Hey Goodhumans! This was one of the most requested episodes we’ve had. It was also one of the toughest to tackle for our team, but deeply illuminating for us as well. We hope the same for you. Here at Jubilee, we believe in the value of open & honest discussions in order to pave a path towards empathy and develop a better understanding of people with different perspectives. Capturing the complexity and deeper nuances of a topic in a short period is incredibly difficult. However, we hope this discussion can inspire you to dive deeper and spark your own conversations. We’d love to be a part of it and hear your own insights below, so please share 🙂
I do like your videos but tbh this one let the skeptics get away with a bit too much misinformation. Maybe fact checking on screen would be good? I know you all want to stay neutral but staying neutral and staying in the middle are two different things, when one side is far to one aisle than staying in the middle would not be neutral
Or not having the money to have fresh drinking water while some old man demands to water his lawn with fresh water. Or not having the money to eat fresh produce because the meat industry has destroyed too much of the farming ground. Or forest fires destroys entire states and takes peoples entire lives from them. Definitely feels like watering a lawn isnt that important
@Artificial Sweetener Its not about predicting the future, its about acknowledging how climate has changed over the years, identifying the causes and effects of it and trying to prevent it from having devastating repercussions. I expect a climate scientist to know more about climate than someone who claims to "know a lot of them". Climate scientists dont just study the weather.
C.D. Collins A climate scientist IS a REAL SCIENTIST who studies the climate and other things that come with it. The video is not about debating anyone. Its about sharing views and finding a MIDDLE GROUND. They werent debating each other. The climate scientist just stated facts that he has studied for a long time while the other person was talking about things that she was clearly not familiar with.
Small suggestion: Start doing Jubilee video's with people from all around the world, not only Americans. That would really show all kinds of perspectives throughout the world. I understand the quality of the video's would go down as not everyone can speak as fluently as natives but it would really add another layer of depth to see and hear the opinions of people on other parts of the globe :)
Very well said! I love these videos, but I very often feel alienated because they seem to be based on the wrongful assumption that the US represents the world.
Would be interesting to include a few videos featuring Europeans as views would be very different in the different regions (Northern Europe, British Isles, Mediterraneann, Former Yugoslavian states etc. )
Activist:“My dad was very angry about losing money bc of regulations...” Skeptics:*nod* A:“...but it was much more beneficial in the long term.” S:“Wait”
God the old lady pissed me off. "Yea you studied this for all your life, but i spoke to someone in the field once so im right". Reminds me of anti vax moms who get all their info from Facebook articles
@Cece Ruben Has your husband been in the business for 40 years and doesn't have 50 grand to show for it? That's putting less than 2,000 in saving a year. I'm a poor working college student and I can do that. Considering the guys business was suppose to be successful he should have been able to afford a new truck. And a quick search on google revealed that converting a diesel truck can cost as little as $8000.
The fact that someone will sit across from another person who has studied, put their life into gathering factual data and information and say “well I know a lot of climate scientists and they say that’s not real” is immensely sad to me. People that will use their thought of “freedom” as a way to discredit all evidence and facts is alarming and ignorant. When will people start listening to the earth and stop listening to the media full of people who don’t know how to do basic math.
What if they were studying something non-credible? You could spend your whole life taking the bible literal word for word and not think it was only meant to be interpretted.
Twistie Man Because there is scientific proof that we are destroying the earth. Unlike the Bible where it has been re-written hundreds of times to fit that specific persons interests. Science and facts do not lie, and if you don’t believe facts then I don’t know what to tell you.
She was very ignorant, it's like she does not acknowledge the guy as an actual climate scientist just because "a lot of climate scientists" that she somehow knows (probably a lie) deny climate change.
I'm not saying climate change isn't real but you shouldn't believe scientists are right because they're scientists. Man kind has been wrong about many things since the beginning of time, dont judge people for being skeptical even if it is some what misguided. And most of them are concerned with the environment, but they're also terrified of getting left behind in the race and China taking over the international landscape and becoming an even stronger economic powerhouse.... As they should be. So all I'm saying is dont harshly judge people for being skeptical. Making it seem as if you feel superior to someone else due to their belief will never change their mind. If you truly care about protecting the environment. Then Spread the word through peaceful and calm dialect using strong points with proof and statistics behind them
The list of 1000 'scientists' she referenced is a total con, just like the Prof said. I've seen it, virtually none of them have published research on the topic, & those that have are usually linked to the fossil fuel industry or have been disowned by their institutions.
