Of all the rations you go through, I really love the European rations (and some of the middle eastern/ Asian ones too), they just all seem to have cool and unique items that are regionally distinct and actually look delicious. Especially when compared with the American rations that are usually loaded with gas station food.
I think part of that is because somewhere along the line some officer looked at what privates were eating when they weren't at the DFAC and saw all the gas station food they were eating and went "Oh, okay, so this garbage, got it...as long as they eat it...."
I do notice that the Anglo countries like more sweets in their rations. I suppose a long term effect of the Victorian love of sweets spreading out across the old empire. The French MRE is top of my list, in quality and variety. I also like various eastern european ones as well. Oddly, I like the compressed cereal bars from chinese MREs too.
A good combatant is a combatant that eats well ! My father that made his service in french alp troops, 27eme Bataillon de Chasseurs Alpins, had super rations with local products, including super-rich food. You need some rich melted cheese, cream mont blanc (like the one on the video, its a cream with vanilla taste, exists at your local supermarket...). When I was growing up in the early 90's, the montblanc cream was a really common dessert at home and school canteens it was either vanilla or chocolate. The two main brands were Danette and Montblanc. I guess for people growing up in the 80's and 90's it can be considered as what you call confort food. The same thing can be said for the fruits jelly bars often served as afternoon snack in after school care.
Great video, the consumption of the patte with the main course sizzling in the background is perfect, these videos always make me hungry, great job again Steve!
Also, if the char on the tin isn't too black, you can add some water to it while the fuel tab is lit and you can de-glaze it with the water and a flat piece of wood (don't use metal or plastic). Once de-glazed, you can add it back to the main (stir it in) for another boost of flavor.
“Let’s get this out onto a tray….. Nice. Ok”. It’s been a while since I heard that….. I’ve watched you for years, though. You inspired me to get my own french MRE pack off Ebay a few years back. It was as delicious as it looked. However, the tablets stink when lit! Keep ‘em coming, mate.
If you wipe off the lid of the can and flatten it out and put it on the stove under the can it will reduce the burning of the food . my dad taught me that trick.
I wonder if it might be better to break the block into two, like what happened with his, and lean them together, and insert the lit match between. Then when it's lit, nudge them to spread them apart for a little more even cooking. Like, if you were starting a campfire, you wouldn't throw the match on top of the kindling. You'd be throwing several matches, at least.

Oohrah
Every time you take a couple weeks/months hiatus I get concerned an old MRE has finally taken you 🙃🤣 glad to see an upload!
Steve, you're back! I'm so excited for this review.
if I had to choose an MRE pack to eat for a while, I would choose the french they have some pretty sophisticated goodies, fire its easy with that stove that it comes and that pudding looks to be delicious any way good video keep up with those reviews
Glad to see you back, man. I was really worried after seeing you mess with that Chinese mre ration. ration.
Please be safe doing these, we worry about you man.
Steve I hope you live forever
Bambino he’s got enough preservatives in his system, he just might.
Shane K not how it works but I wish
Bambino I’d give him another few centuries at least
He's definitely built up his immune system.
Yeah I would watch zombie Steve, “Alright let’s get this brain out on the tray, nice...”
On se lève tous pour Danette
I love watching your videos it’s like another type of asmr
This is the first of these ration videos where my mouth started to water.
You are making me hungry, Steve. And I just ate dinner!
He should be on the food network....his explanation on the food he ears is spot on
Eats.....oops

The only acceptable time to use the word LIT
Dylan Hagen well said!!!! May we dispose of the useless non grammar millennials at once!
Jose Delira bruh
"Lit" in French means "bed".
I live for Steve's uploads! :D
Excellent review sir.
Even for the good folks just like me who wear dentures, we all too, can consume this entire MRE.
If you wipe off the lid of the can and flatten it out and put it on the stove under the can it will reduce the burning of the food . my dad taught me that trick.
since when did marbled meat and army ration go into the same sentence? oh wait this is French...go France, you do you
Thank you for the cool videos you bring us, Steve.
Always such a treat to see a new upload from Steve
I love all French rations, those puddings are the best.
Needs a whole 3 matches to light a fuel block in perfect windless conditions love it haha!
Steve, you do special things to ease my anxiety with your videos. Lol. You’re basically the NPR of international ration cuisine.
