Surf Simply Tutorials: Angling Your Take Off

  • Once you're starting to consistently catch unbroken waves, the next step is to surf across them. We do this (in the beginning) by angling our take off. Angle too much and you'll come off the back of the wave. Angle too little and you'll drop straight down the wave and end up back in the white water.

    Hi Lanie, from what I have been told it takes time to identify waves properly but you might be able to see one side gradually becoming larger than the other. That way you might be able to tell if it's a righty or a lefty. I'm still workin on that issue myself. Hope that helps a little.

    Can you guys do a tutorial on how to avoid pearling on steeper waves? Or did you cover this in your other videos?
    Any advice would help...
    Thanks!

    • @richblit
      @richblit 9 лет назад +3

      Sanjay Chaudhary Angled take off is one answer. If the wave is smaller than the length of your board you need to angle in order not to pearl. Sometimes you can be too far forward but that usually isn´t the problem. Also make sure your chest is high.

    If you are learning , you should stay away from a wave like that ! lol

  • @AmsterdamEats
    @AmsterdamEats 11 лет назад +1

    How does this apply when the wave doesn't break to the left or right but just evenly across the whole wave in one motion?

    • @rhidiandavies1991
      @rhidiandavies1991 6 лет назад

      In that case the wave is a close out, and you can't go down the line you want to anyway.

    • @charlesferer3956
      @charlesferer3956 6 лет назад

      Pick a better wave, or just practice dropping in, or enjoy getting thrashed. Good training. Just remember grasshopper, when you wipeout, stay away from your board.
