These self-aware "State of the Matt" videos are great. Getting excited about a new thing, shopping, planning, and anticipating the new hobby/obsession, but then moving on before making much progress is a pattern of incompleteness many can relate to. Like past aspirations of road biking at St Petersburg/Clearwater, mountain biking, and sporadic CrossFit. Essential health is so important ! Great update, Matt.

Matt, I think the best thing about this plan is that it’s a complete lifestyle change. Not like all those crazy “diets” you used to do, which were so extreme they were guaranteed to fail, this is a real plan that you can stick with. Kudos to see, way to go man.

A fear of a fear is the best way to describe it. There will always be times when it is bad, but knowing that it will eventually pass helps.
Challenge your fear. Become comfortable with the uncomfortable and know that you just need to ride the wave of anxiety and it will eventually pass. View every opportunity to drive as an opportunity to become comfortable with feeling uncomfortable. Dont run away from the fear, rather, run towards it.
Love the content, keep it coming!

Yeah...it's a pretty common colloquialism. Sometimes people that suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder are also particular and organized, but not always. Most of the people on the show Hoarders also suffer from it. OCD for me has to do with obsessing about a subject, usually medically related and my phobias and fears around it. It used to be very sub conscience, but has become much more forefront as I've gotten older. The goal is to concentrate on what causes it to become so forefront. Stress about money and risk, people around me also cause more worry, and also being unhealthy physically and chemically are all factors that I'm working on improving to help push the OCD tendency into the background.

Been on carnivore since Jan 2019 to help with autoimmune issues with drastic positive results. Got off all the autoimmune meds associated with those issues. The mental positive changes have been tremendous too. Good to see that I'm not the only supplement wildman lol. I don't really workout formally though as I have many, many grueling hobbies that keep me in shape... fixing/modding old cars (actual beaters ;)), remodeling an old house, building things, playing with my kids etc. Glad to see that your business ventures are doing well enough to provide the high quality foods and supplements. Keep fighting!

I’ve been following you for awhile Matt. You’ve came such a long way. Given your level of OCD and issues you’ve stated you’ve had with anxiety etc, it blows my mind how you were able to quit your “stable” financial advising role and jump into the abyss to start your own business, seemingly from “just” washing cars. That alone would ruin people. I don’t have anxiety, nor OCD, but I don’t know if I’d have the courage to leave my stable job in Medicine to pursue the unknown. Props to you and all your success you’ve had; and of course thanks for sharing the process !

I understand the death spiral 'fear of the fear'... Been working on similar situations over the last three years, initially triggered by a bout of antibiotics. I know you have some heredity history with this, but I would recommend really concentrating on your gut microbiome. It sounds like everything you're doing is support of this, I just wanted to reinforce the microbiome aspect as I've learned that a MAJORITY of ALL of our issues start, and end in the gut. Fix it, and maintain it. You need that serotonin factory doing its thing!
BTW, I collect MINIs, and have two collector grade I'm scared to drive to even Cars n Coffee... But I have a third beater MINI that I now drive daily... It still gets a car cover, and it really took some mental fortitude to 'let myself' drive a non-perfect vehicle, but man it was liberating when I finally got over it. Enjoying the driving aspect more also.
Thanks for candidly sharing your story...

For a period of time in my 20’s I was really into sports science and supplementation so i read a lot. The Fadogia and Tongkat I picked up from Huberman recently and the bodily response after 2 months wasn’t all I hoped so I’ve shelved them for now; similar to what you said about them now in the Optional category. I have found that Ashwaghanda is responding very well for me as an adaptogen and hormone maintainer; I take it before bed. I’ll look into some of those tests you mentioned so I can really dial in my supplementation as I age my 40’s. Continued success, Matt!

My two cents add in sardines, kefir and Vital Farms organic and pasture raised eggs. If not Vital Farms pick any organic and pasture raised (not free range). And simplify as much as possible. The first time you passed out at the hospital, it was a trauma which most likely created a soul wound. These traumas are usually what limits someone's life. You can usually tell if someone has suffered from a trauma since they will act out of character in certain situations. The key to healing a soul wound is emotional healing. The Praying Medic has a book called Emotional Healing Made Simple which walks you through the process.

