    I'm an ESG noob, so I had to look up ESG on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental,_social,_and_corporate_governance?wprov=sfti1 In short, ESG companies are much more likely to meet a standard of social responsibility, especially with respect to the environment. To me, that sounds like accountability. It can be a way to invest with a conscience. Global warming is real, and it's possible to invest in companies who care about it. That's why you invest in ESG funds. It's not a perfect system, but it's a shorthand way to invest in companies who care about more than just their own bottom line.
    As to why Katie Porter is upset, I think it's mostly because this hearing was a waste of everyone's time and energy. Republicans don't want companies to use ESG, even though having more investment options and information to guide financial decisions is a good thing. Her Republican counterpart seems to only understand "ESG = Bad." They don't understand the reasoning behind that stance; the evidence is stacked against that stance. So why perpetuate the idea that ESG shouldn't be used? It's pure politics. With the same information and line of reasoning about what ESG is and why investors should be able to invest in ESG-dominant funds, how is it possible to reach such a wildly different conclusion? It was a waste of time and energy to discuss and televise this because there is no need for more expert information. The outcome should simply be that using ESG is encouraged. Having choices should be encouraged. Agency as an idea should be encouraged. The resources used to hold this hearing could have been better spent in many other ways to benefit everyone who lives here. Instead, we are stuck addressing Republican Party (the Party of "No") attacks on us ad nauseum.
    Ms. Porter, if you see this, do everything you can to talk about goals you'd like to achieve for the people of the United States in the short- and the long-term. Let's please stop wasting resources on changing the minds of those who don't listen to reason. It's not fair to us to let the Party of No dominate the narrative.

      @brockb3692 Sustainable business practices and critical social justice are unseperatable. Invest away, when giant investment companies force esg on the entire economy, it's not a good thing. It comes down to "toe the line, or go out of business."

    • @brockb3692
      @brockb3692 Год назад +3

      @@travissharon1536 "Unseperatable?" That's not an English word. Maybe you meant to say "inseparable?" If that's the case, then you're arguing that sustainable businesses NEED social justice because they are NOT separate from each other. I think that's actually true. Economies and good companies have to be sustainable in the long-term to be viable.
      But no investment company is going to force you to invest in DEI.

      Are you familiar with how ESG works? The long term sustainability they are aiming at, is a world without any cultural or moral discrimination.
      Funding is absolutely denied to companies that don't have good ESG scores, it is a form of ideological force.
      Would you like a world that forced you to change your values, all the while claiming that their code is the only acceptable way. Forcing rather than convincing breeds resentment.
      People have criticized the standard narrative of climate. Instead of addressing their questions and critiques people are attacked personally. Shouldn't good ideas be able to defend themselves without resorting to dishonest tactics?

    • @MD-qz1wx
      @MD-qz1wx 11 месяцев назад

      ESG being used to grant credit was not the issue of the hearing. The republicans brought the hearing because they did not want private companies to be required to devulge ESG informationto investors; and they wanted to restrict investment managers from using ESG information as part of their investment decision making.

  • @KENAJnone
    @KENAJnone Год назад +14

    The problem comes from Blackrock. They have decided to “force behavior “. If the companies do not want to do the whole ESG thing then Blackrock starts pulling investments out of the company. The rest of the investors see that and believe that there must be a problem and divest as well. Causes a real problem just because the companies don't want to go with the ESG bs.

    • @superraggazio
      @superraggazio Год назад +3

      lol thats not a problem that is a business decision. We literally have the business judgment rule in law for this exact reason. we also have derivative and direct suits, so sue. If ESG hurts the company and there is nothing there the court would look at the evidence then make a determination if the directors are operating in the best interest of the companies. its none of the governments business. It is capitalism. Its the markets choice.

    • @CapEmpire
      @CapEmpire Год назад +3

    • @catherinewilliams9680
      @catherinewilliams9680 Год назад

      If companies are influenced by the actions of Blackrock, is that Blackrock's fault? Now, if Blackrock has too much influence in the investment world, then the DOJ needs to open a Anti Sherman Trust act investigation on that idea, but not because they use ESG as a tool.

You lose social credit points for being associated with others who have low scores. ESG is ideological enforcement of the exact same nature. Everything about it is far left wing (communist) policy. You say you are poor Katie Porter. With a net worth of 1.5 million dollars, how can you say that? Maybe you aren't able to manage your finances. In which case that would disqualify you for the position you are holding in which you hold others accountable for the responsible spending of American tax dollars.

      You do know that she is a University professor correct. She needs no education from you. She’s spot on here and looking like the future Senator for California. And I don’t need to listen to her to make sound financial decisions about my investments. I’m seeing wonderful returns on my ESG, exceeding my return on fossil fuel investments (which I dumped because not only are they bad for the environment, but they weren’t making me as much return on my investment). My clean energy, sound governance, and sustainability investments saw greater returns. And again, I don’t need your propaganda. I see my returns and I can count.

      @@nanpat6762 my portfolio and our country are gonna be just fine dear, with President Biden’s economic leadership, and allies like Professor Porter holding corporate power to account. There is a reason you people hate academics like Porter, Jamie Raskin, and Barack Obama getting involved in our political system, and again, our country is actually better for it. All of these people have made more responsible public servants than anyone you’ll proclaim to support or not support. I’ll say “well, you support Trump”, you’ll claim “I don’t support him. I thought Kate was pretty good but after watching her in many hearings she really has biased ways. You can play with numbers to suit your Agenda and that's what she does. She doesn't want what best for America but is just committed to her party. I don't want anyone that is committed to their party but committed to Americans.
