Mondeleze changed the recipe of Creme eggs in 2016 from using dairy milk, to a generic chocolate to save money, no one likes the new taste.
But Mondoleze have ruined loads of brands to save money, Chocolate Orange, Toblerone Etc. all ruined.

From the UK here - Cadburys UK tastes much better than Cadburys US to me, I was surprised how much so, Cadburys US is much drier, almost powdery. I think the flavor difference is down to how the chocolate is made, US chocolates tend to use much less cocoa butter and replace it with an emulsifier called PGPR which is cheaper, they also include additives to make the chocolate more resistant to melting in warmer US climates.
There are a couple of US chocolate brands with UK counterparts, 'Dove' is known as 'Galaxy' in the UK and while the difference isn't quite so significant as Cadburys, there is still a noticeable change. One of the only US chocolates I enjoy is Nestle Crunch, they taste the exact same in both the US and the UK - so if you are US based and want a vague idea of what British people expect chocolate to taste like, a Crunch bar is your best bet.
Kind of interesting fact; In the 1800s Cadbury created a town for their employees called Bournville since George and Richard Cadbury were both Quakers and believed in treating their employees incredibly well. If you get chance, do a little research on the quaker chocolate families in the UK (Rowntree, Cadbury, Fry and Terry), there's a ton of crazy interesting corporate history there, for a long time those four families produced most of the well known candy in the UK and all four are still around today.

The problem with our food that needs any type of sugar is that our companies uses corn syrup and way too much of it. I was given a box of maple syrup cookies from Canada and holy cow did they taste different than what I expected, but a good different lol.

As an American, I can 100% confirm that the chocolate sold from European and other countries often has better flavor and richness that American chocolate lacks. I've never found Hershey's to be all that delectable, and I instead chose the European brands. When visiting the UK, I found that my favorite Cadbury product was Wispa (it is absolutely the best air infused chocolate bar on the market). When in Switzerland, you are surrounded by some of the best chocolate around. Even Germany has great chocolate with Ritter Sport and Milka (both great brands). Kinder is now more widely available in the US (although the taste seems slightly off from the ones I had in Europe but its decently close). Nutella B-ready bars are also amazing. In general, go try some international chocolate, the flavor and richness just doesn't compare to American brands for the most part.

The popular ones are Crunchie, Wispa, Twirl and Dairy Milk IMO.
I'm surprised you didn't go into the background of the Bournville factory. The Cadbury family were Quakers, and when they built their original factory in the town of Bourneville, they built houses for the workers. They famously put care into the working conditions because of their Quaker beliefs. The factory had such good conditions that it became known as "The Factory in the Garden."

I still remember my dad's dad worked in the Somerdale factory in Keynsham, Bristol back in the 70s and used to bring home Curly Wurlys for my dad. Unfortunately, the Somerdale factory closed about 7 years ago and it's now just another block of flats, so most of the heritage behind the factory is gone.

    • @peterwilliamallen1063
      @peterwilliamallen1063 3 года назад +2

Bourneville is not a town, it was a field at the time on the outskirts of Birmingham at the time and the factory was built next to the Birmingham to Bristol Main Line of the then LMS Railway Company with its own Station to originally bring staff in from Birmingham on Cheap workers tickets, it was also built next to a canal and on the Banks of the Bourne Brook small river, when the houses were built to house the workers around the Cadbury Work they built the village at the time with no shops or pubs and named it Bourne Ville, Bourne after the Bourne Brook and Ville French for Village, over the years as the City of Birmingham expanded in size so Bourneville became a district of Birmingham and still is the only district of Birmingham with no Pubs or Restaurants in it, and Cadbury Chocolate is still made in Birmingham at Bourneville.

