This was an awesome band and album, but my favorite live Gabriel was ‘82. The music wasn’t as “big”, and the whole show blew my mind. This tour was excellent, though.
And 35ish years later he's still got so much to give🧡😊

The entire concert was so high quality. I remember seeing it for the first time in 2004 on a high definition disc player. I was so captivated the entire time. One of the best live performances that I have ever seen. Maybe the best. Of course I bought the cassette, the CD and the DVD. After 30 years it is still fresh and otherworldly
The language is Wolof, from Senegal. Peter's drummer Manu Katché is from there, as is also one of his long- time friends and collaborators Youssou N'dour (though they've done many songs together- try his "Shaking the tree"- Youssou was not on this tour). Gabriel performed Biko, about the murdered South African Stephen Biko (11 Dec 77) in about 1980 and again FOR Nelson Mandela at the 46664 Aids Concert in South Africa, 2003. Greetings from Canada- Peace and be safe.
@@TheMudman2010 Thank you, sir- I clearly misunderstood Peter in an interview some years back, and I appreciate your politeness in letting me know. Peace.
@@david-arthur8166Well you are no doubt right about Papa Wemba (I knew he was Congolese but did not know he spoke Lingala). My answer was to the uploader's query as to what PG was speaking- which was indeed Wolof, before Papa took up the lead. Peace, love and hockey pucks.
I see the doorway to a thousand churches in your eyes. I’m not even religious and that line still gets me. I saw Peter in concert. He holds the audience in the palm of his hand. I love all your reactions!
I never watched someone watch this and they did not have a smile on there face One of my favorite singers Try him with Genesis Suppers Ready its long but magical
We witness an outpouring of love and music here with the crowd fully in it and one major surprise after another coming from that rotating stage. One of the great concert performances of an epic song! Thank you so much for experiencing this!
It brings tears to my eyes at your joy hearing this. I am an American N European. I believe E African and especially Nigerian and E American friendship would be good for us all. Sending love from my heart.
The amazing female singer is Paula Cole, who later had her own successful solo career, with hits like “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone” and “I Don’t Want to Wait”
Peter Gabrie is an outstanding artis all the way back to the band Genesis.Genesis are an English rock band formed at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, in 1967. And Phil Collins was member of the band. thank you one of my top songs. If you have the time check out Peter Gabriel ft. The Blind Boys of Alabama - Sky Blue (Growing Up Live) It is a touch of magic. Thank you young lady all the best from England and stay safe.
Greetings from Uruguay, South America. I congratulate you for reacting to the music that marked my youth and I follow you every day. I feel like part of my family. Greetings.
Watching your smile and the joy on your face while you were watching this was delightful. And there is the unity of all people in the eyes of Jesus. Heaven. ✌️❤️ to you beautiful dancing sister.
You can tell it was filmed a while ago, lighters instead of phones!😁😁 Peter Gabriel is all about world music and this is magic performance Its originally from his album "So" You need to react to the video of "Sledge Hammer" and also "Don't Give up"
a statement of love and of a united world, so much needed in this awfull times nowadays, a statement of longing for peace - we need it now more than ever - "I don't like to see so much pain"!!
Hi Sarah(: p.gabriel is a rhythm master in music era (: can you belive that phil collins and peter gabriel was in the same band GENESIS in the 70 - 80s ..if i listen to P.Gabriel in the morning. And his rhythm music stay in my brain allday at work(: sorry for my bad english/: i am swede (:
Peter Gabriel is a champion of human rights, international music, and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!! His songs have strong emotional vibes, including Biko, Solsbury Hill, In Your Eyes, Red Rain, Family Snapshot, Sledgehammer, Mercy Street, Games Without Frontiers, Shaking the Tree, Secret World, Come Talk to Me, Zaar, A Different Drum, Jigalong, Down to Earth, It Is Accomplished, Father Son, The Time of the Turning, San Jacinto, On The Air, The Rhythm of the Heat, Big Time, Steam, Don’t Give Up, Fourteen Black Paintings, Sky Blue, and When You’re Falling. BTW, the best live version of In Your Eyes is 1986 in Athens.
