sort of SF-Robot-God, who promises Salvation (terminator4) and eternal life as Cyborg.
I doubt that. A couple of years ago a muslim organization in Germany gave away free copies of the qu'ran at info-tables in inner-cities. That was heavily critized as "religious propaganda" and politicians sought means to put a stop to it (they didn't find any though).
And I bet: As soon as a muslim, or hindu or whatever equivalent of the gideon society pops up, the gideon bible will become so large, the rooms won't be able to accomodate further books...

More like a lot of backup if you run out of toilet paper...
Okay, disclaimer: I am an Evangelical Christian, a hotel desk clerk, and know of at least one member of the Gideons attending my church. My experience is that people do read the Gideon bibles in the rooms, and they do quite often take them with them. I have specifically had complaints at the front desk when a room does not contain a Bible. I have had Hispanic guests ask if we have Bibles in Spanish.
I have had customers thank me for the Bibles and ask if they can keep one. I always tell them yes. I remember one elderly lady who stayed with us for about 3 months read through the entire Bible during her stay.
I see the work of the Gideons as a way of quietly fulfilling Christ's command to "Go into all the world and proclaim the good news" in a way that isn't argumentative. No one is forced to pick up and read. Just like on RUclips where I often read comments of "If you don't like something, don't watch." If you don't want to read, simply don't. Or do; as it is written, "Taste and see that the Lord is good." (Psalm 34:8)

I used to travel a lot and since I reckoned that people with deep problems, or who were troubled, would take the time to open the hotel Bible, I would leave $5 in the middle of the Bible in the area of Psalms 23. I haven't traveled for many years, but I think I will do that again when I travel again.

Do a "Today I found out" on why people post comments saying First, second etc.
I can tell you why. It's because they think they are the first person or second person posting a comment. They get excited that they're first, and/or hope that they'll get a bunch of likes and recognition for being first.
Kelly, it's quite a sad life though if you ask me.
not really there is always people out there who care....people like you.
Eh I wouldn't say sad. It's not as if all of those people are just sitting there refreshing the page and hoping they'll find a video to be first on. I mean, maaaybe that happens in some cases, but usually I think people just get a notification and rush on over. I've been the first viewer on a bigger channel's video once, and it was a kind of cool feeling.
There's already videos of it from other channels.

A couple of years before my mom passed away, she was staying in a motel and picked up the Bible to read. She mistakenly took it with her when she left. When she realized this, she called the Gideons on the phone. They told her that she had made their day because that was the whole purpose for distributing the Bibles. They want people who need them to take them.
Peace. ✝️
She was probably out of toilet paper; Dip those things in water and god all-shitty provideth you with lots of it.

That's what the inmates use for rolling papers in the prison I work at. The pocket bibles are just the perfect size (or so I hear).
That is awesome!
there are books/ "relic of human history " older if not twice as old as the Bible
Why are there Bibels inside Hotel rooms ? - To protect you from Vampires ;)

It obviously works. I've never heard of anyone being attacked by a vampire in a hotel room!
I thought we were supposed to smoke the pages. oops...

The Gideons International is a great ministry. I've found their Bibles in a few motel rooms. And, upon staying in a motel room without one, I made sure to leave one of my own Gideon Bibles there. My prayer is that it will reach someone who isn't saved and that they'd read it and come to salvation. For those who don't know, there is always brief Gospel message in the back. At least read the back page or two. There is also a few pages in the front with verses pertaining to various needs. Whether you are feeling anxious, angry, bitter, or concerned about something else, there are likely a few verses listed there to help you. If you aren't already a Christian, feel free to check it out with an open mind. You've got nothing to loose and everything to gain. If you're a Christian already, read it for growth. It never hearts to read a bit more of God's Word.
In 2016 I stayed in a motel in West Virginia with a Hindu manager. The room had a Gideon Bible and a copy of the Bhagavad Gita.
Even though I wouldn't mind reading the Bible but that Hindu holy book would have most likely made for quite interesting read assuming it was in english of course.Just a little interest tib bit of information is the reason why the Hindu god Ghanesh is depicted as having the head of an Elephant is because when Ghanesh was a young boy his father who was the Hindu god of destruction Shiva in a fit of rage cut off Ghanesh head and in order for Ghanesh to be brought back to life the gods had to replace Ghaneshs head with the head of an elephant.