    From the UK, some corrections:
    1. Cream eggs are not exclusive items of Easter time, you can get them pretty much year round.
    2. While they are nice, they are very, _very_ sweet, so they are probably more popular in American than here.
    3. Flakes are nice and often put on ice-creams. Imagine a really tightly folded, yet crumbly pastry... now imagine that it's chocolate. That's a Flake. If you know what a Twix is, a Twirl is just the Twix equivalent using Flakes, but the Flakes are smothered in chocolate so they are easier to manage. A Wispa is basically a large Twirl bar but even less Flaky. Think half way bettween a Flake and an Aero bar.
    4. Dairy Milk is the biggest because it can go with everything, while white chocolate is too sweet and dark chocolate is too rich. It's very easy to absentmindedly go through an entire bar of dairy milk, although of course that varies from person to person.
    5. The adverts are amusing, but not as far as funny. We Brits love our morbid humour, and we seem to have less of the helicopter mum issue that you have in America. Another awesome advert we had here was Cats with Thumbs: ruclips.net/video/on9vqL4W6Hc/видео.html

I'm American, and I do have a fondness for Hershey's. That said, I have two perspectives based on British and Swiss co-workers from my past.
The British folks didn't bring over chocolate to try, but they were surprised that the Cadbury creme eggs were only available around Easter in the U.S. They told me that the eggs were available year round in the U.K.
My one Swiss co-worker was super proud of her country's chocolates. Just to drive her point home, she bought us generic, low-budget Swiss chocolate and invited us to compare it. OMG that cheap chocolate was exquisite!
Someday I'll try a bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk. It'll probably be a more fair comparison to Hershey's than Swiss stuff. If that ever happens, expect a follow-up.

In regards to the bit about Cadbury's formula being different in the UK - I grew up eating European chocolate and when I first moved to America and started eating American chocolate, specifically Hershey's chocolate, I couldn't get over how much it tasted like literal vomit. I told this to all my American friends and none of them knew what I was talking about. A little internet research later, I found that a lot of American chocolates contain butyric acid, which is a compound also found in things like Parmesan cheese, as well as actual vomit. Anyway, ten years later and I guess I've gotten as used to it as my American friends and Hershey's just tastes like chocolate to me now. I'm curious if any American's felt anything similar when trying European chocolate for the first time. Did it maybe taste like something was missing or just off?

American chocolate --- and any other product made in America that is sweet -- tastes different than its European or Asian counterpart, because the U.S. Federal Government imposed a tariff on sugar way back in 1789, thus quadrupling the cost of sugar here in America. Meaning companies like Hershey's have to use "high fructose corn syrup" instead of real sugar when making their products, otherwise their products cost a bunch more.
Damn government can find a way to ruin *everything* there is!

    G'day from Australia!
I was watching your video on Cadbury and was surprised that it isn't very popular in the U.S. In Australia, Cadbury is for sure the dominant chocolate brand, probably followed by Mars. In addition, I found your assumption about creme eggs were popular up until easter to be quite strange. In Australia, creme eggs are popular for alot of the year, in fact, I buy one at least once a week. Anyhow, I'll stop beating around the bush, your video caused me to think about how burger king is called well... burger king everywhere in the world except for Australia. In Australia, burger king is known as Hungry Jacks. Being an Australian I didn't even realize that Burger King and Hungry Jacks were the same thing until I got my first job there and saw the burger king logo attached to some of the kitchen equipment. Anyhow, I think it could make for an interesting video if you talked about the reasoning behind the name difference, the difference of the menu's (if any) and the differences between how successful Burger King/ Hungry Jacks is in each country.
Another interesting thing is the nickname aussies have for Macdonalds. I didn't even really consider it a nickname because I use it so often. That nickname is "Macca's". It has been so widely adopted by Australians as a nickname for Macdonalds that Macdonalds have done the following things.
    1) Formally submitting the term "Macca's" for consideration in the dictionary
    2) For a week or so around Australia Day in 2013, several stores changed their signage from MacDonalds to "Macca's"
    3) They have changed many sections of their Australian webpage, switching instances where it would say MacDonalds, to instead say Macca's. They've also featured the term in a variety of promotional material. For example, they ran an advertising campaign focused around the term "Macca's Run". Just google Macca's run and you'll see the advertising campaign.
    4) The term has been trademarked by Macdonalds, go onto McDonalds Australian website and you'll see proof.
A few interesting sidenotes on the whole Maccas thing which I found in an article by a UK newspaper titled "Macdonald's rebrand to Macca's in Australia" (Didn't link because some people are paranoid of links on the internet :S)
Surveys have showed 50 percent of Australians use the nickname, Macca's is second most recognized australianism behind "footy" at number one, Australia is the only country in the world that refers to Australia as Maccas.
I can't speak for the rest of the country, but Hungry Jacks and Macca's are by far the most popular fast food outlets near where I live (Canberra). I think it's cool that Australia has kind of made these American Brands their own, even if in the case of Hungry Jacks it wasn't intentional (as you'll find out if you research the reasoning behind name switch)
Even if this isn't made into a video, keep it up. Your videos never fail to interest me.

