I've had that MCW, and I agree with you. It's REALLY good! I always avoided any FD ration with scrambled eggs in it, thinking they would be rubbery, but I ended up trying that menu, and now I'm always looking out for them. They are usually the first menus to go when anyone is selling MCW, so I don't get the breakfast ones very often, but I've tried them all and there isn't one that's not great imo. Just one tiny suggestion, with the protein drinks, you really have to shake them for at least a minute to get them to mix. They won't mix if you just add water and let them sit. Great review again :)
i like how you guys never shake up things that need to be shaken, instead you just kinda knead them around a bit and are surprised when theyre not fully mixed or disolved hahaha
From my experience you have to shake the double H E hockey sticks out of the protein drinks to get them smooth and a little more water always worked best. That and the scramble always required a little more water and to sit for 5 more minutes than what they said. I would lay the scramble packet on top of the tortilla's to heat help them, the cheese on top of the scramble and cover it all with my balaclava to hold in the heat. All hot and worked out great.. My fav breakfast meal. Also the oatmeal was rockstar and I would split the sugar between that and the coffee. Having some sweetness in both worked great. A couple bites of oatmeal and then some sips of coffee both being semi sweet worked out great..

Usually, there's at least one component of the MRE, that doesn't measure up, but, this one looks like it all came out great. I don't remember ever seeing you, Me Ancient, use the entire bottle of Tabasco sauce before. A great idea with the soft tortillas. I wasn't hungry, until I watched this! LOL! Great video, looking forward to more, hope the rest of the MRE's, are as good as this one. God bless.

Love the freeze dried as you can count on it lasting forever. Those eggs look great, much better looking than the old omelet with ham (that I also loved). Tabasco and jalapeno cheese spread, spicy!

@@MeAncient Can confirm. Mountain House is the same company that makes the MCWs, and their commercial stuff is darn near the same as the MCWs. You don't get the same menus, but mix and match. I use them for backpacking and they're far and away the best.

The texture was not bad at all. I think fried eggs would be weird, but scrambled, not so bad at all....easy to duplicate. You should order some. They are quite good. TFW
I remember the early MREs with the dehydrated meat puck that was impossible to rehydrate properly. It either became meat soup or stayed a puck suitable for throwing at armor. Glad they are making positive strides in dehydration.

If you left it in the water long enough and placed it on the carburetor of a hot jeep, it was almost like a McDonalds Sausage. almost....I think......I honestly with I had one of those dehydrated old first generation MREs to try. I enjoy your MREs shows. You make me want to go buy a few 2023 packs. My grandfather served as a Marine from 1935-1945. My uncles 1936-1945. My dad 1950 to 1975 and myself 1987-1991. And I have seen every kind of canteen right. But this one I have never seen or the canteen cup! I guess they put you sone were cold! Not me HOT, WET, AND JUNGLES AND SWAMPS. LOL. Semfer FI Gunny!
Doug, I was a Corporal. That's as good as it got for me. Made it meritoriously in 24 months of active duty, but lost my enthusiasm after Beirut.....TFW!
Great video, and also that is a nice MRE, would hit the spot in a cold Winter day. Just a suggestion, some guys here put the protein drink in a bottle, even a simple water bottle, and shake it real good, that way you will have a nice smooth drink, this also works with the powdered drinks and some soluble teas you will find in about almost every European MRE - The Portuguese and Spanish ones usually have a nice strong coffee instead of tea.
I don't know how the military stuff is but, when Mountain House started making freeze dried stuff, they put a 10-year shelf life on it because they had no idea how long it was going to last. As time went on, they tested the things they had put up in the past to see how it was doing and after a few years they increased the shelf life from 10 to 30 years.
had some of the mountain house scrambled eggs with bacon over the weekend. what i learned is for the large / xl egg chunks the 10 minute soak time was not enough. those chunks of egg where finally ready to eat after soaking for a 1/2 hour. the hashbrown chunks you got are more likely in the same boat.

You’re supposed to use the more spoon or something similar to get down to the bottom of the freeze dried food to mix the water thoroughly. I carry an 11” chopstick with me to make sure I can reach all the way down to the bottom. U. S. Army female vet here.
I used to save the Jalapeno Cheese and Tortillas when I'd get them. A few hours after, those were a great snack together haha. Funny part, only MCW's I ever got was stateside during training. The time I'd have liked them, in during a deployment over winter in Stan, never saw an MCW.
I order 5 of the single food packs from Mountain House.... Biggest learning curve is tempering the amount of water in it to rehydrate. So far I have had one of the breakfast items and it was so so as I got too much water in it. It said 8 ozs, prolly cut back to 6 Thanks for the content