Cam it depends on what it is
It's actually sharp edges that cause the arcs, not the metal itself. Something like that.
you can xD where did you hear you cant ?
If you go to the SciShow RUclips channel they have done an excellent video on that.
I imagine a lot of people might look at a Gideon Bible just out of curiosity's sake. I should note that in this day and age, not only can you find entertainment pretty much anywhere, but if you want a Bible - you can find that pretty much everywhere as well, as there are plenty of both websites and apps for it.
I was the hotel housekeeping head and I enjoyed the few times the Gideons came in. They come in about every six months to make sure we've got plenty on hand. Oddly enough, I've never had to replace a Bible in my almost 2 years of housekeeping
I like to hid them in the room somewhere
I am so glad I found your channel, Simon. I work at McDonalds, so when I found your video on the filet-o-fish and how it ended up on the menu, I was rather intrigued! I certainly look forward to watching more of your videos!!!

What a great idea. Spreading your message to those willing to listen instead of driving a truck through crowded markets.
I feel like your synopsis of Gideon's story doesn't really do it justice.
Gideon didn't just lead a tiny army against a massive one; he followed God's orders and *made his army smaller* because God thought it was too big and it wouldn't be obvious He was the one who won the battle. They originally had, I believe, 32,000 men (against 100,000) and God told Gideon to tell anyone who was afraid to go home. Then they ended up with about 10,000 i think and God told him to take them to a river and see how they drink from it, the people who put down their weapons and cupped the water in their hands were sent away while the ones that drank like a dog so they wouldn't let their guard down were kept. He ended up with 300 people against 100,000. That night God had Gideon give each man a pot, a torch, and a horn and told them to spread out and surround the camp. When everybody was in place they broke their pots, lit their torches, and blew their horns with a battle cry. The enemy thought they were being attacked by a massive army and started killing each other thinking they were the enemy. Gideon and his army just picked off the ones that were left.
It's one of my favorite stories in the Bible because of how ridiculous it is. First he tells most of his army to go home, then he fired the ones who don't drink right and then he makes enemy think they're killing each other. XD
3:50 One problem though. If there are only 2,190 days in 6 years, how can each bible have 2,300 readers during the same period? Assuming 25% of the people actually read the bible, and the room is occupied every night with a different guest, we'd be looking at somewhere around 550 readers. Or around 25 years to reach 2,300 readers.
Food for thought.
Most rooms are double rooms. Pretty sure most bible go unread by most guests though, certainly here in Europe.
Hey hey it's religion. Logic doesn't apply here.
I feel like Today I found outs math was wrong here
Not to mention if someone stays in a hotel room for more than a normal night which isn't uncommon
Not our math, Gideon's. :-) I'm personal skeptical of their read rate figures. :-)