Blonde lady: "an eco-friendly lifestyle is so expensive, take my lifestyle as an example..." Anybody with common sense: "are you living an eco-friendly lifestyle though?" Blonde Lady : "no"
Actually eco friendly life much cheaper. You can save money by minimizing beef, pork and chicken. by walking biking and using public transportation rather than buying a car and spending for fuel. by installing solar panels which only takes 8 years to pay off and after that 16-20 in some cases 30 years of free electricity. by using induction cook tops instead of gas cookers. by using heat pumps instead gas furnace.
A debate cannot be had when one side says the other doesn't accept basic reality. There's no "basic reality" with climate change. It's a slippery slope with the consequences being unknown. There's legitimate statistics pointing to the end of humanity within a few centuries, and there's legitimate statistics showing it will have little consequence. Don't boil this down to being "simple" when its really not.
@@demetter7936 it’s not simple by any means but it’s still an issue that we as humanity have a power to change in small acts within our community. I’m pretty sure everyone with the knowledge of basic 7th grade science understands that climate change IS affecting the world in a negative way. We don’t know the outcome if we don’t do anything about it 100% but we WILL understand the outcome if we actually do something about it like normalizing recycling in every day homes around the world and actually caring about our surroundings. Time will only tell.
@@roxanne_ You have the brainpower of an infantile animal if you seriously think "we can help change the entire planets weather if we just work together with the power of friendship guys :DDD"
The EPA did, the ever more popular idea among the elites that we need to have carbon taxes is very political. The lack of choice and say how we tackle the problem is a freedom issue, which is inherently political. It's been political since day 1.
I would love a Europeans vs. Americans episode (asking for example about gun control, health expensive, freedom of being yourself, etc.) Edit: since a lot of people are saying the same thing and I'm getting tired of replying I'm just going to say it here. I KNOW Europe is not made by just one culture -btw, same thing goes for America which is not just USA- and this is the EXACT reason why I would love and episode like that
FRU FRU FRU FRU FRU FRU yeah I’m being sarcastic. I don’t agree with anything Keith says and I think that he is misinterpreting the constitution by the way he expresses his opinions.
"The United States is held more responsible", well yes, it was the ONLY country who came out of the Paris treaty which was a small step towards addressing the issue, not Russia, not China, US!
Yeah but Russia's only income is made by selling gas - and Russia has Methan under it's ice, which is melting right now and Methan is way, WAY worse than CO2. And China...guess what. They are the worst country for pollution. Right now they are on par with the US for CO2 emission, but they have three times the population, so in the future it will be three times the pollution. And then there is Brazil, which chops down their rain forest for money and India, which is just another China. Oh it's not looking good for this planet.
@@mistermarcus4281 China probably has such a massive pollution rate because of American's infantile need for cheap and frivolous goods and corporations need for factory slaves.

People always complain about the emissions from China, but no one ever thinks twice about all the factories that us westerners have built over there to save money. We ALL have an individual responsibility to do what ever we can as people to reduce our carbon footprint.
Honestly!! If people weren’t consuming so much and building demand for more products then outsourcing manufacturing in China wouldn’t be causing so much pollution. Smh these people don’t think
I find it a bit selfish on how skeptics feel suppressed by the fact that they have to start making better choices because of climate change and don't think twice of how we are also affecting different species that also have the right to live in a sustainable world.
Exactly 💯 They treated the question, “I know someone who has been affected by climate regulations” as an all bad negative thing. Like do they know that the food and water they’ll eat and drink will be covered in Salmonella and E.coli without regulations.
@@leonardu6094 Yes, the propaganda "Please stop destroying the earth! We live here. Our lives are at stake! I've studied my whole life about the effects of human interaction." who the hell water loans? I think I've never seen it be more popular other than in America. I mean, I don't want to seem too aggressive, but It's just a waste of water in my opinion... There are some cases where you might want to do it, but I see that on most cases is just to have "pretty grass". you don't need to have the greenest lawn in the neighbourhood, that's just a waste for your own ego. we already have a huge use of water for golf fields and an excessive meat production (fields of food to feed animals). I think that that is plenty enough. We are the biggest consumers of meat and the biggest owner of running water. WE have the responsibility to preserve our resources. Also, I want to point out that if water was infinite, than I'd have nothing against wasting tons of it. But water is not in abundance and I think we need to give it some more respect and importance.
California recently passed laws that will prohibit the amount of water can used per household. It was somewhere around 25 gallon limit per day. Or there would excessive fines for going over. At the same time, specific neighborhoods, the homes of politicians were written out of that same law. Laws for thee, not for me.
Chrone Nojysk California has the one of the highest GDPs of anywhere in the world, so that probably would not have a positive effect on our global economy.
