Hey great vid! i got a question, i have a 1986 golf mk2 cl and i wonder if there is a way to turn off the lights aka parking lights and low beams, because when i change in between the light modes it goes from low beam to parking lights and then low beams again, the only way to turn them off completely is to turn off the ignition and i want that to be possible when the ignition is on.
@@RestoDesignsnando im from Sweden and the thing is that I think it is a law that u have to have some short of light on when driving and I don’t want that.
@@motopat06 Ok yes I see, well you have two options, 1 you buy a "normal" mk2 light switch and wiring loom that goes to the fusebox, 2 you try you see where the "key in +12v" power is coming from to the lights, then cut that power. If you need a light switch and wiring loom CE2 fusebox I have that in stock and will list it on the website if you need it.
@@RestoDesignsnando Ah, so if it has its own bulb then replacing the 3 normal bulbs with LEDs (as per your video) will not fix my clock bulb, is that what you're saying?
Hello i recently bought a cluster that has the same functions as yours anyhow you can give a full diagramme of the cluster please also there's a vacuum line i don't know where it goes my engine is carburator.
is the light intenisty in the switches stil working ? or on the dash ? if now , how can you do that ? with a resistor or something ? int the main light switch ?
Damn thats a really good idea to unhook the speedo cable by going under, when I did mine I managed to press the tab while my dad pulled the cable from under the hood lol
On the website you can choose different colors on the LEDs but is there something that makes it green on the dash? Because i want it to be red light and not green.
Dont know if @RestoDesigns will see this comment or not. But here goes I have an Mk2 with just two lights on upper part of the dash. The 3rd middle one isn't there. They are not working, I have bought new bulbs and installed but still they don't work. I was told that it might be the green foil that is broken. it did snap or tore off in one small part of the clock. I would like to ask how to fix this, if there is any way without using new foil or clocks. Cheers
hi there, first check what is missing +12 or -12 once you know that then it's easy, if -12 is missing then you can take earth from anywhere with a wire and solder that wire on to the bulb leg which makes contect onto the green foil. If you're missing +12 then again solder a wire from one of the other bulbs +12 and solder that to the bulb that isn't working. Hope that makes sense.
@@RestoDesignsnando wow, thank you for such a quick answer. I don't understand what you are talking about. I mean I understand that +12 means the electricity 1.2 ampers if I understood correctly. But I don't know how to solder, the bulbs came with their cases not just legs. Anyways, thank you but I am condemned to drive my Golf without dash lighting. Listen to the engine to change the gear and all that. Also none of the bulbs are working and I bought them new.
@@Epatzy Do you mean why isn't it green? Because the surround has a green filter which turns the white bulb green. As you can see in the video it works very well.
Great channel! Have learned alot. I have and 1987 GLI that hasnt ran in 20 years. This channel will get her back on the road, thank you!
Glad you have found this info helpful 👍🏼 and thanks for watching.
Great golf MK2 content dude, can't believe your channel subscriptions aren't higher, bet you'll blow up this year! 🧨
Maybe one day! LOL thank you mate!
Great video. Keep the Mk2 content coming. Nice tip with the felt tape to reduce squeaks and rattles.
Thank you, yes that is a nice tip and did reduce the squeaks and rattles I was having in that area.
Brilliant content buddy..consistent great info...brings back memories of all my mk2 days...all those extras make the mk2 a great place to be👍
Couldn't agree more friend and thank you! 👍🏼
It took me a bit to readjust my eyes to the LEDs, but now i love mine.
Great job. I've done this about 50 x myself. But it's great watching someone else do it. I used blue Leds to match my radio
Thanks for watching, it really does make the car that little bit nicer to drive/use, blue idea using the blue led's, nice touch. 👍🏼

Where are you from, North America? That doesn't sound right. Maybe to have a +12v going to the light switch are grey/blue wire.

Do these sockets i mean the whole led fit in a mk3 cluster ?
Yes I think they will.

MKII is so simple, that's why I love it so much. :)
They really are so nice to work on compared to todays cars.
Excellent video. My clock/MFA doesn't light up. Would that be cured by fitting a new lower bulb or does it have its own bulb within the clock unit?

Were the led bulbs green colour ; Or were they white led bulbs and the green was produced by the green filter ;
Yes the LED's are white and pass throw a green filter.
Hi where do u buy led
There is a link in the description
Where did you get your gear knob from? Was it a sticker for the original golfball?

Yes there are small green plastic filters which make the lights green, they are be removed and then you can have any colour you like.
@@RestoDesignsnando Is it easy to remove the filters?
@@ostron9836 yes it is.
@@ostron9836 The green filter foil also acts as a diffusor. If you remove it you will get two hotspots of light.