SNF doesn't have many options, but if you're a strip fan, looks for a 'Denver cut' steak - it's typically quite a bit cheaper than strip (but prices are rising as more folks discover the cut), but it's a very similar taste/cut - it's an interesting story why it came to be.

2nd post for this video now that I have watched in entirety. Seems like many of the longevity guru’s believe that Creatine is a proven supplement, didn’t hear you mention this. The ones that I consistently hear are Creatine, omega 3 and a multi vitamin to catch the rest… I have started taking Creatine, seems that it is making me hold weight - most reviews state that it should not but that has been my experience. I do like Peter Attia’s approach- if not listen to his podcast it may be one you find interesting. The SRF meat is expensive! But I may try it out. What are you cooking on? We recently purchased a Blackstone, cooked my first steak and it was very good. Matt hope you keep posting on your approach and learnings, I find it helpful to see what others are doing. The only way to know if suppliments are effective is to do blood work, to see if youre reaching the right levels. Also researching outside of the common guidelines esp supplimenting wit D3 and C significantly above guidelines, but you have to know what youre doing. This is such a broad topic. Good luck with your plan Matt. Ps. Get rid of all the white flour, it causes glucose spikes. Only wholemeal bread or old grains, genetically unmodified, which might be hard in the US. You are driven by the “hunt” of the best processes, equipment, etc. Obviously we humans are all unique with different processes that work for us but as an expert in your game, could you give me the 30,000 ft view of how you approach your researching? Reason why I ask is because I am a similar age to you and have noticed me slacking on keeping up with aging, has taken a toll. I’m not overweight but the stamina has suffered along with some other things. I’d like to use your well tested approach of researching things and use it to find a routine for myself for nutrition, exercise plan and also some other things surrounding the physical fitness area. Thanks for any help you can provide and I appreciate all the effort you put in to your responses, even with so many subscribers. Excellent work, Matt!

Careful not to take Huberman's word as gospel--read the papers he discusses yourself. He takes surprisingly great liberties with the results of underpowered or poorly designed studies. As an engineer and someone who has both published in a scientific journal and peer-reviewed for others, I'm surprised with how willing he is to go all-in on the results from these types of studies.

Matt, im working on another post or email for you too & need to finish your vid & comments out of curiosity, but more importantly, some stuff you must look into. I am basically in your shoes, but a million times worse. But as some smartazz once said, A Shoemaker With No Shoes.🙄
      Anyway,
This is the 3rd time I've heard this about Hubberman! First from my sister, who i think is the smartest person in the world , lol, as I'm the smartest person I know, or, was! 😕
My sister is a Research Librarian at a Univ for MDs & RNs ect, & I remember her speaking about Hubberman & her students who follow him, but she said he speaks of incomplete science, however, I would still consider his views as possible & valid , untested, but plausible, maybe...
she likes it when he has experts on to interview, but shouldn't be talking about some stuff being out of some small obscure office at Stamford. When she said this I laughed & thought of Dr. Peter Venkman getting kicked out of his Univ in the beginning of Ghostbusters l.😂
      She said:
"But usually it’s just him bloviating
wth out the authority to sell supplements I guess".but says she likes it when he has experts on.
She sent me this really goid article critiquing Heuberman:

Eating chicken liver and a supplement called Clearvite-GL (K-118) has really helped with my MTHFR gene mutation. I saw a real benefit from taking collagen as well. You can get a case discount on the Mountain Valley spring water if you have a local Sprouts. I think I pay $30 a case. Really glad you are taking this thing head on. My only concern is taking so many different things at once. I have worked in formulation and process development for pharma for over 20 years and all drugs including supplements have a risk(side effect)/benefit. I also dabbled in the supplement area for a time and the lack of actual data is pretty scary and many people just feel they are completely safe. I feel we are all looking for that thing that will just solve the issue and honestly I don’t think it’s gonna be a pill. I realize pills have helped many but I have seen data many times where it helps some and does nothing to others. The biological variability is huge. It’s all just one big experiment. I have seen many people and done it myself, going from this thing to that trying to solve the problem. In my life the supplements have either done nothing or have caused some unwanted side effects.. Honestly, I think just eating healthy, exercise and talking about your issues (therapy, friends/family) works the best. And please don’t take this as a negative comment on your program. I am no doctor. I am a believer if something is working keep doing it, but I also know the experiment goes on. Good luck.

