    Thanks to John for recording this flight for me. Here is a link to his RUclips Channel: / johnvh541
    Speaking of John, we recently recorded some awesome flights with his new Avios Albatross from Hobbyking. Look at his channel to see that and more footage in the future of that big beautiful RC Plane!
    This are my maiden flight settings for this plane:
    - Ailerons: Low Rates: 65% & 30% Expo; High Rates: 85% & 30% Expo
    - Elevator: Low Rates: 70% Expo 30%; High Rates : 90% & 30% Expo
    - Rudder: Low Rates: 70% Expo 40%; High Rates : 90% & 30% Expo
    - Flaps:
    Pos: O: -100%; 0%
    Pos: 1: -10%; 0%
    Pos: 2: -45%; 0%
    Here are my review notes for this very big Hobbyking Spitfire:
    - Big and beautiful with tons of scale detail
    - Lots of bright lights
    - Very long flight times with recommended battery
    - Scale split flaps
    - The huge motor that runs on 3300 to 4000mAh 6S power
    - Pan and tilt FPV hardware is included
    - The sliding canopy and scale door is the ultimate in scale detail
    - Ball link servo connectors
    - Hidden control surfaces for a more scale look
    Cons:
    - I had to manually break in the wheels on the landing gear on this Avios Spitfire Mk Vb Super Scale World War Two Warbird. It wasn't hard by any means, but of time & effort. It is way better to have them be a bit tight than too loose lol
    I find it truly amazing just how a foam Remote Control Airplane like this Avios Supermarine Spitfire MkV is available at this price with this many extras. I am completely blown away by this beautiful plane and cannot wait to fly it!
    This is how Hobby King describes this RC Spitfire WWII Warbird:
    "Welcome to the ultimate scale experience. The Avios Spitfire Mk5 has been built using super scale, a new modelling technique that allows for incredible detail. Featuring more artistry than the 1100mm Spitfire, the larger model has visible panel lines, exhaust, cannons, and scale split flaps with turn indicators for added realism.
    The Avios Spitfire Mk5 is the perfect Warbird for flying at your local club. Designed in collaboration with Tom Hunt, the warbird has pre-installed electronics, replaceable rudder, and navigational lights on the the tail and wings. Slide the canopy back, then lower the cockpit door to reveal the interior details, including instrument panels and gun sight. The front of the canopy also includes removable armoured glass to make room for an FPV camera.
    Made of bolt-together foam pieces, the Avios Spitfire Mk5 is easy to store and transport when travelling to the air field. The plane also has a large battery tray, ball-link controls for precision, and hidden control surfaces for a realistic look. The Avois Spitfire Mk5 comes in two different colour schemes, ETO (European) and tropical (African).
    You'll fall in love with the detail of this super scale model.
    Features:
    • Super scale details like panel lines, exhaust, cannons.
    • Scale split flaps with turn indicators
    • Designed in collaboration with Tom Hunt
    • Navigational lights on the tail or wings
    • Pre-installed electronics

    I have to use the Turnigy 4000 mah 6s 60c battery for correct c.g. placement, all the way forward. Otherwise, you need to add weight to the nose.

    • @GBLynden
      @GBLynden  5 лет назад

      That is interesting. I had my 3300 all of the way forward with no weight and it worked just fine. It probably could have had a touch more nose weight and flown better though. Did you have to carve out any foam to make it fit?

      @GBLynden  5 лет назад

      Thanks Mat! It honestly flew great. Of course landing a Spit is a bit challenging, but it behaved great after I gave it a few clicks of down trim shortly after take-off. The wheels also needed some break-in, but that is just because they're tight and will only get better with time.

    Beautiful looking plane an nice flying. Now that you have several Spitfires, would you say they have a unique flying feel or is each plane manufacturers Spits flying characteristics different. How does the flying compare to the E-flite 1.2 Spits.

    • @GBLynden
      @GBLynden  5 лет назад

      Thanks man! I haven't flown the E-flite Spit, but I am willing to bet that it is one of the easier Spits to fly. With that being said, they are one of the most difficult planes to land, so your approach needs to be on point, regardless of the specific model. I hope that helps!

    Very nice flight of that large Mk.V! I actually wanted to update you on that discussion we had a few months ago about the Seafire.
    I never ended up getting the Seafire, but just today I finally ordered the Durafly Spitfire Mk.24. It is coming next week, though I probably won't be able to fly it in the spring.
    This is my first large scale RC plane (I'm coming straight from the E-Flite UMX warbirds, such as the P-47 and P-51D), and this is my first plane on 4s. Are there any tips for a new large scale pilot? I am definitely a bit nervous but very excited about my new summer before college toy.

    • @GBLynden
      @GBLynden  5 лет назад

      I salute your bold move and thank you for your compliment about my video with this Big Beautiful Spit! Regarding your question about the plane you ordered, it will be very different from those UMX planes you normally fly. Landing is by far and away going to be the biggest challenge. In the air will be easier if you can quickly adjust to the speed you need to be flying to keep it from stalling and falling out of the sky like Bill did with his. I have a video of that one crashing and exploding on impact. He likes to fly too close to the stall speed and because of it crashes planes all of the time. Learn from Bill's mistakes and use good throttle management. When it comes to landing, your required approaches are going to be much farther out than you will probably expect. You will need to bleed off speed enough to land but keep up enough speed for a decent rollout on the narrow landing gear and not stall.

    • @njsullyalex2744
      @njsullyalex2744 5 лет назад +1

      @@GBLynden Thank you for your reply! I have seen Bill's video where he crashes his Spit Mk.24. He was flying on the edge of a stall the whole video, I will make sure to keep speed up, save for when I'm landing. Otherwise I don't think actually flying it will be the problem, I'm confident with my UMX P-51D and have no trouble with four channel, and I actually expect this to do better in light wind. The tricky part of flying this will be that the field I fly at doesn't have pavement to land on, the landing will be on baseball field dirt (though do you think it can handle landing on grass or belly land? Probably no without breaking the gear or prop with both of those). If all goes well this will make for a very exciting summer, I hope to do the first flight over my winter break later this month. I will be sure to upload the maiden on my channel.

    • @GBLynden
      @GBLynden  5 лет назад

      I am glad you found it helpful. Unfortunately, that plane is a bad choice to take-off and land on grass. Given the retracts, and exhaust on the bottom of it, that plane will not make a good belly lander. I highly recommend finding an open parking lot of development to fly off of with that plane. If you live in a densely populated area, then find a local flying field with a paved runway. It will open your world to a number of different flying options. As far as flying in the air goes, just expect everything to happen faster than it does with the UMX P-51. Once it is trimmed, it should be fun to fly and the lights are pretty awesome!

    • @njsullyalex2744
      @njsullyalex2744 5 лет назад +1

      @@GBLynden Thanks again. There is a smaller field nearby that I can take off and land from the parking lot so I'm considering that. I'll keep you updated as it goes. Thanks for the tips and quick responses!

    • @GBLynden
      @GBLynden  5 лет назад +1

      You're welcome brother! I just be sure that there is a lot of open space to setup your approaches. I am sure you know this too, but never with the wind at your tail. A plane with poor ground handling that that one needs to be landed into the wind to help produce the best possible landings. You will have fun if you stick with your fundamentals though :)
