I have no children, but I have zero problem with more money going towards education and childcare. Children are literally our future and I for one would prefer them educated and maybe a little less traumatized by circumstances beyond their control like poverty. As a single mother, watching Katie Porter fight so hard for all of us is so emotional. You never forget being desperate for childcare no matter your marriage status. Its scary! And all we all want is the best for our kids. I had to take my daughter into work with me in restaurant kitchens. She turned out pretty great, but I don't think walking around knives, and pizza ovens, and Bobby with two felonies was really a stepping stone of any kind for her. Yet it was the ONLY option I had. Thank you for trying Katie!
I appreciate your story and thank you for sharing. Even as a person who is blessed to have had both of my parents to raise me, I will say, they had to sacrifice quite a bit due to lack of quality & affordable childcare. Your story reminds me of my mom taking US kids with her to her 2nd or 3rd job (cleaning houses; grounds keeping) so she could earn the extra my folks needed on top of her admin professional office job & my dad's union municipal job. In fact the office job my mom had was even part time because she had to align her schedule for when we were on fall, winter, spring, and summer breaks from school. We were in childcare off and on but it was not sustainable for my folks for many reasons. My spouse and I are even more blessed that my folks have been essentially our sole source of childcare for our kids. In the 8 years we have been parents working full-time jobs, my folks have easily saved us over $93,000 for childcare in that time. So many of the parents across the nation do not have the same support from grandparents, aunties/uncles, cousins, or friends that have the time or abilities to provide childcare for free or little cost. We need to invest our time in electing more people like Katie Porter, who will then help us invest in our children and their futures. She can take her whiteboard all the way to the top as far as I'm concerned. ❤

Everyone who has kids needs childcare at some point! The fact that we still kick this around like it's some crazy idea when everyone agrees that kids need safe and appropriate care during a parents working hours is insane. I hope the next generation of parents gets everything I never had, so their kids can have even more!

Wow, that’s way more affordable than my area. Full time newborn , $2,000 a month. Either are ridiculous, it takes two incomes to survive and many go it on one income. Our countries hard working parents need this, and it’s an investment!!!!

The top 1% pay 46% of all federal income tax that is paid. Perhaps the correct answer is a system in which everyone pays something - even if only 0.5%. That might eliminate the temptation to elect tax-and-spend politicians while knowing that you will never be affected by federal income tax increases.

I had a coworker who had a baby and decided to quit her job because her entire paycheck would just go toward paying for childcare.
Unfortunately, that's a very common situation.
I loved that life for 5 years. Child support was also not able to be collected due to the deadbeat state of Texas. I wound up having to live with my father until my state finally enacted subsidized childcare after democrats took the helm.

I have a feeling she will become part of a Biden second term for some cabinet post. Then, back in her seat in 2026. She and Schiff and Lee should have settled this before the hard deadline was reached, and that might have eliminated the need for a runoff against Garvey that Schiff is going to win handily.
