Maybe this is how all wars should be waged 😊. Nice to see you MA. Have a Merry Christmas
I like that idea. I need to nominate you for a Nobel Prize. TFW and Merry Christmas!
I third this Idea but how would all the politicians get rich
@nicholaspowell7931 agreed. Also how would they thin the ranks of the working class. We know as a general rule their sons and daughters aren't going
You people get a hard on over your canteen don't you?
This is a boring American package). there is so little of everything in it) that you can't get enough).
and here is Russian package - take, take, take..... by the way, the package is designed for 24 hours.... breakfast. lunch and dinner
Russian MRE. Not a daily ration, but a one-time one. But you can stay on it for a day. Russian rations are usually made in different compositions so that the food does not get boring. They are usually divided into days of the week, it is this one that is in the video, it is "Thursday" according to tradition, fish dishes are eaten on Thursday, this has been taught since kindergarten. So that the food is varied, healthy and balanced. There are special state standards, violators are severely punished. They make a lot of honey in Russia. They buy from private traders, many of them start breeding bees in the village in retirement.
crazy how they have it more together nutrition wise than the US does.
@@devynyates1929 The thing is that in the USA food traditions developed thanks to huge food holdings; in the Soviet Union there were no private food production facilities; the state itself was in charge of food. Yes, there was not such abundance as now, but the diet was healthy and balanced.
@@devynyates1929Why is that crazy? Russia is not some backwards nation, and America let its oligarchs win while Putin pushed them out of windows 😂 so less poison in the food supply is what I would expect. But maybe I’m just crazy
this is not army MRE
@@senpalma а я сказал, что это армейский?
If I was in a survival situation and had a choice, I would definitely choose the Russian MRE, for more variety throughout the day.
Never mind that Russia can be trusted to use better ingredients. With the US meals you get a large load of chemicals and cheap ingredients. The only real upside there is they include a cooker of sorts. Maybe that doesn't make a huge difference to you when you don't have a choice either way, but it does reflect on how much each military values their individual personnel.
Stop talking crap about Russians and Palestinians, it is all propaganda war!
@@statinskill I'm not sure about that one. Have you heard about the Russian Army canned dog food incident?
@@kitsunehouse3504 Sure, the one time it doesn't hold true. Major Igor Mateev was found out and sentenced to four years of imprisonment. It was one man at the center of that scam. I'll still pick any IRP over any MRE.
@@statinskill I would too for a camping trip
Traditionally, in Russian food, the “Thursday” set consists of dishes with fish. As I understand it, the other sets are different from each other. You should compare another set, perhaps "Monday", "Tuesday" or another set.
I don't think something that was tried to be made a thing and failed in soviet times can be called a tradition.
@@AlexanderVonMalachi There is no failure here, many catering enterprises and canteens in Russia still use this method of nutrition. And fish dishes are served on Thursday. Basically, this is for the first ear and for the second fried fish with a side dish.
fish soup made of freshly caught fish is a common russian outdoors delicacy. implying you are eating this meal outdoors i guess they are trying to emulate it. %) i don't think those russian mres are supposed to be eaten everyday. hence its rich contents.

Well in comparison to the US russia exists longer than 100 years.

I was surprised you didn't try the Tobasco sauce on anything. I think that takes the place of both salt and pepper in the American version. I think the Russian one was a 24-hour ration instead of a single meal like the US one. Just my uneducated guess! It's very nice to see them compared side by side like this. Also AWESOME to hear you pray before you eat. So many people don't do that, and if they do it's silent. It's just so nice to hear someone on RUclips pray before a meal. Thank you for that!! I'm a first time viewer and you have me hooked!! God bless you, sir, and from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!

@@MeAncient Yeah things from Russia that cost close to nothing within Russia itself are incredibly pricy once it's beyond its borders. Trying to find Russian quality produce for example here in the U.S is not an easy task.

@@gregklein4846I share homes between Los Angeles and Moscow. For some reason, U.S. goods do cost more in Russia, but it only applies to things that are rarely available in Russia (example Twizzlers candy lol), while something like Doritos Chips cost maybe 30 - 50 cents more if that. But when I get to the U.S., Russian goods are literally X4 or X5. Also, for some weird reason, the price of seafood in Russia is a lot lower, and this is shocking, as the U.S. has a huge supply of seafood (I am from Los Angeles, and you can get many things at markets like Redondo Beach etc.) So I am assuming, all of this has to do with demand. Russian items are not in high demand, so they are not imported in bulk, hence the cost. The cost of things like seafood, I really do not understand.
P.S. The prices with regards to seafood, I calculated both in dollars and rubles, and adjusted for avg salary and region were they are purchased. This is all so that it is fair.
Just my view and thoughts on the subject! Happy Holidays to you and yours from Moscow, Russia!)

Greetings from South Africa. I enjoy your videos a lot - really nice and calm way to compare unusual new things. Thanks.
BTW The russians are delicate people with deeply ingrained sence of properness.
The CHOCOLATE powder with the cappuchino is not to mix it in but to sprinkle it on Top, for added chocolaty flavor and nicer look.
I know that probably in north america you have to settle for things like starbucks when it comes to coffee (they serve cappucino in a cylindrical cup and don't have nice chocolate powder, but in Viena for instance - this is a classic coffee type.
I was seriouly impressed to see this. Respect.

Not quite a direct comparison, as the Russian is intended to be a full day's worth of food. What you have there is the "Thursday" installment of their "Week of rations" series. I had a few cases of these at one point a few years ago, but I only have a couple left because yes, they are that good.
Thank you for another wonderful review!