Last summer when my family went to Shetland there was actually a mini bible in a mini bible holder in our little ferry cabin.
I always liked seeing The Gideons outside school on the last day before summer vacation. They would always give out those little orange New testaments. Still have one in my glove box!
I don't know if you are a Christian or not, Simon, and it's not anyone's business but your own, but I like the way you are always respectful of Christian beliefs in all of your videos. Interesting video! Happy Easter to you and yours!
Gallagher Rutledge Judging by his other videos I highly doubt he is. I also like how he's respectful of others' beliefs in his videos.
I would feel as if it would discredit their validity to "favor" or bash one group over another, especially because religion is typically something that drives strong emotion in those that believe.
Not Your Everyday Timelord There's never any backlash when channels similar to his subtly refer to religion as things like "science fiction". So I think it's not entirely to preserve his reputation and rather he legitimately wishes to respect people's beliefs. That's something I really like about his channel. He allows his beliefs to influence his content without attempting to discredit what others believe (unless i'm missing any videos where he does, which i think is unlikely).
well he does believe in evolution, but there are some Christians hat believe in evolution also, I'm not one of them but they are called "theistic evolutionists", but I doubt he is Christian because 1. he believes in an old age earth, 2. he believes in evolution, and 3.well he is from Britain....lot o atheists in Britain..........but either way, I have respect for him because unlike many other channels he does try his best to be respectful to my faith and stay neutral, Thank you Simon
Justin Sparks Not all Christians are young earth creationists that deny evolution. Also, the Church of England is a sect of Christianity, though I think Simon lives in the Czech Republic.
"The hotel room was so depressing that when I opened the drawer, the Gideons had left a noose"
Lmao wheres that from?
My dad was in the local chapter of the Gideons, they handed out Bibles all over not just at hotels, he went in several prisons, halfway homes, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, ect.
The organization is pretty good hearted, and I believe they also allow membership to people with Doctorates as well.
A hotel I stayed at in Nevada had a book of Buddhist teachings instead.
tripitakas right?
I have access to endless streams of entertainment in my pocket... Which is why I rarely leave the house.
I'm Muslim, but my mom and I read the bible when we are staying in a hotel if we find one in the drawer. It's nice to get to know other people's faiths, so even if you are not Christian, it's still a nice educational experience 😊
Thank you. I and other Christians generally try to do the same, so it is nice when more people are willing to have an open mind. Especially when not many do so (Like in recent events).
The Old Testament part is quite nice, except there are no dragons :(

I find the bible to be interesting.
I have a question, but I think it's a little too vague. How do people, when translating languages decide what words are what. For instance, how do they know if a word means terrible or horrible?
BimLau Yomashitobi You can't though, that's the thing, that's what the basis of language classes teach translating ideas and not exact phrases or words.
BimLau Yomashitobi I feel it's a combination of context and how well u know the lauguage ur translating to. for example I know English and I translate Korean but I'm not completely fluent so I tend to paraphrase. Just knowing the basics of what is say a bad word and what's not is just something you gotta learn.
That is the problem with translations, they are rarely 100% accurate. And when you get into books like the Bible, Gita, Herodotus, etc, that have been translated several times, and the original languages are dead ... it's why we wind up with scholars who follow one interpretation versus various others. This would make a very good Today I Found Out About. @todayifoundoutabout
I translate German to English and it really does come down to how well you know the other language, including idioms and slang, as well as the overall context. As in how many ways can one translate even just a simple word like "good" for instance. But I mainly stick to technical/patent translations.... not near as many "creative" decisions to make!
Translators are supposed to carefully study how both languages are used, and try to make a careful judgement about which close synonym is best used. Very few languages have exact word-for-word translations, and sometimes two seemingly very different words can be used interchangeably (and it can be helpful to compare them to better understand the meaning if you cannot read the original language.) Of course, when directly translating words, you can make a sentence almost unintelligible due to differences in grammatical structure, and so some re-arrangement is required.
When translating something very old, it is also sometimes necessary to not exactly translate certain words. With changing times and cultures, words which hold certain meanings at one time and place can seem random in modern times.
Both of these are issues that biblical translators have to deal with, which is most of the reason that there are so many versions of the Bible that differ in minor ways, such as the NIV, NKJ and ESV, to name only a few.
Great video. Thanks for sharing!!
Preach it TIFO! You are making a difference in this world for the better! Thank you for your boldness TIFO and may God bless you all, whether you believe or not!
Do a video on why easter changes dates and why Christmas doesn't
easter is set to be on a sunday after a specific cicle of a full moon, so because it favors to be specifically on sunday (the day itself not the number of the day) is imposible to give it a specific number because every year the days changes around because of the way we set the calendar.
Christmas is set to be the 25th because someone decided to make it the 25th, much like a birthday you celebrate it on a specific day(number) disregarding it can fall on sunday, monday, friday wed... etc.
The bible tell that Jesus dies on a preparation day (friday), rested in the grave on sabbath (saturday) resurrected on the first day of the week (Sunday) this is way is celebrated that day. Christmas is the other hand is not biblical in any means, there is no set day of Christ's birth so man has made a false celebration of it on the 25th.
@@abdelpizarro you forgot one HUGE reason, Jesus died one week after passover which is a feast based on the moon calender
I bet the 3 original Gideons were actually travel bible sales men... Now the most successful Bible sales men ever.
Actually, James Nicholson was a shoe salesman, and Samuel Hill was a paint salesman. They weren't selling Bibles - after debating the best way to make a difference in the world, they agreed to donate their own money to leave the Bibles for free in hotel rooms.
Apparently, the hotels of the era were rather rough places to stay: other traveling salesmen tended to play poker, get drunk, and bring prostitutes back to their rooms, and the Gideons felt that reading Bibles might be a more dignified way for men to spend their nights at hotels.
Awfully unsuccessful salesmen considering they give their product away for free.
Another mystery of my travels answered, thank you Simon
These videos are utterly fascinating!
These are not only in the US. Even the fairly atheist Nordic countries always have Bibles in their hotels.
It's still a somewhat enjoyable read. There's a lot of hilarious stuff in the old testament like instructions on how to build a house in the correct order or when not to bang chicks.

