Watching someone witness this for the first time is magical.
Lucky her🧡
Truly!
Paula Cole’s voice is angelic. And coolest of all, in all of that crazy physically hard dancing & singing, she looks like she’s having a ball out there. I’ll bet it was a joy to be a performer on that tour.
Ditto!
And to think Cole replaced Sinéad O'Connor after she abruptly left the tour. Cole was only two or three shows into the tour when this video was shot in Italy.
@@jeffreymayes907 Gotta give Peter credit for launching Paula's career with this tour. She did an AMAZING job! "Don't Give Up" and "Please Talk to Me" are my favorites off this DVD.
His live call and response duet with Paula on his song Don't Give Up is also stunning, AND quite emotionally moving.
God you’re so right so good it’s sublime❤❤😢
Peter was one of the original artists to promote "World Music", and he started the W.O.M.A.D Festival in 1980 and it's still going strong. That's all after an extremely successful career in Genesis.
As you may know after the first year of WOMAD, Gabriel was in such debt he was overwhelmed. Genesis did a fundraiser to pay it off, so they re-united this one time. Beautiful friends.
I truly believe Peter should get a lifetime achievement Nobel for multicultural appreciation and promotion.
Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon are the 2 main artists that I remember promoting world music at that time. I would love to see them work together.
This is one of the greatest live performances of any song I have ever heard.
the newer ones from peter are better... the older he gets the better gets his voice...
The whole artistic direction of this gig is amazing. Incredible musicians, but the whole is greatly enhanced by the theatricality of the whole thing.
The young lady is Paula Cole, who replaced Sinead O'Connor for the European leg of the tour. She later had a successful solo career. You've likely heard some of her songs, including "I Don't Wanna Wait" and "Where Have all the Cowboys Gone?". She did a phenomenal job in this concert. If you think your job is tough, try taking Kate Bush's part in "Don't Give Up"...
In my humble onion... Paula was much better than Kate Bush along side Peter. This being true on "Don't give up" but beyond that her vocal accompaniment on the entire "Secret World" tour was more than epic.
@@lawrencesmallacombe5089 They are both great singers, but I would vote for Kate Bush. Wuthering Heights is one of my favorite songs.
@@lawrencesmallacombe5089 Paula Cole is a fantastic singer and did a great job, but Kate Bush owns that song - it's her voice that makes it so magical
I really prefer Paula's version from this show.
@@lawrencesmallacombe5089 YIKES ?
You'd be blown away by this entire concert. It's amazing. Truly something to be experienced.
Imagine - he's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame....TWICE. That's talent and staying power.
Peter's album "So" is one of the best complete albums ever recorded at the time of its release.
💯
Absolutely…one of the best produced records ever too…
Absolutely concur 100%.
It is my favorite solo album by any artist.
After more than 35 years it still appeals to me. Peter Gabriel is a legend .
You will love Shaking The Tree from same concert. Paula Cole - Where Have All The Cowboys Gone
He’s an incredible artist. My favorite Genesis material is when he was with the band, true prog rock. I had the honor and pleasure of seeing him live once. The word is; new album and tour next year.
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway was the best album EVER made!
I hesitated watching based on the time but I'm glad I did, I cried again with you. The only way I can put this is , A sense of Humanity and Love. Thank you
I've seen every reaction to this video that's out there but this is the first one that brought a tear to my eye. You didn't have to say a word. I saw how moved you were. Excellent reaction!
Great reaction, and as usual your face says it all! PG is one of the greatest musicians out there, with sooo many amazing songs and performances, and this is my absolute favorite. "When I want to run away, I drive off in my car, but whichever way I go, I come back to the place you are." What a beautiful thing to say.
Please check out "Don't Give Up" from this same concert; it also festures Paula and it is also absolutely magical. Cheers!
Her joyful expressions made me feel the same!
Your dancing in the chair is what everyone felt the first time they heard this song. Thanks for sharing.
