The gun issue is misleading. If you want to stop mass shootings, you need to address the issues at the root cause - gang activity accounts for majority of violent and gun crimes, mental health accounts for many of the mass shootings that make the news, and a general lack of empathy in society are the issues. Guns are less deadly than cars by statistics, but we aren’t charging manufacturers for the road rage of drivers.

We need more people like Ms. Porter. I pay $865.00 per month for my health care insurance because I retired early to spend more time with my mother who has Alzheimer’s disease. That was 3&1/2 years ago. I have 2&1/2 years to go before I turn 65. Healthcare cost is ridiculous however, not having healthcare is frightening.

Ms porter was simply not interested in hearing the rest beyond her response. The witness was also not interested in hearing someone tell her she lied, since when she testified with Jim Jordan, he was sympathic to the witness' interests, but Ms. Porter is not.

Her claim that they couldn't transfer the weapon over to another party is accurate but that was not what Porter was asking her about. She implied that everyone who might own such guns after the law passed would become felons which was a lie or disingenuous at best. Of course the law stipulated you couldn't transfer ownership of such guns over to another person. That was how the law was fashioned and if passed would have prevented that transfer. Ergo her position when she originally testified was false when she claimed all such gun owners would immediately be felons when she well knew those who owned such weapons could keep them as per the law. People like this woman has blood on their hands, perhaps not literally, but metaphorically because of her support of an industry that creates these weapons for the sole support of mass murder. It would be tragic but if she should become a victim of one of these murderous events some might would consider it Karma paying her back for such a perverse position. And what is usually the public's response after one of these mass murders? Well they generally go out and purchase even more of these wretched devices as if that is going to protect them from such violence. I'm pretty certain the gun industry celebrates when a mass murder happens because they understand that people will go out and buy even more of these killing machines. And the cycle of death continues. A vast majority of the American people want commonsense gun laws to protect human life. But since the GOP is in the hip pocket of the gun industry no such laws can get passed. You can't even sue these servants of the Grim Reaper. The Republicans would filibuster such laws and since you need 60 votes in the Senate it couldn't pass even if it came up for a vote. I'd really like to know just how many blood baths will satisfy people like you in this violent death worshiping nation? How many domestic family murders, accidential deaths of children, or suicides by desperate people who've lost any hope in life will satiate your lust for blood? These weapons are just another version of the M16 I carried in Vietnam and no matter that most of these AR15s are semi-automatic they can easily be altered to automatic like my M16 was as Congresswoman Porter readily indicated. If you've ever seen someone who has been shot by one of these weapons then you would know what kind of damage one of these weapons can inflict on a person even if they survive. The M16 was in fact designed to cause a lot of damage but not necessarily to kill. The reasoning behind that was that a severely injured combatant would force the command structure of his military to use more personnel to care for the wounded removing them from engaging in the battle. But if you are hit enough times as in these mass murder events death is inevitable. Perhaps if you could witness the damage they can do which I did over fifty years ago you would reconsider your opion on them. And the people I saw struck by those weapons were enemy combatants intent to kill Americans.

