The lines that you asked about were a Senegalese language called Wolof: They sang "Sa bet chi lamp, chi tangaay, sa bet maangi ci biir", which means "Your eyes in lamp and heat, your eyes inside."
Perhaps the best version of an amazing song. We've seen him twice. Once with his daughter singing Paula Cole's part and another time touring with Sting! In Your Eyes is always on his set list and such a perfect collaboration song. Every live version is a wow and worth a view.
There was something really special about the music of the 80s and 90s, it put you in a trance, and awakened all your senses. So fortunate to have been young and able to enjoy this music..
Peter Gabriel is great, he was awarded the Man Of Peace award from the Nobel Prize Laureates in 2006. I have another one of his that has a great backstory. Years ago Peter was going through a difficult divorce. His youngest daughter, Melanie, was a very young child and seeing her parents break up was too much for her. She was angry, upset and couldn't understand it, so she stopped talking to her father. Peter wrote the song *COME TALK TO ME* to try to get through to her and explain that it had nothing to do with her, he loved her so much. Years later, after Melanie and Peter had reconciled, she performs the song with Peter, live in concert. It hits you in the feels when you know the backstory: *COME TALK TO ME* ruclips.net/video/4J1gWMLbV70/видео.html Note: This is a much older Peter Gabriel, the video that you watched was from 1994, 27 years ago!
Bless you for that video URL- I'm a long- time Genesis/ Gabriel fan, and knew the song, but always wondered about the backstory (for which I doubly thank you) but the performance with his daughter!!! Look, I'm an old man, after 44 years in the Army... and I cried. Utterly beautiful. Thank you again, Lazerx1. Hi from Canada. Peace and be safe
This performance was from 1994. The album the song is on, So, was a MASSIVE hit in 1986. I got to see that tour in LA in December of '86. Best concert I've ever attended, bar none. If you want to see another hit from that same album, check out Sledgehanner... ruclips.net/video/OJWJE0x7T4Q/видео.html
Oh, you are so right! Peter’s very handsome and his voice is heavenly. You should definitely listen to more of his music, because he’s a brilliant artist. To start with, I recommend you Don’t Give Up, which has beautiful and inspiring lyrics, and Sledgehammer, which has an amazing beat and groove throughout the whole song. You will love them!
I am really drawing a blank on this one. I remember Kathy and I, both from Maryland traveling from Louisiana to Maryland in 1978 - and the first time seeing this song in concert was with her - you know, the lighter thing. I do not believe Paula Cole was with him at this time.
Great headphones. Great performance. one of my all time favourites. I'm not sure what they are singing here but on the original album version Youssou n'dour sings it in his native Wolof language. and it is supposed to be ambiguous. I think.
That's Yousou'NDour up there with him. Peter has done a lot of campaigning for African rights and at one point was getting abuse and death threats because of it! Absolutely shocking and disgraceful 😢🎶💙✊
Wolof language of Senegal, Africa. The African vibe and groove makes this live rendition so enjoyable to the ears.

Thank you for the translation! It adds another layer to an already wonderful performance!
Paula Cole's voice is absolutely magical.

That was out of this world! Love for the world and all its people!

My world vision dream- we are all children who just want to sing and dance. Beautiful reaction, my dear!
Just in case you're interested, the entire "Peter Gabriel: Secret World Live" concert is available to stream on Tubi. It's definitely worth a watch.
This song was rebased in 1987, but this concert is in 1993 in Italy.

Wolof, one of almost 2000 in Africa
Hi.
The song is from 1987.
The concert is from the mid 90s.
I am really drawing a blank on this one. I remember Kathy and I, both from Maryland traveling from Louisiana to Maryland in 1978 - and the first time seeing this song in concert was with her - you know, the lighter thing. I do not believe Paula Cole was with him at this time.

Secret World Tour was in 1993. Check out Shaking The Tree from same concert.
If nobody has mentioned the language they were speaking is, they are speaking Wolof, which is the main language spoken in Senegal. 🙂
That's Yousou'NDour up there with him. Peter has done a lot of campaigning for African rights and at one point was getting abuse and death threats because of it! Absolutely shocking and disgraceful 😢🎶💙✊
If you would like to react to a recommend song, I recommend the artist Aesthetic Perfection with the song Bark at the Moon
That video was made in 2001
1994
Please note no shit woke stuff from these guys