@@kaedjo6904 okay tell us your detailed explanation of why california had a drought a while back then. Nobodys saying were literally running out of water, we just have our filtration system setup in a way that makes us have shortages unless we think of more expensive, economy-destroying ways to keep the water flow going securely. You replying like this shows that you only thought intuitively about the water cycle and because of that refused to do any research on how we humans actually get clean water
Yeah, I think it’s fair to assume that living in this country means we should all be afforded access to clean water needed for survival and quality of life, and I don’t think lawn watering falls under that. Since he’s so big on choice maybe he should CHOOSE to move to the country where he can dig a well and use that water however he likes 🤷🏻♀️ lol (Before someone comes for me, I’m using sarcasm to make a point. I know just picking up and moving locations isn’t an option for many people)
I believe in global warming, but I still disagree that it should be the number 1 concern. Number one is homelessness. 2nd is stop increasing the housing prices. 3rd is global warming.
@Patriot Biden can print money to oblivion and implement every dem agenda and it still wouldn’t be socialism. Socialism has nothing to do with that and everything to do with whether or not workers control the means of production
OKAY. Keith said that we have a “natural right” to water. Umm, no sir. We have a PRIVILEGE to water. As Americans we are PRIVILEGED to get clean drinking water. Meanwhile there are other human beings in 3rd World countries that are lucky enough if they even get one SIP of water that isn’t full of bacteria or dirt or silt.
So are you saying we should make those countries meet certain standards on climate protection. Many countries are still practically in their industrial era. Imagine taking fossil fuels away from them, they dont have the money to afford solar, nuclear, or wind power. If it's hard for them to get water, Taking economical opportunities away from them sure as hell wont help them get it
"As a man who has personally been profiting from the fear mongering associated with "climate science" please don't disrupt my narrative." God you people are actually braindead.
I live in Belgium and there have currently been catastrophic inundations because of climate change. Homes were destroyed, villages were underwater, people drowed, people died. Even though all of this happened nowhere near where I lived, some children in my school did. While I was having the best holiday in spain, I got emailed by the school. While a student was in summer camp, she fell into the river, she was swept away by the current of the river and found by a farmer, dead in a field, far away from where she was last seen. She was only 14. And I am now watching a pair of old people gambling on and on about how none of this is true, that this extremely brutal climate change is just natural? They are the generation who started to destroy our earth, and they are still shamelessly continuing to do so. While they have fulfilled there "destiny" and lived there life, because of their ignorance and their selfishness, young people pay the priceof their actions, the future of humanity is dying. And I'm beginning to think, maybe a world without humanity would be a better world.
Honestly Nicole With this much chaos plus my ADHD plus depression I so needed compassion and thought of coming to Belgium for Assisted Euthanasia But funny thing is Even if a human being wants to end their life gracefully and also in an altruistic pursuit of not burdening the already dying planet Still they make it impossible with unnecessary sanctions and crazy expensive fees !! 😢
Have there ever been catastrophic inundations before? There have. And will be again regardless of mankind. The only solution to stop it might be total control of the weather, and we are nowhere near knowing how, or what the consequences of an attempt to do so might be.
Anyone else concerned by the statement, "Vice President of a non profit concerned about threats to western civilization"? What kind of non profit is that?
@@ohood4863 No not at all. But if you were concerned with non arabs ruining arab culture and wanting to keep them out, I'd be pretty suspicious. It's been the rhetoric of the KKK since it was formed.
Just because there are other countries polluting the earth doesn’t mean that our reduction of waste won’t help. It’ll be one less major country killing the earth and leading in example (edit: I fixed a typo)
Jin Bang Exactly. I agree the major reason to start is to lead by example. Trump signing out of the Paris accord was one of the worst things he could’ve done for climate change. It shows other large countries “hey if we don’t want to play by the rules you don’t have to either!” - which is completely irresponsible. How can we expect China to create reduce emissions if the United States is also doing nothing to reduce theirs?
We need to start getting away from this nationalistic perspective of “oh I’m an American I’m not contributing as much as the Chinese”. We need to start thinking about how we are ALL citizens of this wonderful planet we call earth. We are all humans, American, Chinese, Indian, whatever... we are humans first. And once we start thinking about our commonalities and separating our differences... real change will get done.
Plus the fact that America is *really* bad when it comes to this. America emits more than India, more than the entire EU combined. China has five times the population but barely pollutes at twice the rate, per capita China isn’t that bad while the US is the worst developed country by far. 15% of emissions are from America, I’d say that’s big enough to make a change.
Climate regulation is a facade to try to pass more authoritarian and socialist policies through until the state has full control using fear as blackmail.
