When I decided to take exercising seriously this was my choice. As a teenager ballet, jazz and modern dance were my passion. This has encouraged me to get back into shape, exercise, and stick to a program. Also, she explains the muscles and tells you not to hurt yourself and that's what I needed to be successful and healthy. Thanks Miranda.

I cannot tell you adequately in words how truly thankful I am for doing both free workout videos for RUclips and for the access to these great workouts through public television! Some of us are so poor we can't even afford the (very reasonable price) of the DVDs in our budget, yet here you are making it available to everyone. There's no excuse left for me to be lazy about getting and staying in shape, thanks to you and your amazing mom! Bless you.

I totally agree. If I wasn't in financial crisis, I would have bought the DVDs sold through PBS. Like you I'm grateful to have these videos until I can afford the reasonable price.

When I was younger I had a back injury, strained it bad, i started doing my own stretches without going to any Doctors or watching stretch or yoga videos.
I just kept practicing different positions until I felt comfortable and my body started feeling good.
As I started noticing that yoga got more and more famous, I noticed that I was doing exactly what some of these excercises/stretches were what I was doing, amazing.
What also helped is that I was a "Mover", which is a "powerlifting" type of work, so that helped strengthen my body more.
Sometimes I watch videos, now, and that's I'm here, great job.

I so wish we had public tv here - I'm not able to purchase the dvds and my body is ageing quickly. :) Could someone advise as to what is suggested for my knees- they always role in - I can't point my feet like shown on the videos. I've twisted both knees over the years and need proper strengthening but haven't found a EW video for knees - has anyone else found one they could share? thanks

My shoulders hurt when I do this. It's the tightening of the arms and shoulders as I work the abs, this I know. But how do I stop? Is it a matter of reminding myself to keep my shoulders loose?
I am hypermobile and can extend quite passed normal ranges. Added to this 49 yr old body is knee pain, flat feet, and minor spinal degenration of the L1&2 and L5&S1 joints as well as the SI joint, with a tendency to compensate to keep balance. Is this a good program for me, all the stretching? I've been told too much stretching can do more harm than good in the long run.

We are sorry to hear about the pain in your shoulder during this workout! Here is some advice from one of our trainers:
Try relaxing your shoulders, arms (keep your elbows relaxed) and fingers at first and do the workout in this relaxed mode; this should help your shoulder remain pain-free. You can then gradually add the lengthening and resistance to your movement. With hypermobility, it is important to hold back as you lengthen, take your arm for example, think about holding under your arm and shoulder in place, then while maintaining this, think about pulling from your wrist to elongate the arm muscles. This will help stabilize your joint and strengthen around them as well as target all your arm muscles.
We would recommend this short tutorial about foot positioning to help with your feet and knee pain: www.essentricstv.com/tutorials-1/season:1/videos/full-body-workout-vol-3-proper-foot-positioning-workshop-with-miranda-esmonde-white
Any time we lift the arms above the head, watch that your hips do not fall forward and think about pulling your torso up from your hips to help recruit all your core muscles including the muscles supporting your spine; we do not want to feel pressure or heaviness in the low back.
I hope this is helpful! 🤗

This and all standing Essentrics workouts are great for anyone wanting to increase their core strength without adding internal pressure on the core muscles. This, over time, will help with Diastasis Recti 😊