Simon, I love the bible episodes you do, I got my first single column ESV readers edition yesterday after waiting a month for delivery after watching your video on that
Good topic selection for this Easter weekend.
Fun fact: in addition to the Bible, you will regularly find copies of the Book of Mormon in any Marriott-owned hotel property, as the founder of the company was a Latter-day Saint.
+Laundry Faerie Yeah, I was wondering throughout it if Simon would mention it. 😊 And he did at 4:03!
That's true! I've stayed at a Marriott hotel in downtown San Antonio so many times &, me being a Latter-Day Saint myself, seeing a Book of Mormon in my room always made my day. Before I leave a hotel room, whether be at the Marriott or a different hotel, I would always write our church website in case anybody wants to take a look at it and see what our religion's all about (:
God help them find the truth, and the truth shall set them free. Amen
I’m a Christian and took a Book of Mormon from a hotel once. I was curious to see what it was really about and actually read through some of it. It didn’t convert me but I do respect their beliefs and believe we have a lot in common at our core.
I was very happy as well, being a fellow Latter-day saint myself, I hole the next time I findyself at such a hotel, i might get to do the same!
I know I'm late but idea:
Can we put a book shelf in every hotel room that acts as a nightstand? You could have the gideon bibles and all that jazz and you could also sell shelf space to publishing companies who maybe have extra copies of books that need to be moved, also maybe offer some local magazines about the city and it's attractions. Most people probably won't read them (I take my own books to hotels if I'm staying for more than a night) but it's a nice option. It doesn't have to be a large bookshelf either, just a small one that doubles as a nightstand.
One of my favorite Mystery Science Theater 3000 lines was from the one Master Ninja "films" they watched. They're in a hotel. "Boy that Gideon writes a good novel"

camouflage isn't a colour. It is the state of an object being the same colour as what is behind it.
I believe he was referring to camouflage as a pattern. The Gideons provide different colors of camouflage for different branches of the military.