It is musicians like this that create such beautiful art and give so much when they perform that show how much of a crime it is to pay minimal amounts on Spotify and other streaming services
This whole concert is amazing. The world music and different stages are a must see!!
I LOVE IT WHEN YOUNG PEOPLE HEAR THE GENIUS THAT IS PETER GABRIEL . First saw Genesis in Leicester in 1973 ,been a gabriel fan ever since the rest were useless without him.
Peter Gabriel is incredible this track is pure perfection it's beautiful I have listened to this many times but not for a while I got so emotional listening to it this time your reaction added to it you have obviously got a great love of music like myself I would be lost without it I find it so rewarding in so many ways great reaction from you I feel so happy now
Ah! F I N A L L Y! 😍😍
Peter Gabriel was one of the few musicians that really put spotlight on the Apartheid regime in S.A.
His song BIKO made me listen and ask question about Apartheid to teachers and public figures. There were little knowledge in schoolsystems, and it was a hot potato in world politics
And he has done so much for world music and people around the world.
I'd advice you to listen to BIKO, make a reaction to it. PLZ❣
And it was the starting point where Peter G. started influence the World Music Scene.. His connection and work w Nelson Mandela.
I was so lucky to watch Peter Gabriel, Nelson Mandela, and world class musicians on the MANDELA Concert in Tromsø in 2005.
Memory for a lifetime ❣
His performance of Biko at the amnesty international concerts was one of the most powerful live concert moments ever.
His performance of Biko at the amnesty international concerts was one of the most powerful live concert moments ever.
@@2727rogers yers DEFFO!
Wow, you are literally just like my granddaughter when l introduced here to Peter Gabriel. It made my heart smile.
'Shaking the Tree' is another one I love from this show. I think I saw this about 20 years ago on The Disney Channel, when they aired his concert 'Secret World'. He also did the song at the end of the movie 'Wall-E' playing over the end titles called 'Down To Earth' which was nominated for an Academy Award.
Yes, that's a really good next step on this show. Very powerful song
Thrilled you are reacting!!!! I've asked many other well known reactors who truly are vocally trained and nobody's ever reacted. It makes me smile. THere is a LOT of his music you would enjoy. So so so happy to see this to close out a long day. ❤
Wonderful reaction to an amazing song & performance, it mirrored my own feelings when I watch this. Thank you
Thank You… This is one of my favorite videos.. I watch it all the time.. I love watching you dance along with the music.. that’s exactly what I do!!!
I just had the pleasure of watching you fall in love with my favorite song, and artists, of all time.
Your reaction fills my hearth with joy...
Thank you ❤❤❤
in the USA the 1st association with the song "In Your Eyes" will always be the movie "Say Anything" with John Cusack (late 80ies).
Peters voice is one of the most recognizable voices in the World !
Now listen to 'Don't give up' !
You are a BEAUTIFUL SOUL ... Bless You
Peter Gabriel! And miss Cole... and In your eyes... we saw all the beauty in your eyes Rosalie. Thanks!
A video to go back to every half year, just to experience unity instead of division, trust instead of hostility.
In fact, feeling human and whole once again. ❤️
I like to think this is also how the divine can be found in fellow men, no matter gender, race, nationality, whatever. Super cool when in a stadium with some 15000 music lovers and feeling the spark of this bond.
Hey beautyfull woman!!!! I saw hundreds of reactions, but...... Never saw one like yours. Thanks so much. You made my day better. I heard this many times, but I never cry till now with you. Love you. Thanks again. Greettings from Argentina. Sorry for my English
Rosalie, I love your reaction to this song I have loved since it came out, but even more lately, as I feel the spirituality of their musical expression of love and joy at a hightened level, for some reason. I believe there is a global enlightenment happening, and we are all joining in gradually. Love to all✨♥
Music and musicians and other artist are healers. Some you get, some you don’t. But expanding your universe; oh yeahs!
