Never for Ever is my favorite Kate Bush album as one of the 10 albums I would bring with me on a desert island.
It's also easily her most varied album, stylistically speaking songs like Babooshka, Army Dreamer or Violin should not be together on a same album and still give an organic and satisfying experience but it does... because it's Kate Bush and Kate Bush is awesome.
The Dreaming is a close second and her debut, The Kick inside is truly excellent. By the first song (Moving) you're hooked to her style and voice.
Hounds of love is great but truly, it's the Ninth Wave (the second side on vinyl) that makes it such a unique album. Bush is an artist in every sense of the word and she litterally kicked the door open for solo female artists that came after her.
Artists like Madonna, Tori Amos, Bjork, PJ Harvey all owe a huge debt to this amazing lady.
Never Forever was her masterpiece, in my opinion. Never topped. The production, the writing...endlessly amazing.

I would describe "Never For Ever" as the album where Kate spreads her musical wings, I remember when I 1st got this, I played it all the way through. On my top 5 Kate Bush albums list this is number 3, I won't reveal the top 2 yet. 😀 Thank you for another great reaction!

Delius IS a song of summer. So dreamy and atmospheric.
Delius is about the English classical composer Fredrick Delius, in later life. I think The infant Kiss is inspired by a film.
Nevertheless, as with all her albums these songs and melodies grow and fully immerse the listener, the more you listen to them . A bit like reading an amazing novel which you return to . For one so young it is astounding to think of her capacity to create and write, produce albums of this quality. I find it hard enough to write this.
I love all of her albums, but particularly Aerial ( second disc) and the live album Before the Dawn.

Never For Ever is in my top 3 Kate Bush albums. I love how varied it is stylistically while also sounding cohesive. 'Breathing' to me is easily one of Kate's masterpieces. I can't listen to it and not get chills every single time hearing her emotive singing paired with those poignant lyrics that still feel timely. She's one of a kind.

never for ever is absolutely the moment kate started to truly establish her identity that would lead to hounds of love - looking at the songs you enjoyed in it you’ll LOVE the dreaming. listening to her albums in order really feels like a journey, it’s quite exciting! she described the dreaming as her ‘she’s gone mad’ album, but you can very much see it too in never for ever!

Amazing album, absolutely beautiful from start to finish. Each song creates its own atmosphere and tells a story. For me, The Infant Kiss (based on the film The Innocents, which in turn is based on "The Turn of the Screw" by Henry James) is absolute perfection in gothic horror. It's beautiful, creepy, unsettling in its music, and the lyrics are so disturbing. For me it's a masterpiece of prog pop perfection.

I love this album, it's so otherworldly and the perfect mix of the magical and theatrical The Kick Inside and the crazy and experimental The Dreaming. She co-produced it and she discovered the fairlight, so she had much more creative freedom. The word mythology also comes to mind for me and it seems like that's what she was going for based on the album cover, and it has a barock vibe for sure! not sure if you know, but blow away is a tribute to an engineer that died in an accident during the tour she had done the previous year. she mentions him later on in her discography.

Never forever is
.... how do I put it? It's kind of like vampish bawdy camp dark fairy tale cautionary tale meets theatricality and maybe even smacks of activism.. the sensual world which is a unmitigated masterpiece I think it is one of Kate's Magnum opuses. Few can pull off more than one. She's one of them

Excluding wuthering Heights, I then heard the whole story compilation cd, and it was breathing & cloudbusting as the two tracks that captivated me
There is a hint of a cabaret vibe to some of her early songs. Like the vaudville era, there is a sense of whimsy and a kind of tongue in cheek cynicism. 'The Wedding List' is a good example.

thank you for mentioning 'Rocket's Tail', one of the best tracks from her, That acapella style opening and then when the beat and guitar kicks in blows my mind. The lyrics too about jumping off Waterloo Bridge with a rocket on her back like she's a firework goes so well with the blast of the music. Absolutely brilliant track