I like when a hotel has a Bible. it seems comforting.
AJ McRobert that a book of genocide lies next to you
Unknown Gamer That is an extremely simplistic view with no effort to understand it. You think over a billion people like genocide and are brutal like that? Get off your high horse and make an effort to understand people. I do, it's not hard if you can put your pride away a bit.
AJ McRobert No I dont think that. I know many nice christians. The average german during ww2 wasnt a brutal disgusting fan of genocide either. I just pointed out that this book isnt comforting.
Unknown Gamer Sorry, I got too aggressive; you didn't do anything wrong and I got rude. I have been jumped on about my faith, church and the Bible so many times this week, it's driving me nuts. I was way too sensitive. I usually take it on the chin with a smile. For some reason, every day someone has been mean to me about it. Even my best friend for two hours was just attacking me. Anyway, I'm sorry.
But realize that we find comfort in having that faith. When we talk to God, go to church, read the Bible, we feel God. We're bettered by it. We give more, help more, etc. I know you won't believe it, but many of have seen miracles. We are aware of those parts of the Bible, but we trust that it was what sadly needed to be done for humanity to go in the best direction possible and we surrender to trusting that we don't know what is best.
There are crazies, no question. But you see a loud minority that use the Bible as a weapon in a bad way (and not condoned in the Bible). Most of us don't think the earth is 6,000 years old and that God hates gays. Unfortunately, they get on TV.
I didn't really think anything of the Bible or church a few years ago. it's not really something I can explain, to someone who hasn't experienced it, but it's something that gives massive fulfilment and fills something we didn't even know we were missing. It's not just reading a book and believing it.
Anyway, this was a huge tangent. I just wanted to say sorry lol.
But by genocide, meaning, the God itself in the Bible is genocidal. By definition genocide is "the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation."
The God in the Old Testament slaughtered Egyptians, including innocent baby boys, infected people and animals with diseases, killed crops causing famine, destroyed entire cities (including innocent civilians, not just wiping out their armies) and destroyed the entire world and all life on it in a flood, except for what impossibly little life he saved on a boat. People say Christianity is about the sanctity of human life, but God himself violates that sanctity so many times.
A few years ago I was at a hotel in South Dakota for a renaissance festival joust at which I was/am a squire. My sister, 10 years old at the time, went with that year. She was looking around in the hotel room and opened up the drawer and said that somebody forgot their Bible when they left. I informed her that there's an organization that leaves them in hotel rooms in case people want to read them. She slowly closed the drawer and said "...oh. I'm agnostic so I don't really need to read that if I don't want to." I didn't even know she was familiar with agnosticism but she proceeded to explain it to me and she nailed it. This is the same child who, at 5 or 6 years old, was explaining colliding galaxies to my younger brother who was 15 or 16 at the time (he already knew about them but he was being enthusiastic about it when she told him) so idk why I was still surprised about her knowledge of these things.
But on the subject of Bibles in hotel rooms, I'm an atheist and there are bigger things for me to worry about than a Bible in a room where I'm just gonna stay for a night or two. I bring my own reading material and the Bible is there for people who want to read it so I don't give two shits whether there's a Bible, a Qur'an, or any other religious texts because it does not affect me one way or another. I've got bigger fish to fry.
Migitri Excellent comment. You are truly the first rational atheist I have ever read online. You are a rare breed!
No, he's not. But it's *very* nice of you to pretend so.
Yealra, I don't know what your religious views are. But categorically lumping all atheists into one group based on internet people... seems like you're kinda a d-bag. But, I'm assuming your religion reinforces this willful ignorance. I'll direct you to the Bible Reloaded Series - these are atheists that rationally read the Bible. I doubt you'll watch it or even consider the rational commentary.