Paula Cole was a last minute addition to the tour. She got tossed in with almost no chance to get a good direction of things but pulled it off beautifully.
I remember hearing this song when I was a kid and I fell in love with it! His voice is so unique. I would love to bring voices like that back into music. I feel like today’s music doesn’t have enough unique voices like his and I also feel like today’s music is very polished. Anyway, this song has always been a favorite.
I luv the African thing, wherein you can be singing a love song to your significant other but the same song can be you singing also to God. This song fits into that idea. You can sing this song in church without changing the lyrics, in my opinion. The older singer with the red cap is Papa Wemba. And some of the words you hear in the song, especially in the studio version which is on Peter Gabriels album 'So', some lyrics in Woloff sung by Youssou N Dour. God bless you, young lady.
I'm forever transported to the Summer of 1989 when i heat this song. I was 16 and had the world ahead of me. Anything was possible. Its was a great feeling. Wonderful.
I loved this song when it came out, but watching this video completely different feel, so powerful and emotional, incredibly moving, thank you for sharing this Sarah ❤️
Best part is watching you and your amazement.. but the best part is being an empath. I feel every emotion of every artist as they sing from their heart and soul.. every emotion is embedded in every recording.. and now so is yours as you reacted to each song I've seen you discover.. you are a rare one.. not many feel like you do to me.. I now subscribe to you and when I need my heart warmed I watch you and your ride with the music.. there is still hope for this planet yet.
Wow I subscribed at just the right time the other day. This is another song I ALWAYS go back to. Got to see Gabriel live about 10 years ago and it was amazing. Glad you loved it!
Enjoyed your reaction and commentary! I was not surprised to hear the Youssou N'dour connection in this live version, first collaborated on in 1986. While living in West Africa in the early 90s Youssou N'dour was already well known and popular outside of Senegal, I got to hear a lot of his music in bush taxis. I really enjoyed his collaboration with PG on Passion, too.
What a great reaction video! So happy that you watched the whole song without stopping it, so many reaction videos interrupt/stop the song to give comments, especially if they are voice teachers. Anyway you were obviously so happy, is great to see someone else enjoy and appreciate such a beautiful song and incredible performance.
I first want to say I am so appreciative of your reaction!! You let the video play through without interruption! So necessary for a song/performance like this!!
You might also like Paul Simon's live version of "Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes" which he recorded after visiting Africa. He has some African backup singers/dancers on with him. It's a phenomenal video!
can we all sing... all ethnicities and creeds.... beautifully, exclaiming we will no longer let them divide us? Music is so beautiful with it involves all of us
Thank you for not talking over the music like most reaction videos! Just seeing your expressions change made this amazing. I’ve got plenty of recommendations if you’d like more songs. Have a great night
I really loved your reaction to this video. To hear someone from Africa say that it reminds you of your type of musical beat makes me realize how well this group captured that authentic vibe. I have worked with several people from Nigeria at my job. They have all been wonderful people.
love your reaction. this performance made me cry when i first saw it. you should definitely listen to solsbury hill by peter gabriel as well - the Live DNA version on youtube. i think you will like it 🙂
The guy with the red hat is Papa Wemba. who is Congolese. but I'm not sure what language he was singing because the original was recorded with a different singer.
The language is Wolof, which comes from Senegal, Mauritania, and the Gambia. The line is: _Sa bet chi lamp, chi tangaay, sa bet maangi ci biir_ That translates roughly to same words from the English chorus: "In your eyes, I see the light and the heat."
Peter Gabriel's Secret World Tour has always fascinated me, he was arguably at the peak of his abilities here.

Adding Paula’s vocals to this song was a great touch, Peter. Good job!!
Spiritual, ain't it?❤ Never gets old!