A jaw drop is the appropriate reaction to Paula Cole's 15+ second long Aria.
29 years later we can live this magical moment together; most of us probably completely alone in front of our technology. We are invested with the heavy responsibility to make these platforms a powerful force for GOOD.
They will be listening to this a thousand years from now.
"I see the doorway to a thousand churches..." so beautiful. Peter introduced me to world music, and I am forever grateful.
I have many vinyl of Peter. Fantastic music.
Here you go with some South African sound led by Paul Simon, with a world message! There is also his incredible album Graceland performed in South Friday, with their singers! It’s beautiful.
ruclips.net/video/9HKNAhAxMAk/видео.html
Just saw him last fall in Cleveland. Amazing performer and he always surrounds himself with incredible musicians.
You made my Tuesday morning, Rosalie. Hugs
Paul Simon's "Graceland" is an album you should check out. Especially "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes". Trust me.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Also to Gerhard who recommended it to you!
When I heard your introduction, I felt ooooollldddd..... You hadn't heard of Peter Gabriel. I just couldn't believe it and I realized, once again, we're from different generations. Whereas Gerhard might be from mine....
Oh, this was so beautiful to hear and watch your reaction to it👏👍. I felt like I was back in 80's. This music, the whole album SO! actually, was simply iconic.
Please Rosalie, do yourself a big, big favour. On a quite evening lay down on a sofa, look up Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush "Don't give up" (another song from that album), put on your headphones and lose yourself in the beauty, the emotion and the message of that song that will touch your heart. You won't regret it...💛💛💛 but be sure to have a box of tissues at hand
Massive thanks for posting! Still one of the best songs ever 👍😀
Proper reaction! It's some moving stuff. Cheers!
This is one of the best Live Performances i've ever seen.
Salisbury Hill is soo uplifting and joyous. And as someone said, 'Dont Give Up' his duet with Kate Bush - soo emotional, beautiful,
Gotta listen/watch both of them. 😊
one of the most beautiful songs and performances ever
and to honest (really honest) ...the same for your reaction! LOVED IT! tears in my Ey...es I wasn´t able to watch in one part...

in "love"... DJ and greetings from Germany
(haha... so glad you have a husband ... a happy one! ;) )
A very special artist.
Peter has been my favorite artist since I was a teen. I've seen him in concert a few times and he never fails to draw out the exact same reaction in me. His songs hit so deep. I'm seeing him in concert in September and it will most likely be the last time he tours. I'm so thrilled to get to see him again. He's such a magnificent talent.
you know why the 80s were so good, we enjoyed good music and having fun no politics
Yes my friend, as an 80's kid i subscribe every word.
The SO album was so massive in 86... Still holds up just as well to this very day.
Still remember the first time i've listened to and watched Sledgehammer and Don't Give Up on the Top20 when it entered the charts, magical years that sadly will never happen again.
the 70's and 80's will go down as two of the best decades ever in musical history in my opinion. . .
Peter Gabriel is more or less always about politics. Just as you know.
This performances was so epic that I didn't think any RUclips reaction channel could do it justice. But you absolutely DID. I almost enjoyed your reaction as much as the song.
thank you very much!
so beautiful
In your eyes, the light, the heat
In your eyes, I am complete
In your eyes, I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes, the resolution of all the fruitless searches
Absolutely beautiful lyrics...
Young lady watching you I had to subscribe. Your joy and energy just charged up this old farts batteries!!! So sweet.
Phil was drummer in Genisis and became singer in band and drummer when Peter Gabriel left for solo career. It's what made Phil a great singer
I always say when I see this reaction that it should be the only thing we put into a time capsule for other planets and civilizations. It’s absolutely our best foot forward as a people. The energy, the joy, the collaboration, the celebration of spirit-maybe they’d take pity on us or at least give us a shot before they find out how we are to each other most of the time.