nam Sake From one arrogance to another. The irony is not lost.
Migitri....and what of this fish you fry? is it tasty cod? or perch? i am intrigued
As soon as I heard you say bonus fact I was about to close the window but you saved yourself.. lol.. good stuff.
Oh that's so cool I've had a Gideon's bible for a while now but never knew about this :) thanks Simon!
probably cause the rest of the world knows how to pack their own shit when traveling
There should be an association of traveling Harry Potter fans who put Harry Potter books in all the hotel rooms.
Maybe the same for Lord of the Rings xd
It'd probably be read a whole lot more.
Yeah. He has cool magic powers.
DJPelio great idea, swap one fantasy book, for a better written one. 👍
Well it is 21st century. Why no simply put a Kindle (other eBook readers also available) in every hotel room with huge library in them?
3:40 "Endless streams of entertainment in their pocket" hahaha
turned on notifications! Great video!!
Lol my mom puts the Bible and Teachings of Buddha in the hotel
Your mom's doing the right thing. At least that's a less violent religion.
give us a quick history about cannabis, please.
leek fleek n roll You grow it. You smoke it. The end.
Ryan Anthony that's rather dull, I ment something a bit more informative and entertaining.
in the late 80's, early 90's when I attended the University. A group of friends and I would see how many Gideon bibles (new testaments) we could collect on the day the Gideon s visited campus. I do remember them being GREEN. It was interesting to learn the specific colors.
I remember my grandmother had a GOLD cover, a white, and a black.
You really make everything interesting even if I had no prior interest in it thanks I know my life has turned out boring but at least I am learning stuff 😀
I can't focus. There was no "...and in the video today..." !!! :( :( :(
any religion can do that if they want tbh
Thank you for this info///
i live in UK and there is normally a bible in every hotel i visit. i always open it once and read a Psalm. More often than not it has a meaning for the day to me - i enjoy doing it in a lucky dip way - wherever the page opens. I'm not relegious but do not dismiss either as it is done by the Gideon's in a kind way 🎀
We stay in hotels a lot, and I always read take the Bible and read few pages... the first time I read it, their was a verse at the beginning and it was translated into many languages one of them is Arabic( my first language) and I was very surprised to see the word God translated to the Arabic word الله (Allah). And their are many similarities between the Quran and the Bible. I fund it very interesting to read other holy sculptures!! Respect to all religions and beliefs out their.🤗
I always enjoy talking to Muslim coworkers and friends about the similarities and differences in those religions. I was sort of surprised to find that Jesus appears in Islam, where he is regarded as an important prophet, and a lot less surprised that much of the Bible's Old Testament content has analogues in the Quran. Many Christians would be familiar with relatives of the word/title/name Allah, like El, Elah, Alaha, and Elohim.
The fellow below who claimed the Quran is "based of Holy Bible" isn't quite right - rather, the Judeo-Christian and Islamic traditions share ancestry in the traditions, laws, mythologies, religions, and faiths of the people living in the Middle East. They are certainly not identical texts and certainly do not share identical influences and histories, but Bible and the Quran in many respects certainly can be thought of as two different versions of the same basic story told by two different witnesses, and have more in common than they do in conflict.
Pietyr Ayday because the Koran is so much newer than the Bible but has so much of the same content.
But, what's the point?
Both the Bible and Koran have precedents in much older Central Asian mythology. The flood story, for example, appears in one of the most ancient known texts, the Epic of Gilgamesh, dated about 5000 years old, the creation story appears in Zoroastrian texts with origins dating to about 3500 years old, the Book of Proverbs has striking similarities to the Instruction of Amenomope dated to over 3200 years old, and the angelic rebellion and the serpent of Eden appears in the Enuma Elish dated to over 3000 years old (in comparison, the earliest known surviving Biblical texts, the Dead Sea Scrolls, are a little over 2000 years old).
You can make of that whatever you want - atheists tend to point to such things and try to say that the Bible "plagiarized" pagan mythology. But, you can also take it as a sign that the content of the Bible was not some sort of secret known only to a handful of ancient Hebrew scholars, but rather was part of a body of very influential culture well-known and well-traveled throughout the ancient world through oral tradition and the occasional ancient texts of any number of different religions and peoples long before the Essenes recorded them in the oldest known versions of the Bible, effectively codifying them for the modern Christian world over 2000 years ago (just before Mohammed and his followers, apparently independently, codified another version for the Muslim world over 1400 years ago, and just after the Great Assembly codified the Tanakh for the Jewish world over 2400 years ago, based on the Torah and other texts dating back as much as 2800 years ago): that people all over the ancient world knew subtle variations on these stories well centuries before the Jews, Christians, and Muslims recorded them in no way discounts anything in the Tanakh, Bible or the Koran, but rather tends to support both the Bible and Koran as texts with extremely ancient origins from among some of the most ancient civilizations known to archaeology, ancient origins that to this day continue to influence the philosophy, religion, art, government, science, and culture of most of the modern world.