I'd be willing to bet that the big reason why Americans prefer Hershey-style chocolate and Brits prefer Cadbury-style is familiarity. Americans grow up eating Hershey's recipes, and expect chocolate to taste something like that; when it doesn't, it tastes "wrong". Cross the Pond and change companies, same story. Humans are picky like that.

The problem with US chocolate is that they add paraffin wax or palm oil to it in order to increase the shelf life and raise the melting point. As someone born and raised in the United Kingdom, Cadbury has always had a strong presence in my life; I even remember my older brother receiving a story book from our grandfather, that was centred around the adventures of the Cadbury's Easter Bunny written back from 1998; The Tale Of The Great Bunny: The Story of The Magical Underground World Of Chocolate, and although I don't remember what the actual story was about outside of its premise, I vividly recall being fascinated over the artwork both on and within the book. I've also visited Cadbury World a few times in my life so far, read a few books about the company's history back in Primary/ Middle School and tried out loads of their products throughout all my life.
Some of their products I would personally recommend for any new-comers to the brand are Bournville (classic dark chocolate), Picnic (fruit and nut), Flake, Crunchie, the Classic Dairy Milk, Wispa & Wispa Gold, Boost, Crème Egg & Screme Egg, any of their Hot Chocolate/ Hot Cocoa and finally the Cadbury X Oreo Peanut Butter or Mint crossover bars.

My family is from the UK (I live in Canada) and my relatives bring chocolate from Scotland and England when they come visit. It is VERY different and personally I enjoy it a lot more. It's too hard to explain the difference but I think it has to do with the amount / type of sugar being used. It tends to have a less sweet taste but more full cocoa taste. In Canadian grocery stores, we sometimes have small UK sections (seeing we are still fall under the British Common wealth), and these UK Chocolate sections usually have special brands but they sometimes have the same brands but just the UK version. So for example, you can buy either version of the chocolate you might want. It's a very fond memory getting UK Chocolate instead of souvenirs. I forget some of the brands but I remember some were nearly identical versions but they just tasted a bit different. Some were brands I had never heard of. And some were similar brands but packaged totally differently as well.

I loved the here today goo tomorrow ads.
It's very clever too, advertising that it's a seasonal product to create urgency in the consumer. The goo is what differentiates them from other eggs too so it's a clever way to display that rather than just having people bite into them.
    It's novel, therefore memorable.

In the UK, most people agree that Hershey's chocolate tastes cheap like advent calendar chocolate. Also, the big ones are the Dairy Milk and the caramel-lly ones. Crunchies are the tastiest by far, it's like honeycomb covered in silky sweeter Hershey's chocolate

I'm an American. I was raised on Hershey and loved it growing up. Then I tried Cadbury. I've never been able to go back. Hershey's bars are like plastic compared to Cadbury. I've tried both Cadbury in the US and went to the Cadbury factory in Birmingham, UK. I personally can't tell the difference. Flakes are amazing though and I think my personal favorite chocolate.