I think this reaction itself to the wonderful live concert celebration that is In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel saved me and brought me back to an even keel, that this reaction in its joyousness and wonder truly, I agree from comments, uplifted and is magical and moving as it moved you. I've come to think of the song through a lens beyond even romantic personal relationships to a kind just being and that which is beyond definition. Almost a kind of seeking, especially with some religion imagery (like a "religious" experience of the mystical, indescribable), the eye (the most complex part of any being and full of context and symbolism), and a sorta idiosyncratic narrative! That and various glimpses of duality and wholeness! This does recall to my mind to recommend to you Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill.
When Peter Gabriel was in Genisis, he hid behind a lot of makeup and costuming (insecurity??) but really blossomed when he became a single artist.
So much great music and great perfomers where around in the 1970's and 80's that is only remembered by those of us that lived those years. It is fun to see someone young when they discover some of this music. It's out there - go find it.
this song is low key brilliant.
I loved your reaction.
Saw his 86 tour to support So, sat beside Simple Minds and sung Biko with them. Special memory.
I saw this concert and it was epic, Paula Cole was Awesome. You have to check out the whole concert
I think if you love music this is just the most beautiful thing you will ever see. Peter Gabriel is a truly special person, and what at band. Just fantastic.
Love your reaction!! Such wonderful thoughts from you on this masterpiece. Subscribed!
The "Secret World Live" concert tour was designed and directed by French-Canadian Avant-Garde Theatre director, Robert Lepage, who had spent ten years as the artistic director of the Canadian National Theatre, in Ottawa.
The round stage, covered by a dome, represented the feminine of our species, protected by the pregnant belly.
A few metres away was the square stage, covered by a cube whose ceiling swung out to become a large video projection screen. The square represented the masculine, the hardness of the human species.
Between the two stages was a motorized belt that carried the performers from one world to the other, like the eternal, universal river.
Peter Gabriel is the single most responsible person for bringing tribal African polyrhythms to the West, most notably in 1980 with his anti-apartheid protest song, "Biko". Gabriel open our ears to African musics and opened our minds to the atrocities happening in South Africa, and opened our hearts to do something about it.
Peter Gabriel was one of the main go-to-for-cool's in the 80's. This song is one step away from a really serious slow-dance song.
Great, great great reaction. Very emotional and joyous celebration of humanity. Wow.
This has been described as one of the most purely beautiful love songs ever written. That live performance just seems like a joyful celebration. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a reactor so transported by a song, and very justifiably so.
Agreed. It’s one of a kind. Thank you
🎶💙Say Anything movie, iconic boombox scene with In Your Eyes.💙🎶
I LOVE Peter Gabriel and I loved to watch, as you obviously fell in love with him at first sight too! Peter Gabriel is an awesome musician! He is 72 now and right at this time, he puts out a new album!
I never see never a reaction to this song like yours.
One of my best live concert experiences was Peter Gabriel’s Back to Front tour in 2013-14. He performed the entire So album in order (including this song). It was so good I saw the concert three times over six months.
You SO need to watch the whole concert start to finish - masterpiece!
Secret World Live is 💖✨💖🙏 Your mind will be blown and you can't go back.
Peter Gabriel - musical genius - from Genesis to brilliant rock shows to soundtracks. “Don’t give up’ is credited by Elton John as saving his life at a suicidal time. I wish he would do more but he is a perfectionist and at times a self confessed slacker. You are also witnessing in this performance the absolute cream of musicians.
I got to see this performed live during the tour for the So album in late 1986. Check out that album, the entire thing is a masterpiece. Spawned a bunch of HUGE MTV video hits too. Gabriel was absolutely on fire that year!
Your emotion is genuine. That's what good music can do for you. And yes, this track is tinged with African rhytmns and chants and dancing. Peace.
woW!1! look at your crazy REacTIon FaCe!!!!
the moment when we all fall in love with you and the song... 12:40... (of course... already before, but in this moment!!!!)
Great reaction!