Was this a govt issued MRE or one of the companies that make MRE’s? Sorry if I missed it in the video. Usually one of the potential differences is no FRH. As out in the field you can’t always have a fire. I didn’t notice an FRH. Also. I have to say, thank god for you marines. I’m a civilian. My best friends are marines. We all graduated high school in may of 2001. I went to our state university, my best friends I met at 5 years old went to the corps. From 2002 to 2009 I joke that, aside from spouses, I probably spent more time staying at Pendleton than any civilian lol. Why, somehow ALL 3 of my friends ended up there between deployments. So I would do one weekend a month for years going to cali to see them. They also made me love MRE’s lol. Why? They would bring them camping. Before anyone of them joined the corps we used to do what we called “man camping”. We brought beer and a tent. The water and food we got from the land. So when they had MRE’s, and we went to the same camp sites in the white mountains they were a LUXURY lol. So I’m a civilian that just loves the MRE. Amazing invention and something my old man (two tours in Vietnam) was jealous of lol. The efficacy of the FRH always amazed me. Thank you all US Marines! I can’t say enough how as a civilian I was welcomed at Pendleton and also can’t even count the friends I made. You all earned the respect that you get, or should get, and it’s been a life long privilege to know so many marines.
With protein drinks commercial or army issued, they need to be shaken vigorously and then drank immediately. Even if it’s mixed well, it will settle if given a chance to sit.

I enjoy your MREs shows. You make me want to go buy a few 2023 packs. My grandfather served as a Marine from 1935-1945. My uncles 1936-1945. My dad 1950 to 1975 and myself 1987-1991. And I have seen every kind of canteen right. But this one I have never seen or the canteen cup! I guess they put you sone were cold! Not me HOT, WET, AND JUNGLES AND SWAMPS. LOL. Semfer FI Gunny!

Great video, and also that is a nice MRE, would hit the spot in a cold Winter day. Just a suggestion, some guys here put the protein drink in a bottle, even a simple water bottle, and shake it real good, that way you will have a nice smooth drink, this also works with the powdered drinks and some soluble teas you will find in about almost every European MRE - The Portuguese and Spanish ones usually have a nice strong coffee instead of tea.

I don't know how the military stuff is but, when Mountain House started making freeze dried stuff, they put a 10-year shelf life on it because they had no idea how long it was going to last. As time went on, they tested the things they had put up in the past to see how it was doing and after a few years they increased the shelf life from 10 to 30 years.

had some of the mountain house scrambled eggs with bacon over the weekend. what i learned is for the large / xl egg chunks the 10 minute soak time was not enough. those chunks of egg where finally ready to eat after soaking for a 1/2 hour. the hashbrown chunks you got are more likely in the same boat.
Tim, I'm really not sure how long we let the mixture soak, but those eggs and everything else were really good. TFW!

You’re supposed to use the more spoon or something similar to get down to the bottom of the freeze dried food to mix the water thoroughly. I carry an 11” chopstick with me to make sure I can reach all the way down to the bottom. U. S. Army female vet here.

I used to save the Jalapeno Cheese and Tortillas when I'd get them. A few hours after, those were a great snack together haha. Funny part, only MCW's I ever got was stateside during training. The time I'd have liked them, in during a deployment over winter in Stan, never saw an MCW.

I order 5 of the single food packs from Mountain House.... Biggest learning curve is tempering the amount of water in it to rehydrate. So far I have had one of the breakfast items and it was so so as I got too much water in it. It said 8 ozs, prolly cut back to 6 Thanks for the content

Was this a govt issued MRE or one of the companies that make MRE’s? Sorry if I missed it in the video. Usually one of the potential differences is no FRH. As out in the field you can’t always have a fire. I didn’t notice an FRH. Also. I have to say, thank god for you marines. I’m a civilian. My best friends are marines. We all graduated high school in may of 2001. I went to our state university, my best friends I met at 5 years old went to the corps. From 2002 to 2009 I joke that, aside from spouses, I probably spent more time staying at Pendleton than any civilian lol. Why, somehow ALL 3 of my friends ended up there between deployments. So I would do one weekend a month for years going to cali to see them. They also made me love MRE’s lol. Why? They would bring them camping. Before anyone of them joined the corps we used to do what we called “man camping”. We brought beer and a tent. The water and food we got from the land. So when they had MRE’s, and we went to the same camp sites in the white mountains they were a LUXURY lol. So I’m a civilian that just loves the MRE. Amazing invention and something my old man (two tours in Vietnam) was jealous of lol. The efficacy of the FRH always amazed me. Thank you all US Marines! I can’t say enough how as a civilian I was welcomed at Pendleton and also can’t even count the friends I made. You all earned the respect that you get, or should get, and it’s been a life long privilege to know so many marines.

With protein drinks commercial or army issued, they need to be shaken vigorously and then drank immediately. Even if it’s mixed well, it will settle if given a chance to sit.
