I’ve built a 400+bhp mk2 cl in 2014. Thing scared everyone that dared to join me on the passenger seat. It wasn’t built as a dedicated race car though. Sold it 2 years ago. Still miss it sometimes. Mental car. Love to see someone doing this type of project with an mk2!
Respect ! You live the true Spirit of Motorsport Nige. It's not the money that you don't have, it's what you make out of what you got..and there you excelled.
What an amazing accomplishment. To produce something that takes on supercars using home grown knowledge deserves huge credit as does his driving ability. Very humble guy too 👍
I really appreciate this car build. One man on a very modest budget (for car standards) built himself a machine that can put moneyed pretenders to shame. A man in a garage with a hammer taken to the extreme.
That's a guy who love his car. His energies are floating while he is talking about his car. I love the way you edit the video. You did a hell of a job. Sincerely Bert de Vries from the Nederlands
As the speed goes up the driving becomes smoother and makes more and more sense. Paradoxically, the car seems to become more planted on the road as the driving gets faster. As a spectator you get in the zone and start feeling like it's easy. Exceptional driving, exceptional car, fantastic video!
This is a seriously impressive race car. A team could rightfully be proud of such an effort, but this was done by one man. And this man will inspire many to build their dreams. A+++++
How can you not love cars like this, built in a shed and shit all over cars that cost silly money. Owner is a really cool guy that explained everything and that aero is not just for show it actually works! Thanks for video awesome lap.
Car: Impressive, quite the feat of knowledge and engineering. Beautifully done. Driver: Phenomenal skills. This man is either a natural extension of the vehicle or the vehicle is a natural extension of himself. It's amazing to see someone who just knows their vehicle and where the limits of it are and how far they can push it. Great video. I was clinging to my seat watching this!
Wow, what a fun ride! Great build of this fabulous machine, the fact that this driver did it all himself is admirable and well worth the effort after what he and the car achieved here. Thanks so much for this and keep safe out there, love this!
I also have a mk4 golf been building it for 2 years now and hope to take it on Nurburgring someday not as good as yours yet but hoping to get there one day 😍love your build and passion and how you dedicated yourself into learning aerodynamics to improve your car,
Imagine being taken over a mk2 Golf while driving your Porsche 911 GT2... That Golf is mental! Car was barely driving below 200Kmh on the Ring! This mad lad is a really good driver as well!
99.999% of porsches are valued to much driver to throw into a corner to get 85% of the expected performance. 99.9999% of VW racers have multiple donar cars and 3 generations of powertrains back in the shed to build up eventually, and 4 junkyards with more. The worse thing to happen to the air cooled VWs is when they became collectable. The golf will not have that problem.
Misha please do more of these videos, this videos was fantastic, I'm not much of a VW fan but this guy built it all himself in his shed/garage at home.
IF I remember correctly, it was Nige who gave me a ride-along on my first trip to the ring for a sighting lap. Then he jumped in my (non turbo) Impreza and gave pointers. Now its one of my favourite memories of the place some 13?? Years and 6 trips later…
I love how a humble petrol head talks about his beloved beast even though you can clearly see the rust starting to do its job on the body !!!! Peace !!
Brilliant bit of development of a humble car by a proper petrolhead-tremendous work Nigel, I love it. I have never driven the Nurburgring-but I have ridden round it on a Ducati and it ain’t an easy circuit to learn-but you obviously really know it-great car, great driver.
Props for doing all that good stuff to a MK2 Golf, instead of using a more modern, track oriented car :) (not that a modern car can't be fun, of course :P)
Great driving! Good lines and nice show of politeness to the other drivers as you passed. But, I can't help but see Sabine's smile and her hitting the steering wheel of the Transit as she pushed around the track.

@@Diftonez - Haha, ok non hater. I know what you’re saying but, as an NA engine it can be turned into a beast without turbocharging. Some incredible hill climb cars have them tuned to 300+hp. I like the modern 2.0 TFSI, I like older Golfs though and the ABF is perfect for mk1 and mk2 platform cars.
@@Pickchore woah I had no idea they made such big numbers while still na???? That’s nuts. The new tsi motors are fucking incredible tho. Vw has reached a point where u can pretty much just tell ur tuner how much power u want and it’ll be pretty relatively easy to attain.
@@mstrshkbrnnn1999 - Chexk our Boba Motoring. That guy has managed to squeeze 1200hp+ from a turbocharged ABF. I think that some folk have combined the newer TFSI and the ABF in some way (Block and head combo). There is also a version that came in Audi’s called a 9A. The ABF is very closely related to the engine found in the Audi S2. You can take the inlet and outlets from an S2, chop off and weld up the 5th bank and bolt it all straight onto the ABF. Boba also uses a 1Z head from a TDI. There must be a reason this guy, Boba and others use this instead of the more modern TFSI. The conversion can be done with the TFSI into older cars and there’s plenty of spares lying around yet they still stick with the ABF.