Politicians lie all the time. Mainstream Media lie all the time, whether it's cable, newspaper, internet. We can debunk Politicians and MSM lies cause we can do our independent researchs, something we can't do with climate change. They control the narrative. 0.8 degrees Celsius/1.4 degrees Fahrenheit in difference in the last 140 years is alarming.
@@finisadestrerum9852 nope, they are intrinsically correlated. Change a dime in the oceanic environment and you change the entire climatic dynamic of the world.
Idk even how people think this. After the industrial revolution, you can see how the CO2 levels are just rising and rising, and how the temperature follows a similar, almost exact path.
@foop some climate “skeptics” say the CO2 lagged the temperature the past 1 million years. But that was due to orbital cycles and CO2 caused the 2nd warming. And the current warming is definitely human caused. But people don’t want to see that.
YEEES, for the first time in a long time seasons feel normal, winter is cold and it's SNOWING in my country, and autumn was normal and good ! It's usually hot even during winter here, it hasn't snowed it a long time !

Same. I’m an international student and have lived in 3 countries, 3 years in the US and I still can not believe how people just did not care over there. They valued money and cared about themselves only. How sad
Keith entered the wrong debate. He was asked to participate in a climate change debate but everyone one of his inputs was him just going on a tangent about the American constitution.
I would've just said the truth, which is America changing wont change our pollution. Because of other countries ignorance. We should look to the stars and move to a different planet

Mags Campbell these skeptics are the most selfish people i have ever seen in my entire life. never have i seen someone so disgustingly concerned about them self and no one else and it’s horrifying that people could think that way
not even individual future, only their individual present. they're basically saying 'i grew up with a green lawn in the desert, and by god the whole world can burn to hell before i give up that green lawn."
Too bad "saving" the planet in your words means listening to the lying politicians about climate change so they can hold power while the average person suffers from the unnecessary costs.
The one guy was like "Im an actual environmental scientist" , and the blonde chick tried to combat his factual experience with anecdotal "evidence". Lmao WHAT?
Seriously!! Why did she even try to argue? She said she knew some scientists but I very much doubt they’d say that climate change isn’t being powered by humans.
The main three points skeptics rely on: 1. China 2. The money 3. Our Constitution Smh no wonder why our environment is going down the drain..there is way too much greed🤦♀️
Alexia Gonzalez ikr they are basically saying “we have to keep the USA going to get money and to satisfy ourselves.” If we ban certain things like large amounts of factories producing pollution we will have a decrease in jobs. (Loosing people, money, etc) We have to do better; not just ban things. Little things help but it will help greatly in the future. For example, banning plastic bags or common plastic items (or reducing selling amounts which will make someone very upset). Someone has to take the hits for protecting our earth... which is us because we are all so selfish.
For sure. That one woman was all saying how she had no say in her state but I don't think she realizes how much say she has compared to literally every other country. There are too many people who would rather throw out the entire earth than make their lives more eco friendly. And that's sad that they are able to have the choice to ruin billions of people's lives or try to save them.
All by design due to poor casting of the opposition skeptic side and heavy editing to lead all views to believe that the activists have a better argument. You have been manipulated once again like most these other comments.
@@ellamasters300 and doesn't back it up with anything. Where is this letter signed by all these environmental scientists? How come an actual scientist who studies this never heard of it? Just comes off as something she heard on Alex Jones..
"Why should we do something, when China is worse than us" This mindset is extremely childish and basic. Just because someone else is "worse than us" doesn't grant us the right to completely disregard climate change. As a country the U.S. has many resources and the largest economy. It is our responsibility to do what's in our power to help our world.
When I was younger my parents were always telling me to compare myself to the "best" rather than to the worst or you'll never improve. It's funny how they don't seem to get this basic notion.
In a way we are also partially responsible for China's emissions. We outsource a TON of our cheap production needs to China, and only care when the smog is carried by wind patterns to the West Coast...
Funny how china is doing a lot of investing in renewable energy and they probably produce the most start up companies for electric vehicles. That is because china doesn't have all these regulations that U.S. has when it comes to technology. Plus I love how U.S. complains about China, yet U.S. produce a lot of waste compared to a country that has 5x the population number and is 2nd in global economy. And did people forget, China is producing a lot of waste primarily from factories, factories that make things for U.S. consumers
Are they wrong though? No. They believe in climate change, they just dont think the way people are going about fixing it is best. America cant fix the problems earth has, every country does, and you know what that means? More taxes for Americans because what i said earlier about "America cant fix the problems..." is wrong. We can, we just have to pay the other countries a lot of money to be able to, and then hope that they actually do and dont just take the money.
