Peter Gabriel believed we could all come together through music, dance, and the blending of culture, not the separation of culture. This proves he was absolutely right. Everyone who hears,, and sees this video loves it. He called this world music.
Peter G' helped establish a recording studio in the 80's to record and promote musicians from around the World. WOMAD -World of music, arts, and dance. I have several CD's from the artists. There have been concert tour with WOMAD musicians, and Rock or Hip-hop. I saw two of these concerts in 1993, and 1994. There were musicians from African nations, Japan, India -with western musicians like Crowded House, Arrested Development, Lenny Kravitz, Midnight Oil, and Peter Gabriel as the headliner. The choreography, and band, and singers were like this performance. The singer near the end was Youssou N'Dour, from Senegal (if you can't figure out his language) - he and Peter G' did several collaborations.

I’m curious where the line is between honoring other musical cultures and appropriation. Many bands, usually British, introduced the sounds of former British colonies and brought them to mainstream awareness. Does Blondie’s use of rap constitute appropriation or absorption? Talking Heads? Peter Gabriel obviously. Paul Simon? Just curious what other people think.
I was going to suggest that. Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush was great, and the one I was most familiar with, but this version is from another world. A secret world, if you will. 😉

And this concert - Secret World Live - is a full-on movie, that's where this track is from - the entire thing is must-see/listen. The sound engineering is incredible for a live performance, and Gabriel is at his finest.
You have got to get the dvd and watch the whole concert. Then see if you can get your jaw up off the floor after you watch. And if you have a good sound system, or headphones, even better.

Peter Gabriel is an amazing vocalist. He got that start with Genesis. But when I hear this song it takes me back to the 1980s because it was in the movie Say Anything with John Cusack. Peter uses African singers and in a lot of his songs you can hear the influence.

I saw Paula Cole a while after this concert, when she was opening for Sarah McLachlan. She’s amazing. Her first album gets sadly overlooked - it was so badly promoted that she was eligible for (and won) the Best New Artist Grammy for her second album. She’s mostly known for “I Don’t Want to Wait” and “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?” but they don’t have half the punch of her really emotional work, like “I Am So Ordinary” “Feelin’ Love” or “Hush Hush Hush.” (The last of which features Peter Gabriel as a guest vocalist.)

OMG I love you! Your vibe, your energy, your commentary! My husband and I went to this concert and this song was our first dance as husband and wife. Sadly, he passed and every time I hear this song I cry. It’s an AMAZING song.
I saw Peter Gabriel in 1975 in a small theater in Dallas. My friend just bought a used car which was the first Honda car which was maybe the smallest car in the US at the time. We were driving down Forest Lane where all the cool people hangout, chase girls and get buzzed. We stop at a stop light and a huge Texas Truck pull up beside us with tires about as tall as the little Honda that the 3 of us were in. The guy on the passenger side of the truck leaned out of the window and sort of yelled down at us… “Hey, did Daddy let you drive the go-cart tonight.” I don’t know why except maybe we were high, but we started laughing like crazy at the way the guy said it. Funny how sometimes just getting to the concert can be as memorable as the concert. Peter Gabriel is a treasure.
There's a lot of talent on the stage there. Tony Levin is one of the best bassists out there (plays with King Crimson amongst others.) Manu Katche is a monster drummer. The violinist is one of the best Indian classical violinists, who is playing stuff vastly below his capabilities here but it's got to be fun doing these shows with Peter (he also played on some of Phil Collin's solo albums as well.) The female vocalist is Paula Cole who had a good solo career in the 90s (check out her song Mississippi, which is killer.) And of course Peter who was the singer for Genesis during their classic period, and who had hit after hit during the 90s. See the live version of Red Rain as well, which is amazing and Katche just kills that. ruclips.net/video/DLUp6PNTi7E/видео.html
@@patriciamcl54, I think he's talking about the people on stage right now. Youssou N’dour wasn't on the stage but his vocals on the original are unparalleled when it comes to the African vibe. Papa Wemba did his own thing with the African vibe part too.
You gotta love Peter Gabriel, definitely a unique artist. A founding member of Genesis but he left for solo career in mid-seventies. His live shows are all about physical movement and World music. Check out Solsbury Hill, cool Live DNA clip that goes back and forth in time over 30-40 years, interesting.

HIs concert in NYC, back in the 80's (The Palladium on 14th street), was one of the best I've ever been to. I'll always remember waiting in front of the theatre with my friends, he and his wife walked right past us, before the show. It seemed as if I was the only one who recognized him, and not wanting to draw the crowd, I nodded my head in greeting, he smiled and nodded back. OMG I love you! Your vibe, your energy, your commentary! My husband and I went to this concert and this song was our first dance as husband and wife. Sadly, he passed and every time I hear this song I cry. It’s an AMAZING song.
I’m so sorry for your loss but I’m amazed how music can smooth and bring those magical moments you had together

I didn't realize that was Paula Cole, really like her solo work. Thanks for the info!
You know it, Tony's dive bombs on the stick are too cool!
Love, love Paula Cole!
Why leave out the great Youssou N'dour?
@@patriciamcl54, I think he's talking about the people on stage right now. Youssou N’dour wasn't on the stage but his vocals on the original are unparalleled when it comes to the African vibe. Papa Wemba did his own thing with the African vibe part too.
It is about seeing the love in someone elses eyes, and being that loved one to the point where you change to become that. How pure and sweet.
No matter where you live in this world you won't travel far to find respect for Peter Gabriel
Now this what real music sounds like u hear every instrument.
This is the best live album I’ve ever heard. Thanks for bringing it back to me.
Watching you dance to this was joyous. Your spirit shines. The unity of all of us would be Heaven on Earth. ✌️🕯️❤️ to you beautiful dancing sister.
And as a member of Genesis he helped create some of the best prog rock in history, including its greatest song Supper's Ready.
He has a BEAUTIFUL VOICE and he uses it WELL.😯😁🤗👍. UNFORTUNATELY I didn't get to see him in concert.😞
I saw this tour and remember crying during this song 🙏🏻. He’s such a brilliant artist 💙
Thank you for reviewing it- you bring a lovely energy of celebration to it 😎
That was fabulous listened to this a lot collaboration of different nationalities just shows what you can achieve when you work together great unique voices great vibe the whole experience was so well put together Peter Gabriel showing his class again not taking anything away from everyone else far from it great reaction I couldn't keep still loved it
HIs concert in NYC, back in the 80's (The Palladium on 14th street), was one of the best I've ever been to. I'll always remember waiting in front of the theatre with my friends, he and his wife walked right past us, before the show. It seemed as if I was the only one who recognized him, and not wanting to draw the crowd, I nodded my head in greeting, he smiled and nodded back. He was touring for the 'Security' album; an outstanding album. If you're inclined, I recommend the song 'San Jacinto'.
Also a very good live version from this concert.
Rhythm of the Heat is stirring as well...San Jacinto Is so moving... Now you did it; I gotta play the whole Security album now...:)...Thanks...
Peter always has something going on on stage! He is such a great entertainer!