What a car! What a lap! And what fantastic camera work, it really conveys the feeling of speed, a brilliant job all around!
That was great, always good to see a man use his skills determination and passion to turn the ordinary into something very special, loved seeing the car and having everything explained and the lap was just good fun. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing, cheers 4 that ;).
I’ve built a 400+bhp mk2 cl in 2014. Thing scared everyone that dared to join me on the passenger seat. It wasn’t built as a dedicated race car though. Sold it 2 years ago. Still miss it sometimes. Mental car.
Love to see someone doing this type of project with an mk2!
beautiful driving - and you can really see the aero stability during the highspeed stuff along with the suspension working beautifully
Incredibly immersive. I got an adrenaline rush from just watching this. Great driving!
Respect ! You live the true Spirit of Motorsport Nige. It's not the money that you don't have, it's what you make out of what you got..and there you excelled.
In assuming this guys favorite show as a kid was mcgyver
Yes!!
@@user-ey9ey5gg4n McGyver:just back from the future in my duct-tape time machine; saw a rabbit lap the ring. I've got some ideas.
That is one of the smartest, and most awesome boost settings and options list I have ever heard. Whatta a badass.
Misha is like Joe Rogan of the Ring
joe rogan is an idiot, misha not.
in your mind, yes.
So, have you ever tried DTM?
Except he's knowledgeable, humble and not a douche talking over people
@@tocsa120ls hahaha 😂
Fantastic car, and great to hear Nigel talking us through it. Every second on of this video a joy to watch.
That was nothing but a fight. That man can drive.
Big respect for this car, but even bigger respect for handing out thank you waves through the lap 👍
This is a seriously impressive race car. A team could rightfully be proud of such an effort, but this was done by one man. And this man will inspire many to build their dreams. A+++++
Absolutely one of the best Track video's I have seen. A little Golf smashing up the track...sweet.
How can you not love cars like this, built in a shed and shit all over cars that cost silly money. Owner is a really cool guy that explained everything and that aero is not just for show it actually works! Thanks for video awesome lap.
Amazing car, I bet Mrs Nige hasn't got a clue how much he's spent
😂😂
It takes a lot of trust to go on a ride like that.
No it just takes decent seat belts🤦🏻♂️
Why thatwas a real slow lap?
@I like frogs . no lmao
@I like frogs . for what he drives with his mods I'd say its spectacular! Takes some degree of balls too 😂
@I like frogs . let him be i guess
real raw power, the chassis and body rattle and squeaks awesome, you got to hear it with headphones
I just love how this guy really put some serious thought into this vehicle, wicked little machine
I also have a mk4 golf been building it for 2 years now and hope to take it on Nurburgring someday not as good as yours yet but hoping to get there one day 😍love your build and passion and how you dedicated yourself into learning aerodynamics to improve your car,
I've got chills and I'm laughing like a school girl watching this. Thanks so much!...... I'm a 44 year old guy.. LOL
"Road legal in the UK"....as a German, I just died :)
Yeah, Ed Chinas sofa is road legal in UK and This thing actually looks like car..
Seen a tank being road legal in UK
Imagine being taken over a mk2 Golf while driving your Porsche 911 GT2... That Golf is mental! Car was barely driving below 200Kmh on the Ring! This mad lad is a really good driver as well!
99.999% of porsches are valued to much driver to throw into a corner to get 85% of the expected performance. 99.9999% of VW racers have multiple donar cars and 3 generations of powertrains back in the shed to build up eventually, and 4 junkyards with more. The worse thing to happen to the air cooled VWs is when they became collectable. The golf will not have that problem.
Barely started the video and just wanted to say his build quality is phenomenal!
@ 5:03 Opens the door "Looks pretty standard.." LMAO Nothing in it looks standard! :)
*woosh*
That’s the joke Lul
This things a masterpiece and the pilot of this machine is a legend
I would love sit down with this kind man and just chat cars, mods and aerodynamics.
Probably my favorite video. The things this man has done to his car amazing!
The power steering pump crying for mercy ;-).
Was also wondering about the light. Awesome car !
That's why I warned him before the lap. I've since replaced the pump, that one was getting too noisy.
What I appreciate about Misha is letting the guy talk, very informative. thanks brother for another great video !!
Peace !!
Great video guys, cheers. :)
Brilliant bit of development of a humble car by a proper petrolhead-tremendous work Nigel, I love it. I have never driven the Nurburgring-but I have ridden round it on a Ducati and it ain’t an easy circuit to learn-but you obviously really know it-great car, great driver.
This car and it’s builder are amazing. Fair play to you.
This is absolutely excellent.
A great build and a fun drive.
The mk1 & MK2 Golf are the best vehicles I have ever driven.
Amazing car! Love that the door cards are carbon fibre ... no wait .... carton fibre!🤣
I am beyond impressed with the owner and the machine itself. I mean everyone must see this video and know what an amazing thing this legend has created. He can actually rock the sticker "built not bought". Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. Btw loved it.
That car is ALIVE!!!!Best lap of the 'ring I've ever seen, beautiful, thank you.
Waving at everyone he passes, how very British 😄. Cracking build 👏
Hey Misha, how was it as a passenger? It looked smooth and controlled while still fast
More of these types of videos please!
Exactly!
REAL quality video. Great commentary from both of you. And way to NOT take over the converstion! Great camera work. Pat yourself on the back! I can tell you respect your subjects. I will be following you now!
"it gets very hot under the bonnet, after a lap".....i can see that now......:-) impressive stuff....and good old british craftsmanship....building the car...and driving it....
respect...
Crazy cool build. Definitely agree with others that these kinds of cars are a joy to watch, especially when the owners did so much work themselves and know every facet of it. Also really digging the overlay on the camera, wonder what that is!
ABF is the best VW engine ever, this guy just reaffirmed that for me.
In terms of reliability, maybe. But the newest tsi 2.0 is just incredible!! PS: I have ABF turbo in golf mk1 shell, so not a hater at all )
@@Diftonez - Haha, ok non hater.
Here’s a Boba built mk2 with 800hp doing 200mph on the autobahn. I also think this car is front wheel drive.

Amazing!
What a mad man

wow hats off to this guy, the first 9.5 mins were truly intriguing. He knows SO much , should definitely have been part of a pit crew at some point in his life. Or at least the engineering team.
Impressive little Golf
Also impressive that the power is so linear, even with the turbo. Very well controlled power per gear, fantastic setup.