Listen to the whole Secret World live album. Every single song in this concert is EPIC!!
You must watch the whole movie it will change your mind.
Love your reaction! /Best regards, New subscriber
You had the same reaction I had, and probably everyone else. When you watch this for the first time you see the separation of really good live performances. Peter Gabriel never disappoints.
Seem him in concert. Great artist
YOU NEED to listen Genesis. Love 🙏
Where has this been all my life? Im obsessed with this performance, beyond epic
A great song
This was the very first CD I ever purchased in 86
Rosalie, if you've not done so already and have the time you should watch the whole concert. It's 30 years old but stands up against any show recently. So many surprises.
He is not only an incredible musician but a true performer. His concerts are some of the greatest shows to see live. I have loved him for over 4 decades!
Thank you
¡¡¡MÁGICO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As others have said Peter Gabriel has been a great proponent of World Music. His soundtrack "Passion" for the "Last Temptation of Christ" used many middle eastern musicians and a subsequent album "Passion - Sources" featured the middle eastern artist performing their own music. His album "Us" and its follow up "Plus from Us" was a similar pair of albums with "Us" being the Peter Gabriel release and "Plus" spotlighting the supporting artists. Great music on all 4 albums.
Saw Peter Live few weeks ago. This song leaves you spiritly refreshed and happy.
:: I just discovered your reaction and seeing you dancing, singing to Jean-Claude Naimro (watch him up in his group; Kassav!!!) and being emotional makes me smile :) ::
Hi Rosalie! I just came across your channel when looking up reactions to great artists; much like Peter Gabriel. Now I’m a bit older than you, 52, so I remember when a few other songs were a bit more popular before “In Your Eyes” came out. I’m sure you know by now that this song became very popular because of the movie “Say Anything” starring John Cusack and Ione Skye. It was a movie that meant a lot to me when I was younger and that song was perfect for the message and time. Love is a tricky thing and I think the message of the song and movie resonated with a ton of people. Your reaction was SO nice to see because it was what I felt way back when I heard this song the first time. The version you watched is even better than the original that we all heard from the movie and his album, and I’m so glad I got introduced to from you! As you probably know, songs can mean so much to people and you captured my thoughts and feelings from when I was in high school going through my teenage years. Watching your video and that live song was such a stellar moment, and I greatly appreciate your thoughts and emotions! Thank you so much for bringing back such great memories! If you haven’t already, please do another video on his first solo single “Solsbury Hill” when you can. It’s such a good song and is an “explanation” of why he left Genesis back in the 70’s. -Gregg Rodgers, Virginia USA ❤❤
Hello Gregg. Thank you very much for taking the time to comment and share your thoughts and impressions after watching the video. I am so happy to hear it brought you joy and brought back special memories. Thank you also for the suggestion. I look forward to exploring more of his work asap. Have a blessed day
what a joyful sound - exactly what the world needs now
Thanks for reviewing In Your Eyes - one of my favorite Peter Gabriel songs, and especially this performance. It was a great tour. FYI, Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins were together in Genesis in their early years until Peter left the band in 1975. Phil played drums and backing vocals - then took over as lead singer later. Interesting that Peter reminds you of Phil. Phil did cover a number of songs originally recorded by Peter in Genesis and did pretty well.
A popular comment about Phil at the time he took over was "He sounds more like Peter Gabriel than Peter Gabriel does!". =:o} It really was uncanny. Phil didn't think of himself as a singer, but of course, he'd been an actor long before he joined Genesis, and having worked with Peter for years he was able to *play the part* of "pseudo-Peter" to perfection, while getting comfortable with the idea of being the band's frontman.
Over time, Phil developed his own vocal style with Genesis, leading to a hugely successful solo career running in parallel with being in the band; Meanwhile Peter's voice developed in another direction.
Can't imagine anyone not knowing Peter Gabriel's music. Seen him so many times and have everything he has ever recorded. Maybe I'm just old. 🤣
