Professor Dave Humiliates Flat Earther David Weiss (DITRH Debunked Live)

- For months now, hordes of idiots have been lurking in my comments sections, aggressively insisting that I need to debate David Weiss, because he's some kind of flat earth messiah who is undebunkable, and I should cower in the face of his might. Of course I ignored them because he is a two-bit charlatan and who cares what idiots say, but then a channel with almost 700k subscribers asked if I would debate Weiss on his channel, and I figured it might be a good way to pick up a few subscribers, and also humiliate a flat earth icon irreparably in the process. And folks, that's exactly what happened. From the moment he opened his mouth to the moment we left the stream, I took every single word he said and demonstrated in real time how David Weiss is a science illiterate moron that doesn't understand basic concepts learned in elementary school, just like every other pointless flat earth grifter. Anyone who watches this exchange and still refers to him as a credible source of information is in complete denial of reality and hopelessly unreachable. Of course that describes most flat earthers, so I'll see you dummies in the comments section complaining about what a meany mean-pants I am instead of admitting to yourself that you are completely unable to address a single thing I said in this absolutely airtight, relentless destruction of a toxic influence on society. Toodles!

Hey you! Yes you there, the thousandth person coming down here in a hissy fit to tell me how mean and nasty and unprofessional I was to that poor, poor, ignorant flat earther. Stop. You have zero perspective on this situation. Weiss is a con man who lies for a living. He knows he's wrong, he just spews a script of lies to make money on the internet. Politeness is a window to gish gallop and spread more lies, and you can clearly see how angry he got when I pinned him on every lie in his script, pressing him to respond to things he knew he couldn't respond to. He does not deserve respect. He does not deserve decency. He deserves annihilation. He deserves public humiliation. His remaining followers are impervious to facts and logic, so the only thing that works is a demonstration of what a sniveling, lying, pathetic little toddler he is. Also, no, he was not polite. The first words out of his mouth were to slander me regarding the content on my channel, and all he did was call me a "dick" every time I proved him wrong. He's a douchebag. And guess what? Even if he wasn't a con man he still should be treated this way, because politeness toward this "issue" would give the illusion of two "opinions" with equal footing. There aren't. The earth is objectively a sphere, as we've known for thousands of years, and anyone who says otherwise is actively calling all of science a lie, and literally all scientists liars. That's insanely offensive. This is how you deal with flat earth con men. Get on board or get out of the way. Got it?
Exactly this! Well said!

In my experience it's a lot easier to convince someone of something if I don't refer to them as subhuman vermin. I wholeheartedly believe that this guy deserved everything you gave to him, but I disagree with the general sentiment that politeness toward a person you have a disagreement with gives weight to their argument. You can unwaveringly insist that someone is blatantly wrong about something without insulting them.
One more time to be absolutely clear though: Fuck FlatEarthDave
You could convince more people if you didn’t interrupt him and literally gaslight him into thinking he’s interrupting and changing subjects when it’s really you who never even acknowledges or understands his “stupid” point of view. You’re debunking what you THInK he’s saying and but it’s not what he’s saying half the time. Your Neil deGrasse Tyson tactics look better on his rude ass, with the actual TACT of patience and understanding the subject he’s trying to insult. Grow up and gain a perspective. You don’t really know Jack till you start acknowledging u don’t know everything about everything and everyOnE. We share this damn egg-shaped planet, and you’re a huge socially crippling, emotionally crippled, toxic douche of a human. Big words. You manipulate people to stoop to your level. the fact that he literally knows everything to counter his arguments without notes, yet the other guy was probably running off a script which Dave didn’t see before just shows irrefutably how much more evidence there is for a globe than flat.
I’m a retired professor of medieval lit and history, and the person claiming that people in the Middle Ages believed the earth is flat - NO. There are references to the earth as a globe everywhere including The Canterbury Tales and medieval manuscript illustration, which I have seen... Also, the Greeks had already proven the earth is a sphere centuries earlier. The nonsense about the medievals believing in a flat earth was never a “thing” until the 18th and 19th centuries as part of Protestant backlash against Catholicism - they made up nonsense to argue that medieval Catholics were stupid. Sadly there seem to be a few stragglers living in 2024 are now taking all of this seriously. Sad.