Very delayed comment, long time follower though. I have had a few different strength coaches with very impressive backgrounds (Division 1, MLB, NFL) and their advice for improving anything body weight related, such as pull ups, HSPU, etc. was to just lose weight.
For weightlifting it takes mass to move mass, but for body weight or calisthenics exercise you just want to be light and strong.

Matt, you need to look into grass fed grass FINISHED beef. Otherwise you’re eating GMO corn-fed beef, which has no nutritional value.
I’ve been using Butcher Box delivery.
Not promoting them, you can choose your own brand, but “grass fed” means nothing, the FDA allows (paid off) one blade of grass to suffice as grass fed.
Good luck with your transition away from OCD anxiety. It’s completely possible!!

I usually don't like the taste of grass-fed only. Not all grains are modified. That being said. SRF is so darn good I wonder about the health quality of it. I may head down the path again and try some other beef providers.

Matt, weight alone is not an accurate indicator of changes in body composition. Lean muscle mass alone melts fat and so should be your primary goal, improving strength, as opposed to attempting to maximize the actual ratio between body mass and body fat. Towards achieving this, online research reveals more accurate methods for calculating these changes in lean muscle mass which are more accurate than traditional skinfold caliper tests or body fat percentage measurements:
    1. Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) Scans.
Advantages: High precision, detailed regional analysis (e.g., arms, legs, trunk). Limitations: Expensive, requires specialized equipment and trained personnel, exposure to low levels of radiation.
    2. Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA).
Advantages: Quick, non-invasive, and widely available.
Limitations: Results can be affected by hydration levels, food intake, and other factors. Less accurate than DEXA.
    3. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT) Scans. Advantages: Extremely accurate, can measure specific muscle groups. Limitations: Very expensive, not typically used for routine monitoring, requires specialized equipment.
    4. Ultrasound.
Advantages: Non-invasive, portable, no radiation, relatively cost-effective. Limitations: Requires skill to obtain accurate measurements, results can be operator-dependent.
    5. Hydrostatic Weighing (Underwater Weighing).
Advantages: Once considered a gold standard, fairly accurate. Limitations: Requires access to specialized equipment, uncomfortable for some individuals, less practical for routine use.
    6. Air Displacement Plethysmography (Bod Pod).
Advantages: Non-invasive, quick, and comfortable. Limitations: Expensive, requires specialized equipment.
    7. Creatine (3-Methylhistidine) Excretion.
Advantages: Provides insight into muscle metabolism. Limitations: Indirect measure, requires laboratory analysis, influenced by diet.
    8. Muscle Circumference Measurements.
Advantages: Simple, inexpensive, can be done at home. Limitations: Only provides information on muscle size, not composition. Muscle growth can sometimes be accompanied by fat gain, which might skew results.
    9. Functional Strength Tests.
Advantages: Directly relevant to performance, simple to implement. Limitations: Gains in strength don't always correlate with increases in muscle mass, as neural adaptations also play a significant role.
    10. Photographic and Visual Assessment.
Advantages: Simple, non-invasive, useful for personal tracking. Limitations: Subjective, lighting and angles can affect appearance, does not provide quantitative data.
    11. Body Composition Software Tools.
Advantages: Accessible, non-invasive, some can integrate with wearable devices. Limitations: Accuracy depends on the quality of the input data and the algorithm used.
    Thanks for the video.

There is no magic pill. All of what you’re doing may flatten the peaks, but you’re expecting some magic combination of exercise and supplements to “fix” you. The truth is until you shift your mindset nothing will resolve the issue. You’re not respecting the power of thought and working to disrupt the negative patterns fixated on an imagined disaster scenario. Your fears are no different than the losers in the comment section that spew bs about you and your business - it has no ground to stand on.