And then, there's a question of WHICH Bible you are talking about - the earliest Christian Church - led by Jesus and His apostles, didn't have one a Bible at all, the earliest Bibles are lost to time and differ from the Catholic Bible as determined by the Council of Nicaea, which differs in turn from the Bible of the Orthodox and Coptic churches, and are quite different from the King James English translation (which is only 400 or so years old), or any of the modern English translations....
There are a half-dozen or more KNOWN ancient religions/cultures that definitely have versions of Biblical stories older than those found both the oldest Bibles and the Koran, and the Christian and Muslim written accounts we know of are relative newcomers to the scene, being thousands of years younger than most of them. But, what's the point in pointing it out? Does it really matter?
why shaking your head means yes or no?
I've even found Gideon's Bible at bed and breakfasts. Stayed at an old, 19th century manor in Illinois once and found one in my room.
Amazing story!!
Is cereal soup
No
Why is this the first comment I in my feed...
My dad took a Bible from a hotel room and religiously read the whole thing and memorized a majority of it... He did this so he could contradict and offer a rebuttal when people came to our house to speak to us about the Good Lord. They don't come anymore lol
Yes, I'm sure he had trouble understanding those passages saying it was okay for the Israelites to rape women from other tribes and own slaves. Those would convert any man to Christianity!
Xi Jinping to be fair to the Bible it doesn’t say rape is okay. Because rape as a concept to them is totally different to them then our modern understanding. That being said you would think the all moral being of the universe would explain why genocide and slavery is not in humans best interests.
@@oopsiepoopsie2898 As I recall, it says that when man and woman come together as one flesh then they are married. So basically rape means that you're now married.
Your dad was wrong, im sorry to say...
A friend gave me a bible that she took from a hotel and I felt bad because it felt like she stoled it but after watching this I feel relieved
i held my breath as I started to scroll down the comments... *relieved*
Never heard any one pronounce it as "christean"
Greatoverlordchikonmaster because he's English not muriran
magonzalez2104 👍( But I still don't understand why Simon pronounces Taco as "Tack-o"🤔)
Greatoverlordchikonmaster lol
I've heard Chrishan so I don't even care at this point.
Greatoverlordchikonmaster that's how every other English speaking person pronounces it. Americans just tend to miss the full pronunciation, like how some of you say "cray-n" instead of "cray-on"
I found a Hindu bible in a best western in Austin
That would most likely to be quite interesting to read I know the Gidoens don't really mind you stealing there bibles and I would definantly want to keep that Hindu bible but I don't know whether the Swami or the Guru who left it there would be so keen on the idea of me borrowing there book.
I always figured they were there for when you need to relax after a day on the road with a joint but you misplaced your papers...
Thanks!
I'm an atheist, but I still read the bible when I'm staying overnight at the hotel. Better than nothing I guess
Next time you do, please read John 3:12-21
you know they have wifi right?
I do, I just prefer reading something before going to bed. Using my phone makes it hard for me to fall asleep.
heygeno1951 so i should not follow a religion, but still somehow believe in jesus without evidence?
Chaan DenHoven plenty of evidence for Christ... read 'The case for Christ' by Lee Strobel, if you dare.
my father is a Gideon member he gives Bibles to hotels, rural areas, rural schools etc.
btw please people they dont force.
I seen one of your programs about Absent Seizures. It was mind opening, because I believe that I had Absent Seizure as a child from 1st grade to 6th grade ( I did flunk 5th grade twice with straight E's both times). After 6th grades, I became a solid C student. I went to college and graduated.
During my early years of school, the Absent Seizure would take place in class. During the seizures my vision would blur, and I would go into a trans like state. I could always snap out of the seizures, and they never cause accidents. I never though anyone was aware of them, until I was talking to a friend that I grew up with. He said that I had a habit of staring off into space.
My wife would comment that I would go off into Mooneyland (Mooney is my last name). I replied that if she ever went there, then she'd never come back. The Absent Seizures do not bother me. Actually they are very relaxing, I can go into deep concentration. I have used them to concentrate on problem, and I come up with an answer.
Currently I am getting a patent for one of my invention. I made the invention completely in my mind, during Absent Seizures. I would like to talk about the invention, but I do not have a patent yet.
Wow. Great video. Always curious why this was so in U.S. and some international hotels.