The sad truth of human stupidity
the flat earth dummy didn't know about the new moon tides 🤦♂️
It was really funny... I've been an astronomy nerd for a long time and it felt satisfying.
And then the guy would sometimes repeat the same question but in different words "how did this thing happen if our world is not flat"
And Dave responds with, "I just explained that"
My favourite is flat earth Dave's insistence on an explanation for the sun orbiting the earth in order for the Eratosthenes experiment to have validity. It's an experiment in and about _geometry,_ and the geometry is valid provided there is relative rotation, regardless of where the centre of rotation is. If you think about it, it's only really once people started understanding gravity and its consequences that they had a way of distinguishing between geocentric and heliocentric models.
I'm convinced the majority of flat earthers don't actually believe it's flat but just want to believe that some evil world government is lying to them.
They just want a niche where they feel important and useful. Same as Karate mind energy gurus and Horoscopes
What's funny is that the actual government is already evil enough.
@@PhonkEchothat's what I thought. But I have a couple friends, lovely people, lovely children, far better at adulting than myself. One day, seemingly randomly, we were quizzed on what shape the earth was. My girlfriend said a globe, and I said, instinctively, "well it's obviously not f***ing flat, is it!?". The response I got surprised me, when one of them replied to say (and trust me, this is a direct quote that is seared into my mind) "I don't think anyone knows what shape it is", while the other (highly nonconfrontational) friend walked off into another room. The subject got instantly changed! Love those guys, but that has unfortunately left us questioning them somewhat!
I don't think you're far off, but flip it around. They're convinced the government can't be trusted, at all. They're convinced what it does and says is a conspiracy. So anything coming from it is poisoned. So when it claims the earth is round that alone makes the concept of roundness suspect. Because why would such a corrupt entity focus so hard on convincing everyone it's round. Then they enter into every discussion with the decision already made that it's flat. Everything goes downhill from there.
I'm on the fence about DITRH/Dave Weiss on this point. The guy comes across like a village idiot. But he's also gotten quasi-famous from this and has monetized it with a subscription-based app. So I don't know if he actually believes it or knows it's BS but is in too deep now and making money. There's no doubt he'd lose his vaunted community status and a ton of money if he admitted Earth is round.

This whole debate :
- Here is math and science. People do it, and replicate it every day. We can do it together!
- Nuh uh, thats stupid. I dont believe that and I dont like that, but this next point here...
Honestly, at the point FE Dave said "No I want to move on to something else" in response to Dave saying "Would you like to respond to the refutation of the point that YOU brought up, about not understanding how objects further away exert less gravitational force on other objects," I would have just quit there. There is no way for this to be a productive conversation.
"Oh your model believes this so this doesn't make sense."
"Uhm no actually we believe this and this is how it works."
"Yeah well here's this other thing..."
"I'm sorry do you want to take back what you said or in some way show your growth in understanding of my position or at least acknowledge that you represented my position incorrectly?"
"No because I have other points."
Waste of fuffing time.
Yes, it's a distract tactic. In a true debate, you would refute with counterpoints, but the flat earther doesn't have counterpoints. Except at the very end where he wanted to fight about the seasons. But I have to wonder... how do flat earthers explain the seasons? I think he was insinuating that the sun gets closer to the flat earth XD I'm dying from laughter. And yes the Earth orbits the sun closer at times, and it does have SOME impact, it's what is called solar minimum and maximum, but not like the seasons. Humans have been documenting the Earth's tilt, the solstices particularly for ages...
This was total waste of time. I can not respect anything someone so immature and arrogantly rude says no matter how educated they are. Proof, present proof. NASA itself says they do all testing over a flat plane. Earth isn't a flat plane so why do they do that? I want to know why 56 years ago NASA could use a land line to talk to the men on moon 238,856 miles away, but 56 years later my phone can't keep a signal across town. Bring back that technology please! Why do airlines use the flight paths they use? Wish they would just go do their own experiments & film proof and put these lies to rest.
@@tinaregeneratedlady3476 Mmh couple of things.
- Where does NASA say that?
- In terms of radio waves:
1. NASA doesn't make Iphones
2. Compare the audio quality you have now to the audio quality of Neil's "One small step for man" speech. You'll probably realize you've taken for granted the notion that you get to talk to people thousands of miles away like they're right next to you.
3. Phone drops are more a product of phone service which is limited due to competing businesses buying up airwaves in specific areas. Whereas phones have to work in multiple locations, the radio signal for the moon landing only had to be focused to one area.
- Airlines use the flight paths they use because those are the flight paths that are most fiscally efficient while still offering a viable service. Those airlines aren't just carrying you, they're also carrying mail, packages, and other people. The flight path YOU might deem most efficient is not the same as the one a business would deem most efficient. IE. most profit for the least input. The more a business gets people and packages to where they are going, the more profit they make, and that's all they care about. Sometimes that aligns with your ideas of efficiency, and sometimes it doesn't.
- Lastly, plenty of films have been made, and every time it's the same excuse. "This is edited." "Fake footage" etc. At what point are we to accept that some people will just deny what they're looking at with their own eyes for the sake of preserving what they already believe?
"people live at the south pole?"
"yeah"
"prove it"
THIS PART REALLY GOT ME
He could literally fly to the South Pole, which would take about 24 hours, and see the people there with his own eyes. In other words, he could have completely disproved himself, aka proved the existence of people in the South Pole, in less than 24 hours from the time this podcast was recorded, then return 48 hours later for part two of this podcast (of a two-part series) in which he would have to admit that he was wrong. IT WOULD TAKE LESS THAN 48 HOURS ROUND TRIP.

