Hi and thanks for such a considered and thoughtful reaction video to this song. Elton John once said that the Kate Bush part of this song had literally saved his life, giving him the strength to overcome addiction, offering him real hope that he could break free of it. And it is a tremendous song with two great performances from two outstanding artists. it is a beautifully balanced song - with Peter Gabriel singing mostly in the singular about 'I' while she sings in the plural about 'we', he dwells much on the past, while her part concentrates on the present and future. Kate Bush is the call of family, friends, community and people who love him to remind him that they are all still there and all still with him come what may. It is a great piece of song writing by Peter Gabriel. He had originally wanted Dolly Parton for the female part, but it never happened and so he turned to Kate Bush - who he knew well, had been friends with for a long time and worked with before, knowing full well that she would give him a complete performance that was just right for the song, and of course, she did just that.

The comments that people have left against the official music video indicate that this song has made a major positive impact on so many lives. Which is amazing.

it is such a beautiful song that never fails to give me goosebumps, tears and lumps in my throat. You should also check out Kate's music video 'This Woman's work', one of my all time favourite ''feel'' songs.

This song always tears me up, life can be tough, we all have been there one way or another

  • @GaryNoone-jz3mq

They touched you, didn't they Mike! This is the original. Many others have tried to copy. None have succeeded.

  • @dmuhler

This song was first offered to Dolly Parton and was turned down without comment. Touching song that was inspired by a famous photo done by Dorothea Lange during the depression of the early 1930’s. It is a timeless masterpiece!!!

Hey Mike let me just say I absolutely love your Interest or more appropriately your passion for music from our era. To be not only just enjoying the music but also taking an Interest In who's Involved In producing and writing the songs Is seriously giving me a hard on. Being a passionate music lover myself from the 70s and 80s I'm so proud of you mate and it really makes me want to be with you on this journey like so many others I'm sure. So please don't pack it in because it's not returning an expected amount of money for the time put In or the few dick heads you have to put up with you're not just In It for that like so many shallow others you have accumulated a network of friends (many of us crazy Aussies) that think a real lot of you and are loving what you're doing and how you're going about It. I can't wait to see what's next mate.

  • @Muckylittleme

That was a nice natural reaction, thank you.

A beautifull song by two so very talented artists. And such a beautiful music video. Who needs flashy cuts & edits when you can have a one-shot performance. Though this song would've suited Dolly, I can't imagine anyone but the wonderful Kate on this record.

I haven't heard this version before. I only knew of the Shannon Noll/Natalie Bassingthwagite one.
