I used to think this whole "flat earth" thing is just one of those Internet jokes where trolls are pretending that earth is flat, you would think this joke is only staying on Internet. Until I came to know that there are people out there who actually believe that earth is flat and conduct conferences for it from time to time. What's worse is these people even bring their children into these places and brainwashing their mind since childhood.

My thing is when she repeatedly insisted that her argument was not rooted in religion. It 100% was because she laid the foundation for her reasoning with the Bible at the beginning. My immediate question as soon as she pushed back saying religion wasn't her main driving factor, would be "Are you willing to consider that scripture may be wrong or that you are misinterpreting it?" Of COURSE she would say no...and you'd have your answer.

I was talking to a friend this evening about this very subject and he told me he had met a 'flat earther' When he was asked where he was from he replied, and I quote "oh Im not from around here, I'm from the other side of the globe" (yes guys, this was actually said by a flat earther) 😂

We do know, science says it’s an approx 25k miles earth ... they give us a calculation for that curvature too. Science says 8 inches x miles squared divided by 12inches = feet of curvature. How someone can win the world record long distance photography by capturing a shot of something that is 270 miles away is beyond science it’s a miracle! Seeing is believing! Let’s see! 8 inches X(270X270) = 583, 200 inches of curvature or divided by 12 = 48600 feet of curvature. Hmmm... was it a mirage? 🐒💨🌎🌪🍐

My Christian in laws believe the earth is flat. They live in Hawaii on the island of Kauai. One of their arguments is you can still see Niihau (a small island to the west) from the western shores of Kauai. They say if the Earth was round you shouldn’t be able to see it. When I was visiting I went to investigate.
In reality, you can only see the upper portion of Niihau, which satisfies the round earth prediction. What they had failed to realize was that Niihau is roughly 1100’ tall. If the earth was flat, you would not only be able to see Niihau’s shore, but the island would appear taller from that vantage. Not only was the shore NOT visible, but my back of the napkin estimate was that only roughly the top 40% of the island was visible based on how it appears from the west up close. This was very consistent with mainstream calculations based on the curvature of the earth.
In the end, there are people who decide what is true, and there are people who discover what’s true.
I am sure they can see mount Everest from their window too.

if you listen to her reason why she became a flat earther you can clearly see that her shift in belief was deeply linked to her loss of her husband who had that "truther" mindset, she needs to believe in that idea as it helps her feel as if she is following in her dead husbands foot steps, its an emotional link for her and that's sad. she needs therapy.

The position of believing the earth is flat isn't a logical one, it's born from a lack of distrust and feelings of betrayal. It's not based on a logical conclusion from a body of evidence. Trying to debate someone with this idea with logic will never work. The only thing you can hope for is to understand why the person feels so betrayed and feels this lack of trust. There's hints of the woman's reasons in her story about her husband dying. I suspect there's trauma in the past of everyone that believes in a flat earth.
Of course it's very frustrating to come up against such an idea as flat earth, but debating it will get nowhere. It's most definitely not a logical issue.

That was a fun documentary to watch. At the end of ‘Beyond the Curve’ one guy specifically proved himself wrong on accident
There's a documentary ob Netflix about flat earthers and at the very end of it, they conduct an experiment regarding the curvature of the earth. They put two planks with holes cut in them at a certain distance from each other, and began to shine a Lazer light at two distinct heights. The flat earthers said if you could see the light at the first height and not the second height, the earth was flat. Surprise surprise, they could see the light at the second height. Their response was just a mixture of "oh wow" and "uhh...."

The sky is not always blue, it is often gray, but at night it varies from dark blue to black, and in the evening and in the morning all the colors of the rainbow. and water is not always wet, it can be solid and dry and gaseous.

The notion only becomes fathomable when a piece of your world doesn't make sense. You then seek answers for yourself. Not the internet, and not in books as such because now you're questioning everything you ever believed in, so the next step is to ask more questions find ways to prove it and seek your own answers. I'm not rich enough to to book a rocket ship. But I love to sail.
I can say that after finding out that apparently for every square mile there is roughly (just less than) an 8 inch curvature of the the surface ... water is the best place to test this. So I did.
So all I can say is move from your computer and stop being naive and ignorant and just rest for yourself. It doesn't make much sense and you'll not even ask your questions out loud coz they sound crazy...but you'll see if you bother

Vulpea Sireata a lot of times scientists speak about what they don’t know about. The amount of fields that you would have to study to no all topics is crazy.Neil Tyson is a great example. He will talk about a range of topics and be very wrong sometimes. My point is being a scientist does not make you an expert on most topics just the ones use specialize in.

Being educated by an institution where the government ultimately controls text books can teach any story they want. The difference between the scientists in this video and the flat Earth researchers are the flat Earth group is doing hands on experiments with results that don't follow the scientist definitions. You can see things in the distance that you shouldn't while the scientists keep steadfast to the "facts" they believe to be true without the open mind to truly consider anything different. Science changes all the time with new proofs that replace old truths so why is it so beyond the realm of possibility that the truth of a globe can't be replaced by the proof of a flat one?

Flat Earthers, then please explain why there are significant seasonal differences between let’s say Florida and Pennsylvania when we are both located on the Eastern seaboard, generally not that far apart and using the same heat source such as the Sun. Only a curved and tilted globe can explain seasonal changes and why in Florida we basically have sun and warm weather year round being closer to the equator but Pennsylvania only has summer 3 months of the year and yet during that warm period in Pennsylvania Florida is also experiencing summer conditions and while Pennsylvania is experiencing bitter cold and snow, Florida still has reasonably warm conditions! A flat earth would have temperatures and conditions across the United States relatively similar.