Нет. Это разовый паек, не суточный. Четверг это просто набор меню. Ещё с ссср есть такое понятие- четверг - рыбный день. Поэтому в нем была уха. А в суточном пайке 3 основных блюда и много закусок
Yeah I figured it was a 24 hour ration with 3 packs of crackers and 3 main dishes. The American one was a single meal.
It's not "Week of Rations". Nedelya zhisni means "Week of Life". Which is probably their way of setting expectations. Expectations of maybe not a "Week of Delights", but a week with reasonably enough calories and nutrients that you will live.
There's also the consideration that not all MREs are created equal in the US ARMY. Those of us who spent a lot of time in the field or overseas learned really fast which ones were actually good, and which ones were offensively bad. You could see this too because there would end up being a pile of MREs no one wanted after the boxes were pilfered through. A lot of people thought omelet MRE was bad, which I concur, the entrée tasted terrible, but it had Skittles in it, and you could trade Skittles for almost anything.
@@Animaggilgamesh As an exercise to myself I will translate the Russian comment here without using a translator.
"No. This is a single pack, not a daily. Thursday is simply a menu selection. Back in the USSR Thursday was understood as fish day. Therefore there was ukha fish in them. But in the daily packet were three basic dishes and many side items".
Really do appreciate these vids. I'm long out of the USMC but I told my soon to be 8 yr old son who is watching this w/ me that we are going camping this Spring and bringing MREs. MREs are far better than when I was in 1999-2003.

In my opinion, the Russian MRE is better, not only this one but also many other types I have seen over the times..
But again it also depends on the circumstances, and if you are on a Recon patrol, it’s better to have something that’s easy to prepare and doesn’t require you to start a fire 🔥 or light up a tablet stove..
The Russian MRE was a 24 hour one. I didn't realize that until I was editing the video. Another comparison video coming soon. TFW!

There's a Scottish staple dish called Stovies: fried onions, and diced potatoes, then the heat is turned down, and left to stew. Meat, often tinned corned beaf, is added.
Having been ill, and not done my grocery shopping. I recently discovered a quick way to make a larder cupboard version: powdered mash (butter, and milk powder was added) some onion gravy granules, and half a tin of corned beef...
I was so pleasantly surprised, I made the same a few nights later 😋

I would go with a russian one just because of the nuts and seeds. Overall it seems to me that Russian has more nutritional value in terms of healthy fats from nuts and seeds. American one seems to me very focused on carbs which means that probably the russian one could be more filling.
In a survival situation, carbs are the most important. Russian may be more nutritional, preferable for usual situations in battle, but i would take the US one in a dire situation.
The Russian one is breakfast, lunch and dinner in one bag. You would have to use three US MRE's to compare.
Yeah they don’t have anything to compare to USA mres
We don't have a 3 meal combo in a single MRE at this time. I didn't realize that the Russian MRE was a 3 meal one until I started to edit. My bad but TFW!

You were mistaken. You compared a one-time ration and a daily food ration. In the American one there is one meal, and in the Russian there are three meals a day, breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert. Comparison is incorrect!

The russian mre def is carb/fat loaded for their weather though. Soup is smart for water intake. Lots of quick snacks to shove into pockets too. Wonder if the russian ones needed more water
Yeah, the Russian one was supposed to be a 24 hour MRE. I'll be doing another review of one of those. That one was for a Thursday menu. The next one will be for a Friday menu. I'll treat it as a 3 meal, 24 hour MRE, the way it was intended. Stay tuned.......TFW!
I appreciate the use of the tray. Very few MRE reviewers understand the importance of the tray. Well done.
You may not have heard the story about the old tray I ordered. It was sold on the website (this has been about 2 1/2 years ago) that it was an 'original military food tray.' When I received it, the receipt said that it was either from the military or 'might have originated in the US Prison System.' There is a dent on one side of the tray and I always imagine my try came from a prison and one prisoner used it as a weapon to crown a fellow prisoner's gourd at the chow hall. TFW!
Nice comparison and another lovely video, thanks Me Ancient 🙂

Seeing a direct comparison between a US mre and a Russian mre.
The Russian one came with a lot more food, but Im guessing as a non military mre they arent constrained by a ridiculously low budget like military rations are.
Really great review. :)
Christine, thank you for your kind words. I'm happy you were able to see it right away. TFW
There's a Russian RUclipsr who tries different MREs from different countries. From his experience, Russian military MREs don't have a diverse variety of dishes, they generally don't have exceptional taste but they still taste good enough and have enough calories to keep someone active for an entire day. Russians also don't use a lot of chemical preservatives so they don't have fancy stuff like soft biscuits or pizza, but at the same time Russian meals taste more natural, like something you (or your parents) would've cooked at home.
The Russian one was for 24 hours. The US one was for one meal. Times the US by 3 or 2. See which one has more. The US wins by quite a bit, and has much different varieties.

It's a shame that our military doesn't have better field rations.
The Russian civilian had a lot more to it, but I think that in a situation where I would want one hardy meal to keep me going, the American one would be best. The upside of the Russian are the nuts and sweet things, they give you a nice kick and you can eat it on the run.

If I was wanting to survive and I could choose only one, I'd take the Russian one every day of thee week. The mains would be comparable on nutrition (probably), but the sides of those sunflower/nuts/dried fruit blows away anything in the US one for nutrition/protein and keeping one satisfied from hunger.... then the ALL ROUND epic winner of honey (anti-septic) and sweetener is just gold, not to mention the water treatment tabs as well as isotonic.... then the extra stuff.... its an easy win for the Russian MRE for survival.
Good observation. In fairness, I did not figure out the Russian MRE was a 24 hour one until I was editing the video.
