Kate Bush has nothing to do with B52's which is an american band, KB is an english artist. Kate Pierson was one of the two female members of B52's.
Kate Bush is a solo artist and has no connection with the B52's.
Mike, it is astonishing that you had a taste for prog and the avant-garde, knew about Peter Gabriel, but did not know who Kate Bush was. Kate is one of the greatest ever female artists who was finally inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, no doubt helped by her song ‘Running Up That Hill’ blowing up all over the world after its use in an iconic scene in Stranger Things. Kate did everything - singer, songwriter, pianist, composer, producer, dancer and mime artist, choreographer, video pioneer and director etc. The list of famous singers (male and female) who cite her as a major influence is immense. Just look at her page on wikipedia. And she provided all the background singing on Peter Gabriel’s third album ‘Melt’ in an earlier collaboration.
This is a person I heard of but had no idea she was out there and she is just the kind of singer I like. We are going to react to her more.

It’s really surprising you have not heard of Kate Bush as she is one of the most creative, inventive people in music as is Peter Gabriel. I can’t imagine the ‘music industry’ with out her. How dull it would be without her. Listien to Wuthering Heights for example (watch the video) or The Man With a Child in HIs Eyes but all her albums are so good to say the least. There is no one like her.
A quick background summary of Kate Bush. Kate started writing songs at about 11 years old, adding more complex lyrics from 13 onwards. By her late teens, she had written about two hundred,and the family made demo recordings of about fifty of them in an attempt to attract the attention of record companies without any success. Until a friend of family passed the demos to David Gilmour (guitarist for Pink Floyd), he was interested and ultimately paid for time at studio with session musicians to make professional recordings of three songs from Kate extensive catalogue which he selected. It was those professional recordings that he passed onto EMI executives when he was asked about new talents - when EMI listened they wanted to sign Kate up immediately, but they had to wait until she had left school, Kate signed for EMI when she was 16 years old.
EMI paid Kate a retainer, which she used to improve her piano playing, voice lessons and also dance & mime lessons from Lindsay Kemp (who had also taught David Bowie to dance) Kate also fronted a pub band that one of her brothers had put together. Eventually EMI called Kate back to work on her debut album "The Kick Inside" although two songs were taken from the earlier professional recordings that David Gilmour had paid for - notably one of them was written when she was just 13 years old and is regarded to be the one that convinced EMI to sign Kate..
Kate's debut single "Wuthering Heights" was released in January 1978 and it was so different to everything else in the singles chart and became a massive worldwide hit, reaching number 1 in a number of countries around the world and charting highly in others. When it got to number 1 in the UK, Kate became the first female artist to have a self written song reach number one, this was the 1st of numerous records and milestones that Kate has set in the UK and album charts.
NOTE: The chart performance of "Wuthering Heights" was surpassed in 2022 due to the inclusion of Kate's 1985 single "Running Up That Hill" into the series "Stranger Things". RUTH became an ever greater worldwide hit and, at one point, was the most streamed song worldwide.
When "The Kick Inside" was released later in 1978, it sold a million copies in the UK and reached number three in the album chart.
Kate is multi-talented a singer/songwriter, musician, dancer, record producer, video producer & director. Kate was also very heavily involved in the staging of both of her concert tours - 1979 "Tour Of Life" and the 2014 concert residency "Before The Dawn." Kate has inspired/influenced countless numbers of artists/musicians who followed her, she is considered to be a musical icon and a pioneer.
Kate was credited as a co-producer on her third album ,"Never For Ever", she was the sole producer on her fourth album, "The Dreaming," and every one of her subsequent studio albums.

Ok, for some reason a reply that posted yesterday summarising her visibility in America, in order to give anyone who isn't familiar with Kate Bush some further context, has disappeared completely.

Yikes, since you have no idea who "Kate Bush", I feel that I have a duty to set you straight. So let's start with some recent history.
Kate Bush is the British artist whose inclusion of her 1985 single "Running Up That Hill" from her iconic "Hounds Of Love" into the series "Stranger Things" resulted in the song becoming in 2022 an absolute monster worldwide hit, including North America, where the song eeached nunber 3 in the Billboard chart and number 1 in other specialist Billboard charts. "Hounds Of Love" also massively improved on its previous US chart poditions, reaching number 12 in the Billboard Album chart and number 1 in other Billboard specialist album charts.
"Running Up That Hill" was also recognised as the "song of the summer" in both America and the UK.
Kate Bush is the same artist who was entered into the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" in 2023.
Kate Bush has worked with Peter Gabriel before, he was a guest on Kate's 1979 BBC Christmas Special and Kate provided the backing vocals for two tracks in Peter Gabriel's 3rd self titled studio album (e.g. the one with the melted face).

Kate Bush is regarded to be one of the most influential female artists ever and has inspired countless artists that followed her.
Some people claim that she's a female version of "David Bowie".

Ok, in terms of what Kate Bush songs are worth listening to, you really are spoilt for choice since Kate's musical catalogue is of such high quality and not limited to just the singles, there are numerous outstanding album tracks as well.
Then it's a question of where do you start? One approach is to listen to single releases in chronological order. This does have the advantage of seeing just how Kate evolved as an artist over the years. Some may start at the time of the "Hounds Of Love" album. Where you start is up to you.

Both artists have nothing to prove, but I always found this song set my teeth on edge!
