Never before in human history have we been richer, more advanced or powerful. And yet we feel overwhelmed in the face of rapid climate change. It seems simple on the surface. Greenhouse gases trap energy from the Sun and transfer it to our atmosphere. This leads to warmer winters, harsher summers. Dry places become drier and wet places wetter. Countless ecosystems will die while the rising oceans swallow coasts and the cities we build on them.
So why don’t we just like… prevent all of that? Well, it’s complicated.

I work in the concrete repair industry in the DC metro area and one of the things that DC has implemented is a requirement that 50% of all concrete waste from demolition is recycled. At first we thought this was going to be a huge financial impact but it turned out to be cheaper to recycle rather than send it as trash. Now we recycle more than our minimum because it’s cheaper to do so. Incentivizing really does work!
Edit: I forgot to clarify, DC subsidizes the recycling of concrete to incentivize companies to use the service more than required and is part of the reason why it ended up being cheaper.

This is probably the BEST video about climate change and carbon emission, not only in the channel, but in the entire internet. I have to admit, the last time you guys talk about climate change you didin't touch the topic of the "carbon footprint TM" and I admit I was kind of pissed about. All the propaganda (because it was) about the topic in 2019-2022 focused on how the change was responsibility of the individual and honestly, I was tired of it, unable to bring myself to the idea that somehow we as individuals had that ammount of power in the matter and angry about the tale that developed countries had about the issue.
Why we, a developing country in the prime, should worry to fix a problem the great powers are telling us to do, when the enriched themselves by the same behavior they are telling us to stop? F*** Thunsberg! we are dying from starvation! we have no time for your 1st world problems!... that was my entire opinion. we never had seen an Electric vehicle in our entire lives, because nobody here has the money to buy it.
Now I see with more clarity, and this video made me realize, OK, maybe I can contribute, not because its somehow my responsibility but because I can actually do a little part, and that could be enough. Asking for better policies, and voting for better people in the country, but also buy less bottle watter, and truning of lights.
And probably, we are not doomed as species, as I used to think

It always seems as though change for the good of the less affluent necessitates resistance, aggression, and overthrowing. The ballotbox only works as far as those above us allow it to. And yet climate change isn't. The dinosaurs were around for close to two hundred million years. They were clearly fine with global mean temperatures 10°C higher than today (CO2 levels were 3-4 times higher back then). Burning ALL the fossil fuels in the ground would raise current temperatures by roughly 10°C. If the dinos can survive it, I'm confident we can too. And we have air conditioning.

Funny is, that during the time the EU CO2 trace has not decrease! Different countries have different approaches to the climate, there is no united global effort, never was never will be, only thing that can help are new technologies, but for that we need functional economies that are not choked down by central restrictions

Although "a single person's entire life can only amount to 1 second less of global industries' harm," voting and direct political activism is not the crucial alternative in my opinion, because politicians, at least in America, no longer prioritize public opinion. Most of them prioritize lobbyists and donors, so while your recycling bin may not make a big difference, the biggest difference an American can make probably IS at the personal responsibility level- what they purchase. I would argue that simply voting with your wallet, and sending your money only to ethical companies/industries is the most effective way for Americans to start changing our political will to action, and that our dollars, which make the "bad guys" powerful in the first place, make more of an impact than our votes, which we cast only a handful of times in our life, for a limited selection of nominees who are sometimes just the lesser of evils.

Something I’d say would be very good. Would be better, and also more advanced public transportation. It would make you more likely to take it instead of your car. Or making more cities with better mapping so you can ride a bike or walk everywhere without taking an hour. I’m not a professional, but I just think this would work.

Something that I feel like isn't addressed when talking about agriculture and reducing emissions is that 1/3 of the food we produce simply isn't eaten because we think it looks weird or buy too much food. I know that simply reducing food wasn't won't solve everything, but reducing food waste both reduces the emissions to produce food and gets git of pollution from that food decomposing at landfills.

Also today’s agriculture relies on feed which is not good for the environment to produce. Grass fed animals are very beneficial tho since grass traps insane amounts of carbo from the atmosphere. More than what the cows fart since it’s a feedback loop. Cow farts turn into trapped carbon in grass then the cows eat the grass and fart it back out but not all grass is eated so there’s more carbon trapped then is taken out of the soil. Natural food for cows produces better quality meat too

It also doesn't really address the major elephant in the room:
Mono-crop agriculture is just as destructive if not more so than factory farming. So not even the vegans can hold their heads high.

What do you mean it isn't much? We need every bit of possible way to solve the issue. But of course, the vegans are heroes in their own minds, so we can't tell them about this.

@@NathanCassidy721 exactly, since my country has more than half its population in agriculture, we knew early on about crop rotation, intercropping and multiple cropping. Sadly, it isn't enough to feed the world's second largest populated country.

Here in austria there is a app where you can upload your leftovers and people who are in need can come and pick it up! But since corona that also lost a bit of population... I hope other countries can try things like these too!

One thing i do mind about this video, is that you say we should switch to electric cars. But that wont work. They way we get the materials needed for electric cars and bateries is worse than using a normal eficient gas powered car for 10 years. So would it be better if we switched away from personal transportation, and towards public transit and bikes? These have been shown to greatly reduce emisions, and will help grow the economy.

It is in the nature of climates to change as it for time to pass.
A temperature can be defined only for a homogeneous system. Furthermore, the climate is not governed by a single temperature. Rather, differences of temperatures drive the processes and create the storms, sea currents, thunder, etc. which make up the climate.