Over the course of my long 74 years of life the first mass murder that sticks out in my mind was when Charlse Whitman went up to the University of Texas Tower and shot 13 people dead and wounding others. Whitman wasn't out to commit any run of the mill crime other than mass murder which he couldn't in his lucid moments he couldn't explain to the counselor he was meeting to try and deal with the disquieting thoughts he was having. He had been an excellent Marine and was a crack shot most of his life having gone hunting with his overbearing father who abused him and his brother and their mother. He had a small brain tumor but most experts don't believe that was what compelled him to commit the murders he did which not only were his 13 victims at the University of Texas but his mother and wife as well which he left a note explaining he only killed them to spare them the embarrassment of what he was about to do. I dare say most mass murderers are not people with criminal records, but those who have some mental disorder or some repressed anger at society or are deeply anti-social which hadn't manifested itself violently until the decided to murder as many people as they can and then themselves which is usually the case. Those that survive are more than likely those to cowardly to pull the trigger on themselves. Roger Rogers was an incel who was simply angry because he couldn't get laid. He had no criminal record. No telling how many more are incels as well that we haven't discovered that was their motive. The kid who went to the threatre in Colorado had no criminal record. The El Paso killer who went to the Walmart and killed 22 people mostly of Hispanic heritage Mexicans and Americans had no record but was inspired by racist right-wingers like you who hate anyone who isn't a reflection of their whiteness. Red States here in the south where I live lead the country in homicides, indeed in other crimes across the board no matter what category you might delve into. And you can purchase a gun, any kind of gun in most of these states with few questions. Even in some with no need of a permit. In Missouri you can carry an AR15 even as a teenager, in some instances as a pre-teen in public places and Missouri's legislature refuses to pass a law to restrict them doing so according to news reports currently recounting it. Your brain is not fully functioning until you're in your early twenties. So do you want an impulsive minor carrying around weapons that can kill untold numbers in seconds? Most crimes where criminals use these weapons against each other is between gang bangers having a turf war. States with stricter gun laws have fewer of these types of crimes and where they happen in urban areas are mostly in inner cities where despair and lack of opportunity informs them crime is their only avenue to more money. If this country was governed properly and taxes were appropriately enforced and efforts created to forge a fair economic system much of it would disappear. But racist fools like you are terrified of the prospect of everyone having a fair shake here. Bullying in school is also something that should be rectified. It occurred when I was in school in the fifties, and sixties, but not to the extent it does now even after a kid leaves school on social media. I don't recall any kid taking a weapon to school and killing the ones who bullied them. I didn't go to school with the likes of Eric Davis or Dylan Kliebold. If we had a problem with a bully we would go to fist city with them and be done with it. What she did what point out the woman said gun owners would become overnight criminals if the bill was passed in her previous testimony and made her admit it was an exaggeration/hyperbole based on the language of the law. The bill states AWs would be grandfathered to the owners who had them. It then made resale illegal. The gun lobbyist stated we would be criminals over night implying ownership was illegal, but she was talking about if we took the action to resell the guns. This country needs more legislators like Katie Porter. She comes prepared, does not accept bullshit responses to her inquiries, and is not intimidated by those who typically behave as if they are accountable to no one. If you want to stop mass shootings, you need to address the issues at the root cause - gang activity accounts for majority of violent and gun crimes, mental health accounts for many of the mass shootings that make the news, and a general lack of empathy in society are the issues. Guns are less deadly than cars by statistics, but we aren’t charging manufacturers for the road rage of drivers.

We need more people like Ms. Porter. I pay $865.00 per month for my health care insurance because I retired early to spend more time with my mother who has Alzheimer’s disease. That was 3&1/2 years ago. I have 2&1/2 years to go before I turn 65. Healthcare cost is ridiculous however, not having healthcare is frightening.

Ms porter was simply not interested in hearing the rest beyond her response. The witness was also not interested in hearing someone tell her she lied, since when she testified with Jim Jordan, he was sympathic to the witness' interests, but Ms. Porter is not.
@leekenyon8705 She did respond suggesting her statement was misinterpreted. But everyone present knew damn well she had lied that her previous claim was false. Her claim that they couldn't transfer the weapon over to another party is accurate but that was not what Porter was asking her about. She implied that everyone who might own such guns after the law passed would become felons which was a lie or disingenuous at best. Of course the law stipulated you couldn't transfer ownership of such guns over to another person. That was how the law was fashioned and if passed would have prevented that transfer. Ergo her position when she originally testified was false when she claimed all such gun owners would immediately be felons when she well knew those who owned such weapons could keep them as per the law. People like this woman has blood on their hands, perhaps not literally, but metaphorically because of her support of an industry that creates these weapons for the sole support of mass murder. It would be tragic but if she should become a victim of one of these murderous events some might would consider it Karma paying her back for such a perverse position.
And what is usually the public's response after one of these mass murders? Well they generally go out and purchase even more of these wretched devices as if that is going to protect them from such violence. I'm pretty certain the gun industry celebrates when a mass murder happens because they understand that people will go out and buy even more of these killing machines. And the cycle of death continues. A vast majority of the American people want commonsense gun laws to protect human life. But since the GOP is in the hip pocket of the gun industry no such laws can get passed. You can't even sue these servants of the Grim Reaper. The Republicans would filibuster such laws and since you need 60 votes in the Senate it couldn't pass even if it came up for a vote. I'd really like to know just how many blood baths will satisfy people like you in this violent death worshiping nation? How many domestic family murders, accidential deaths of children, or suicides by desperate people who've lost any hope in life will satiate your lust for blood?
These weapons are just another version of the M16 I carried in Vietnam and no matter that most of these AR15s are semi-automatic they can easily be altered to automatic like my M16 was as Congresswoman Porter readily indicated. If you've ever seen someone who has been shot by one of these weapons then you would know what kind of damage one of these weapons can inflict on a person even if they survive. The M16 was in fact designed to cause a lot of damage but not necessarily to kill. The reasoning behind that was that a severely injured combatant would force the command structure of his military to use more personnel to care for the wounded removing them from engaging in the battle. But if you are hit enough times as in these mass murder events death is inevitable. Perhaps if you could witness the damage they can do which I did over fifty years ago you would reconsider your opion on them. And the people I saw struck by those weapons were enemy combatants intent to kill Americans.

