When I heard “navy beans” I perked up. Back in the 60’s my dad worked for a company that paid him once a month. By the end (and I had no idea we weren’t affluent) of the pay cycle my Mom had to stretch a dollar. Navy beans cooked with a piece of salt pork was a staple. Served with homemade biscuits was a treat!
'Possible presence' on ingredients lists usually means that the food was handled in a place that also handles those ingredients. The EU requires that you include those on the ingredients lists, mostly for hyper allergic people.
FYI, the Prunes in the can were semi dried. Which explains the blackish color. Not compromised. Check in a supermarket for dried prunes, and you'll see they usually look that way. Cheers!
The mint tea is a really nice addition... really good to aid digestion and upset stomachs. That should be something welcome on the field to combat a disagreeable MRE. That should be something included on a lot of MREs. Nice episode, French really do look after the troops.
From an European tea drinker. Boil your water, then put your tea bags in and let it rest just a little, please, don´t boil water with the tea bags in, it turns your tea bitter and non flavored, I also recommend removing the tea bag when you start to drink it. If you like your ice tea make a normal tea, let it rest, put it in the fridge and, ice tea. As for the coffee, same method, boil water and add your powder coffee, and if you don´t like sugar you can do it the Portuguese (South) way, with a stick of cinnamon on your cup, but do put a little sugar on your coffee, like I do, its better on your stomach, and always remember to drink some water after some strong coffee. And just a curiosity, in the EU almost all cans have that standard way to be open, it avoids a lot of accidents and is more practical. Those pates, they are great with some good rustic bread, but you can use some crackers, some people also like it with cheese.

French MREs are pretty darn good looking. Lots of goodies. That jelly nougat takes me back to the 60s at Grandmas house, definitely a vintage type of food but I've seen it still available. Nice that you can eat that main cold. And those fuel tabs were unusually long lasting. Great video. Thank you sir!
Another great review! French along with Spanish have to be the best I’ve tasted, great quality and utterly delicious! There’s a reason btw why US rations are amongst the cheapest!!having said that it’s always what you prefer and everyone’s tastes are different!
Wow what an interesting story about the arch that I've never heard before. I love how I can watch videos of you eating MREs, but I'll still have knowledge to take away!
That white dessert bar with fruits is called nougat, I believe. It's pretty darn delicious. And my French may be rusty but I believe salté means saltine crackers. That food looked really good. It makes me want to make that oriental salad at home. Only thing I can't comment on are the prunes, since I've never had it. Overall that looks delicious (or maybe it's my weakness for sweet things). Thanks for the video.

Lol the fruit in the can were prunes, and they always look like that. I really like prunes but each to their own. Prunes are added to help things "move" through the body lol. The French rations are probably some of the best. They have so many unique mains, I've eaten that one you have, and really enjoyed it. Hey guys! Great video. Looks like ya tried my suggestion of adding some salt to the bitter coffee. I agree with you, I was never a fan of it. My great uncle said that sugar was hard to get in Germany in WW2, at least for his squad, so, everyone started using salt, which was abundant. I guess it's an acquired taste, LOL! I don't know about that fruit. If it was supposed to be prunes, they looked pretty normal. But, they sure didn't look like the picture on the can. Looking forward to the next one, God bless guys.
I'm new to your channel. Really enjoying the MRE videos. Thanks for sharing. You had me belly laughing when you opened the prunes. By the way, they looked fine. I've read and seen in French films that the french serve "stewed prunes" as a dessert. A stewed prune will probably have a much different texture to a regular prune.
I have a feeling you were talking about Torrone, when you were saying it reminds you of something. It's made with honey sugar and nuts, also it is kind of chewy breakable.
If ever Beautiful Bride sends me to the dog house, I hope & pray it will be stocked with French MREs. Excellent review that nearly had me drooling over the keyboard.

When you teed Ace up with "what does that look like", referring to the salmon pate, all that could come to my mind is "you know he thinks it looks like cat food" 😄. The French do look like they eat well in the field. Good video guys! Stay safe and enjoy the coming Fall.
There was a story I recall from a Royal Marine buddy who served in Afghanistan that a popular thing that coalition forces would do when passing between checkpoints and bases would trade ration packs between them. He told me that it was common for him to trade out UK ORP's (Operational Ration Packs) with French RCIR Rations because while you'd get some "bad" rations that nobody wanted, the general rule was that you'd get a "close-to-gourmet" meal with any french ration even if it was a bad one. He did mentioned to me that US Servicemen would try it too but because their packs are more 1-2 meals than 24 hour rat packs, they'd need to give up 5 MRE's for 1 French Ration and they'd be extremely picky as to which MRE they'd want, normally they'll ask for the "best" MRE's and laugh if you try to give 'em mostly the bad ones, like Veggie Omelette
Okay everyone has to realize that the French mre is put together from commercial supplies.. the us and a lot of countries produce enough mre that they are run specific batch meals..