Based on my observation, i think the winner of this debate is from the activist who have given facts and viable solutions in their statements while the skeptics have their feelings to use as their main argument
I'm only 22 seconds into the video, but I can already say: do you want to be able to breathe on this planet freely and live the life we wish to live? Then yes, sometimes you have to do things you might not want to do, which is trying to protect our planet. If we go on like this and give people the choice whether to try to help our planet or not despite thinking "eh future generations might not have a healthy planet like that but hey, I don't want to do this because it's too much work and there's no chance in my lifetime it could result into something worse", we're not going to have something sustainable for future generations. Come on people.
Just Another Bot not really it’s either you know you’re material enough to have an actually debate about it or you don’t . It’s really hard to rebuttal someone who has dedicated their life to a specific study and is well educated on the subject when you get your information from made up sources that are not credible .
@Just Another Bot I mean its probably difficult to find a person with a degree/profession relating to climate change skepticism. I'm not sure if its just me but where I live, no educational institution offers courses such as that.
That claim of hers is really suspicious, I don't believe what she said. It's so obvious humans have been highly responsible for the drastic climate change that is happening today.
@Connor Shae So if someone lives with their overweight, diabetic family then they should be overweight and diabetic as well if she isn't changing? Because that's what I heard. Not saying it doesn't happen, but that's literally just an excuse.
I would love to see an updated version of this video, considering the fact that things have become more dire. I wonder if any of the skeptics have changed their minds?
He is definitely wrong. No climate prediction has come true. No disaster has happened. Climate change is real but I don’t believe humans have any bearing on it. Of course our earth is going to warm during that time climate change is real but I don’t believe humans have any bearing on it, considering we just got out of an Ice Age couple decades ago. Of course our earth is going to warm during that time
the more you try to refute the climate scientist with your own unfounded BELIEFS and CLAIMS, the more embarrassed i am for you. you sound so confident, but it's just outright ignorance. The scariest part about discussions like this is when a side is so sure they’re correct, they refuse to listen to any logic or facts from the other side. Imagine being so unwilling to learn because it would harm your precious ego? Edit: I believe in climate change just to avoid confusion.
Hannah Rose i understand what you’re saying, but personally i feel like this is a slightly different situation since it has been scientifically proven that climate change is real so technically the activists are correct haha
What Katie said is correct. One is factually correct and the other side is only there because they’ve been given a voice and are selfish. Both sides are unwilling to “learn,” but we focus on the deniers because they’re so wrong. You couldn’t convince the activists either, but they still have the correct point of view.

Actions that US has been leading the charge in for well over 60 years. @** x and how much more time do you think we have left bacause from what i heard for the past 13 years is changing from day to day it was 12 years a go then it is in 12 years
According to the IPCC report which was published in October 2018 we only have 12 years left to limit the climate change catastrophe. Our goal now is to keep it at a max of a 1.5 C temperature rise. The world is currently 1C warmer than preindustrial levels and if we don’t change, we‘re going straight to the >2 C temperature rise which will have enormous effects on life on planet. At 2C extremely hot days, such as those experienced in the northern hemisphere this summer, would become more severe and common, increasing heat-related deaths and causing more forest fires. But the greatest difference would be to nature. Insects, which are vital for pollination of crops, and plants are almost twice as likely to lose half their habitat at 2C compared with 1.5C. Sea-level rise would affect 10 million more people by 2100 if the half-degree extra warming brought a forecast 10cm additional pressure on coastlines. No, the world will not end if we don’t make it in those 12 years. BUT urgent changes are needed to cut risk of extreme heat, drought, floods and poverty. Because our all lives will change for the worse when we reach the +2C stage.

Rim pak so what just be selfish? This isn’t a country problem. This is a world problem. The US has a big impact, we aren’t as environmentally friendly as one may think. If we find solutions other countries may follow. China has already made strides bc the issues have gotten so badly. China is a big factor but if we figure in the population, the US is one of the highest users of carbon emissions per person in the world. China having 4.58 per person and US having 19.78 per person to put it in perspective. Are you just gonna blame China when we are all dying bc we killed our own Earth.
@@christophedobbels8877 That's my point. But how do you achieve that ? How do you convince other countries to follow your lead on this ? It's almost impossible.

Right?? It is just pushing the blame on other countries instead of acknowledging that USA is way more major than most countries.

"Why should we do something, when China is worse than us"
This mindset is extremely childish and basic.
And did people forget, China is producing a lot of waste primarily from factories, factories that make things for U.S. consumers

Well.. You can have both. Do you have a cellular device? do you drive a car? do you eat bananas that are imported to your country? Stfu. you are on the internet so you are the problem.