Over the course of my long 74 years of life the first mass murder that sticks out in my mind was when Charlse Whitman went up to the University of Texas Tower and shot 13 people dead and wounding others. Whitman wasn't out to commit any run of the mill crime other than mass murder which he couldn't in his lucid moments he couldn't explain to the counselor he was meeting to try and deal with the disquieting thoughts he was having. He had been an excellent Marine and was a crack shot most of his life having gone hunting with his overbearing father who abused him and his brother and their mother. He had a small brain tumor but most experts don't believe that was what compelled him to commit the murders he did which not only were his 13 victims at the University of Texas but his mother and wife as well which he left a note explaining he only killed them to spare them the embarrassment of what he was about to do.
I dare say most mass murderers are not people with criminal records, but those who have some mental disorder or some repressed anger at society or are deeply anti-social which hadn't manifested itself violently until the decided to murder as many people as they can and then themselves which is usually the case. Those that survive are more than likely those to cowardly to pull the trigger on themselves. Roger Rogers was an incel who was simply angry because he couldn't get laid. He had no criminal record. No telling how many more are incels as well that we haven't discovered that was their motive. The kid who went to the threatre in Colorado had no criminal record. The El Paso killer who went to the Walmart and killed 22 people mostly of Hispanic heritage Mexicans and Americans had no record but was inspired by racist right-wingers like you who hate anyone who isn't a reflection of their whiteness.
Red States here in the south where I live lead the country in homicides, indeed in other crimes across the board no matter what category you might delve into. And you can purchase a gun, any kind of gun in most of these states with few questions. Even in some with no need of a permit. In Missouri you can carry an AR15 even as a teenager, in some instances as a pre-teen in public places and Missouri's legislature refuses to pass a law to restrict them doing so according to news reports currently recounting it. Your brain is not fully functioning until you're in your early twenties. So do you want an impulsive minor carrying around weapons that can kill untold numbers in seconds? Most crimes where criminals use these weapons against each other is between gang bangers having a turf war. States with stricter gun laws have fewer of these types of crimes and where they happen in urban areas are mostly in inner cities where despair and lack of opportunity informs them crime is their only avenue to more money.
If this country was governed properly and taxes were appropriately enforced and efforts created to forge a fair economic system much of it would disappear. But racist fools like you are terrified of the prospect of everyone having a fair shake here. Bullying in school is also something that should be rectified. It occurred when I was in school in the fifties, and sixties, but not to the extent it does now even after a kid leaves school on social media. I don't recall any kid taking a weapon to school and killing the ones who bullied them. I didn't go to school with the likes of Eric Davis or Dylan Kliebold. If we had a problem with a bully we would go to fist city with them and be done with it. If you are so sure of your position then explain to me why the majority of the country even among Republicans think sensible gun laws can't and won't get passed? The bill states AWs would be grandfathered to the owners who had them. It then made resale illegal. The gun lobbyist stated we would be criminals over night implying ownership was illegal, but she was talking about if we took the action to resell the guns.