Every Easter the CVS pharmacy has a ton
Of these Cadbury eggs and at my local
Dollar store too they are usually 0.99 Cent
    And they taste amazing.
I like them as much as herseys.
Both are sweet and taste pretty good.

The reason British and American chocolate’s recipes are different to one another is not because they didn’t like the taste in America, it is because America has an (incredibly stupid) law that chocolate has to have a certain melting point, therefore Hershey had to alter the original recipe.

    • @kindlin

No it's the tariff on sugar that the US government imposed a long time ago so companies in the US use high fructose corn syrup instead as its cheaper

Its probably due to climate differences, US chocolate has to stay solid in hotter states. Cadburys chocolate melts around 80f.

Australia has the same issue. There's something in the chocolate that allows it withstand the heat better compared to it's European counterparts. British Cadbury tastes the best. Tried Hershey's, 'twas horrible.

I'm American, but my mother grew up in postcolonial Zambia and loves all things British, so I grew up with Cadbury (and other English chocolates, like the Terry's Chocolate Orange). My mom sought out Dairy Milk varieties specifically (she particularly likes Fruit & Nut), especially when she could get the British formula from a British-goods store or "British" aisle at the supermarket. I find the taste of Hershey's chocolate a bit offputting, but whenever I give my friends who didn't have the weird Anglophile upbringing Cadbury chocolate, they seem to like it, and even prefer it to the stuff they grew up on.

I think i have a really good perspective here. I'm Australian. Both Hershey and Cadbury are everywhere here. I like both because im a bit of a sweet tooth. Hershey is less sweet more cocoa-ish. Cadbury is sweeter but also more creamy. The Cadbury stuff tastes more like a dairy product than Hersheys
Also feel free to message me if i can help with any Australian stuff!

I’m from Australia where Cadbury’s is big.
Having worked and lived in America the big thing I noticed was an “ off milk” taste with the Hershey’s brand.
I saw a documentary not long after about Hershey’s which said the same thing.

I come from the Philippines & most of our chocolate comes from the US as America massively influenced our country after the 2nd world war. Having moved to the UK about 8 years ago and have almost had a taste of chocolate coming from other EU countries as well, I have to say there's nothing that can beat Cadbury when it comes to milk chocolate. I have to say it's better than all the American brands I've had so far

  • @natedash11

As someone from the US who's had imported Cadbury, Kinder, and Ritter Sport chocolates, I'd say that I'm a pretty big fan of European chocolate. This isn't to say that I don't like American chocolate (100 Grands, Take Fives, and Whatchamacallits are among my favorites), but I definitely wish European chocolate (not modified to suit American standards) was more readily available here just so I'd have more choices on the rare occasion that my sweet tooth acts up.
Kinder seems to be slowly expanding (Buenos are now available in local stores; hopefully Happy Hippos will follow) and Ritter Sports can be found occasionally, but there's really no sign of Cadbury save for Easter. I think they should seriously try their luck with Double Deckers; those are dangerously addictive.

Cadbury creme eggs are my favorite candy of all time!! I love them so so much! I stock up every Easter, but they only last a week or so after the holiday... I've seen a lot more cadbury chocolate lately. It's kept with the specialty chocolate. I didn't realize it was a different recipe. I wanna try the original recipe, because I honestly don't love Hershey's chocolate that much... despite living in the US my whole life. I want to know what British chocolate is like!

I’ve tried both chocolates and much prefer Cadbury, Hershey tastes so artificial and fake. But my favourite chocolate is Australian Cadbury it’s more creamier and not as sweet - don’t get me wrong it’s still really sweet just not as sweet as the others

I find it ironic as I consider the better tasting chocolate to be more processed, cause if you ever tasted raw cocoa I am of the opinion that Hershey would be closer then Cadbury in flavor.