@@bearoperator5490 and that's why Dave didn't use the south pole but the southern parts of Argentina as his example. You can just _drive_ there by yourself. Literally _no_ dependency on any third party.
There you can experience 17 hour days for yourself. Or you can look to the south to see the Southern Cross, while talking on the phone to your FE buddy in South Africa (only 6 hours ahead) if he can also see it in the south.
Heck, for the issue of impossibly long days in the southern summer you don't even have to go that far: the FE model breaks down _noticeably_ far sooner. Days in the south should _always_ be shorter than days in the north, because of simple geometry (larger radius = larger diameter of the sun's path; but still only 24 hours to cover it = sun has to move quicker = days are shorter).

Every religious Flat earther's method to morph that into "I'm right, next question"
It's very simple method of manipulation if you can't answer question that debunks your logic, you just change topic and bring another point in hope person you are talking to won't have answer, and if they by any chance don't you just call it victory. For most people it would work because most people don't study astrology, but if you are talking to a person that have enough knowledge to debunk every point you make you just try to bring another point until debate is over and you can just say we don't have enough time so he couldn't debunk all my lies therefore there's no winner.

I believe the problem with the flat Earth proponent, around the 59-minute mark, is that he fails to grasp the immense size of the Sun. While it may appear similar in size to the Moon during an eclipse, it is actually 1 astronomical unit (AU) away from Earth (obvs). The Sun is incredibly massive. For simplicity, I often envision its diameter as a hundredth of an AU. I find it fascinating how the distances to planets in AU are so easy to remember: 0.4, 0.7, 1, 1.5, 5, 10, 20, 30. Just remembering that, along with the fact that 1 AU is approximately 93 million miles, allows you to know all the distances for pub quizzes and impressing your friends.
To be fair, he fails to grasp basically anything

I used to work with a guy who is a flat earther. I never dismiss someone's beliefs out of hand without giving them serious thought and consideration. For that reason, I bought this book: 100 Proofs Earth is Not a Globe. I honestly believed and expected it to contain well written, thought provoking proofs.
However, the vast majority of the proofs were of a form similar to this: [statement that clearly demonstrates a lack of understanding of an area of science] followed by, therefore the earth is not a globe. A good deal of the others were simple personal incredulity: I can't believe that, therefore that's not true, therefore the earth is not a globe.
I had several discussions with this co-worker. I even created a diagram based on the flat earth model to demonstrate that what we see does not agree with the flat earth model. What I learned from these discussions is that science is wrong, math is wrong, geometry is a lie.
What I eventually realized was that flat earth is a religious belief and like all religious beliefs it does not require scientific proof. For that reason, providing scientific proof that counters the flat earth model falls on deaf ears.
In for a penny in for a pound as they say 😉
I wonder if it's better to use their arguments against themselves, like why do you believe this to be like this? What made you believe this is the way that it is? Why would everybody be lying to you? Basically just play out the entire scenario for them... As it mostly debunks itself
@James Bruce I have asked them why would everyone be lying to you. Why keep up with a worldwide conspiracy that involves every scientist, all teaching of science and go out of the way to adapt science and mathematical equations for systems that are based on the world being a sphere to keep up with this lie. It's how we all learn and grow. If we can't question things it's proof that we are dealing with propaganda and LIES.
